As anyone who's heard their exuberant first album will tell you, Lemon Jelly are no ordinary chill-out act. Here, the eccentric duo present their second full-length outing, Lost Horizons, and it's every bit as good as their acclaimed debut, Lemonjelly.ky. Inhabiting a world of almost limitless playfulness, Nick Franglen and Fred Deakin make the sort of brassy, beautiful downtempo music that leaves the listener desperately trying to suppress a goofy grin. You see, Lost Horizons is that rarest of things: a focused, humorous, and exciting chill-out album that stands up to repeat listening. Often, this kind of tongue-in-cheek chillage can sound dull and contrived (or, worse, sickly and overbearing), but Lost Horizons is anything but tedious. It bristles with shimmering, sunny instrumentation (jaunty acoustic guitars, skippy beats, tinkling pianos, oh-so-English brass band fanfares--even the odd harp), while quirky, oddball samples lurk 'round every turn ("Nice Weather for Ducks," for example, is a country-funk shakedown based on a sample from a nursery rhyme). From the percussive space jazz of "Return to Patagonia" to the seductive, sleepy closer, "Curse of Ka'zar," Lost Horizons doesn't so much glimmer as positively shine. Is it 2002's best downtempo album? Almost certainly. --Matt Anniss

Ridiculously Awesome.......2007-04-09
Just buy it. You will thank me later. One of the most incredible recordings in musical history. Anything by Lemon Jelly is special and Lemonjelly.ky is also out of this world so why not buy them both?
If I could give this CD 100 stars I would.
Jelly Roll.......2006-10-02
The delicious Lemon Jelly hit the jackpot again with Lost Horizons, whose artwork is as lovely as that on other releases. Not a wobbly one on this plate, but Ramblin' man, Space Walk, Closer and Nice weather for Ducks are particularly tasty. Go on, take a big bite

Dreamy, Easy, Politically Incorrect..........2006-05-27
From the artwork, you'll see that this group is not about making you feel perfect, but rather to make you feel, period. It brings many textures, a satisfying freshness and a pleasing state of mind; without being an overbearing or boring experience. They're not afraid to take chances musically, but in a way every song makes one feel confortable enough to keep on listening in either hypnosis or awe... All the ducks are swiming in the water, la la la la la la... :)
Uh Let's See I would say Interesting............2006-05-24
I bought this cd because of one song I heard on Radio Free Virgin. It's a very interesting cd. I would listen to this on like a long drive, during a hot bath, or if I was day dreaming. It gets your imagination going for sure and takes you off to another world. If you have heard at least one song and liked it you most likely will enjoy the rest too, even though they are quite different from each other.

Album Description
Guitar virtuoso Luca Turilli, best known for his work as lead guitarist, co-composer and co-founder in film score metal band Rhapsody, has presented us with his new band: Luca Turilli's Dreamquest. Not wishing this to be viewed just as a side project, Luca asserts that Dreamquest is an additional outlet for the abundance of overflowing musical ideas of this prolific composer. Fear not Rhapsody fans, Dreamquest, while an entirely separate band, will not interfere with Rhapsody's progress. The debut album, Lost Horizons introduces a new style and technique to Luca's already mighty repertoire, enriched by modern elements: new metal, opera, techno-electronic music and gothic-symphonic atmospheres.
Luca Turilli's Dreamquest is the fulfillment of a dream that Luca has had in mind for many years and he is looking forward to the opportunity to perform Dreamquest material in a live forum as soon as possible. The music on Lost Horizons combines powerful metal instrumentation with angelic, operatic, female vocals to create a sound that might best be described as 'Symphonic Electro-Metal'. The first single Virus, is a prime example of the majestic musical flavour that Dreamquest is made of, while the operatic Sospiro Divino showcases the boundless possibilities presented by this exciting new band. Although favourable comparisons to popular acts are inevitable, make no mistake: Luca Turilli's Dreamquest is a fresh and unique experience

"Life's what you make of it - grasp it!".......2007-03-04
That's from track 10, and, as far as I'm concerned, one way to grasp life is to listen to music such as this. Usually I listen to a new CD for about two weeks before deciding on a rating. Two days were all it took for this one! If you've read my other reviews you know that I'm a big fan of the female operatic voice combined with power metal. It is always nice to find something new in this genre that sounds good, and this sounds very good. It's not quite Nightwish or After Forever, but it is way up there and easily in my five star range.
I'm not crazy about Turilli's Rhapsody works; they are OK I guess but not something I would rave about. What he has done here is completely different and I am raving about it. The lyrics are much more poetic, the melodies more varied, and most of all, there is the vocalist Myst, which is obviously short for mystery. All the CD insert says is "Myst - voice." There is no other information, no picture, nothing. Whoever she is, she has a beautiful voice which can be powerful or moderate or soft with an impressive range. Apparently some people think she is Floor from After Forever but it does not sound like her to me.
All 13 tracks are very listenable. The only one I have a little trouble with is number seven, where Myst's voice is modified electronically, which to me is blasphemy. However it is only done in short sections so I still listen to it. My favorite track is nine, which has one of the most powerful reprises anywhere. The song blasts off with it and then finishes by repeating it three times, with the middle one being mostly a cappella. Very effective indeed!
One more thing concerning the ratings so far on this item. There are mostly fours and fives and then two with only one star. That proves my theory that beauty is entirely in the ear of the beholder. I'm curious to know if the two people who consider this CD junk are fans of Nightwish, After Forever or Epica. If they are not, I wish they would just leave it alone. I could go rate a bunch of rap CD's with one star also, but what good would that do anyone? (Please see my profile for a brief discussion of my rating philosophy.)
Not a kid, just don't have my own Amazon account........2007-03-02
First thing I must say about this album is.. The singer's range is just amazing, and her voice is quite beautiful.
Now, I'll admit this, I'm not a Rhapsody fan and I've never listened to Luca Turilli's solo project. But for some reason I just HAD to get this album, and I'm glad I did.
The opening song Virus is an excellent opener, and my favorite song on this album. While I completely enjoy this album, I do grudgingly have little to say about it because, while it is excellent it just doesn't grab me (other than the singers voice.)
Over-all, if you enjoy metal or just good music I'd recommend getting this album.
listen to the biggest luca fan ever.......2007-02-26
seriously I worship luca but this release is failure. No double bass. No speed. No Luca solos. Just listen to Prophet of the last eclipse if you want to be inspired. This album i have listened to countless times but i just cant recommend it to anyone.
WOW!.......2007-02-22
i cant think of words to describe this.. no words have been invented to describe how amazing this is..
im not going to spend alot of time describing each track. just go out and buy this masterpiece..luca turillis genious shines through again.. i cant help but forget whats going on around me when i put this on.
This goes great with my goth rock collection.......2007-01-10
No longer power metal..like it better than alot of my goth rock. Powerful, catchy, fun..cool but defintely goth rock. Luca just don't get lazy.

A Wonderful Preview.......2000-11-14
For those of you not familiar w/ Helicon, they are a Baltimore based trio that specializes in spreading the joy and beauty of international music. The group consists of Chris Norman, a world renown wooden flute player (he does classical music as well), Ken Kolodner, an incredible hammer dulcimerist and fiddler who also happens to have a P.h.d, and Robin Bullock, a magnificent guitarist, citernist, and fiddler, who actually started out in rock music. Anyway, the group has since begun to explore other interests so they no longer tour together, but that doesnt mean that their music is dead. In fact, it is alive and well on this recording. Track 1 is played by Norman on a type of double barreled flute that makes it sound like 2 flutes are playing, creating a truly unique sound. The second half of track 1 has a much simpler beat, but is still just as pleasing to the ear. Track 2 is a pair of beautiful Peruvian pieces that begin w/ a simple hammer dulcimer rhythm, but eventually adds in complexity, until the texture is truly South American. Next, they move to Sweden, a country rich in its fiddling, and perform two polskas. Although this CD does these pieces justice, the way they perform them is even better (they move their bodies to accent the dynamic changes in a sort of call and respond manner). Track 5 finally gets to some of the traditional Irish and American reels that have begun to find its place in mainstream America nowadays. They certainly do celtic music justice. Next, "Mr. Pantaleish" is perhaps the most mysterious piece on this recording, and it is truly haunting. Track 7 returns to America, where they play an old American fiddle tune, and a tune that they learned from Freyda Epstein, a brilliant musician from Virginia. All in all, this is a great recording, and is only a preview of what this incredible trio would accomplish in the coming years that they toured together. You will notice that this recording almost sounds like there is a concert in your room, because the music is pure. There is only limited audio enhancing machines used which makes the music all that much better. I highly encourage anyone to buy this CD, and to also check out Helicon's recordings, as well as the member's solo efforts. You will never tire of this stuff.
