This collection, unlike a lot of others on the market, boasts excellent sound transfers and an intelligent selection of genuine club tracks. It does however try to cover a number of bases in it's musical choices and as a result you may feel, like me, more fondly towards some tracks than others - in my case, I could easily have done without 'Whistle Bump', 'Do Your Dance' and Freddie James' rubbish 'Hollywood'. The other tracks however are very welcome on CD, especially Venus Dodson's little remembered 'Night Rider'. Overall this CD shows that there are some people out there that really care about the music. Well done and let's hope that this is the beginning of a series.

This collection exemplifies vintage disco, not the disco music
that was big on pop charts, but rather tracks which were most
frequently played at nightclubs where dancing was popular. Some
of the tracks in this wonderful compilation (ie. "Forbidden Love" by Madleen Kane and "Night Rider" by Venus Dodson) only
made the Club Charts, whereas others, such as Ashford and Simpson's "Found A Cure", received airplay on the Pop Charts. Nevertheless, if you are looking for rare, refreshing, danceable, and pure disco from the late 1970s, then this CD is for you!

Though the tracks on this CD are fine, I was not happy with the product. Each track has a 2-second delay in between... so the music does not seque into each other. Not at all what I was expecting.

This is a superb collection of full-length disco classics - none of your disappointing radio edits and definitely none of the usual rubbish that appears on every other second-rate collection. Stunning! Why didn't they make this a series - or would that have been tempting fate?

This collection along with the "Salsoul Classics 2" is very essential to all disco fans that want something different than mainstream artists like Donna Summer, The Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor...

If you bought "The Disco Box" and/or "The Disco Years, Vol. 1-7", then you will like this collection. Salsoul was just as important to the Disco era as those artists. First Choice, Instant Funk, Double Exposure, and of course The Salsoul Orchestra (which had friendly competition with MFSB and Love Unlimited Orchestra) were talented artists that helped spawn disco. Highly recommended.

Without question the greatest selection of music from the
Disco era and one unforgettable record company.
There is not one day that goes by that I am humming
in my head " My love is free' by Double Exposure.
Loleatta's hits "Hit and run", " Love Sensation" and " Dreamin".
" Doctor Love" and " Double Cross" by First Choice.
The music of 2000 and up will never reach the status of classic.
These are songs that will transcend time and I will never stop
dancing to them.

This 2-CD set is a collection of some of Salsoul Records' classic tracks, all in their full-length versions. While many songs here may be familiar to those who heard them in the clubs, there are also some tunes that became radio hits ("I Got My Mind Made Up"-Instant Funk, e.g.). The wide variety of sounds found on this set (spanning roughly from 1975 to 1983), is just mesmerizing. Some tunes are ultimate workout numbers: Loleatta Holloway's "Dreamin'", "Love Sensation" and "Hit And Run", Double Exposure's "Ten Percent", and Ripple's "The Beat Goes On". There are two Shep Pettibone remixes from 1983 of previously released records: "Let No Man Put Asunder" (originally recorded by First Choice in 1977) and "Oooh I Love It (Love Break)", a reworking of Salsoul Orchestra's 1975 LP cut "Chicago Bus Stop". Famed Paradise Garage d.j. Larry Levan's "Garage" version of Inner Life's "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" clocks in at 10:27. For those who have just become acquainted with the music of this excellent record label, this 2-disc set is worth every penny!! Other fine cuts from this collection include First Choice's "Love Thang" (1979), Aurra's "Checking You Out" (1982), Inner Life's "Moment Of My Life" (also from 1982), and Skyy's "Call Me" (1981).

This a great CD to purchase. This CD is packed with jammin disco classics. Many people try to diss disco, but many don't know or understand how DEEP First Choice or Loletta Holloway really are. There are plenty of disco classic on this CD. First Choice & Loletta both got alot of radio play on Chicago's WBMX 102.7 in the 80's.

Get out your leisure suit, bell-bottom slacks, mood ring, and platform shoes and boogie to this collection of 1970's classic instrumentals!! If you are too young to have been part of this era, then just enjoy the funky sounds! This is a fun collection (one of a series). My other favorite is the "Surf' collection. Have fun and have a 1970's party....plug in your lava lamp....and have fun.

Sometimes ya need to have just MUSIC in the background -- no words. Fortunately these classics haven't lost their "touch," and this CD definitely fills the bill ! Found this CD the best when driving long distances & for getting through the drudgery of housecleaning.

This is a pretty cool compilation of instrumentals from the '70s. 12 of the 18 songs here were Top Ten hits, with the rest being minor hits. The title says "rock" instrumentals, but only a few of the songs are actually rock. There is more funk and disco than rock here. One of the odder trends of the '70s was dance/pop versions of classical instrumetals, and this CD has three examples of that. They are kind of cheesy, but fun. This is the weakest of the "Rock Instrumental Classics" CDs, but it's still very good, despite not including anything from later than 1976.

I bought this album for one reason only, to get "The Hustle" and "A Fifth of Beethoven". And frankly, those are the only tunes I recognized on this album. So when the first track, "Joy", began I was mildly surprised. Back in the 70's the only radio I listened to was easy listening and classic stations, the kind that had very few commercials and hardly ever announced the name of songs. "Joy" was one of those I remember as being loosely based on a Bach symphony, a nice bouncy tune that I liked. Already this album was more than I bargained for. The next track I remember was "TSOP", another one of those that I never knew the name of but enjoyed hearing.
"Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)" was also based on a classical work (don't remember the composer) and which is better known as the theme to "2001 A Space Odyssy". It's okay as far as being a juiced up classical, but nothing spectacular. "Rock and Roll, Part 2" I also remember mostly as being played a lot at football games.
And then track 13, "Popcorn", started. I nearly fell out of my chair!!! This was a song that I absolutely fell in love with back in the 70's and never knew the name of. For the reason mentioned above, that the station I listened to never mentioned the song titles. But for a year or so I spent hours listening to the radio just to hear this one. After reading the insert I know that "Popcorn" was one of the moog hits from that era. Even after almost 30 years it stills takes my breath away.
The rest of the album isn't even worth a single star (IMHO), but that's just me. "Popcorn", "The Hustle", and "A Fifth of Beethoven" make this album well worth having.

Good selection from the vaults of TSR. All but the last 3 are the org. US 12" mixes. The last 2 seem to be misplaced on this CD. Weekend sounds like a rip-off of Paul Parker, Eastbound Expressway, with Kraftwerk on acid. Thankfully its short. Most of the songs come from Europe via the Record Shack label in England. The disc whould have received 5 stars if they whould have tossed out the last 2 fillers and placed the org. mix of "Stop". That tune had an incredble break not found here. Overall, great party tracks from mid-eighties. Another good sourse of this style is "Record Shack Presents" 1&2. Both have 2 discs of the same 80's style and full length. Well worth the money if able to find them.

What a Great selection of Dance Hits. This is the way the dance music sounded in the Clubs during the 80's. TSR released SO many great tunes it is a shame they didn't make this a 2 disc compilation. BUY IT NOW!

Perfect collection of 80s hi-energy songs all in their 12" extended glory! A few of these extended mixes are not available anywhere else but on this disc. From the Sylvester-ish soul of Shawn Benson's "Secluded" to the quirky fun of Magazine 60's "Don Quichotte", you can't go wrong with this collection of fun NRG songs.

I have yet to hear this CD, although, I was there on the dance floor when these songs were being played. I can hardly wait to get it in my hands, er... uh... on the CD player. Just seeing the titles of these songs brings back memories of fun in the 1980's.

This album is a rarity these days because it features a black guy who ACTUALLY SINGS instead of just talking fast like he was wired on Benzedrine in the mistaken belief that Rap consitutes music. My favourite track on this album is the soulful and mournful "We Had It All". This album wa released at a time when a music artist was judged solely on the quality of his songs instead of how many half naked women with big breasts he could fit into a 3 minute so called "Music Video".Dobie my man, you ROCK!!!

the main reason why i've bought this cd is just for the lovely ballad of "oh honey" it was well worth it to get it for that alone, the long version at that!! delegation should have made more beautiful ballads like that song,then more people would have bought their songs more if they made others like that!! turn on the blue lights in the basement,everybody !! j.h.

The editorial leads you to belive your getting the 12 version of Ring My Bell. However, This 12" has been edited down from 8 to 6 minutes. The back of the cd also lists Feels Like I'm In Love by Kelly Marie instead of Run To Me. Since you only get 10 songs this is really below average. Honestly I don't remmeber half of these songs but, it was nice to get Roni Griffith.

    I'm not into the greatest hits thing but considering we can not find original albuns by the Hues Corporation this is a nice opportunity to have their music. The quality of the recording is good and the songs are nice. In the absence of their albuns it's recommended for lovers of the disco music.

    I bought this cd, because there is no other with all their hits. I especially bought for the 12" versions. But to my surprise only "love corporation" is about 10 seconds longer than the original on vinyl. The rest isn't.

    The group that named themselves after a famous billionaire, one Mr. Howard Hughes...and scrambled the name a bit. The nuggets on this album of course are their biggest hits including "Freedom For The Stallion" ( also covered by Three Dog Night) and "Rock the Boat". There are quite a few above average tunes in this collection such as "Love Corporation" and "Rockin' Soul". Worth a listen.

    As for the fellow who said that he expected more for the so-called 12 inch version, apparently he is not very familiar with the album at all. What this simply means is that that song on this CD was taken from the original 12 inch album which I do have and is the same as this CD compilation

    Being a fan of the '70 soul and soft rock music, this is one group that is in the Top Ten, (Top Five in my book)that brings
    back fond memories. Rock the Boat and Rockin Soul are popular
    songs that everybody enjoys, but Love Corporation and Go to The
    Poet, stand out in my book. This group really rocks when I play
    their music and think back to my younger days.
