awesome alternative album.......2007-01-31
COOL! If you prefer sushi to burgers, or the smooth sounds of synthesizer over guitar rock anthems (ie. Stryper) buy this!!
Almost like Ibiza sunset but better.......2007-01-09
If you are looking for good christian music with a hint of electronic sounds, this is it! I love this CD I share it with all my friends. It is happy music to me. I hope more music like this for chrisitian listenrs are in the making. A must have in your collection if you enjoy dancey music. Daivd Crowder, what a blessed musician.
Well Done Downtempo Worshop - Nice Job, Crowder!.......2006-10-26
I love DCB, have Illuminate, Can You Hear Us and two Passion albums. As someone who also appreciates downtempo (think Moby, BBC Blue Room, or new wave turning 40), I thought this was fresh, new and still worship-full. I keep this on while working, cleaning the house, driving. Even my Third Day loving wife thinks its great. And the kids...well, they keep coming over to the stereo and turning up. At work, I leant it to our spike-haired, retro-black-glasses-wearing graphic designer and he loved it. Worship music to him had always been 'boring.' This CD is certainly not.
Great worship.......2005-10-28
Once again David Crowder shows his versatility in making good Christian music. With echoes of The Postal Service in the first song, Sunsets and Sushi immerses you in techno-worship. This album may not be for everybody (and no album is!) but it definitely leads me to a place of praise everytime I listen to it. It is a great remix of some of Crowders best songs. The remix's of Intoxicating and Deliver Me, provide a needed thematic thrust to the songs that make them much deeper and more moving.
That being said, some people don't like the electronic sound of the album. I think it is a great album that shows Crowder's versatility.
DCB bounces one off the plate.......2005-10-27
As much as I hate to say this, I really do not care for this album. It contains remixes of several DCB classics, and I think that all of them fall well short of the originals. In general I am a big DCB fan. I think the band is very creative and has done a wonderful job of bringing their unique sound to the modern Christian music scene. But I think this album was a mistake.
I have heard great things about their latest release, so I am hoping for the best. I do not recommend buying this DCB album. Can You Hear Us and Illuminate are much better than this one. I did not realize that it contains only remixes when I bought it. Now I am disappointed that I made that mistake. Better luck next time.

Product Description
Hailing from Sioux Falls, SD, Nick Thomas heads up his acoustic outfit, The Spill Canvas, while constructing anthems of brutally honest youthful angst. At the age of 15, after paying his dues in numerous local punk rock groups, Nick grabbed his acoustic and began to dive into a world completely different from his previous musical endeavors. He began to play assorted local venues simply under his name, Nick Thomas. But after a few successful shows, there was an increasing interest from other local musicians to join Nick on his solo journey. In turn, he tagged an actual band name so that his guest musicians wouldnt feel uncomfortable playing under his name. The project was called The Spill Canvas. ............................SONGLIST......1/aim snap fall 2/caterpillars 3/the tide 4/your evil soul 5/bracelets 6/the night will go as follows 7/all hail the heartbreaker 8/so much 9/3685 10/ black dress 11/under the covers 12/ sunsets and car crashes
Customer Reviews:
Unexpected acoustics, but still an impressive start.......2007-04-07
When I first bought Sunsets And Car Crashes, I had very little idea of what I was getting myself into. I had purchased "All Hail The Heartbreaker" from iTunes, and loved it. I had done a little more digging to find more information about the band's overall sound, and I decided it was time to check out the rest of the songs. What I had expected were the great young vocals I had heard, along with string-laden guitars and pained lyrics, but not nearly the acoustic involvement. What I got was, of course, a far cry from my expectations--but better.
I've been a fan of the emo genre for quite a few years now, having grown up listening to New Found Glory and Dashboard Confessional. I hadn't, however, experienced lyrics this hard-hitting, especially in songs about desperation and broken relationships, though the aforementioned bands have certainly treaded that ground time and time again. "Consider this song a testament of my devotion to your saccharine scent / And to be completely honest, you're not like all the rest," the album's main man, Nick Thomas, sobs to the girl of his dreams in "The Night Will Go On As Follows", while in the CD's title track he whispers "In case you were wondering, you are like a hurricane to me / Your violence is beautiful and your center sweet" in a croon reminiscent of Brand New's Jesse Lacey.
But it's not always such single-minded fidelity he focuses on. "Your Evil Soul" and "3685" slope even further downhill into the realm of suffering and dishonesty, while "The Tide" is a poignant acoustic piece telling the tale of three misguided children who never found compassion in their brief lives. It is definitely one of the best songs on the album, and though released as a single, didn't get nearly the acclaim it deserves.
In addition to lyrical and vocal ability, Thomas' guitar and bass playing ranges from a heavy thunder ("Caterpillars") to soft and pure acoustics ("Under the Covers" and "Aim Snap Fall", to name a few). It's hard to believe he was only fifteen when he wrote most of these songs, for they are both lyrically and musically far more adult. Although the album does have some weak points, namely the overkill of "Black Dresses" and a few clichéd lyrics thrown in with the original during "So Much", Sunsets And Car Crashes is one strong debut CD, and that's really all you can ask for.
Love it!.......2007-01-21
This CD is great! I wrote a review for one fell swoop and like I said on that one The Spill Canvas are fabulous! Their lyrics are emotional and relatable. The standout songs in my opinion are the tide, all hail the heartbreaker and black dresses. These songs are amazing. All the tracks are good, there isn't one that I dislike. I recommend sunsets and car crashes and one fell swoop to anyone who is interested!
Great debut album!.......2006-03-16
I purchased the Spill Canvas' most recent album right away when I preview listened to it at a Hot Topic clothing store. I was estatic when I heard that they had a CD beofore that and bought it right away from amazon.com I couldn't have been happier.
Track 3, the tide, is flawless. The best song of theirs to date and is worth buying the album just for this song. It is brilliantly emotional. The chorus has the best lyrics to a song I've heard in a time. Track 11 is another great one!
If you liked thier second CD, do yourself a favor and pick up The Spill Canvas' first album, it's mainly accoustic but that's what makes it soo f'n great.
one of my favorites.......2005-12-10
i first heard "all hail the heart breaker," and i had to find out who the band was. The spill canvas differs from the normal, often negatively portrayed, "emo scene" because of the sincerity of the lyrics and the talented guitar playing. While the cd can easily become a favorite of the dashboard and starting line crowd, it also will appeal to people who try to distance themselves from those bands. the tide, sunsets and carcrashes, and all hail the heartbreaker stand out. i'd also suggest buying this CD before the most recent release (one fell swoop); i wasn't as impressed with the new songs, even after multiple listens.
bubbling from the lips that u used to love to kiss.......2005-10-10
i bought this CD for the song "sunsets and car crashes" and it took me FOREVER to finally get it and everyone told me that it was such an awesome CD so i couldnt wait to get it and now i see what everyone was talking about
1. Aim Snap Fall 4/5: its a really slow song but the lyrics are really pretty and it sets the mood for the rest of the CD
2. Caterpillars 4/5: i love the opening guitar to this, and the music is great, and the flow is beautiful. The lyrics are great too and the vocals are pretty
3. The Tide 5/5: some of the best lyrics on the CD, def one of the best songs. I love the guitar thru out the song. The vocals are really nice but the message that in this song is amazing! one of my favourite songs ever. Def depicts the hardships of growing up, and at a time in my life where i look back on all the memories that are gone, i can def relate to the longing of this song "heavens not a place that u go when u die/its that moment in life when u actually feel alive/so live for the moment and take this adivce/live by every word
4. Your Evil Soul 4/5: i love the lyrics in this song! the vocals are not good but the lyrics save this song so much! but the way his voice goes with the song, its interesting and haunting and creepy.
5. Bracelets 3.5/5: eh, i dont like the way this starts off..it goes to quick. I like the lyrics, and im glad when it finally slows down. Eh, its medocore at best, but the lyrics are good.
6. The Night Will Go As Follows 4.5/5: love the lyrics to this, and the vocals are great!! def makes up for "bracelets". One of the better songs on this CD.
7. All Hail the HeartBreaker 5/5:LOVE the lyrics! love the guitar, love the vocals! One of the best on the CD. The message is one that anyone can easily relate to and thats why this is such a successful song! i adore it!!
8. To Much 4/5: Not bad. A little repetitive, but some of the lyrics are nice such as "i love the way the galaxy starts to melt/as we become one [X5]/how does it feel"
9. 3685 4/5: i really like the opening, and this song reminds me SO much of The Starting Line: Make Yourself At Home EP. the lyrics are very nice. I like the girls voice in this, its interesting and it just fits.
10. Black Dresses 4/5: i love the more gothy lyrics to this, a lot like "your evil soul". His voice is errie in this song and the lyrics are just awesome!
11. Under The Covers 3/5: eh, like "bracelets" i dont really care for this song, but the lyrics are nice and the gutiar is extremely nice also. I could go either on this, but there are some parts to this song that shine
12. Sunsets and Carcrashed 6/5: I ADORE the opening! the rain sound has ALWAYS been a favorite sound of mine, and the lyrics are AMAZING! the guitar and music is just awesome! this is one of my favorite songs, not only on the CD, but in general. This is a gorgeous song! Makes the CD!
Spill Canvas sounds A LOT like Starting Line and im not complaining becuase i love them also, but this CD just shines in my eyes. Some people say that there isnt any 1 song that shines on this CD and i STRONGLY disagree. "The Tide", "Your Evil Soul", "The Night Will Go As Follows", "All Hail the Heartbreaker", "Black Dresses", and "Sunsets and Car Crashes" are AMAZING songs and the rest are not easily forgettable! This is an amazing emo CD!

Vulture Street just isn't complete without it..........2004-04-05
"Sunsets" is one of the standout tracks on "Vulture Street", so it's no surprise that it was lifted as a single. Though the track itself is brilliant, I actually prefer the acoustic version that can be found as one of the b-sides to this single.
Other than that, there are 2 great songs on this single - "Rita" is a really interesting acoustic sing-a-long - though I prefer the version found on the DVD single - but "Not The Only One" is a track with all the Powderfinger trademarks that could have easily been it's own single. I have no idea how this missed the "Vulture Street" cut, but by god it's good.
This single's not quite as good as "Love Your Way", but the combination of "Sunsets" and "Not The Only One" makes it, regardless, one of the best singles I've ever heard. Enjoy.

Warm Analog Synthesizer Sounds!.......2005-02-16
Right now, this appears to be out of print, being originally released on the electronic "New Age" music label I C (Innovative Communications) Records sometime around 1979.
Well, it sure does sound like a pretty (as opposed to "difficult", "Arty" or "Experimental")recording entirely comprised of some very pretty sounding analog synthesizers.
Banfi (as far as I can tell) only released this one recording-too bad for it sure equals much of the stuff out there from the time. One could certainly call it "pretty", but it is not a romantic type of album or anything like what Yanni or those types would soon be offering us under the heading of New Age music.
Personally I can't get enough of that rich 70's analog synthesizer sound. Although this would never be mistaken for a Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream album, I think at least some of the fans of Tangerine Dreams works (like perhaps "Rubycon") would find some stuff here they would like.
It seems like the original recording was released around 1979-the pre-CD era. The last 3 tracks appear to have been added for the CD issue of the original album around 1988 although nowhere on the CD booklet are any recording dates listed.
I wish I could say those newer, more digital-sounding tracks add to the album, but they distract from it a great deal. Not only have all the instrumental sounds changed from warm analog to very cold , hollow early digital sounds, but the music itself on these last 3 tracks seems to have taken a shift towards a more popular, far less original, direction.
However, don't let that distract you from the CD's first 5 tracks, you would be missing something indeed if you are a fan of those 1970's synthesizers.

ARCHIE AT THE TOP OF HIS FORM..........2001-04-26
This is without a doubt one of the finest CDs in my collection, and has been one of my favorites for many years. Archie Fisher's voice is pure magic -- and the songs he writes (or, in some cases, chooses) match it perfectly. The melodies are haunting and beautiful, but what really stands out for me in these selections is the pure quality of the words -- this is poetry at its finest. There's not a single weak track among these here, but the one that gets deep into my soul every time I hear it is 'The presence' -- a song could not possibly be more perfectly written.
Archie's releases are few and far between over the last few years -- this was recorded back in the 80s, and it, I believe, is actually his latest recording. Rumor has it he's been working on a new one for a year or two -- let's hope it proves to be true. Many thanks to Red House for making this fine album more readily available to stateside music fans.
Scotland's finest singer songwriter at his best.......1999-08-25
A magical recording by the finest voice in Scottish folk music - deep and rich as his country's glens and lochs. Archie's lovely relaxed guitar picking is beautifully accompanied by a few other instruments and he casts a spell over the listener with a series of gentle ballads about characters and places he knows and loves. "Ashfields and Brine", "Shipyard Apprentice", "Cuillins of Home" and "Merry England" display his love of place, "Gunsmoke and Whiskey" and "Bill Hosie" are marvellous evocations of interesting characters. However his "love" songs are totally stunning - "The Prescence" is one of the most affecting pieces of music imaginable - achingly poetic story of an ageing spinster's regrets and proud faith. Another highlight is his recitation "The Black Horse" - brilliant - no effects, no music, just pure voice and perfect delivery. Haunting! Do yourself a favour - buy this album.
A terrific poet and singer.......1998-07-14
This man is an undiscovered treasure. His lyrics are pure poetry. And his music is quite good. I've also heard others sing his songs and its always impressive. This is an album worth having!
A folk singer with a rich voice and wonderful stories!.......1998-05-27
I first heard Archie in concert back in the mid 80's when he was touring with Garnet Rodgers, another excellent folksinger. This album is a re-release on CD of an earlier LP. Archie has a wonderfull voice: rich, deep, and I believe a Scottish accent. The songs here are all full of stories about people and places in Archie's life. All of the songs are well written (by Archie - some in collaboration) and delivered. One of my favorites is the song "Shipyard Apprentice" about a man growing up by a shipyard on the Clyde River in Scotland. I love the phrase from this song that "it was tears that made the Clyde." "Silver Coin" is a beautiful love song about a woman who "rings like a silver coin thrown down on stone." "Bill Hosie" is a tragic song about a man that built a plane and what happened to him. "Gunsmoke & Wiskey" is about a special friendship of Archie's. I haven't listened to these songs in many years, probably 8, yet remembering this album brings their melodies back to me today very strong.

Excellent Relaxing Trance.......2003-11-20
I would recommend this cd to anyone who enjoys relaxing world/trance music with an asian flair. It was the perfect background music for dinner with friends.
The first five or so haunting tracks are perfect...a few of the later ones don't seem to fit in as well but aren't bad. Later tracks lose the exotic quality for a more contemporary (one reggae) sound that doesn't quite fit the Thailand theme.
I recommend this to anyone who loves soft, lush, international trance sounds.
