5 out of 5 stars Masterfully Recorded Must Have CD.......2005-08-24

Everything Jean's review from 2002 is spot on, in fact,it beat Harry Pearsons sparkling review of it in The Absolute Sound mag. by 3 years. Worth buying, if just to show how good a cd can really sound.Super!

5 out of 5 stars Legendary !.......2002-04-12

MERCURY sound. At it's best, at it's fullest.

A super recording. Orchestral music like you've never heard before . . . in your home. Right, the better the stereo equipment the more you are likely to hear tons of details out of the microscopic hills and valleys of this glorious cd. However, a more modest hi-fi system will make it as well, at least to reveal the essential of the music. It all comes from the legendary "Golden Age" LP era. The album, issued by Mercury/Philips (a package of two discs), has GLORIOUS sound--as much as good as the vinyl LP. To be underlined, a very nice job at remastering those LEGENDARY archives, thanks to Wilma Cozart and the Mercury team. For orchestral music that one is a good reference cd (the sound is almost lifelike). Howard Hanson's music is delightful ; he's got a solid reputation as a composer and is a skillful conductor. One of my best picks in American music. The 'Merry Mount' is a wonderful work.*****

4 out of 5 stars A Classical Composer's Tool Kit.......2000-07-21

This 2-CD set provides a unique opportunity to hear the late American composer, Howard Hanson, talk about how he approached the orchestration of symphonic works. On disk 1, several of Hanson's works are performed (conducted by the composer), including the Merry Mount Suite, Mosaics, For the First Time and Concerto for Piano. On the second disk, Hanson de-constructs The Children's Dance from Merry Mount, explaining his intent as a composer and orchestrator, with each set of instruments highlighted by including them one at a time as their colors are blended from the composer's palette. This is an invaluable aid to aspiring composers, and also to any student of music who wants to understand orchestration in a step beyond Peter and the Wolf, and Britten's Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.

5 out of 5 stars Still Sounds Really Good.......2005-06-23

I purchased this CD years ago and liked it a lot right away and listened to it many times with full enjoyment. Over the years I picked up so many more CDs that I had forgotten about this gem until I recently took it in my car and went on a trip and listened to it many times over. Once again I have discovered what a great mix this is and it does not feel "tired" at all even several years after release. If you are into house/ tech house or have an open mind to dance music give this one a listen, I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars a journey through dance.......2001-10-03

The fading in of the tribal drums beats taking us through an experience of gradual trance of house/dance sounds.
Terry Francis has compiled a great piece of dance Dejaying, and it appeals to not just dance house music fans, but to anybody who has an open mind towards the way Dejaying is going.
I must admit I was not a great house music fan until a friend recommended that I give this album a listen, what a great mate thanks Gary Girrard.
Even though this album is now a few years old it has stood the test of time, other similar artists of interest : Ian Pooley, Cassius, other record labels: soma, global underground

4 out of 5 stars started to truely love this disk.......2001-08-06

I found a tower records that sells all the "listening station" music for hella cheap prices and I have been picking up lots of older compilations and "mix tape CD's" like many of the first Global Underground Series disks. So it actually quite rare for me to perk up and suddenly latch on to one of them as being "special", but I am sitting here at 6am in the morn after hours of music. I just listened to crystal methods vegas, before that radiohead's amniesiac, before that DZihan and Kamien's "Freaks and Icons. So I have a varied taste in music to say the least. Then suddenly here I am with your basic Tech house mix .. and it all makes sense. This album really is beautiful. At least at 6am in the morning when you can't focus on dancing or whatever. When the beats start to slowly sink into you head and rush over you like a good underworld track. Amazing .. I have a rule against giving "dj's and comilation albums 5 stars, cause I reserve the 5 stars only for the greatest "produced" albums of the year, but I might just have to come back and re-edit this rating if it gets any better.

and no I am not on drugs.

4 out of 5 stars tech-house: a welcome middle ground to explore.......2000-11-30

Francis, voted Best New DJ by Muzik magazine in 1997 and current Fabric resident DJ, started in the house scene before jumping to the forefront in the hot new "tech-house" sound. Like any good sub-genre, this style is exactly as it implies, fusing steady techno rhythms with the soul and accessibility of house. Listener newbies may find this splash of color to steel techno beats, and preference to rhythm over house banging, a welcome middle ground to explore.

Architecture flows seamlessly through pieces of dub and deep-end, and in typical techno form forgoes lyrics - replaced effectively with a stream of soundbites, dialogue, and radio transmissions. In fact, an hour of this may be too smooth for some listeners, with tracks selected best for the blend and not an emotional charge. Those looking for a tireless ride on rhythm, however, may have found their answer. Grade: B+

5 out of 5 stars The Godfather of TECH HOUSE.......2000-08-23

Being a Tech house afficionato, I found this CD to be uplifting, beautiful and moving while still keeping its rough "Tech" edge. Terry proves in this mix why he is an innovator and one of the world's best DJs.

5 out of 5 stars Love her!.......2006-10-19

Ashley Matte has a great sound. She is softy melodic and yet rocks with a style her own. Her writing is very good and melodies each better than the last. Fun in concert too! She gives a country twang to beautiful lyrics. Give this one a try because she's working on a new one. Listen at her Myspace.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2006-02-01

Ashley has such a beautiful, tranquil voice that can put you into an awesome mood! Her songs are uplifting and inspirational and are truly based on her life! This girl has an amazing talent for singing!!

5 out of 5 stars very catchy!!.......2005-04-26

What a great CD this is. I've just seen Ashley a couple times as she was the opening act for Dishwalla on a couple of recent Southern California dates. I had never heard of her prior to these shows, but was really impressed at how talented she was. Live, she played solo acoustic sets and was just incredible. However, as incredible as she was live, her CD is even better. I happened to pick up a copy at one of the shows and boy am I glad I did. It's very fluid all the way through with a relaxed yet upbeat sound. Her guitar playing is very smooth and her voice is soothing and soulful. The song writing on this CD is excellent. You'll find yourself singing along and wanting to hear more. A great CD for work, the car or just kicking back.

5 out of 5 stars Prado Posse.......2005-03-29

I have seen Ashley play live many, many times and I am here to tell you that she is a talented musician with a lot of energy. I have recommended her to everyone I know (including men) and no one is disappointed. She's got an old Southern soul behind her powerful words and voice. The CD is AMAZING!

5 out of 5 stars Rising Star!.......2005-03-12

It will be fun to say "I knew her when. . . " This young lady has a God-given talent for both singing, and song-writing. She is great live too. Can't wait for her next record!

        Album Description

On this CD, Pandit Vidyadhar Vyas performs ragas Yaman and Nand. Pandit Vyas' treatment of these ancient musical forms evokes the artistic and spiritual beauty of a time long forgotten. He begins Rag Yaman with a soul-stirring "alap" section in which he carefully introduces the raga, then performs a composition in Teen Tal, a rhythm cycle of 16 beats. In Rag Nand, a hauntingly beautiful raga, he begins a composition in "Jhaptala", a rhythm cycle of 10 beats after a short alap. The perfection and serenity of his singing must be heard and experienced; especially when one considers the enormous complexity of the melodic and rhythmic structure within which he creates his realm.
