I like Chris Coco. He contributed to DJ magazine and his reviews were always something you could count on. He also has a fine ear for more laidback, chillout type music. This album comes very close to being the perfect headphone listening experience or accompaniment for sunsets (or sunrises for that matter!). The album gets off to a great start with "Falling", but the start of "All of My Beautiful Friends" is too much for me (the last parts of the song are actually quite good) and "Hazy Lazy" and "My Sunset" are a little too repetitive for my tastes. The rest of the album is to be highly recommended though. Many ambient tunes "Only Love," "Back to Nature," and "Albatross (pretty guitar work by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac)" are quite nice. "Lost Angels" and "Gemini" are standout tracks. "1975 E. Sunrise Blvd" is pretty much a purely descriptive title. My favorite is "Revolution" which has the highest BPM on the album. Overall, this is a superb effort and well worth those moments that it is the perfect soundtrack for - sunsets, Sunday mornings, and small parties with close friends.

Composer, conductor, arranger Frank DeVol scored more than fifty movies and is best known as the composer for the theme songs for the TV series 'My Three Sons', 'The Brady Bunch' and 'Family Affair'. In the 1940s DeVol was an arranger for Dinah Shore, Tony Bennett, Rudy Vallee, Vic Damone and Doris Day. Frank DeVol received multiple Emmy Awards and Academy Award nominations for his extensive body of work.           I recently picked up a demo cd of The Upwelling at a rockin' local cd store. I was expecting decent rock but what I got was a swift kick in the pants by an amazing group! I can't really describe them but at times I hear Something Corporate or Guster or at other times I hear Coldplay. It's such a wonderful new group that everybody should listen to!

          A friend of a friend told me i HAD to listen to The Upwelling, so I did, fully expecting it to suck. Much to my surprise they were incredible. I could describe what they sound like (U2 mixed with coldplay mixed with Pavement) but I'm not sure that would be fair.
          i'll just say check them out if you have the time.. you won't be disapointed.

          I was picking up U2's new one in Virgin and I found the Upwelling album next to "Veritgo". I gave them a whirl on the sound station and the sound just grabbed me. It didn't cost much and about the 7th time through this EP - I was addicted. It's melodic, explosive rock, makes me think of an alternative Peter Gabriel hanging out with Pink Floyd with a twist of U2 edge. The vocals are a little in background and it took me a few more listens to catch all the words but everything just blends together so smoothly!

          This is an exciting band, I actually caught them live and they rocked the house. It will be interesting to see what their next release will be like as they had a number crowd pumping songs. It's great to catch a young band with so much talent right before they explode into the mainstream.

              In the realm of "world music," Carlo Vutera has become a force to be reckoned with, having embarked on an entirely original undertaking with his album Ammore. Boleri Napoletani: Neapolitan love songs arranged in the manner of Cuban boleros. Formerly a professional tenor, he succeeds in adapting his operatic background to the service of the many types of music he has chosen to perform. And Naples has never seemed so close to Havana, thanks to the arrangements of three remarkable musicians: the groundbreaking pianist Roberto Carcasses; the alto saxophonist Yosvany Terry-Cabrera (best known for his contribution to !Cubanismo!); and the phenomenal drummer Dafnis Prieto. Here, the strings emphasize the romanticism of the original songs without ostentation, and on every track the sense of detail and nuance prevails, particularly in the playing of guest soloists such as Irakere trumpeter Julio Padron and eXepional voice of Anais Abreu. The brass arrangements by Yosvany! lend a suggestive Afro-Cuban color to the tunes without overwhelming their Italian roots. One track, "Torna a Surriento," sings the praises of Sorrento and evokes the sirens, to whom myth attributes the founding of Naples: according to the story, one of the sirens perished at the exact future location of the city after throwing herself into the sea to evade the ruse of Ulysses. The song says that you can't leave the Sorrento coast « because of the mermaids, calling you, loving you. ». Music should always be like this: like his compatriots Gianmaria Testa and Romano Zanotti, Carlo Vutera is a singer of many charms.

                Chris Coco is with out any doubts of the best down tempo dj's around, other fans should recognize names like Phil Mason, Mix Master Morris, Bonobo, Jose Padilla, Rob da Bank (the man behind Sunday best), Mr. Scruff, Fila Brazilia, Nacho Sotomayor (La Roca) and many more. This record is probably one of the best efforts to create music that defines the usual "clichés" that nowadays seem to be everywhere you can read the label (chill out) (down tempo). I had the pleasure of seeing him at the past SONAR festival in Barcelona, the man has skills and an amazing eclectic musical selection that kept me on a higher level of musical conscience the whole session. He wisely chooses material from ambient, house and trip hop to create a unique blend of sounds and atmospheres. His musical sense is truly reflected in his latest album, from the marvellous and highly recommended "All of my Beautiful friends" to the more Trip-hop esque sounds of tracks like "Only Love" and "Revolution". Also check out "Back to nature" with Lenny from Ibizarre. This Cd has an energy of its own, an intense aura of magic rarely seen today, be advised that any major fan of chill out should have Next Wave in his or her collection.
                I cannot say how wonderful I felt when Chris Coco himself after his performance had the noble gesture of giving me the copy that he used during his session. This cd is a chill out dream come true.
