It's hard to catch a break when you're Fabolous. Though his skills as a manufacturer of blazing-hot street bangers and pop-crossover hits have not gone unnoticed by the hip-hop hype machine, the Brooklyn rapper hasn't come close to matching 50-Cent and similarly gifted superstars in the sales department. Which accounts for his decision, with album No. 4, to do somethin' about it. From Nothin' to Somethin' rounds up a massive herd of talent--Akon is here, and so are Swiss Beatz, Rihanna, Young Jeezy, Jay-Z, Lloyd, Junior Reid, Ne-Yo, and T-Pain. It's a little hard to locate Fabo on "Change Up," the Akon track, but otherwise he goes about spreading his Fabolousness throughout: "Diamonds," a bling-centric track with Jeezy, benefits from a borrowed take-it-easy Southern drawl, "Brooklyn" brings it home for New York with a spirit seldom seen since the East Coast/West Coast war was at its nastiest, and "Return of the Hustle" solidifies a career built on street cred with an asphalt-hot beat. Start to finish, but especially on the Timbaland-helmed "Make Me Better," production is top-notch. If there's a disc that can restore the fabulousness to being Fabolous, Somethin' is it. --Tammy La Gorce

I would have have to say I was pretty happy with this album. Probably not his best work, but definitely worth buying. From nothing to something definitely seems like it is intended to be a bit more commercial sounding than his last album.

Don't know why people are giving this low stars if you don't like it then don't worry about it. Listen to the classic rap albums all day and cry about the new hip pop that is out today. Cry to yourself though and don't be bitter about Fabolous new album because it is good hip pop album. I recommend buying this hip pop album it is worth it. HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

Fabolous's 4th album is "From Nothin To Somethin". What I've always noticed about fab is that even though he tries to sound mainstream a lot he is still very underrated. Fabolous is right in same category as Trick Daddy & Mystikal. They can make good songs but their albums never really blow you away or make you say wow that's some tight s**t right there.

"From Nothin To Somethin" is a 15 track release with collaborations on all but 2 songs.

The album gets off to a pretty good start with "From Nothin To Somethin Intro", a decent opener that kind of sounds like a freestyle. the beat is crazy. And if the song was a little bit longer instead of just being an intro it would probably be one of the better songs on here. This album is basically the typical rap album these days. You got the songs where he constatly brags about himself ("Yep, I'm Back", "I'm The Man" feat. Red Cafe & "Jokes On You" feat. Pusha-T of The Clipse). As well as the songs for the ladies ("Baby Don't Go" feat. T-Pain, "Make Me Better" feat. NE-YO, "First Time" feat. Rihanna & "Real Playa Like" feat. Lloyd). You got the club bangers ("Diamonds" feat. Young Jeezy & "Return Of The Hustle" feat. Swizz Beatz). "Brooklyn" feat. Jay-Z & Uncle Murda has a great beat. But the hook is very dissapointing. It reminds me of "New York S**t" from Busta Rhymes's cd The Big Bang. The standout track for me is "Gangsta Don't Play" feat. Junior Reid. The beat is tight and Fab and J Reid deliver a solid street track. The only two songs that Fabolous really shows any hunger on are "Change Up" feat. Akon and the deep track "What Should I Do" feat. Lil Mo. And the bonus track "This Is Family" feat. Ransom, Freck Billionaire, Red Cafe, Joe Budden & Paul Cain is a solid posse cut. This album will go platinum but it isn't album of the year material.

Definitely not his best but trust me it will grow on you. If you're a real Fab fan u will be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The problem with this album is not a lack of features got em (Lloyd, T-Pain, Akon, Jay-Z, Ne-yo, Red Cafe, Rihanna) or hot beatz got em (Just Blaze, Swizz Beatz etc.) but a lack of hooks. Brooklyn w/ Jay-Z was especially disappointing for that reason. But The cd does have at least 7 pretty good tracks and who can deny the kid with the Grammy grin? Hope this helps. Najwa >: <

These African-American Rastafarians didn't just originate DC hardcore in the late 1970s with their incredibly fast and brilliant "Pay to Cum" single; they set the bar impossibly high. That the group is not hugely millionaires-with-jets popular is one of the music industry's travesties. But they've always had as much a penchant for pissing off the shaven headed moshers at their shows (playing lengthy dub songs) as for giving them what they want (supersonic riffage). Much of the album employs the metal-tinged sound the group's been flirting with since they were on SST in the late '80s. A third of the tracks are reggae numbers, and while you're not going to sell off all your Culture LPs after hearing those, they are definitely serviceable. Build a Nation is not as great as the ROIR cassette, but it's the best album they've made in years, and shows the band in awesome form. This is thanks in no small part to the production efforts of the Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch. As this is their second best-sounding proper album--the first being 1983's Ric Ocasek-produced Rock for Light--it's clear that the band should work only with their celebrity musician-fans at the helm from now on. --Mike McGonigal

I was a huge Bad Brains fan - I against I was one of my favorites albums way back when.
This album, in contrast, seems lifeless. Even on the harder, faster songs, it just
sounds like they are going through the motions, and have lost any fire or passion in their
music.

Maybe I just didn't get what they were trying to do, but it's hard to believe that this is the
same band that recorded their classic albums.

this album is BRILLIANT. straight up. my favorite parts are when the music is mad chaos and h.r. is singing (yes singing) over them using lots of delay and reverb. many people are complaining about the vocals, but i have to disagree, i think it adds a layer of (for lack of a better word) mysticism to the tracks. i'm giving this 4 instead of 5 because honestly, i hate reggae music. ALTHOUGH, for some reason, on Build a Nation, it doesn't bother me at all, and i find myself actually getting into some of the tracks. So, even though i could really do without the reggae elements and would rather have more hardcore, i still love this album. great job guys, i look forward to seeing you on tour!!!!!!

While I was a huge fan of Bad Brains in the 80's, I sadly lost touch with the band for most of the last decade and a half. When I found out they were putting out a new album after 10 years or so, I decided I owed it to the scene to put in some cash and buy it.

I fully expected to hear some mediocre, mostly soft and mellow reggae tunes with their hardcore past far behind them. I was especially nervous when I saw the track listing with titles such as "Give Thanks and Praises" and "Let There Be Angels". Was I pleasantly wrong! This is slam dancing hardcore at its finest.

In my opinion, the tracks on this album stand up to or above anything they're put out before. My only beef with it at all is I wish HR's vocals were a bit more prominent and clear. I've always been a huge fan of his voice and it's somewhat hidden behind the music and electronic filters. But that really doesn't take away from the overall impact of this CD. I can not stop listening to it over and over and I can't wait to see them on the road again!

Bad Brains have always been rather tough to figure out, even as their influence extends across several realms of rock. Their interests in hardcore, reggae, and metal don't always gel into a cohesive overall sound, but on this long-awaited new album they are relentlessly pursuing all of their interests with a nearly flawless new focus. Somehow, Bad Brains make songs of different and seemingly incompatible styles work on the same album. Nobody else could sound even remotely believable jumping from hardcore punk to dub reggae to anthemic metal in successive songs. The band's always complicated lynchpin H.R. sounds rejuvenated and his lyrics and vocals have found a strong (but still as nearly-unhinged as ever) focus around Rastafari. Earl and Darryl jump from style to style flawlessly, and Dr. Know continues his savage mutations of every guitar style known to man. The band's diverse interests are probably combined most evenly in the opener "Give Thanks and Praise." "Jah People Make the World Go Round" is a high-flying slab of metal, and especially punishing hardcore workouts are found in "Expand Your Soul" and "Let There be Angels (Just Like You)." Meanwhile, Bad Brains lay down dub-inflected reggae like the best of the Jamaican masters in "Natty Dreadlocks 'pon the Mountain Top," "Jah Love," and the surprisingly sinuous "Until Kingdom Comes." And finally, the Bad Brains attack climaxes in the sinister and insistent "Universal Peace," the apocalyptic music of which belies the title perfectly. [~doomsdayer520~]

Aaron Gillespie is a man obsessed. Whether he's out in front of The Almost, his new, eagerly anticipated rock-based project, or behind the drum kit for Underoath, the Clearwater, Florida-bred songwriter/musician can't help but throw himself into everything he does.

With Southern Weather, The Almost lets Gillespie put a different, more melodic side of himself on display. Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his idol Dave Grohl, who stepped out from behind his drum kit to capture the rock world's hearts as one of the genre's most visible frontmen, Gillespie has begun a metamorphosis.

The disc's commanding opening track and first single, "Say This Sooner," introduces the album with an attention grabbing, percussion-driven anthem. "I grew up in the Deep South," Gillespie says of the urgent, hook-fostered opener. "Like anyone, I've had struggles along the way. But I am very much informed by Southern values and I think the songs speak to that."

Between his own duties out in front of The Almost and Underoath's touring and recording schedules, Aaron Gillespie is fully committed until 2008. For now, he's a firm believer in his ability to balance both. "Underoath is extremely special to me," he says of the group he co-founded in 1998 which debuted at #2 on the Billboard Album Chart with June 2006's Define The Great Line.

"Southern Weather has got a much broader scope," he continues. "From a 12 year old listening to her iPod on the school bus to a 38-year old guy commuting on a train, I'm excited by the fact that this album can find an audience with a lot of different people."

The first song of the album is great and is probably my favorite song. The first couple songs are great, but i have to say I got a little bored during the middle of the album. I think the last couple of the songs are great though. It is not what i expected. It was just okay. I suggest you try the band Underoath also because the singer of The Almost is the drummer/singer in Underoath.

Wow. This is a great album. go on their myspace and listen to "say this sooner" and trust me you will not be dissappointed. if you like that song you will definitely like this cd. it is very creative, and it breaks from emo and southern rock and alternative... its very tough to define the genre because it really has a fresh sound. the best songs on the cd are "say this sooner" "southern weather" and "call back when im honest". its a pity everyone is so skeptic about this cd just because the frontman is the underoath's drummer. whatever, the guy has talent, i give it up for him. 5 star cd.

It doesn't happen much, but there are times when the departure of a group's most prominent player inspires the rest of the act to get seriously bizzy. Strength & Love, a tight disc that skitters from track to shiny track with imagination and a renewed sense of rap's widened boundaries, makes Bone Thugs-N-Harmony a prime example. Without Bizzy Bone to layer a drizzle of Midwestern vocal weirdness over their sound, Layzie, Krayzie, and Wish Bone call in a crew of hard-hitting helpers: Akon delivers twice, first on the melting "I Tried" and again on the weepy "Never Forget Me," Mariah Carey flits through "Lil Love" alongside Bow Wow, and Twista and Yolanda Adams also make reputation-enhancing appearances (Twista by barreling through "C-Town" at breakneck speed and Adams by giving it up gorgeously for God on "Order My Steps (Dear Lord)"). Best of all about this proud-making comeback disc is its clever use of samples: "Wind Blow" pins the Fleetwood Mac chestnut "The Chain" down to urban pavement without wrecking its spirit, and the smartly produced "The Streets" updates the vibe of Bobby Womack's timeless "Across 110th Street" while preserving its grit-covered class. --Tammy La Gorce

To me,this is the Bone cd is the best since the Art Of War. I liked some tracks off of Resurrection, and Thug Stories was the best cd in a long time,but this tops both of those albums with no problem at all. I like every track on here except for 2 of them. Tha Bone boys are back and they brought they fire flow that they were known for in the begining!!!

If you still doubt this groups talent then listen to the album opener Flow Motion...makes my jaw drop every time that I hear that track!
Bump In The trunk should become another Bone classic. They actually make "Wind Blow" work 100%! The first single is a sad song about trying in life,but also kind of inspirational at the same time. C-Town with Twista is awesome, everyone tears their verse up! 9mm and Gun Blast remind me of them 'ole Bone Boys classicks!!!

If you ever been a fan of Bone, then pick this classick up! Bone boys are back 110%!

The cleverness of Fall Out Boy's lyrical content is immediately evident by looking at the song titles on their sophomore disc, From Under the Cork Tree. "A Little Less 'Sixteen Candles,' a Little More 'Touch Me,'" "I Slept with Someone in Fall Out Boy and All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" and "Sophomore Slump or Comeback of the Year" are but a small taste of the group's acerbic attitude. After FOB's indie debut hit the underground charts, the group's sudden indie-style success made for a fast growth spurt. Their appeal is obvious, from frontman Patrick Stump's Killer-esque pipes (especially evidenced in the disc-closing "XO") to their very melodic teen-angst anthems. While much of the disc operates at usual punk-pop speed, the highlight comes from a slower, emotion-laden cut called "I've Got a Dark Alley and a Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth." Got to say was not expecting much, I liked a few of the tracks off this album but when I bought it I was expecting the usual 'emo' moan moan, I hate life, my girlfriend left me rubbish but this was a whole lot more than that.

Good, well put together music with decent lyrics to match. A good sound production to back up produced a pretty powerful album this realy does represent a good progression for Fall Out Boy and got to say, not much of a fan of so called 'indie' bands who never seem to be off MTV but if they keep producing stuff of this quality I cant realy complain.

Well worth buying.

Fall Out Boy consists of the members Joe Trohan, Patrick Stump, and Pete Wentz. Their album 'From Under The Cork Tree' was released in 2005.

1. Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued - 8/10 - A very nice start to the album. The song puts you in a good mood and makes you want to hear more.

2. Of All The Gin Joints In All The World - 7/10 - There was nothing really horrible about this song except it just seemed like an extension to the first track. There's nothing memorable about it.

3. Dance, Dance - 10/10 - The album really takes off from this point. Dance, Dance is a vibrant, colorful song that will get you up and moving.

4. Sugar, We're Going Down - 10/10 - By far, the best track on the album. This is the song that you'll be humming or singing without realizing it.

5. Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner - 9/10 - Another catchy song that will have you dancing.

6. I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth (Summer Song) - 8/10 - This song does have a slight taste of summer, but it definitely is not your summer anthem. Some of the parts were a little bland and repetitive, but for the most part it was a pretty song.

7. 7 Minutes In Heaven (Atavan Halen) - 7/10 - I find this song a little boring. There's nothing that special or unique about it except for a small break in the middle of the song.

8. Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year - 7/10 - Another not so memorable song. The beginning starts off great but it slowly goes downhill after that.

9. Champagne For My Real Friends, Real Pain For My Sham Friends - 9/10 - There's some irresistable chords in this song that will finally bring out more of the fun in the album.

10. I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me - 6/10 - The title is creative, but nothing else is. Everything about this song makes it long and almost painful to listen to. My least favorite song on the album.

11. A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More "Touch Me" - 7/10 - Nothing too great about this track either. It sounds like most of the previous songs that were forgettable.

12. Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying - 7/10 - The only really great part of this song is the end when all the music is taken away, and there is speaking. It shows what the whole song was about and makes its point nicely.

13. XO - 8/10 - The song starts off not so great, but it ends nicely. All in all, it's a pretty good closing to the album.

The album cover contains lyrics to all of the songs, pictures of the band members, and of course, the credits.

I would recommend listening to the clips of the songs that Amazon provides so you can get a real feel for them.

I must to confess at the very beginning I guessed I had made a bad acquisition because I bought it, cause a couple of songs.
In less than an hour I changed my mind. GUAU!! I guess says everything.

I just love this CD, But because of a few skippable tracks, I've only given it 4 stars :] It's GREAT though! When my friend took my iPod home from the night and put the songs from this CD on it, and told me to listen to it, I never stopped thanking him after. xDDD It's just AWESOME, and got me hooked on Fall Out Boy. I downloaded the other two main albums from Limewire, and later on I recently purchased Infinity On High. I also had the HUGE pleasure of being allowed to go to a Fall Out Boy concert!!! I think I was one of the only twelve year old girls right up the front of the mosh pit getting absolutely squished to DEATH, but I tell you, it was the best thing EVER! I happen to be wearing my FOB t-shirt right now, in fact. xD Patrick has a FANTASTIC voice live, and they are such great crowd-pleasers. It was truly AMAZING.
Anyway, onto the ratage of the CD! =3

1) Our Lawyer Made Us Change The Name Of This Song So We Wouldn't Get Sued- 6/10. I just don't like this as much as the other songs, and I don't think it makes a good introduction track. :[ However, it's definitely not a track I skip, and the chorus is very catchy (though Patrick doesn't sing it the same live).

2) Of All The Gin Joints In All The World- 9/10. One of my absolute favourite Fall Out Boy songs!! The verses are so fun to sing along to, especially "I used to waste my time dreaming of being alive, Now I only waste it dreaming of you!". It's also awesome live, especially the "oh oh oh, oh oh, oh oh oh oh oh oh"'s at the start, near the end, and at the very end. Love it!

3) Dance, Dance- 8/10. When I first heard it, I absolutely loved it, but now I'm slightly more partial to it, after having heard plenty of other FOB song. "I'm two quarters and a heart down", and the rest of that pre-chorus is so catchy, I find myself singing along to it every single time. I wish they had included the verse that they left out but was displayed in the demo version (We'll leave you kicking and screaming, etc). Vocals in the chorus are great and Patrick can actually pull them off live (which did, admittedly, surprise me). A nice job on this song, definitely.

4) Sugar, We're Goin Down- 9/10. Pretty much anyone who listens to the radio, or MTV, will have heard of this song. I personally think more hype could have been created over some of the other songs in this CD (and some from their other CDs, too) The chorus is my least favourite part of the song, and I don't find it as catchy as the first and second verse. "Is this more than you bargained for yet? Oh, don't mind me, I'm watching you two from the closet, Wishing to be the friction in your jeans" is pure genius in my opinion. The music at the start is very fun to hum to, as a side note xDD Altogether, not my favourite, but definitely very up there.

5) Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner- 10/10. Love it! The quick little drum bit at the beginning, then the quick launch into the vocals is really great, and this song is so energetic, and fun to lipsynch and sing along to! The chorus is impossible to listen to without singing to, and the transition from SWGD to this song is awesome, too. Don't really have any critiscm for the song at all, every bit of it is very listenable, "Wear me like a locket around your throat, I'll weigh you down, I'll watch you choke" is fantastic, especially when it blends with the chorus at the end. This song is GREAT!

6) I've Got A Dark Alley And A Bad Idea That Says You Should Shut Your Mouth- 7/10. This one definitely grew on me. When I first heard it, I thought it was a bit dreary, slow, and boring, but when I did some research and found out what the song was about, I listened to it in a whole different light, and found the chorus irresistable to sing along to. Not exactly catchy at first, but think about the range Patrick displays in this song, and then appreciate it more. It's definitely not the sort of song that will stick in your mind the first time round, but listen to it a few times and you will begin to love it. As stated in Dead On Arrival, "The songs you grow to like never stick at first"!

7) 7 Minutes In Heaven- 9/10. Music at the start is fantastic to sing to, "da da da"'s in the middle (ft. Brendon Urie from Panic! At the Disco) just as great. "I keep telling myself, I keep telling myself, I'm not the desperate type" is lovely and fast, and incredibly catchy. Lyrical content in this song is incredibly clever and an upbeat way of describing a serious situation (fighting an addiction). Emphasis on the guitar in the chorus is very effective, as well. All in all, this song is awesome, and I never get tired of it!

8) Sophomore Slump Or Comeback Of The Year- 10/10. PURE LOVE!! The lyrics are genius, "The best part of believe is the lie", nobody but Pete Wentz could come up with something so clever! The chorus especially sticks in your mind, and the second verse and refrain, too. Very very clever, I don't know what else to say, it's just great! I could listen to it again and again and again and not get bored of it. =]

9) Champagne for my Real Friends, Real Pain for my Sham Friends- 8/10. The title is great, I just LOVE it. xDD It's awesome. Music at the start is fantastic for leading into the song, "You are a getaway car, Rush of blood to the head" gets you pumped up for sure! This song gets me really excited, it's nice and fast-paced. Great song, though *COULD* be considered a skippable filler track. I would disagree, though, 'cause I love this song. :]

10) I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me- 6/10. Yeah, everyone loves the title, but I'm not so fond of the actual song...I can skip it. =/ Chorus is catchy enough, but I don't sing along with this one that much, it didn't really stand out for me, the only cool part for me is "I found the cure to growing older". Still a good song, just doesn't have something special, at least where vocals are concerned.

11) A Little Less Sixteen Candles, A Little More Touch Me- 10/10. It really doesn't get much better than this! :] Love this one to BITS. Since the first time I heard it, the insanely sticking chorus was in my mind and I was humming it everywhere I went. Lyrics, though repetitive a bit, are still fantastic, and the overall tune is so catchy. Vocals are nothing special, but such a cool song, I can't see how it's possible to dislike it! One of my faves! :D

12) Get Busy Living Or Get Busy Dying- 6/10. In my opinion, the chorus lets the verses down, and the screaming bits...just ergh. Sure, Pete might be a good screamer, but I wish he'd just left the otherwise-perfect vocals of this song to Patrick. D: The best bit of this song is "I know this hurts, it was meant to, it was meant to", the rest of the chorus is a bit mediocre, at least I think so anyway. :] The speech at the end of the song is FANTASTIC, though. The lyrics are very well thought-out, and I can't critisize the music at all, either. This song just didn't stick in my mind much at first, which is why I gave it a 6/10.

13) XO- 9/10. The singing in this song is GREAT, if you're listening to it with headphones on, here's a piece of advice; take one of the headphones out (you need to try with both) until you find the one which is playing the pure vocals at the start ("I comb the crowd...I swear, I say"), you will be amazed by the purity of Patrick's voice. The only letdown to this song for me was how much "To the love I left my conscience pressed" was repeated, I sometimes fastfoward through that bit. I sing this song everywhere I go, it's very addictive, the fast-paced verses remind me of a high-speed car chase, and it really puts me on the edge of my seat listening to it! Awesome song.

All in all, I prefer Take This To Your Grave, but From Under The Cork Tree is a fabulous album, though I think many people have a negative view towards it because of the two main singles on the album, SWGD, and Dance, Dance. Those songs definitely don't represent the best of Fall Out Boy, good though they are. :]

If you haven't already bought From Under The Cork Tree, I HIGHLY recommend going to get it now! Apologies for the insanely long review, I got a bit carried away!

It's fitting that the Kid Rock revival got started when the Beastie Boys featured him in their Grand Royal magazine--and not because the kid from Detroit shares their skin tone. Rock has often been compared with the early Beasties--the boys of "Fight for Your Right to Party" and "Brass Monkey," the boys no one ever thought would grow up. But that's no hindrance to Devil--backed by the funky metal band Twisted Brown Trucker and special guests like blues vets Robert Bradley and Thronetta Davis, Rock is hosting one hell of an interesting party. I bought this album the day it came out almost ten years ago in my hometown of Detroit. Since then I've bought the Limited Edition LP, all of the singles off of it, and the clean radio edition of the album just to say I own them all. To say that I love the album is probably a bit much.

When listening to this album it's key to remember the source and time that it came out. It was released right around the time of the Limp Bizkit era and the rap / rock fusion sound is what we were listening to at the time. This combined with the fact that Kid was originally a Detroit rapper should alone explain the overall sound of the album. If it doesn't then you should consider the source...

It was released by a Detroit artist for a Detroit audience. You're talking about the town where to this day Bob Seger has outsold the Beatles (and with good reason, if you ask me). The music scene in Detroit has always been a little off kilter to the rest of the country, so if you're buying the album specifically for "Only God Knows Why" then you'll be disappointed and should buy the single instead.

You should buy this album if you're looking for a specific sound that you won't hear duplicated anywhere else, before or since.

I've literally worn out my first copy of this CD and bought another. Truly a classic. Rap is crap, but his style of it with hard rock, grit and attitude is fine with me. The album is a public service actually. We needed the song Cowboy to replace Back in Black as the perennial strip club theme song. A replacement was long overdue.

The themes may be familiar, but the spirit is fresh: Working with his United Streets D-Boys of America crew, Young Jeezy finds his flow on Cold Summer and has no compunction about settling into it, even when that means his compadres Slick Pulla and Blood Raw get bumped to the side of the beat. From the hot, hooky "White Chick" (street code for cocaine, despite all the shout-outs to Christina Aguilera) to the bangin' second single "Corporate Thuggin'," this is Jeezy's baby--introspective, Jeez-ified joints like "I Keep Tellin' Myself" and "Live My Life" lay street life out for close inspection, and "Check" and "Focus" chug along to characteristically unstoppable choruses. Slick Pulla and Blood Raw step up most notably on "Get It Up" (Pulla) and "Respect the Shield" (Raw), and they give off an energy Jeezy clearly coasts on; overall, though, the title gets it right. Jeezy's doing the presenting here--he's a cool, capable leader in a unit whose players don't yet equal him, but probably will in the space of a few mixtapes. --Tammy La Gorce

We all know who Jeezy is and what were going to get from him so let me enlighten you on the other two members: Slick Pulla and Blood Raw.
Slick Pulla: Prior to this I've heard him on some mixtapes. Even though his rhymes were mediocre he gave Jeezy a run for his money but on here his rhymes are subpar to say the least.
Blood Raw: The worst rap clone in rap history next to The Realest(2pac clone) and Drag-on(DMX's mini me)! He sounds like Snagglepuss and rhymes like Jeezy. Just pitiful. Since Jeezy wants to sign clones he might as well bury the hatchet with his equally wack archrival Gucci Womane and sign him. There are only two track that are worth mentioning Check is the best song on here and Ride Tonight is okay. The first single White Girl is so stupid one has to wonder how anybody can call it a banger plus the hook is just as silly as the song itself. Classic examples of beatwasting is exhibited on Corporate Thuggin, Get It Up and Focus as all three bust some suspect verses over those dope beats. The original version of Go Getta was nothing to brag about but its better than the lackluster remix with Jadakiss(who had the only decent verse on the track). I Keep Tellin Myself, Pam and Quickie should have been found their way into the studio trash can like this mixtape. Bottom Line: Cold Summer is one of the worst releases of 2007. Young Jeezy, Slick Pulla and Blood Raw busts below average rhymes over dope production(with a few exceptions on the production part) and its safe to say that Jeezy is only going to get worse. Just avoid what comes out of this camp like a rabid dog.

To eloborate on C. Allen's review... the tracks on this album are bangin'. Coming out of ATL, its refreshing to hear an album that doesnt have a dance to match every freakin song. Young Jeezy successfully kept the same winning formula from his debut album with USDA. He still keeps it as street on this album as he did with his underground mixtapes like "I Am The Street Dream" & "Snowman."

I heard he has a mixtape with Fabolous coming out called "When The North & South Collide Part 2"...should be a banger!!!

I gave this a 5 star rating based on the fact it is a mixtape and not an album. If it was an album I would have given it 4 stars but that's besides the point. The USDA did their thing on this album and I'm happy Jeezy introduced them to the public on a commercial standpoint. Like all of other Jeezy related material, there is some solid production. If your not familiar with Jeezy or what he's about then the content of this mixtape may be over your head. Besides that, Jeezy drops some very good verses. Slick and Bloodraw need a little more time to develop.

Some songs I preferred were:
12. I Keep Tellin' Myself, 09. Live My Life, 07. Pam, and 05. Corporate Thuggin'.

Are you guys serious?!?!?! How can you rate this piece of junk of a cd anything higher than a 2. I am not hating on them, just being honest. There isn't one song on this cd where I caould listen to the whole thing. Jeezy has fell off. If want to hear some real Jeezy music before he got saturated with mainstream, listen to Thug Motivation 101, Boyz N Da Hood album, and the DJ Drama Trap or Die Mixtape.

Elsewhere, Young Jeezy and Juelz Santana drop in ("Brown Paper Bag"), as do Trick Daddy ("I'm So Hood"), Ja Rule ("New York"), and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony ("The Originators"). Even Jadakiss and The Game drop by for the ironically uplifting "I'm From the Ghetto," complete with proud children's chorus. Along the way, Khaled serves up alternating plates of melodramatic bass, happy-go-lucky piano riffs ("Before the Solution"), and Dade-county shout-outs. "DJ" Khaled's sophomore effort is pretty easy to break down. Dude is trying to hard to come off hard and it's having the opposite effect on him. He looks more and more lame after every track. It's albums like this that make me say that rap is a lot like pro wrestling -- exaggerated and fake. "Brown Paper Bag" features Young Jeezy, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Lil' Wayne & Dre (of Cool & Dre) on what is easily the corniest song of '07. I mean, have you ever seen or heard a guy trying so hard to prove how hard they are that they end up sounding or looking like a clown? Well that song, and so many of the other tracks on this album are like that. That's what makes this album so silly. Some will say I'm hating on the south, but this album could've come from Canada and I would've still been terrible. I'm still on my crusade to have Rick Ross placed in front of a firing squad because he's been garbage from day one. He alone is responsible for 3 or 4 songs going from "okay" to "doo doo" and he almost ruined "We Takin' Over". Anything Rick Ross doesn't destroy gets finished off by Baby aka Birdman. Him and Ross manage to soil too many songs to make purchasing this a good idea. It would also help a lot if Khaled would quit screaming "we the best" on every track. I'm not talking like once or twice either. He starts almost every song off with it and there are tracks where he says it at least 10 times. Another gripe of mine is that the large number of guests seems like overkill. Again, he's trying too hard.

The best songs on the album are the ones where Khaled abandons tries something different. Despite a hit and miss hook and Khaled's constant yapping, I found "Before The Solution" quite enjoyable after hearing Beanie Sigel unload over some dope production. "The Originators" is another interesting track that features Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. The problem with the good songs is that Khaled has to run his mouth for 45 seconds before the start of every song.

We The Best is actually one of the worst releases of 2007. It's generic, recycled material that anyone with even a little bit of common sense can see right through. Generic, thoughtless song titles, drugs, guns, jewels, lame rappers....I mean, this is straight up by the book factory rap. I see why he calls himself Beat Novakane now....my brain feels numb after hearing this. I recommend downloading the singles and steering clear of this sorry excuse for an album.

I bought this CD on the strength of "We Takin' Over" and feel like a fool for that. I should know better than making an impulse buy just from hearing one song on the radio BUT I gave this CD the benefit of the doubt because of it being a "mixtape", therefore increasing the odds that it wouldn't be crap. Alright Khaled, Khaleed, whatever your name is, you got me. All you do is scream "N" this and "N" that as well as saying "We The Best At This"!! At what? Definitely not making a good album. This is coaster material. Save your money.

DJ Khaled's (A.K.A. Khaled Khaled) second release is "We The Best" (2007). I was not a fan of DJ Khaled's debut last year's "Listennn: The Album. The follow up release is shorter and somewhat better. DJ Khaled and Rick Ross get their audience amped with a decent "Intro (We the Best)" which is followed up by a meaningless skit. The highlight of this album for me is the Danja produced first single "We Takin' Over" a bonafide hit which features appearances from Akon, T.I., Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Birdman and DJ Khaled's Terror squad leader Fat Joe. I don't care for a lot of the radio singles these days, but this track is an exception. Danja's production, Akon's memorable singing and the variety of guest appearances make this track a winner. The second single "Brown Paper Bag" follows, Young Jeezy, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Lil Wayne & Dre kick rhymes over Cool & Dre's production. The production and lyrics are on point, I agree with the reviewer who finds the chorus cheezy, though I can look past that. "I'm So Hood" has T-Pain, Trick Daddy, Rick Ross and Florida rapper Plies teaming up for a semi-decent track. When I first heard "Before the Solution", I thought Beanie Sigel was going to rip up the track, the end result though was a track that does not live up to expectations. "I'm From the Ghetto" is a softer more laidback track which features a children's chorus and guest appearances from The Game, Jadakiss, Trick Daddy & Dre - conceptually it's a decent track which has the Rapper's rhyming about their hoods and upbringing's, musically it's less then memorable. Paul Wall & Bun B provide an average banger with "Hit 'Em Up" while Lil Wayne & Birdman deliver a typical cash money cut with "'S' On my Chest". Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, Trina, Dre, Flo-Rida, Brisco & C-Ride rep their hood on "***** I'm From Dade County", then Bone Thugs-N-Harmony drop in for the lengthy "The Originators". Sometimes a good movie has a subpar sequel, that's how I feel about Jadakiss, Ja Rule & Fat Joe's "New York". Production on this release is solid (DJ Khaled does way to many annoying shoutout's and handles a minute amount of the production). "We Takin Over" elevates this release some for me, all the same I would not recommend "We The Best" for the collection. 2.5.

I was introduced to DJ Khaled when I looked in the liner notes of the CD that he released last year entitled "Listenn! The Album". It was there when I found out that he was also known as Beat Novacane, who produced tracks on various Fat Joe releases. "Listenn! The Album" was basically a mixtape that DJ Khaled released through Koch Records. However, he only produced 3 out of 17 tracks and one of those were the "Intro". The CD was driven by the lead single, "Holla At Me Baby" which featured Lil Wayne, Paul Wall, Rick Ross, Fat Joe & Pitbull, "Problem" which featured Beanie Sigel and Jadakiss and was one of the tracks that DJ Khaled actually produced, "Grammy Family" which featured Kanye West, Consequence and John Legend and "Born And Raised" which featured Trick Daddy, Rick Ross & Pitbull. There were other tracks that you could listen to other than these 4, but they just weren't as memorable or you had tracks where the artists were good artists they just didn't bring their "A" game to the tracks.

In January, yeah that's right, January I heard the track "We Takin' Over". It featured TI, Akon, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Birdman and Lil Wayne. All of these artists, with the exception of Akon, were featured on Fat Joe's remix to "Make It Rain", so that is probably right around the same time when they made this track. Danja, who has co-produced pretty much anything Timbaland has worked on lately, produced the track which will still end up being the rap track for the summer unless you want to pop, lock and drop it for 3 months.

DJ Khaled's 2nd CD is entitled "We The Best" but it's pretty much "Listenn! The Album Volume 2". You get the same artists: Rick Ross, who delivers a decent intro this time around, Trick Daddy, Lil Wayne, Fat Joe, Trina, Styles P., Young Jeezy and Bun B, who were all featured on "Listenn!". The only person missing is Pitbull who was featured on atleast 2 tracks last time around. The 2nd best track is "Brown Paper Bag" which features Young Jeezy, Juelz Santana, Rick Ross, Fat Joe, Lil Wayne and Dre of Cool & Dre. The track would be better if it wasn't for someone squealing "Broooown Paper Baaaag" on the hook (Tony Sunshine). I am not sure whose idea that was but they should have reconsidered their thoughts if they thought that was a nice hook. However, the Cool & Dre production and the artists' chemistry on the track will make you forget about the hook. "Before The Solution" features Beanie Sigel and is 1 of the 2 tracks that DJ Khaled produces on "We The Best". The other track is the Rick Ross featured "Intro". "Before The Solution" has Beanie Sigel bringing up several events like Jay-Z not showing up to visit him in prison, what's up with State Property, etc. The only problem is that Beanie is not talking about the topics 100% because he is supposedly saving the rest of the details for his new CD, "The Solution", like it's a sneak preview or something. The track is nice and so are Beanie's lyrics, you just will wish that Beanie presented everything in a different format. "I'm So Hood" features Trick Daddy, Rick Ross, T-Pain and Plies, who I originally heard on a track with Trick Daddy entitled "Duck Down" and who currently has the MTV Jam of the week with "Shawty", a track that features Plies with T-Pain on the hook. "I'm So Hood" is definitely in the top 5 on "We The Best" as all of the artists give good performances on the track from The Runners and T-Pain actually brings flavor from the track because he isn't in love with a stripper. "B**** I'm From Dade County" features Trick Daddy, Trina, Rick Ross, Dre from Cool & Dre, Brisco, Flo rida and C-Ride. The track samples 2 lines that Trick Daddy had on "Born And Raised" and is actually a tight song. If it had been cut down by 2 minutes the track would have even been better. The Runners also produce "Hit Them Up" which features Bun-B, who definitely has a nice verse and Paul Wall. Bun B and his partner Pimp C (UGK) also has one of the best songs out right now with Outkast with the "International Player's Anthem".

There are other tracks that are worth listening to like "New York" which features Jadakiss, Fat Joe and Ja-Rule, yes that Ja-Rule and the bonus track "No Hook" which features Styles P., Cassidy, Jim Jones and Rob Cash and even Shareefa, who was a "Boss" and ready to not "Cry No More" earlier this year, represents on the bonus track, "The Streets", which also features Willie Northpole.

However, there are some tracks that you'll be trying to figure out or wonder to yourself Why? as well. First we have "I'm From The Ghetto" which features The Game, Jadakiss, Trick Daddy and I'll assume Tony Sunshine on a Cool & Dre track. The lyrics aren't that bad but the cheesy chorus has to go. Another thing that will turn you off is that the track is put into a Jaheim "Fabolous", we made it out of the ghetto type format. I tried listening to this track again to see if it would grow on me, but it didn't work. Next up, is Lil Wayne and Birdman on "S" On My Chest". Lil Wayne has made 2 Carter CDs and a nice mixtape with "Dedication 2". I expect better from him than this. He's becoming too much of a hit and miss rapper. The dope cuts are nice but the bad tracks aren't even average. Last and maybe least is "The Originators" with Bone Thugs N Harmony. At times, you get the BTNH of old and with this track you get the why are they even still rappin' stage. Fellas you have a new CD out called "Strength & Loyalty". However, this track will make you want to leave the CD on the shelf.

Overall, "We The Best" has its moments. However, with the quality of the artists, you just expect better. Some artists are featured on various tracks on this CD but they don't bring their "A" game on every track they are featured on. If you collect CDs like I do you may want certain songs so you should buy this. However, if you are looking for a CD that you can listen to 5 years from now you may want to leave this one on the rack.

P.S. How many times can you say "Listenn!!!" and "We The Best" on one CD, DJ Khaled? We get the point.

if you don't have any 2pac albums, this is a perfect start. The songs are very close to what I would have picked for a greatest hits.
If you really like 2pac and rap, I would say skip this and buy each of his cd's instead. There still is some great material from him not on this CD

Bad things don't exist on this album, every trakc is Pac at his finest. However there are so many more that should be on here, like Pain (which was omitted from Above The Rim and can't be found anywhere), F*ck The World, Pour Out A Little Liquor, and tons more!!! This CD has to be a part of your collection if you dare to call yourself a Tupac fan. Tupac Shakur is not easily dismissed when it comes to music of the century. Yeah I said music, not just "rap" music. Music is felt and moves the listener, putting it in a category is not what qualifies it. Nothin but Cali Love for my homie !!!!!!! For all you haters, listen and learn how its done on the real.

Tupac Shakur 1971-1996 was one of the pioneers for West Coast Gangsta Rap in the 90's and despite being a fantastic MC he got just as much time in the spotlight for his lifestyle, cocky attitute, controvercial behavior, problems with the law and later his premature death. Many of his early songs were thugish gangsta anthems with explicit lyrics and at times it felt like Pac got trapped under that particular charachter, but that's only one side of the story. He portaited an ideal of a young stuggling black male with a troubled past that wouldn't get away from him. From time to time there were also songs that dealt with deeper subject like unwanted pregnancy of a young girl on "Brenda's Got a Baby" Friendship "If My Home Calls", Respect For Women on "Keep Ya Head Up" and premature deaths of homies on "Life Goes On". Tupac's versability and undpredictable behavior was fascinating and his sometimes very emotional sides aswell. He was far from the one-dimensional thug as the media wanted to make him. However, after two successful solo albums Tupac was sent to jail after sexual assault on a fan. While in Jail he started reflecting over his life and eventually his third album was penned, "Me Against the World" a very deep, serious and sincere album. Songs like, the title track, "If I Die 2 Nite", "Tempations", "So Many Tears" and ofcourse the touching tribute to his mother "Dear Mama". It debuted at #1 on the album charts making Tupac the first artist in Prison to top the charts. Perhaps it was also his greatest album too. Some fans however, didn't apreciate the changed Tupac and when his forth album "All Eyez On Me" was finally released it was a back 2 back album that mostly dealt with issues that made 2pac a star back in the day. It was a huge commercial success with hits like the westcoast anthem "California Love", "How Do You Want It" "I Ain't Mad At Cha" and "Heartz of Men". It was also the first ever double album in Hip Hop, making it an even bigger ambition. He also enjoyed great success with acting, other then starring against Janet Jackson in "Poetic Justice" in 1993, he was also making a few films later on. Sadly Tupac was shot to death in a drive by shooting in September 1996 and this ultimately led to an even bigger legacy of an Hip Hop soldier dying as an martyr, and rumours started popping up that he wasn't really dead, Considering there was and still is loads on unreleased material. And who killed Tupac, was it Suge Knight that was scared he would abandon his label? or was it a vendetta from East Coast Rappers?, or was it an old feud from somewhere else?. When Tupac died he was probably the greatest rapper alive, both enormously popular, controvercial and equally good writer and MC. He did use alot of samples to his music though and his lifestyle was a contributing factor to his legacy but he was a magnificient artist that sadly left us too soon. Like some people mentioned, this "Greeatest Hits" collection was released by Death Row and some minor hits weren't included, however you get most of the important hits and with 25 songs on this doubles album you shouldn't be dissapointed. Remember, 2pac was a very productive musician and released countless of singles and having them all included would make this album too long. Overall, Great Collection that captures his best moments. Rest In Peace.

Wow I loved this album. Just got all the essentials, I didn't own any of 2pac's records before i got this, but now i am a massive fan. They don't call it greatest hits for nothing!!! I love every track, the man was a friggin genious. He really did a great job with his music, every song you get something different. I could honestly listen to this all day. Picking my favourite is very hard but i'd have to say Dear Mama, he made songs everyone could relate to,it was just amazing. Don't sleep on this one, highly HIGHLY recommended.

"There's a lot more attention to detail on this record," Jade recalls. "We spent a long time writing it. We refused to rush ourselves. We took our time not just on every song but on each guitar part, each vocal, each bass line. We definitely didn't rush into the studio."

The fruit of this labor is a record that Davey Havok is confident "should break us out of any preconceived genres." And even on a cursory listen, the wealth and diversity of material backs him up from the first note: "Prelude 12/21" is a rhythm/vocal-oriented curveball that differs radically from the customary calls to arms that have opened all AFI albums since Black Sails. Of AFI fans' reaction to the new record, Davey says, "Our fans always come with us every step of the way. I think they recognize honesty in our music, that this is the only way we can express ourselves, to make music that we love. Nothing else. That's what allowed us to make the jump way back when and what continues to keep us going now."

I am a fan of an album that can tell a story from beginning to end. I think this album does that. I listen to something from this album almost every day. I have it on my shuffle while I run. It always makes me smile and pick up the pace a little. I think, "I wonder what the person on the treadmill next to me is listening to; because, it can't compare to this." I just love each song more and more everytime I hear it.
I bought this and Sing the Sorrow at the same time. I do have to say; I think Sing the Sorrow has more angst/ possibly emotion but this album has more of a cohesive story.
I think they are one of the best bands of the current music scene. There are alot of duds out there!

By listening to this album alone, one would never image that AFI was once a respecable hXc punk band. Now AFI is listed with the likes of "A Panic at the Disco" and "My Chemical Romance". Where is the thrashing guitar? What happened to the in your face vocals? From a man that lists Ian Mackaye as a vocal influence, the garbage vocals on this album could not hold a light to Minor Threat. Many reviewers on this site call the transformation which AFI has undergone progression, but I think a better suited label would be change. Change from dominant thrashing guitar and heartfelt vocals (with amazing Nick 13 backup) to watered down screamo anthems. But I guess bending over backwards pays the bills.

From the look of it, AFI has taken another wise step into making their major label sophomore release a sure success! Every song has a beat of its own and a meaning that transcends every corner of rock music! My favorite song in the albums is "The Missing Frame," seconded by "Love like Winter." Please take time to listen closely to this band and their great effort, wait, did I say effort? More like a masterpiece!

5 out of 5 stars Something every AFI fan needs..........2007-05-13

No, this album is by no means like anything else you've heard by them, but if you are a true AFI fan you are going to know that already. None of their albums have ever sounded the same. They grow between each record. The earlier hardcore punk kids have now evolved into something that you just cant classify. The only thing you can do is sit back and listen. The hard work that went into this cd is clear and it was well worth the three year wait between STS and DU. Davey blows us away again with his powerful voice and lyrics and Hunter, Jade, and Adam are right there with him pounding unforgettable music through our veins.

Prelude is a great opener with a heart pounding drumbeat and amazing guitar. Davey's voice is commanding and soft at the same time, a real preview for what is to come for the rest of the album.

Kill Caustic is one of the two hardest songs and probably the one closets to resembling anything from Black Sails on backward.

Miss Murder was the single we waited for and it was amazing when it came out. Its the way the close their shows and it really is just a good fun song. Not that the lyrics arent deep, but the music will cause you to bop your head despite what the words are.

Summer Shudder should have been the third single but I think they have decided to go with The Missing Frame. Melodic with a little bit of violin. Great song.

The Interview was the first song on the cd to send chills down my spine. Davey's voice is amazing here and the lyrics are beautiful. Its the slower song on the cd and its one of my favorites. "Hold me you may drop me tomorrow' is an amazing line and the emotion you hear in Davey's voice makes it all the better.

Love Like Winter is catchy and its fun and just a good song that really shows where some of their influences come from.

Affliction is the second hard hitting song on the cd and its coupled with hard hitting music and melodic background vocals. Nice.

The Missing Frame was the song they chose as single number three and it definitely has the potential for airplay. Its one of the longest songs on the cd, but its not overdone.

Kiss and Control... God, its my favorite one. This was the one I wanted as a single because as an AFI fan, its the videos that make a lot of this so much fun and this would have made an amazing video. Its dark and rough and everything you'd want in a song. The guitar is amazing and the tiny speaking part towards the end is hard hitting and powerful.

Killing Lights is a fun little song, very bouncy.

37MM is amazing, very Depeche Mode. I loved it upon first listen and love it still.

Endlessly She Said was the only song on the Cd to make me cry. The raw emotion in Davey's voice, the music, all of it is so heartbreaking and at the same time very angry. An amazing song and a great way to end the cd.

Expirimentation can make or break a band. For some, trying new things seems to interfere with the songwriting process, showing new sounds for the band but forgettable songs. In each release, AFI have consistently managed to bring new sounds and elements into the equation while retaining excellent songwriting and performances. All the while never quite being able to put them in the nice, neat little boxes called "genres".

Decemberunderground may be the bands finest example of this. I don't prefer it to any other AFI record, but it offers something the others don't, just as the others off something this doesn't. AFI truly get it by bringing new elements to keep things fresh but keeping the melodies, the mood, the songs, and the emotion and not settling for less than they've done before.

"Prelude 12/21" is the perfect opener. It's not as chant oriented as past openers, but is a definite sign of things to come with the record. The band brings several electronic elements into their songs, including the single "Love Like Winter" and "Summer Shudder". The band show new expirimentation in their songwriting on tracks like "37mm" (possibly my favorite song off the album) and "The Interview".

There's something here for the fan of AFI's older material, as well. "Affliction" and "Kill Caustic" remind one of their 1997 album, Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes without sounding redundant, and "Endlessly, She Said" could fit nicely on any of their post-Shut Your Mouth... albums.

"Summer Shudder" and "37mm" are easily my favorites. Tons and tons of layers, very personal lyrics, all come together with the songs themselves to create something very special that you don't come across all too often. Although don't get me wrong, EVERY song on here is worth listening to, and not a weak moment that I can think of.

Decemberunderground is excellent in that you fall in love with it and are happy with it, but the bands constant reinvention with new sounds, elements, and concepts always makes you want more and keeps you guessing as to what they'll do next.

Ignore the "Emo" and "Scene" bull that seems to follow this band around. I've been a fan since 2000, AFI didn't go "scene", the scene caught onto them. Stop caring about the trends, stop caring about their "look", and just listen.
