Album Description
Top of the British Classical Charts for 10 Weeks! Billboard Top Ten Classical Recording - December 2002! This album gathers together most of the carols I have composed over the years, plus a sprinkling of my arrangements of traditional carols, grouped to form a program which narrates, reflects upon, and celebrates the Christmas story. I have always enjoyed carols ever since I first sang them as a member of my school choir, and it was not long before I began to write carols of my own-in fact my first two published compositions were the Nativity Carol and the Shepherd's Pipe Carol. For any musician involved in choral music, Christmas is an especially joyous time, and I am indeed happy that it has played a part in my musical life for so many years- JOHN RUTTER
Customer Reviews:
Rutter Christmas Album.......2007-05-14
Great selection of music, and well presented. This is however older recordings that do not match the quality of Rutter's latest recordings such as the Te Deum or the Gloria.
Unique and Beautiful!.......2007-03-09
John Rutter, and his beautiful music, is such a gift to the world. This unique Christmas CD is magnificent! Especially touching are two of Rutter's original carols, "Christmas Lullaby" and the joyful "Angels' Carol." The musical selections speak to the soul, helping the listener connect to emotions of joy, peace, faith, hope, and love. This is a worthy addition to your collection of Christmas CDs.
Johh Rutter Chirstmas Album.......2007-02-19
If I were to choose only one Christmas album to ever own, this would be the one. John Rutter is an exceptional composer of religious music, with unusual harmonies. The music is difficult to sing, and because this is his own choir and he is directing it, the performance is flawless. Gives you goosebumps.
Liked it enough to go through a lot of trouble to give it a review........2007-02-07
Great music by John Rutter: Great performance!
John Rutter and Cambridge Singers.......2007-01-18
This is quintessential English cathedral music; beautifully sung. Reminds one of the English Christmas -- warm and serene -- that we've only experienced in our dreams!

Possibly my favorite original Martina album.......2006-01-06
Only two of the tracks here - the title track and Safe in the arms of love - were included on Martina's Greatest hits collection, but this is a fine collection of songs, so many of which sound like they ought to have been hits.
Martina McBride has recorded many fine albums, but I find this one particularly appealing is the use of traditional instruments (steel guitar, mandolin, fiddle) together will all the instruments normally to be found on nineties pop-country albums. Listening to this, nobody can be in any doubt that Martina is, at heart, a country singer, even if her music has plenty of pop mixed in with it.
The only oldie on here is Two more bottles of wine, a song written and first recorded by Delbert McClinton but which became better known after it was covered by Emmylou Harris. Emmylou's version first appeared on Quarter moon in a ten-cent town and was also a major country hit for her. Because of that, it has appeared on several Emmylou compilations.
All the other songs are originals and the general feel of the album on first listen is upbeat, partly because the songs are so catchy that any sadness is not always obvious from the music. There are sad songs here, notably Phones are ringing all over town and A great disguise. A song that sounds as if it ought to be sad, All the things we've never done, is actually not at all sad, but reflective and looking forward to a bright future.
You've been driving all the time is about female domination, but as is so often the case with such songs, it is immediately followed by a song expressing a woman's need for a man - in this case, Born to give my love to you.
This is a very entertaining album that clearly demonstrates why Martina is one of the finest and most successful pop-country singers around. Now re-issued at a budget price, it's even better value for money.

Standup comedian, actress, and singer Lea DeLaria presents a less confrontational image here than she did on 1994's Bulldyke in a China Shop, adopting the role of seductive, witty, confident, and heterosexual jazz chanteuse to perfection. Her voice ranges from little-girl-lost innocence to harder-edged tones, both suited to the opening "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd." With stylings from Billie Holiday to Judy Garland, "I've Got Your Number" heads straight for the heart of 1950s big-band balladry, improvised scat vocals proving DeLaria can swing with the best. "Cool" is anything but, the accompaniment understated, that voice dripping with the promise of sex. In "With Every Breath I Take," we get to imagine every late night smoky bar in every old Hollywood film we've ever seen--while it is pastiche, the characterization is startlingly evocative.
DeLaria sums it up with "All That Jazz," confidently suggesting, following her recent twin roles in the lavishly acclaimed 2000 Broadway revival of The Rocky Horror Show, that this girl just wants to have fun playing bad. When she sings "Life Has Been Good to Me," she has such an upbeat twinkle, you suspect she means every word. --Gary S. Dalkin
Customer Reviews:
if you like female jazz vocalists you'll love this album.......2004-07-27
I wish Delaria would put out more albums like this one. Her voice and interpretation of the songs on the album are really great and withstand lots of repeat plays. Highly recommended. Many of the cuts are worth 5 stars, but I didn't really like all of her song choices, so that's why I rated the album 4 stars.
Everyone does it, and seldom as well..........2004-04-10
All I can say is...WOW.
When my partner and I saw Lea perform her routine in P-town, she wowed us with a stunning version of one of my all-time favorites, "The Ballad of Sweeny Todd." We bought her CD on the spot and it stayed in my car's CD player for weeks on end (and then I only took it out because I had to switch cars).
I enjoyed the whole album, but I found myself playing the first track over and over, and even singing it in the shower. I must disagree with the "Cigar" review on all counts, at least regarding this track. The song lends itself so beautifully to swingin' jazz I can't believe nobody thought of it before. But I'm glad no one has, because Lea DeLaria knocks it out of the park. The smooth delivery is perfect for the dry humor of the lyrics, her belts are such a perfect blend of head and chest it sends chills up my spine, and the arrangement is spot-on. The best part - it stands up beautifully to repeat listenings; I just can't grow tired of this rendition. The opening track alone is worth twice the price of this CD.

...This bull... in a china closet just flat kills.. you like your jazz delivered with power, style, and class.. Lea delivers. You want your jazz to swing? It does that too. My highest rating. It won't leave your cd player anytime soon. Did I mention the musicians helping Lea are just as hot?

WOW - one of the best !!!.......2006-11-08
What a great album - fun arrangements, beautiful harmonies. This is one of the best Christmas albums I have heard or bought in a long time. "Gloria" will be one of my favorite tracks from now on. This album is all I expected and more. If you love Christmas music then you need this album.
Moving.......2006-09-23
I have been a progressive Hard rock heavy metal singer for over 19 years. I am a lover of harmonies no matter what instrument is doing them. I first heard this album (specifically the song African Gloria) while browsing in Yankee Candle's "Black forest" room. I was moved by that song and I still am when I hear the clip now. I immediately ordered it. What I can say is that these kids are not doing any easy tasks...I am a singer and I know what it takes to get the harmonies and dynamics what they are. I give them 2 thumbs up and urge them to always continue. Childrens choirs are wonderful and in my opinion spark a Holy part of us. 5 stars!
This cd is simply PERFECT!.......2005-12-13
My husband and I opened this cd and played it for the first time tonight. It was like hearing a choir of angels. I am dead serious when I say that I have NEVER heard voices as beautiful as the Von Trapp children. I have just orded two more of their cd's, and I intend to order everything they record. DO NOT miss this one. It is an absolute gem!

Martina is a Wild Angel .......2006-03-22
She sings like an Angel but has never stuck to what people believed she should sing.
This is one of my favourite albums from Martina. She sounds beautiful singing these emotional songs.
This album has several of my favorite songs: "Safe in the arms of Love", "Phones are ringing all over town", and "Beyond the blue". These songs are all varying in topic, but they all sound wonderful with Martina singing them. Martina said at the time, that this album felt the most like her - I agree. It's full of songs about relationships - All the things we've never done, and You've Been Driving All The Time that reflect Martina's own marriage to John McBride, and songs such as Swingin' doors, and Phones are ringin' all over town, reflect Martina's feelings about strong women. All in all, this is a great album with lovely, beautiful songs.
One of great ones........2005-02-08
This is one of the greatest country albums of the 90's. I love so many songs on this album like Safe In The Arms of Love and Swinging Doors. I know it is one of her best. You will enjoy it.
Her third album.......2004-07-01
WILD ANGELS is not Martina McBride's best album, but there's some great songs. The title track became a smash hit for her, as did "Safe In The Arms of Love". The other singles, "Cry On The Shoulder of the Road" and "Swinging Doors" didn't do as well, but are just as good as the hits from the album. She does a good version of "Two More Bottles of Wine", and "A Great Disguise" is an impressive ballad. Not her strongest album, but it's pretty good.
WOW!!! What a voice!.......2003-09-13
I've listened to Martina McBride's "Wild Angels," over and over and over again. This album is great, and sticks true to its country roots. It includes both popular country and traditional country songs. "Phones are Ringin' All Over Town," "A Great Disguise," "Swingin' Doors," "Two More Bottles of Wine," "Cry on the Shoulder of the Road," "You've Been Driving All the Time" and "Beyond the Blue" are PURELY country tunes!!! Two very beautiful ballads are included in this collection: "Born to Give My Love to You" and "All the Things We've Never Done." "Wild Angels" is a great song and after hearing "Safe in the Arms of Love," I am in total awe of her breathtaking voice!!! You will not, I repeat you will not, be disappointed with this album. It's a country masterpiece!

One of the best 60's biker film soundtracks.......2004-07-10
Been searching for the elusive The Wild Angels music for years. I have both volumes on vinyl, but am happy to have finally found some of the songs on this disc. Would love to see both soundtrack volumes released as well!! C'mon Mr Allen!! Strike us with the arrows.
Blues theme.......2002-09-16
Word!! This is very possibly what got me into surf music, when I heard "blues theme" in the background of a ny public access show called Magnanimous. Then I saw the movie, what a suprise. One of the most memorable opening scenes ever. I've been humming it for years when ever I ride my bike.
Wow, this is great!.......1999-02-08
I have been searching for Davie Allan material for a long time. I'm glad I got to download some excerpts. It only makes me want to get the "real thing." The stuff sounds as good today as when I had it on a record (Remember those?) Can someone help me? Does Davie still perform with the Arrows? If so, I would really like to see him live. Is Davie in a chat room? What a "trip" it would be to talk to this legend in person!
This CD defines the late 1960's.......1998-09-23
The song "Blues Theme" was the first 45 I ever wore out the grooves on - at age 6! This song was responsible for programming my musical tapes from day one: the raw guitar licks, the sounds of a starting chopper, the manic beat. The rest of the CD can't quite compare to Blues Theme, but it still holds up today.

John Rutter: Music for Christmas.......2007-01-16
Excellent Christmas CD. I especially liked the "Angles Carol" track!
Would recommend this CD to one and all.
"Mr. Choral Christmas's Finest".......2002-11-21
Anyone who truly loves the choral and carol traditions of Christmas cannot miss Mr. Rutter's work. He is truly possessed of extraordinary talent and this fine recording puts it on proper display. The collection here houses the best of Mr. Rutter's original/edited works for the Christmas season, and one can sense the composer's affinity for the spirit of the holidays of which he has written so prolifically and well.
At the Top of My Christmas Playing List!.......2001-12-07
This is just an outstanding collection of choral, Christian selections. The majority are composed by Rutter, who it turns out was led into this field for which he is so well known and loved when in school, he was motivated by a fellow student who was composing a Christimas carol to do the same. Thanks be to God for that motivation!
Rutter's work simply in this humble reviewer has no other contemporary peer. He is reverent, fresh and excellent theology to boot! This collection has his best, including my favorites: "Shepherd's Pipe Carol, What Sweeter Music, The very best time of year, Angels' Carol."
To his compositions, added is Kirkpatrick's "Away In a Manger" and of course, Gruber's "Silent Night", both skillfully arranged and performed. Bonus selections of traditional pieces such as "I Wonder as I wonder."
The City of London Sinfonia conducted by Stephen Layton provides the orchestra background marvelously for Polyphany, the outstanding choir on this work.
You will be delighted to add this CD to your collection, and it will rise in most collections to near the top.
Well worth

Customer Reviews:
Legendary selections by a legendary voice.......2004-03-24
With special emphasis on the variety presented in this collection, this album has a broadness of scope that will appeal to anyone who appreciates the magic of the human voice.
McCormack was perhaps the most popular entertainer in the world during his career, comparable with the superstars of today, only richer in the currency of his day.
Though purists may have criticized his shift to the popular venue as opportunism, and perhaps desertion of his training in the classical tradtions, he was simply presenting what people wanted to hear. Whether he set a pattern of career management followed by modern entertainers or was simply happiest when the accolades flowed over him matters not. The talent and richness are his legacy to us.
His range and vocal dexterity are well illustrated and represented by this larger than usual collection, and anyone with a particular favorite tune in his rather loose genre will likely find it here.
After a journey through this collection, listeners may well gain another special melody or two for addition to their personal list of "best ever" songs and singers.
Although it may be considered a bit foolish, some will choose this album for only one or two tracks. Some call that trait wasteful, but when a jewel of performance is played again and again, the teardrop may fall once more, and the heart will thrill yet again.
This album will please many musical palates, even those who claim no special fondness for "Irish Tenors."

Album Description
In 1970, they were the hottest rock 'n' roll revival band in Britain, who almost single-handedly kept alive the glorious tradition of Elvis, Eddie & Gene. Here for the first time on CD are their classic B&C albums, plus rare singles & a chance to revisit their less famous but still rockin' Pye years. 48 tracks.
