Australian director George Miller's Mad Max was a modestly budgeted, post-apocalypse sci-fi exploitation masterpiece that turned both he and star Mel Gibson into hot Hollywood commodities. The Road Warrior delivered on that promise in spades, its success insuring that the Max films would become a full trilogy. The bloated Hollywood effects and set budgets may have overwhelmed Thunderdome's visual potential (has the post-apocalypse ever looked so busy?), but the addition of veteran composer Maurice Jarre now seems one of the production's shrewdest moves. Anchored by a pair of Tina Turner pop songs (the bittersweet hit "We Don't Need Another Hero" and the 80's tech-inflected "One of the Living") and a disposable instrumental version of "Hero," Jarre follows with cues unusually sequenced into three sweeping orchestral suites. "Bartertown"'s primitive, metallic rhythmic flourishes, seasoned by jazzy sax and dark strings, give the film its sense of time and place, while the bright, semi-exotic pastoralism of "The Children" and "Coming Home"'s more traditional heroics give the film its distinctive, Lawrence of Arabia-Lite dramatic sweep. --Jerry McCulley

Do I need another hero ?.......2006-08-08
Back in 1985 I saw this movie in a local theatre as soon as
the movie finished I got the cassette since then I take care
of it very well so it seems to be new ,two years later I
got the vinyl now is available on cd so I am planning to get
a copy just because I have just seen the mad max trilogy,
my memories back in those years make feel as if I were
18 years old again ! now I am 39 and love Tina since
she realesed Private Dancer I think she has been one of those complete persons in the entretaining music industry for a very long time...mamories again .
greetings from México to all of u in the world
The only two Tina Turner songs I really like!.......2006-05-01
I am not a big Tina Turner, or even a Movie Soundtrack fan. But HEY, that's just me! However, the two songs by Tina that I DO enjoy are found on this CD.
"We Don't Need Another Hero" and "One Of The Living" definitely put Tina smack into the middle of the "Rock & Roll" genre! She puts so much sultry sexiness into each of these tunes, that you just can't help but play them over and over again.
The BONUS track on the CD? The instrumental version of "We Don't Need Another Hero." This is practically a "karaoke" version. I often play this track in the car, and sing the song to myself. However, I don't make a good Tina Turner ... she's MUCH sexier ... and sounds better!
Here is a tip for the reviewer who thought that the versions on this CD were slower than the movie versions:
Use your computer to "rip" the tunes from your CD. Then, take a music editing software program (Windows Media v10 ... for example) and adjust the speed/tempo of the tracks to fit your expectations. You can then save the edited tracks into any format you wish. There are many other FREE editing programs that can be found on the Internet.
Easy, Peezy, Lemon Squeezy!
Brilliant CD!!!.......2005-10-25
The only reason I bought this CD was for the track "We don't need another hero" which was one of my all time favourites as a kid growing up in the 80's. When the CD arrived I played it immediately and I was rockin and bobbin all over the place. Then the track "One of the living" came on and WOW -- I had forgotten how good that song was. The price of the CD is worth it for those two tracks alone. I now have the problem of where I want to play it the most....in the car driving down the freeway with the music blarring out loud or at home driving the neighbours insane!! This CD is Brilliant....I'm sure I'll wear it out before many of the CD's I have had for a few years. Do your self a favour and buy this CD!!!!
ONE OF THE LIVING SINGLE.......2005-06-13
I purchased this album specifically for the song "One of the Living". After listening to the track I found that this song on the album differs from the one played in the movie. I was extremely disappointed. The song was flat and slower than the movie version and Tina dosn't hit the high notes as she does in the movie version song. Anyone looking to buy this album just for the track "One of the Living" (her greatest recording in my opinion), should not bother if you are looking for the movie version.
2 GREAT TINA SONGS .......2004-11-25
I agree with everyone so far...that One Of The Living is probably the defining moment of the real Rock-n-Roll Tina !! I had the privilege of seeing her perform it in concert in 1987 and it was "Simply The Best" =) The video is awesome too(still gotta watch it regularly)...with the original Tina Band members and Tina at her rawest ! This album only has two original Tina songs on it, but these two are good enough to buy the album alone. Beyond Thunderdome hit # 2 on Billboard and One of the Living hit # 15 (should have been higher)

Customer Reviews:
Honestly, Does PC69 ever make a poor album?.?.?.......2007-04-20
The answer, in my opinion, is so far NO. I got into Pink Cream 69 a little over a month ago when I purchased Electrified on the recommendation of Amazon, since then I've picked up 4 more albums. Thunderdome delivers more amazing melodic rock/metal with the bands' usual high quality. David Readman can deliver a vocal that can amaze you - he can stand toe to toe with anyone around today. Alfred Koffler is a very good guitarist; Dennis Ward(bass) and Kosta Zafiriou(drums) hold things together. Listen for the production on the drums, there's a crispness and snap that's really cool.
Song Highlghts include: Gods Come Together(powerful rocker), Here I Am, That Was Yesterday, Shelter(my personal favorite), My Sharona(it may be a cover - but it's a good one), Another Wrong Makes A Right and See Your Face(very cool piano groove).
Thunderdome is another, in a long line, of great releases from PC69. It simply does not get much better if you are looking for powerful melodic metal, with the whole package - songwriting, musicianship and production.
This is what I want everytime!.......2006-12-14
Thank God that Pink Cream 69 knows how to deliver the goods. This album is heavy and filled with outstanding riffs and awesome vocal melodies. The songs are very memorable and the quality goes on throughout the entire album. I have alot of PC69 CD's but I like this one the best because the production is huge and the riffs are insane! By the way, David Readman is an awesome singer whose vocal melodies are so good it's unbeleivable and when he gets those killer harmonies and backing vocals going it is magic. I can't wait for their new album due out in 2007.
PC69 Never Disappoints.......2006-03-27
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Pink Cream 69 is the absolute best melodic hard rock band in the world right now. I know that's a bold statement, but I believe it more and more every time PC69 releases a new album.
Thunderdome is the band's latest album, and it is superb. It follows very closely along the same lines as Electrified and Sonic Dynamite. It's very heavy, bordering on being a metal album, but is always melodic. Dennis Ward is fast becoming one of the best songwriters in the genre, and Thunderdome reaffirms that. Nearly every song on this disc is a winner, with the exception of the throwaway introductory track "the Last Stance" and a cover of the Knack's "My Sharona". I'm sure the band had fun with that one, but it really throws a monkeywrench into an otherwise cohesive album. As always, David Readman's clear and powerful vocals are top-notch. Next to DC Cooper, Readman has just about the best voice for this style of music.
AOR/melodic rock fans probably already know how great Pink Cream 69 is. For any metal fans who are thinking about trying the band out, I say go for it. The band played at ProgPower USA last year and made believers of about 1200 metal fans.
The bad stuff of the 80s.......2005-08-17
After I read all the glowing reviews about this CD I took a chance on a band I had never heard of and purchased this CD. DAMN, what a mistake!!! Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and to the people who like this, more power to ya. But to my ears this CD contains all the worst aspects of the 80s Hard Rock arena. The stuff that I like is the grittier, more street type music and bands, such as the top of the heap, Guns N' Roses, and then the rest like: Faster Pussycat, L.A Guns, from NYC Spread Eagle, and then more recent bands D-Generation and Buckcherry. I was not into the Winger/Slaughter type music, which is squarely where this band and CD fall into. Everything is processed, nothing feels 'real'. The vox and guitars have all the cliches and 'overdoneness' that were the worst part of Hard Rock from the past. You can almost imagine the band-members making their funny faces in the cheesiest of videos when listening to these songs. It is over-produced, sterile, lame schlock n' roll if u ask me. And just for more reference. I am definitely a RnR nut. My collection of music borders in the thousands between the cds and records. And once again to the people who liked this cd, hey different strokes for different folks but I just wanted to warn others so they know what they're getting themselves into. Take care all.
80s music with new millenium production.......2005-06-24
PC 69 is an awesome band. I have three of their albums, and I am yet to be dissappointed. PC 69 is in-your-face 80s metal, but with way better sound and production. Nothing fancy in the instrument department, but the songs are well crafted. The real strength is vocalist David Readman. I first came across David when he was in Adagio. I was blown away by his range and tone. Nothing is forced from his voice. He has a natural sound. He is probably my favorite singer in the prog genre. Every song is killer, but my favorites are "Gods Come Together", "Thunderdome", "Shelter", "Another Wrong Makes a Right", and "Carnaby Road". "That Was Yesterday" is a great ballad. The two bonus tracks are awesome as well. If you like the good bands from the 80s, like Whitesnake & Dokken, PC 69 is right up your alley! Highly recommended!

The Fantasy Album.......2007-05-09
You can't have too many Sci-Fi albums. This is a good addition to anyone's collection. A good crosssection of SF music. It even has music from The Thief of Bagdad from the 30s(?)
nice release from Silva.......2005-08-15
As with most of the recent Silva America releases, Silva Screen has compiled older recordings from previous CDs and added some new material exclusively for this release. In this case, Silva has recorded music from The first Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings films, both Mummy films and Gladiator. I'm not sure what else is new, but combine these excellent tracks with golden age material from Hermann and Rozsa, and some Elfman (Batman, Edward Scissorhands) and Williams (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Witches of Eastwick) for good measure, you have a heckuva compilation.
The performance is first rate with only the Raiders March being a subpar track.
Outstanding Fantasy Scores from Hit Fantasy Movies.......2003-04-05
If you're looking for some fantasy role-playing game backround music to play or just like mostly classical fantasy-esque music, this double CD contains excellent scores wrapped in whopping total of 140+ minutes worth of music.
Classic music from your favorite hit fantasy and action movies are found all over this huge, quality collection. You'll hear suites and sounds from outstanding films like Lord of the Rings, Gladiator, Willow, The Mummy, Harry Potter, Excalibur, Conan, Highlander, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and more.
A recent (2002) and impressive collection of musical scores, and by far the best CDs I've personally bought for fantasy themed music.
"successful formula from Silva spells Classic all the way".......2002-09-24
History repeats itself with this latest compilation from Silva Screen "Fantasy Album:Adventure & Fantasy at the Movies", a heap of music to digest within the twenty-eight tracks. All beautifully arranged and conducted by Paul Bateman and Nic Raine with the City Of Prague Orchestra in full force...with the helping hand of David Temple (choir master) of the Crouch End Festival Chorus. A perfect blend from brew master James Fitzpatrick(producer) who has impeccable foresight and taste in film music.
What I most enjoy about Silva, is the fact they always have the lesser recorded selections within the big picture...take for instance "THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD"(1958), "THE THREE WORLDS OF GULLIVER" (1960), "MYSTERIOUS ISLAND" (1961) and "JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS" (1963), all four composed by Bernard Herrmann who is in a class by himself, they'll never be another.
But for my money the highlight picks are "GLADITOR"(2000), Hans Zimmer's recreation of the spectacle that was Romes, with man against man, man against beast and the armies that clashed and fell under the powerful story that unfolds within this suite from the film ~ "BEETLEJUICE", "EDWARD SCISSORHANDS" and "BATMAN", each from the films of Tim Burton still ring true within the realm of great direction and storytelling, this can only be topped by composer Danny Elfman who adds the frosting to an appetizing treat ~ "LEGEND" (1985), can faeries, goblins, woodland spirits mix well with the Lord of Darkness...only the legendary Jerry Goldsmith can conjure up a tune to drive the entire cast into a frenzy with "FARIE DANCE/REUNITED", this is the stuff nightmares are made of with a happy ending of course.
With composers like Tan Dun, Randy Edelman, Danny Elfman, Jerry Goldsmith, Bernard Herrmann, James Horner, Maurice Jarre, Michael Kamen, Brian May, Jerome Moross, Carl Orff, Basil Poledouris, Miklos Rozsa, Howard Shore, Alan Silvestri, John Williams and Hans Zimmer...one can only hope this will last forever. Silva, I don't know how you do it, but keep them coming...gotta love it!

Great introduction to the world of Gabber.......2005-07-20
A lot of classics are on this album. For You Marlene,Pessa Pessa,Nonshlen Tustokken,Rock Steady,This is the Thunderdome and of course BOTTROP(the first track on the very first Thunderdome).
In my home country Holland this music was quite popular in the mid nineties and I was a big fan as well.A lot of movie samples,a lot of rock samples and so forth.
Hard style bass and freaky tunes are the best way to describe this kind of music.
Buy the very first Thunderdome if you can!
All the best hardcore-house tracks of the year 1998!.......1999-03-12
Well, they've done it again at ID&T. They've compiled yet another smashing CD containing every die-hard fan's favourite tracks. If you know nothing about hardcore-house you should listen to this CD and you'll know why this CD gave me one hell of a time listening to it!
