Product Description
Like a surreal Norman Rockwell painting come to life, Antsy McClain is the embodiment of the small-town, blue-collar life he experienced growing up in a little Kentucky trailer park called Pine View Heights and reared by a truck driving father and an Avon selling mother. Trailercana features guest appearances from Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Bobby Cochran of Steppenwolf, Tommy Smothers, and Bonnie Bramlett. A glimpse of song titles from Trailercana offers a tantalizing look into McClains wry blend of humor and emotional depth. He serves up an ode to pseudo-celebrity in Ron Howards Brother and revels in the irony of I Was Just Flipped Off By A Silver Haired Old Lady. Mix in songs like Cubic Zerconium In The Rough, Joan of Arkansas, KOA Refugee and Prozac Made Me Stay, and its obvious that McClain has a slightly skewered view of life in the U.S. of A. He infused the album with the rootsy, muscular blend of rock and roll that has become his trademark. Wildly independent and fiercely creative, Antsy McClain is staking his claim on pop culture. His plot may not be huge, but hes mining it deep, uncovering little musical gems for Trailercana.
Customer Reviews:
musicians with an authentic sound and sense of humor.......2007-07-21
As a former trailer inhabitant myself, I was quite curious to see how Antsy McClain and the Trailer Park Troubadours' latest album, Trailercana, would move me. While I was not immediately turned off as Antsy and his band of rockabilly misfits cranked out twangy opener "Living in Aluminum" and other saloony sing-alongs, Trailercana isn't an album I'd listen to more than once.
Not to say Antsy and the Trailer Park Troubadours don't do what they do well. Fans should be more than pleased with the band's latest backyard barbeque effort. I'm just not a fan of the genre - kind of Dire Straits meets Jimmy Buffet in a back-country bar. However, I'm highly appreciative of musicians with an authentic sound and sense of humor, and in that regard, Trailercana will resonate, given the right audience.
With track titles like "KOA Refugee," "Ron Howard's Brother," and my personal favorite, "I Was Just Flipped Off by a Silver Haired Old Lady With a `Honk If You Love Jesus' Sticker on the Bumper of Her Car," Trailercana delivers melodic comical narratives with a genuine fondness for the trashiness of trailer park living - true Americana - with guitar slides and harmonies to boot.
And while I cringe at the thought of joining the Troubadours' cult of fanatics (dubbed `flamingo heads'), I'm still a sucker for a well-groomed man in wingtips and black-framed glasses. If you are one to indulge your curiosities, Trailercana might just be worth a listen.
extraordinary.......2007-07-15
Antsy is an extraordinary song writer and performer. There is a wit and honesty in the music that is unique in the music business.
Clever lyrics by, for and about real people..........2007-07-07
This cd is worth buying for song titles alone: Living in Aluminum, Prozac Made Me Stay, Ron Howard's Brother, A Cubic Zirconium in the Rough and I Married Up, plus the clincher I Was Just Flipped Off by a Silver-Haired Old Lady.
The lyrics more than live up to the song titles, and in addition to their hilarity, Antsy McClain has a technically good voice down to a good growl or two. You can clearly understand every word he sings. Harmonizing vocals are just right...the guest artists are a pleasant surprise and the range of musical styles from folkabilly to reggae to Buffettesque country and pop make for an interesting and varied selection of songs. Falling in Love in America is one of the best pop songs I've ever heard. There are butt-kicking horn arrangments, and hey, Antsy certainly has his own unique look. Who knew Rave was such a great hair-care product?
Trailercana is a bold and clever concept cd--by, for and about real people, a light-hearted reminder that most of us are one or two generations removed from blue collar roots and that is nothing to be ashamed of.
It's a hoot!!!.......2007-06-28
It is laugh out loud fun, complete with lots of talented players. The words are understandable and often come to mind to create a private, funny moment that no one else understands.
I hope I can see a live performance soon.
Humorous, intelligent folk-country-soul.......2007-06-18
The Kentucky bred McClain has made a career out of this trailer-park upbringing, blending clever humor and wry social observations with enticing country soul music. There's a hint of Rodney Crowell's wordiness in these sixteen tracks that combines nicely with a touch of Kinky Friedman's irreverence. McClain's satire can be both whimsical and poignant, which might suggest country antecedents like Sheb Wooley or Cledus T. Judd, but he's more of a humorous musician than a musical humorist, clever like Ben Vaughn and Barnaked ladies, with a fine voice filled with the sly good times of Charlie Robison and Jimmy Buffett.
The rocking opener "Living in Aluminum" states McClain's case for contentment without resorting to materialism, "I don't need a house of vinyl / I don't need a house of wood / There ain't no better way to test your mettle / Than in a semi-precious metal neighborhood." McClain expands on personal responsibility in "The Devil Gets More Credit Than He Deserves" (with guest Lindsey Buckingham providing electric guitar) and considers religious hypocrisy in the true-life folk-gospel "I Was Just Flipped Off by a Silver Haired Old Lady With a 'Honk If You Love Jesus' Sticker on the Bumper of Her Car."
McClain sings of escaping into the perfect world of a billboard, the dire consequences of PMS, and the torment of a post-breakup stay at KOA. His sedated "Prozac Made Me Stay" features a guest appearance from Tommy Smothers, and "Full Moon in Pine View Heights" recalls characters from his childhood, including a date who "had eyebrows plucked thinner than a razor's edge / She smelled like popcorn, Quaker State and Lemon Pledge." His ode to "Ron Howard's Brother" returns to the theme of finding satisfaction in one's circumstance, and plays it straight for the album's closer, an evocative poem of America and young love.
This is a surprisingly sophisticated independent release featuring sixteen originals, self-produced with original artwork and graphic design by the singer himself. McClain is an accomplished songwriter whose work should find favor with both country and pop audiences, reviving the storytelling Jim Croce brought to the top of the charts in the 1970s. His band is powerful and plays country-folk-soul with funky touches of horns, organ and electric slide guitar. Someone in the record industry ought to wake up and sign this guy! Trailer Park Musical a good hear........2007-05-15
This musical is a good laugh and can bring up the spirits of any musical theatre buff. The voices are excellent and they showcase a great characterization of the personages represented in the show. It is a CD that entices the listener to go ahead and get tickets to the show and go see it. Also a personal acquaintance of mine Leslie Kritzer does a phenomenal job on the CD.
A Tornado of Fun!.......2007-04-10
This seems to be my year for finding recordings of lesser known musicals that are just awesome. It started with buying Zombie Prom, and continues with The Great American Trailer Park Musical!
But this show is just all-out fun! The tunes are catchy (I got one of them running through my head, right now) and the lyrics are quite clever. The three main ladies become the Greek chorus, telling us about life in their trailer park, Armadillo Acres, located in Starke, Florida. The show then focuses on one agoraphobic housewife who hasn't left her trailer in 20 years, and her husband who has had enough and starts fooling around with a stripper who is on the run from her boyfriend. Sound crazy? It is! And a whole lotta fun!
Yes, there are some explicit lyrics, but nothing excessive. So do yourself a favor and give this album a listen. You might just want to move into your own "manufactured home" before you know it.
One Of My Favorite New Musicals In Years.......2007-01-31
When I tell people about this show, I tell them it is far better than it had to be... With a title like that, the audience draw is already built in, but with great songs and a very clever story (without ever being offensive or degrading) this musical is a fun hit. And while it is not the old-school "Okalhoma" style musical, there are a lot of musical niceties about the show - layered melody lines, tight harmonies and clever clever phrases and lyrics. I fully recommend it.
The show (and Recording) ROCKS.......2006-09-26
The whole point of theatre, even in a tongue-in-cheek satire like this one, is to have some sense of truth. The "Great American Trailer Park Musical" completely hits the target dead-on. With it's ridiculous pop culture references, use of white trash musical pastiche (honky tonk country, corporate rock, wedding disco, and the like), and general use of bad taste in a visual (and audio) aesthetic, the show is one loaded joke that never tires. And the over the top performances, all grounded in this evident truth, provide an evening of Laugh after Laugh - more so than similar pieces like "Urinetown" and "Altar Boys".
Sure the language, for those who have expressed concern in above reviews, can be strong at times. But never is the language used in a matter of fact fashion. For those who have ever even remotely hung around a trailer park (as it quite Clearly states in the TITLE) or even around those who inhabit a Sociologists Jackpot of research, You know that crude humor and strong language are staple of the norm.
"Oklahoma" and "Cats" this show is not. However, "Great American Trailer Park Musical" is a definite piece to listen and pay attention to. With the general climate of new musicals to be either repackaged musicals from movies (Wedding Singer, Hairspray, Footloose, etc) or jukebox musicals (Mamma Mia, All Shook Up, Hot Feet, etc) - there is a new genre that is emerging, the "in-joke" musical. Trailer Park, Altar Boys, Spelling Bee, and title of show are examples of this. These are shows that blur satire and exaggeration with real life all the while dealing in a specific subject matter.
"Trailer Park" is a hip, new and exciting piece of music theatre, even if not groundbreaking. For those who like to play it safe may I suggest the "20 Great Broadway ShowStoppers" CD - all songs are from 1932 to 1949. You will be sure no profane language will infect you there.
Wasn't That Funny.......2006-07-29
I gave this a good listen, but did not find it all that funny ... or memorable.

Beth Orton is the rare vocalist who exists between disparate worlds; she is a singer with a folkie soul who is as comfortable accompanied by an acoustic guitar as by electronic rhythms. Indeed, most people first heard her on William Orbit's Hinterland album and on the Chemical Brothers' Exit Planet Dust. Likewise, her slightly askance vocal style seems to betray naiveté, while lyrically there is a world-weary depth that the latest spate of tough-talking Lolitas cannot muster. Each song's closely observed details create small ripples that grow to substantial emotional waves by album's end; this very promising debut should be the harbinger of great things to come from Orton, with or without the help of a Lilith Fair or anything beyond the integrity of her songs and the wise lilt of her voice. --Alan E. Rapp
Album Description
Debut album from singer/ songwriter whose vocal talents have previously graced tracks for both Chemical Brothers and Red Snapper. Andrew Weatherall remixed many of the 12 tracks on the album, which includes the singles 'She Cries Your Name', 'Touch Me With Your Love' & 'Someone's Daughter'. This Japanese pressing also includes the bonus track, 'It's Not The Spotlight' as well as including a lyric booklet which is exclusive to this pressing.
Customer Reviews:
Fans can never be objective..........2006-04-26
From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...Beth has a unique voice...kudos...and this album highlights perfectly her folk sensibility with the touch of electronic influence she probably picked up from William Orbit.
Better in Person.......2003-07-18
After seeing Beth Orton live at Field Day I was impressed by her accoustic solo music, as well as her lively personality. I was so excited to buy this cd based on what I had heard, but was dissapointed when I received it. Very little of the folkish guitar work that I had fell in love with was audible on the CD, and Orton over-layers her work with poppy base and drums. At some points on this CD she reminds me of radiohead (faintly) or Beck (especially on "tangent"), and at times delivers the folk feel that I found so appealing, but for the most part comes off as poppy and frankly, boring. Though this CD is certainly worth buying for tracks 1-3 and 10 and 11, it lacks replay value.
Perhaps I am being overly critical because I had such high expectations for Beth. I would reccomend buying this CD, however, see her live. She is a great musician and a charming personality.
Things must get mighty dull in that chill-out room.......2003-03-29
This album always gets hyped as folk meets trip hop, which superficially sounds like an interesting meld. The truth of it is, however, that the "hop" never comes, and all you're left with is a long, slow trip into tired folk. Beth's vocals, during the very few seconds she manages to perk up, have a similarity to Carol King. Some might view that as a recommendation. The unobtrusive atmospherics make this pleasant-enough as background noise for when you're doing something like reading, but if you're doing something more active (like, say, washing the dishes) you might want a less somnambulant soundtrack.
What they say about you, it's true...you know it, too.......2002-12-03
A lot of bizarre labels have been attached to the music of Beth Orton: Folk and rock, to be sure, but also trip hop, beat hop, treat beat, beat bop, seat crop, and lounge. It doesn't matter that i made up half of those words just now, and it doesn't matter that you even try to put Beth Orton into some tidy little pigeon hole, because her music is impossible to nail down. What is Beth Orton's music? It's beautiful, soulful, witty, heartbreaking, and damned near perfect. She's not the next anyone. She's the first Beth Orton.
Insert Superlative Here.......2002-11-01
Started with Daybreaker and worked my way backward through Central Reservation and just received Trailer Park. All three are excellent.
All three are different and unique in their own way. I think that Beth's voice is clearer and less edgy on Trailer Park than her later work which is a very pleasant surprise as the lyrics - which are excellent - can be understood. In some ways this CD reminds me more of Daybreaker than CR as both span alot of musical territory from straight acoustic guitar to orchestral movements.
There are few artists that I can honestly say that I take great pleasure in all of their CD's, Beth is one. Yeah I know I haven't mentioned "Best Bits" which I have also received but have not really listened to - but this is a remarkable string of CD's.
There are those who simply do not like Beth's voice and those who don't want to spend the energy to listen to music that is better with active brain activity. That means that you really have to listen to the music to really get what Beth is doing - it really is not suited to backround music. If you don't fall into either category you will more than likely fall in love with Beth like I have.

If you love the Trailer Park Boys, or if you just love mockumentaries, spoofs, and gut-busting idiocy, this is the movie for you! This is THE mockumentary movie of all times - and will create a TPB addict out of you if you aren't already a junkie.
The Trailer Park Boys' Movie.......2007-03-13
It was so, so disappointing!! I am an avid fan, and could not WAIT for the movie to come out on DVD. I pre-ordered a copy, watched it the evening it arrived, and was under-whelmed. It is (in my opinion) worse than the worst episode. The writers tried to introduce the entire series in a movie length of time; it was disjointed and not funny. Had I not been familiar with the series, I would have wondered what anyone liked about the show. The writers and cast are too talented for a production as this.

truly, the best!.......2005-06-13
These guys from The Trailor Park Troubadours are very talented. Their songs will put a smile on anyone's face... at least the one who don't own a trailor or aren't afraid to admit that they're a redneck.
The Troubs Rawk!.......2005-04-11
The Trailer Park Troubadours are the most high energy feel good band ever! Besides hilarious lyrics, their outstanding musical talents make them the most fun band you'll ever see. Check out their website at: http://www.unhitched. I guarantee you'll be glad you did, and you can thank me later when you see me at one of their concerts where everybody will be having the time of their lives. You can buy all their cds and a dvd at their site for way cheaper than here!
Best In the Park.......2004-02-16
Great CD, great band. When was the last time you found a CD you could sing along to that was clever, fresh, and very listenable AND you could play for your kids? These songs have wit, a beat, and energy level that will entertain the whole trailer park.
2 Troubs in a Trailer--laughing all the way.......2000-02-24
I have known these guys since their early days of dragging their trailer from place to place singing for their supper. They have finally hit the big time in a doublewide cruising down the fast lane. These songs are dynamite and will blow the unwary listener away. If you like fun singalong music, you'll love this one!
You won't hear music this good on a top 40 station........1999-10-25
To be honest, I bought my copy at Walmart. Where else would you expect to find something like this.
They sing about trailers, trailer parks and the people that populate them. These are songs about the people you know, probably someone you're related to.
They remind me of Jimmy Buffet. In fact if Jimmy Buffet lived in a trailer, he would probaly sing songs like this.
Too bad they didn't put any copies out on 8-track.
Really, though, this is great stuff.

Heard it? Buy it........2007-06-02
I first heard the Trailer Park Troubadours a few years ago when I lived in Santa Cruz. KPIG, the excellent alt-country-bluegrass-whatever station in nearby Freedom, played "My Baby Whistles When She Walks" one afternoon in the car, and I nearly lost it. It was like country with the playfulness of They Might Be Giants, and I deem that a good thing.
Rushed out to the record store to buy it, and wasn't disappointed. Their cover of Olivia Newton-John's "Have You Never Been Mellow?" alone is worth the price of admission.

Each song's closely observed details create small ripples that grow to substantial emotional waves by album's end; this very promising debut should be the harbinger of great things to come from Orton, with or without the help of a Lilith Fair or anything beyond the integrity of her songs and the wise lilt of her voice. --Alan E.

Product Description
Stagger Lee is not an artist that likes to rest on his laurels. He released two hit albums in 2005 under the guidance of NNMaddox, legendary producer of 14mercy. 14mercy specializes in releasing and promoting independent artists like Stagger Lee who are a little off-the-cuff, a little bit extreme, a little bit country and a little rock n' roll. No one fits that bill more than Lee, a Louisiana-born Outlaw country artist who picks up where the likes of Johnny Cash, David Allan Coe, and Hank Williams left off.
Sometimes when you drive by an old "mobile court"-which is a euphemism for "trailer park," you'll hear some classic country and western cuts blasting from the radios of poor white trash. Trailer Park Anthems are raw, unpolished singalongs that go perfect with a plate of crawfish and beer. He's got rockers, he's got ballads, and he's got a itching to pull the trigger on the tommygun that's gonna blow manufactured country-pop out the water. Time to break out the barbecue pit, because good ol' Stagger's got another bunch of songs for us to drunkenly sing along to.
But there's a twist you see. Country music isn't just for goat ropers. It's for City Trash too. Stagger Lee may have grown up in Dixieland, in the Pelican state to be specific, but he calls New York City home now. Now I don't know if Heaven is anything like Dixie, but I do know that Hell is alot like the slums of Spanish Harlem on a chilly October night with gunshots blasting outside your windows, and the thought that your next meal might only consist of a bowl of Ramen noodles.
Lee doesn't limit himself like many modern artists. He's punk rock, heavy metal, rockabilly, psychedelica, jazz, blues, rock n' roll and country and western all in one.
