4 out of 5 stars Tyrese- Alter Ego.......2007-06-20

I really dont know why so many people ragged on this album. There is alot to be said about it thats for sure. But in my opinion i think it was almost as good as 2000 Watts. I mean the R&B album on Alter Ego alone could win a grammy. Even though it only lasts ten tracks. But it is still his best R&B music to date, but thats only if you grade the R&B disc by itself. Because even though i do think that Tyrese can flow with his rapping game, i dont think he did this album right. I think it would have been smarter to do a whole R&B album with a few rap tracks scattered in the mix. Cause like i said, his R&B songs this time around are flawless. But with the Rap disc, i believe he should have tried to stick with tracks similar to the Kanye West type of beat on "Roses", which could have easily been a Kanye track. I mean "Roses" is a really good rap track, along with the smooth melodic Game assisted "Ghetto Dayz" which will be that summer jam being blasted out of car windows. On "Ghetto Dayz" you can really tell that Black Ty is speaking from expieriences. You can really feel his flow on that track and he did a good job with the writing. And Game really killed that track to. But those are really the only two standouts on the rap disc. And the thing about the rap disc is i think he went a bit far with the whole "Black Ty" thing. I mean, Tyrese is one of my favorite artists of all time, but i think that the whole Black Ty thing was overboard just a little bit. The man can flow, i wont deny that, but just try to not be so gangsta with it next time around, and give us more R&B. Speaking of R&B though, that disc is flawless. The single "One" could possibly be his best single ever, its one of those songs that just makes you wanna sing. And then there is the heart wrenching "Come Back To Me Shawty" which he really lets his vocals ring on this track which is a good thing. And then there is the Johnta' Austin written "Gotta Get You" which is that story of man putting everything into a relationship but she still manages to push him away, which everyone can relate to in some way. And then there is the R.Kelly produced "Hurry Up" which is one of the many baby making tracks on this disc, and it has that R.Kelly signature raindrop beat. I mean like i said the R&B disc is Tyreses best work to date, and you can play the disc all the way through. Overall the album as a whole is good, but if he would have choosen a few other rap tracks instead of the hardcore gangsta one and made some more mellow beats that would have been good, or if he would have made a whole R&B album with some rap tracks mixed in that would haven been cool to. Buy it if not for the rap, you have to get the R&B disc because it is truly flawless. BUY IT!

5 out of 5 stars Good stuff.......2007-05-09

I really liked disc one. It's worth the price alone and I wish he had more than 10 tracks on it. I agree his rapping isn't great, but it's not horrible either. Disk 1 alone is one of the best R&B on a single album i've heard in a while. Keep it up Tyrese. Black Ty can make a few cameos in the future but no full albums!

4 out of 5 stars 'Ghetto Love'.......2007-04-27

I love tyrese's cd alter ego. the 1st cd (the slow jams) is all that. I just dont understand the negative feedback. i bought this cd in feb. and havent taken it out of the cd player in my truck yet. I listen to it everyday. Tyrese is 'ghetto' as hell but it works for him and he really puts it down on these songs. He has a beautiful voice. Now i havent listened to the rap cd yet but i never saw tyrese as a rapper anyway and to be honest i dont care to listen to it. A few of the songs could be a little bit better but im a 'die hard' lover of his voice so it does it for me. I rate this cd a 4, for the first cd alone.

2 out of 5 stars Miracle Ear customers have got it good right now.......2007-04-23

My brother told me that Tyrese had a new album long before I knew about it. He went on to tell me that the album is called Alter Ego and that it's a double-disc: the first disc is Tyrese singing normally, while the second disc is him RAPPING as his alter-ego, Black-Ty. THEN my brother told me that Black-Ty's rapping is so bad that he'd rather listen to Kevin Federline. If that sounds harsh, it's actually pretty accurate.

But the sad thing is, the singing disc really isn't all that. It's a slim ten tracks, but there still really are no standouts. It's the same story with Tyrese: he's got one hell of a voice, but his lyrics are just terrible (Ruben Studdard would later follow in his footsteps, but I digress). I mean, "One" and the Lil Jon-assisted "Turn Ya Out" are okay, but they're no classics. "Better to Know" is a ridiculous song about having a lady as a F buddy rather than a girlfriend, and "Signs of Love Makin' Part 2" isn't much more interesting than its predecessor. Finally, "Hurry Up" doesn't rank as one of R. Kelly's best compositions.

As far as Black-Ty's disc, well, there are so many weak bars here that XXL could publish an entire Step Your Rap Game Up ISSUE with them (for example: "I ain't changed; I just changed my name and added a hyphen" from "What It Is"). I mean, honestly; one listen to Tyrese's rap during the third verse of "Nobody Else" told me point blank that he was clearly not a rapper, and this disc further proves that. Songs are wack enough when he's by himself, as evidenced by the tepid "Broke A** N's", but matters get even worse when guest stars come aboard. On "Get It In", a good Scott Storch beat is wasted by below-average rapping by both Ty and Method Man. And "U Scared" (with David Banner and Lil' Scrappy) has all sorts of problems. First, it has the non-threatening chorus: "You scared/You scared/You scared, MF/You scared". Then, Banner appears to be having trouble rapping over his own beat, and the beat itself sounds like a low-key version of Dr. Dre's beat from Eve's "Let Me Blow Ya Mind".

It gets worse from there. For some strange reason, Kurupt (who hasn't been dope since "Doggy Dogg World") shows up on four tracks, and he sounds like he doesn't even want this. "Fly Away" is a dumb track that showcases Ty and Kurupt giving encouraging words about their respective rap careers over a conference call. And "Get Low" is downright disgusting, but that's probably because the song also features Too $hort (as well as Kurupt and Snoop Dogg). Snoop and Kurupt also appear on "Roll the Dice", which sounds like a throwaway 213 song.

I don't know if there's really anything else to say about Tyrese, other than he STILL needs to get some serious writers. Rap ain't looking too bright for him, and although he's a good actor, no one ever sees the movies he's in. But he'd better get his mind right soon because Alter Ego isn't worth picking up.

when i heard "how you gonna act like that" and "signs of love making" i really thought tyrese was a great singer and really knew how to put it down in the R&B level, also i had never heard of him before these songs besides "baby boy" which was alright. but this album is terrible. the first CD may be alright, songs such as "one" and "lights on" are really the only decent songs, if you could even use the word decent. he says 'shawty' way too much, and his 2nd disk which is all rap, is absolutely terrible, he shouldn't rap at all. if you liked "pullin me back" by chingy and have heard "one" already, don't think that this CD will make you like tyrese more, because it's a terrible CD.

3 out of 5 stars Tyrese- Tyrese.......2007-06-20

Heres my only problem with this album it all sounds the same. I mean in general its a good sound cause tyrese definetly has a good voice. But you start to notice after like the first five-six tracks it all sounds the same and it starts to get very boring. I mean i cant deny the uncontrolably sexy "Sweet Lady", and the mezmerizing "Lately", and on occasion "Nobody Else" sounds good but other than those three tracks, there is very few good songs. But i cant take away from Ty cause he has a very good voice, and no one can deny that. But i can say this album is just average, and he really does nothin truely speacial with his first outing. I think in the future if he works with better producers, and some better writers, he could definetly bennefit. And i think he could make some unstoppable music, that everyone could enjoy. But thats not the role this album plays, this album plays his "Rookie Mistake". Like i said its not horrible, but it could have been a whole lot better. But not that bad for a debut album. Next one will be better, i am putting my money on Tyrese in the future because he got the vocals, just needs to tighten up the rest of his game and he will be good to go.

Tyrese first burst onto the scene doing that Coca Cola commerical and then he released his first CD. The CD featured two classic slow jams Lately and the sure fire winner Sweet Lady.

How could I ever forget to review this cd. I brought this cd when i came out...some time ago and just saw the video and realized that I needed to review his cd.
This is a great cd and great first effort. There wasn't one song that I disliked on this.
Actually I think this was his best effort.
Yes I liked a couple of songs from his other cds but nothing like this.
My fav tracks:
1. Nobody Else: I loved this track. I dont know if it was the anticipation of his album finally coming out but when this video came out it drew me. Fast track and catchy if you ask me.
2. Tell Me, Tell Me: decent tempo track...always managed to skip
3. Promises: Very nice
4.Sweet Lady: My very favorite...great slow jam.
5. Lately: Very sweet, slow song that just takes you slow ride. Very comforting.
6. Give love a try: Funky, mellow out song. It will make you bop your head.
7. Ain't Nothin' Like a Jones: Same cool feeling
8. You Get Yours: Ok, can listen to....
I'll stop here the whole dang cd is nice...worth listening to because its a classic.

3 out of 5 stars Tyrese- I Wanna Go There (3.5 Stars).......2007-06-20

Well this is another album thats alot like his first. Besides the first six-seven tracks there is really nothing to this album. And even those first few tracks are not flawless, but they saved this album from being horrible. I mean no one can down "How You Gonna Act Like That", but then alot of it goes downhill. I mean the last six songs besides "Kinna Right" which i will be the first to admit is a phenominal baby making track, are all garbage, all of the last six songs are complete and utter garbage. I mean the title track itself is horrible... how could you do a song that bad, let alone name the album after that track. But there are a few highlights. "She Lets Me Be A Man" is one of those summer tracks that you play when you are out driving. And then the amazing production of "Somebody Special" makes it that baby maker. The guitar in the intro to that track is priceless. But other than those songs and his smash single, there is not a whole lot else here to offer, besides alot of filler. But those few select tracks really saved this album. Still a dissapointment though compared to 2000 Watts, but if you really like tyrese i would reccomend buying it.

4 out of 5 stars Some Bangin Slow Jams .......2006-12-29

Tyrese's thrid CD I Wanna Go There featured some of the best slow jams released in 2002. The two slow jams singles released from were How You Gonna Act Like That & the sure fire baby maker Signs Of Love Making were both hot. My favorite slow jam on the album was Kinna Right because it's staright down to the point and features the production of the always good Underdogs. This CD featured Tyrese's attempt at rapping which is his cover of How Do You Wanna It which is abysmall.

5 out of 5 stars Ms. Gibson Speaks !!.......2006-06-22

Tyrese is a very gifted singer, model, actor, rapper & Entrepreneur. He started off by just showing his face in a coca cola commerical to having five star roles in movies. He know he can do tha damn thang..Yes I'm his wife so i'm giving him the props his deserves but he really does deserve them...fince chocolately self !! yum yum !! ..Anyway this CD I loveeeeeeee..I love all his CD's however but this is my favorite..I can't wait until his next joint ALTER EGO drops !!..Muah oh yeah and GO SEE WAIST DEEP TOMORROW ..*Muahhhhhhhhhhhh* Ms. Gibson

4 out of 5 stars He's more than just a pretty face, Tyrese brings the best in this album.......2006-06-04

I have been a loyal fan to Tyrese since the Coca-Cola commercial, and his little bit of acting on that Martin spin off. Okay some of you probably don't remember that, but I have been waiting for the moment that Tyrese would have a break through album that everyone would notice, "I Wanna Go There" clearly brings it.

Tyrese took it to another level with this one. He took the talent he had and combined it with his maturity and developed it with serious album.. He has really grown up on this album. He's not only physically hot but has a lot of talent. Many people kind of write him off because of how he looks but you shouldn't judge a book by its cover because you could be missing out. Tyrese is R&B, he has spring out some sexy ballads in this and some club songs to top it off.

This album is especially great for anyone who has that special someone. Once you get this you'll clearly understand. My favorite songs are "On Top of Me", "I Wanna Go There", "Somebody Special", "Kinna Right," "Signs of Love Makin," and many more.

"I Wanna Go There" is sensible, sensual, talks about love the way it happens. If you are into R&B, and Tyrese this is for you, highly recommend.

"Singer, Model, MTV VJ, Actor = Superstar," reads an insert included in the press packet for 2000 Watts, the follow-up to Tyrese's self-titled 1998 debut. Since when did being mediocre at everything one does add up to superstardom? Granted, the 22-year-old from Watts, California, sports the chiseled cheekbones and scrumptiously rock-hard abs it takes to excel at the "Model" portion of his equation for fame. But as far as the other components go, it might serve Tyrese well to stay away from the endeavors that require talents in any departments besides the, uh, visual ones. 2000 Watts plays like an amalgam of all the things wrong with R&B today. It practically bursts at the seams with Tyrese's shameless self-promotion (which becomes painful on the audacious gospel interlude, "Lord You Control Me," as he sings, "Thank you Jesus / Out of all the people in Watts / You sent me out there to represent for my people") and banal references to flossin' and blingin'. Tyrese gets no help from ultra-blah beats provided by top producers like Rodney Jerkins, Babyface, and the Underdogs, who realize that anyone with pecs as toned as Tyrese's really doesn't need strong grooves to sell records. --Sylvia W. Ty really did himself some good on this album. Because his first was a dissapointment, but this one litterally knocks his old one right out the park. And its not even close. I mean the production is what really stands out on this album from the last. Because like i said in that review, his voice was never the problem and never will be. Because his voice is the perfect combination of strength and suave. And the writing is WAY better to. I mean everything you could imagine. From the timeless first single "I Like Them Girls" that gets the party started the minute the first note drops to the timeless song of sorrow "I'm Sorry" which i am sure will have many other men like myself almost brought to tears. Yes i said it brought to tears. And then there is the Babyface written and produced "There For Me (Baby)" which you will likely find yourself singing at work. "Fling" is that song that everyone will be grooving to and at the same time it has a good meaning, its a song of him simply saying lets make this more than a fling, lets make our love last. And then there is the super sexy raindrop coated "Housekeepin'". I mean this album has so many more strong points then his last, this is definetly not a sophmore slump. There is something for everyone on this album, and in my opinion its the R&B album of the year...easily. So trust me, buy this album its that good!!!

Tyrese burst onto the scene in 1998 with two sure fire classic slow jams Sweet Lady and Lately that would become classics. There really wasn't any noteable fast songs on the CD and it was then I knew that Tyrese was best suited at slow jams. However on 2000 Watts there was one fast cut that I liked which was Just A Baby Boy featuring his Baby Boy co-stars Snoop Dogg & Mr.Tan. The ballad single released from the album What Am I Gonna Do was the jam my sophmore year of college and I still listen to it every now and again. Equally impressive is "There for Me (Baby)," a melodic ballad produced by Babyface.

I might be a little psycho wit him lol but so what !! he's my boo !! ..Just like Nikki Parker was professor's wife..I'm Tyrese's ..Lol..But on a serious note this is a talented man !!.. if you haven't given this cd a try make sure you do...

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome album!.......2005-02-03

This album was released shortly before Tyrese Gibson's starring film BABY BOY and the soundtrack album. The most famous of all on this album is JUST A BABY BOY with Snoop Dogg and Mr. Tan. Dogg co-starred with Gibson in BABY BOY. This album is not to be confused with the track from Michael Jackson's 2001 album INVINCIBLE. This album contains explicit lyrics which may be objectionable to some listeners.

    5 out of 5 stars great cd.......2004-03-15

i wasnt too crazy about his 1st cd but i stuck with him because i knew he had it in him to blow me away. sweet lady was really the only song of its type on there and i love that song. this cd i just loved. if you liked sweet lady then you will probably like this cd. my boyfriend argued with me about tyrese's talent but this cd shut him up and he even gave him his credit:) this cd is great i think he grows with each album and the man can just sing. he has it all and i hope he has a very successful career.

4 out of 5 stars Tyrese - He da man!!.......2001-05-25

After waiting ages on a follow up to the self-entitled Tyrese album, I was thrilled to find this one! This album is what you would expect from Tyrese - a smooth mix of R&B and Hip-Hop. Like his first massive release, this album has many different styles, from slow ballads like I'm Sorry to the more up beat Off the Heezy. This is a must buy for any R&B fan and I can't wait for more from this excellent soul singer! However, the five stars was not obtained as despite some excellent tracks, a classic was some what missing. Sweet Lady from his first album was the one that done it for me but no song on this album managed to match up to that one. Overall though, a great album. Look out for What Am I Gonna Do - my fav song from the album!!
