Customer Reviews:
A Nettwerk classic.......2006-07-03
I almost forgot about this one until I ran across an old cassette tape of it that I have while cleaning my closet. I haven't heard all of Severed Heads releases. So far, I've only heard Come Visit the Big Bigot, Bad Mood Guy, and Rotund for Success. Of those three, Bad Mood Guy is my favorite. Each of the releases has at least one song that I really like, but, Bad Mood Guy has several. My favorites are Jetlag, Unleash Your Sword, Hot with Fleas, and Bad Mood Guy. Jetlag alone makes this release worth buying. The only song that I don't like is Rabbi Nardoo Flagoon which is possibly one of the most annoying songs ever created. Overall, I consider it a pretty solid release though.
1987 sounds like yesterday.......2000-03-25
Though simple, this seems to have aged surprisingly better than other 80's electronica. It's quite charming, alternating clever but harmless lyrical excursions with fun little synthy ditties. It's amusing how many genres this apparently encompasses. Why is this the only album Amazon has? RFS is another classic.
unleash a sword..........2000-03-20
this album represents a kind of rebound from the amazing rise of "come visit the big bigot / dead eyes" release (oh, how i remember "we've come to bless this house" floating across those early MTV midnites... those were the days of true music television). anyway, the bigot / dead eyes comp. is still the best investment for any newly severed head. however, this record has some equally transcendent moments (of course, "unleash your sword", "dressed in air", etc.). the catch with this disc is the irony of increased production values vs. the essence of sevcom's original contribution : beautifully gritty musical inspiration (i.e. less production) coupled with insanely rhythmic pre-techno hallucinations. the later years of "new order-esque" efforts have only served to diminish the memorable innovations that this outfit served up in the midst of an 80's musical vacuum full of hair spray. the full severed heads back catalog seems destined for re-release somewhere farther down the road of "where was it then?"--until that time, i'd recommend this for its pioneering sample-ridden musicality. spotters take note!
OK, let's try that again.......2000-01-13
