Good service, quality product, delivered fast.......2007-02-08
Looked for this CD for a longtime, to replace my old vinyl record. Found it via amazon, title says the rest!
Somewhat misleading........2004-05-15
I bought this CD because another CD of Gene McDaniels I recenty acquired did not have the original version of "A Tear" on it. That CD had a remake of the song with a slighty different beat and surprisingly different lyrics at the end of the song. (I have a scratched up 45 rpm of the song so I know what it should sound like.)
The advertisement for this CD read "All tracks are digitally remastered from the original master tapes." This could be but the track for "A Tear" is not the original recording from the 60's. It's the same as the other CD I have where all the tracks on it are remakes.

Music That Casts A Long Shadow.......2007-06-13
It's interesting to read the less than enthusiastic reviews many listeners give to fine recordings. In reality listeners are writing a critique of their own premature reactions to music they haven't spent enough time absorbing. Case in point is this excellent release by Brooks Williams. I too was listening to Knife Edge and Seven Sisters before I purchased this release. My initial reaction was less than enthusiastic. After letting the cd sit on the shelf for a few years, I returned to this music puzzled at my initial reaction because this has become my favorite Brooks album. The added production is very tastful and balanced and takes nothing away from the performance of these excellent songs. The guitar playing is fabulous as well. I find myself returning to this cd often. Another triumph for Mr. Williams.
a finely crafted piece of music.......2000-06-28
This is a great album, merging various styles to create a sound all his own. Brooks is a master, and this album is an example of that.
Brooks' "Hundred Year Shadow" not as compelling.......2000-01-26
From the slow and bluesy "Darker Kind of Blue" to the Johnny Cash inflected "Monkey", 'Hundred Year Shadow' may be one of Brooks more diverse musical offerings. Perhaps this is not only because of variety of styles he explores, but also because this CD finds Brooks covering a number of other artists, from the Beatles' "I Will" to the radio friendly "My Love Will Follow You", a track written by Buddy and Julie Miller.
More upbeat and less melancholy than its predecessor, 'Hundred Year Shadow' also features a full band on most tracks. In my opinion, this weakens the album to the extent that it lacks the sense of intimacy heard on 'Seven Sisters'. I must say, too, that the songs on this CD are not as memorable as those on recent albums. It feels at times like Brooks "light". Brooks shines brighter when either unaccompanied or when the accompaniment is minimal. This may have something to do with the production as well. So, while this CD is pretty good, if you've not listened to Brooks I'd recommend 'Knife Edge' as a place to start. And if you can find them, early albums like 'North From Statesboro' and 'When the Nighttime Sings' are also highly recommended.

strength of a hundred.......2000-03-31
This is avery short apraisal of an excellent debut cd by Hundred strong. It features Mc's and turntablists from both the USA and Uk and focuses on the cerebral side of Hip-Hop.The beats have that definite Bristol air , but each featured artist brings their own strength to the project. Not just a British Hip-Hop album but a body of work that has plenty of depth and possibly the first internationally underground Hip-Hop lp for a long time.
