5 out of 5 stars Interstellar travel in your headphones........2007-05-31

Well, Stargate SG.1 has finally ended after 10 seasons, and this soundtrack CD covers only the first two. I think there's room for a new CD or two, and hopefully the Stargate SG.1 people will get around to creating one.

Anyway, I've listened to this CD once so far and I was very impressed. The music really is enjoyable on its own, and I found myself listening to the Cold Lazerus music twice before I continued throught the rest of the CD.

Finally, don't think there isn't much music on this CD because of the small nunber of tracks. Many of these tracks are six to ten minutes long.

5 out of 5 stars Stargate Music Album.......2007-05-12

Great CD throughout. It's a shame the show is being cancelled after 10 years but this music helps to keep the memory on.

3 out of 5 stars Not as good as the 1st Music release.......2004-10-24

The best of Stargate SG-1 is infact a 9 track compilation of the 1st 2 seasons of the TV show. It's really not the best of Stargate. I rather enjoyed the 1st release namely called Music of Stargate SG-1 and the actual movie music-score. However I still enjoyed the music from several episodes of the 2nd season, most notable being the music suite of Hathor.

A fan of the TV show should be pleasantly surprised by the suites in this CD. It won't disapoint.

5 out of 5 stars one for the fans.......2004-05-07

This CD is really one for the fans. If you've not watched Stargate SG-1 before, then it will be very limited in its' appeal.
I personally enjoyed the CD, as I could relate the music back to the particular episodes in which they appeared. Some of the tracks are sweet and melodic, others are more ominious, so it doesn't come up short on variety.
The music sounds, for the most part, rather sythesised (which is why, if you are used to sprawling epic soundtracks from mainstram movies, I generally don't recommend this if you have never watched the show). Tracks are usually a mixture of synthesised sounds combined with more organic notes from traditional instruments, creating a very "sci fi" sound.
This is a great CD to work and study to as it provides great background music without being too intrusive.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet.......2004-02-23

This is a great CD. Just listing to it makes me feel like I'm watching the show.

4 out of 5 stars This Band Swings!.......2000-09-07

Just bought this CD & I must say CC&LPAM are a really good band! Their mix of boogie/woogie & western swing is very catchy & to think many of these cuts were recorded years ago. Check out their version of Smoke, Smoke, Smoke, which IMHO is superior to Asleep at the Wheels. Ray Benson's Hot Rod Lincoln version is almost a note by note copy of Bill Kirchen's with CC&LPAM. For the price this CD is a good deal.

4 out of 5 stars Nice Little Collection.......2000-04-12

Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen always put out fun albums, and this collection will do nicely if you just want all the hits. I never had the pleasure of seeing them perform live but have heard they put on a great show. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive Collection of Artists!!!.......2002-03-01

BET did us a favor and started a show called,"Planet Groove". And while the show received the axe in favor of something else better, at least these songs survived. These songs are by newcomers and old-timers. Janet (yes, that Janet. Miss Jackson because she's nasty) starts it off with her soft, "I Get Lonely." Mariah suffers from a "Breakdown" (no pun intended) with the help sometime R-N-B singer/rapper thugs, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony. Mya proclaims her womanhood in, "It's All About Me", with former Dru Hill frontman, Sisqo. A nice catchy tune, without any male-bashing. Brian McKnight slows it down a bit with "Anytime", a perfect song about reminiscing on a past someone/relationship. Jon B adds his "They Don't Know" to the already impressive list of songs. Chico (good thing he dropped "DeBarge" from his moniker) returns with soulful crooner, Joe, on the "No Guarantee" (remix). Honestly, folks, I like this one better than the original. Next sings the praises of a woman "who has that bomb lovemaking. She also has a "...sundress on, feet pedicured with no corns..." in "Butta Love." (Sounds like someone has a foot fetish to me. But hey, whatever floats your boat.) Ms. Badu comes back and brings and ill-fated unwanted visitor, "Tyrone." In the opening lines, you can feel her animosity. "I'm getting tired of your ...!" {Gee, if breaking up was just that easy!} That was an original, that came (surprise!) impromptu but was also featured on her "Live!" album as well as a remix that was even longer. Keith Sweat, Johnny Gill and Gerald Levert formed the ill-fated group, LSG. But before they split and went on their separate ways, they created the monster hit, "My Body". Lyrics like..."want to feel your precious treasure wrapped around me oh-so-tightly. In, out and want to hear you shout...", you'll see why women were losing their minds all over the world!!! R. Kelly's protege, Sparkle, reminds that we should "Be Careful." Montell Jordan gets down and dirty with the help of Master "Make'em Say Unggghhhh" P. and his brother, Silk the Shocker on "Let's Ride," where he sings about a woman being "5'5, 146 and wearing nothing but a Gstring. Chocolate lips and sexy thighs..." I think you get the picture! SWV sings about "The Rain", a slow tune about someone's love coming down like rain. Boyz II Men give praises to their mommas on "A Song for Mama", a tune that was first featured on the Soul Food Sdtrk. I think I liked it better on that sdtrk than I do here. There is entirely too much raunchiness going on to be singing to Mama. Xscape returns to their roots, as well as their churchy-sound, on "The Arms Of The One Who Loves You," a slow tune about if things just don't work out, I can kiss away your boo-boo's and make it better! This entire album is worth the money that I spent and then some. Go get this one!

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorite CD's.......1999-11-25

I love this CD especially the last song on it. Definately a good buy

5 out of 5 stars This is the most bomb CD out!.......1999-04-16

This CD is so bomb. It has every song that I like. This saves me money because I like to go and buy my favorite songs, but the I would have to buy alot of different CD's for one song each. This is the most bomb idea out, all the best songs out in one CD. My personal favorite(aside from all the other ones on the CD) is Mariah Carey in "Breakdown". That is truely the best. I love this CD and I love Planet groove. Keep doing ya' thang Rachel!

5 out of 5 stars This CD is a must buy!.......1999-04-12

This CD has the best songs! It is great to have a CD I can listen to all the time. I'm so happy they put Janet on this CD. Buy this CD right now.

4 out of 5 stars awesome band, o.k. mix c.d........2007-05-16

i absolutely love the band, but i think they could have picked a better selection. i guess they have too many good songs for one disc. maybe it should have been a double c.d, but its not at all bad. if you have all the others then theres no point in getting it, but for a first time listener you should definately get it!!

1 out of 5 stars Broke and Black Out - Combined.......2007-02-16

I would only say buy this album if you have nothing from Hed PE. Otherwise just buy the "Broke" album and the "Black Out" album, most of these songs are off those two CD's!

Happy Selecting!

5 out of 5 stars B Davis Old No. 7 Brand.......2006-07-18

What kind of review is this B Davis? Do you know anything about record labels and the industry? I guess not. Hed Pe wasnt even with this label when it was released. Hed left this label on bad terms and they were suppose to do another album on this label. Why do you think this ablum was released on the same day as their new album? The label wanted to get under their skin. A contract is a concract to record labels. They can care less about the bands. They just make sure that the bands make them money. Did I buy this album, hell no!!! Hed had nothing to do with it. Your right that this album is stupid and looks bad. I'm just saying you should know the facts before you criticize this great band. Peace Out

2 out of 5 stars Um, did I miss something?!?.......2006-07-13

I don't get it ... (hed) pe seems to have built their career on not caring what anyone thinks and saying f*** you to the establishment ... and then they release a "Best of" disc?!?! What?

The only reason why I gave it 2 stars is because the tunes are great. The concept of a "Best of" disc kills it, though.

I've been a fan of (hed) pe since their first disc and have seen them a few times in clubs and I just don't get this. One other reviewer said something about this feeling like the record label milking the band ... totally agree. And if thst's the case, why would the band let the label do that?

There seems to be fewer and fewer bands out there that truly do whatever they want without regard to what anyone else thinks and (hed)pe used to be one of them.

**cough** sell out **cough**

4 out of 5 stars Where did this come from?.......2006-07-08

Good question, I have no idea... most "Greatest Hits" come from bands anyone could name... (Hed) doesn't fall in there. The album is "alright" a must have for (Hed) fans, but most of us had these songs from the other albums...nothing was new. In general it helps you not have to change cd's... if you don't know them it is a great way to get a taste without having to buy all the cd's!

4 out of 5 stars Boogie ON.......2007-03-09

I don't know what's with that other guy. Has he never heard recordings from the sixties before?! So the recording quality is not state of the art. Are we here to boogie or are we here to whine? Boo Hoo, Sister Sue. We're here to BOOGIE! Where else can you get texas roadhouse boogie? the Texas Jewboys? Try to find one of their albums, why don't you. I saw these guys live a couple of years ago. The first set was killer. So what if the band was sloppy drunk by the second set. They were supposed to be.

1 out of 5 stars Get a recording studio!.......2006-08-21

I'm not sure what's up with these recordings. I've had three of them now, two from amazon and one from another seller. Why don't these guys do decent sound recordings? They sound like someone went into a bar on friday night and turned on a tape recorder. They are terrible! I own over 1500 cd's and this is by a long shot the worst recording quality i've ever heard. The recordings are tinny and distorted, with tons of midrange, and even some distortion! Whoever made these recordings needs to get an ear! The songs themselves are good if you like Commander Cody. The music is what you would expect from this band.

5 out of 5 stars A must.......2007-05-08

If you are a guano apes fan, then you will love this album.

5 out of 5 stars Go Ape.......2006-03-30

I could easily be writing this review about any of the band's albums since this IS a greatest hits collection. Of the band's three albums of original material here's the breakdown: Walking on A Thin Line is by far their strongest and best material. The second disc, Don't Give Me Names is also an exceptionally strong album that you can play from start to finish. Only their first disc, Proud Like A God, has some relative clunkers on it. That disc does have two of their most famous tracks (Lords of the Boards and Open Your Eyes...which was a minor radio success in the U.S. in 1997). Forgive the uneveness of the first disc due to youthful experimentation and an attempt at four very different musical personalities trying to make something they could all agree on. This is an underappreciated and definitely overlooked band in America. Only their first disc is available via a U.S. distribution company. Don't Give Me Name was yanked by RCA in America on the eve of the distribution citing the "don't hear a single" nonsense. Let's not forget that the band, under contract with BMG in the rest of the world, had something like four or five hits of that album in Europe and won Mtv Europe awards etc. So, that's really a bunch of BS. This band was lost in the shuffle of the big companies like RCA having to restructure and clean administrative house. This wasn't "the band" to new execs who had no relationship with them and they were told to try again with the next album. That would be the third and best CD which was hugely successful once again in Germany and certain European markets. But still no release here. How do I know all this? Well, I was a journalist working for a major rock magazine at the time Don't Give Me Names came out and am a big supporter of the band. I have no doubt that if even half the budget being spent on promoting Lacuna Coil (whom I also like, though a very different band) or the crap like Nightwish and Evanescence, Guano Apes would definitely had a solid market over here with several radio hits. They did sell 150,000 units of the first disc here with almost zero press and publicity budget. That means with a little effort, the band could have worked here. I was trying to push this band in that female void after No Doubt basically broke up. The record companies wouldn't hear of it...then suddenly Evanescence breaks and it's a whole different story. Too bad the band was well on its way to breaking up at that point. I flew over to see their farewell tour in Germany in Feb. 2005. Absolutely great people with still more to say as a band musically, but the relationships between Sandra and the band are probably not mendable at this time. Who's to say what could happen if Sandra's new CD (due out later this year 2006) flops, but honestly, I am not expecting it to. She told me personally her album will be a rock album. It will be interesting to see what her vision is. She truly is a dynamic performer with the best female ROCK voice I've ever heard. She is hard to define as she candle most any style, but when she let's it go, she's ferocious! I would love to hear some new guitar music from Henning (guitarist), but nothing is on the horizon seriously at this time.
If you're a fan of early Incubus, Red Hot Chili Peppers with some 80's type melodies infused with seriously rocking riffs spread over with serious female vocals, this is the band for you. They are fun and talented, somewhat twisted and quirky. Think of a much more fun and heavier No Doubt. I have never met anyone I've played them for that said they didn't like them, and that's pretty impressive. Too bad the U.S. record companies dropped the ball on this one. And shame on BMG too for forcing the band to find U.S. distribution deals outside of BMG rather than partnering with Sony (remember the merger a few years back) at the time of the third album to try again in the States with this band...then again...you've got to want it too. A starcrossed band with plenty to still offer. Start with this one and work your way back. Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars Top of their Genre, No Question. This one is where to start.......2005-05-30

I have nine Guano Apes CD's. This collection certainly has the cream of the crop. I do wish there were just three tunes that would have appeared on this "Best Of" collection, "Heaven", "Storm" & "Sugar Skin". I have an unusually wide spectrum of musical interest. I LOVE "Quality" wherever it may be found. My collection includes, Tapping The Vein, Die Happy & Lacuna Coil. I even like The Lords Of Acid once in awhile. But as of late, Whenever I feel the need for un-leashed raw female power in expression, I reach for this single CD, or better put "CD of Singles". This one Frosts My Cake.
