Customer Reviews:
Not My Style.......2007-05-11
This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!
Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28
For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.
Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16
This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.
Western Music.......2005-07-29
I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."
A great follow-up.......2003-08-29
This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

What's a woebegone wall-crawler to do? Arachnid-powered superteen Peter Parker's all-too-human foibles are never far from the heart of director Sam Raimi's second installment of the Spider-Man saga, giving it an emotional resonance that sets it smartly apart from its summer blockbuster competition. But while Raimi and star Toby McGuire help emotionally ground the film, its stunning CGI effects -- and this robust, aggressive orchestral score by Danny Elfman -- insure we never forget this is no mere soap opera. The composer returns with a vengeance to the larger-than-life, crowd-pleasing sensibility of his acclaimed work on Batman and its sequel, though he occasionally seasons it with sparing dashes of the post-modern flirtations of his Hulk score. Elfman conjures his formula masterfully, bookending a suitably moody, rhythmically anxious new theme for Dr. Octopus with a brassy reprise of villainy-past on "The Goblin Returns." Though leavened by more emotionally bright passages, it's a score largely dominated by the dark, brooding comic book melodramatics that are the favorite of so many Elfman acolytes. --Jerry McCulley
Customer Reviews:
This is One of Elfman's Best Scores!!!!.......2007-05-09
I really love this cd. ive always wanted to hear the main title from the movie and when i got this cd i was really happy and when i heard it i felt like i was watching the movie again. Elfman is one of my favorite and best composers since John Williams!!! This is a MUST have!!!!
Not the best soundtrack I've heard.......2007-03-09
I own a lot of soundtracks and this is not one of the best. The music is great when the movie is playing but loses something on its own.
Missing some music pieces.......2006-10-14
I decided to buy this CD after wanting a piece played in Spider-Man 2 SO badly. I was furious when I listened to this and didn't find it anywhere. The piece I was looking for was the piano piece during the scene when Peter hugs Aunt May when she's packing. You'd think it would be in 'Ant May Packs' but it's not. It is also missing some other great pieces from the movie. A bit of a let down...
A well Motion Picture Score........2006-02-10
This Orignal Motion Picture score was great becuase of the music that Danny Elfman used on this Cd. I love #1"Main Titles",#2,and I love the Doc Ock theme. I really wish that they would of put in the Pizza Delivery when Peter delivers the pizza's. And when Doc Ock puts his arms up for the first time. But I love this motion picture score soundtrack. It's a great score to listin to. I highly recommend it! And it's a 48 minute soundtrack and the music in the film wasn't all in the soundtrack. But Danny Elfman did an awesome job with this Orignal Motion Picture Score for Spider-Man 2!
great buy .......2006-01-20
this cd is a great buy for spider-man fans because it includes most of the music score but not all. my favorite tracks are track #1 whick the title theme, track #7 which is titled the mugging/peters turmoil peters turmoil is the first 3 minuets and is also the theme when peter says I'm spider-man no more, I also like track #9 which is titled hes back, track #14 which is titled at long last love, and finnaly the classic but annoyingly catchy track #15 which is raindrops keep fallin on my head. other themes on this cd are train/appreciation which is track #10. also there is the track titled the goblins returns which includes a little of the green goblin theme.

Album Details
Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. A Film Maker Could Always Rely on Mancini to Deliver a Composition that Hit the Mark for a Film and Conveyed Exactly What was Required and More. He also Filled the Role of an American Mantovani, Recording 'muzak' Versions of Popular Hits. He was Handsome, Personable, but Most of All, Well Respected for his Craft.
Customer Reviews:
not enough Galway.......2003-10-02
There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.
Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head by Andy Williams.......2007-01-10
I grew up listening to this album. The music is timeless and Andy's voice is at it's best. It fills my soul, lifts my spirits, and takes me back to my childhood in all ways that are good. Receiving this cd from Amazon was like reuniting old friends. Mmm...mmm...good.
Great CD!!.......2004-04-29
I've recently bought this CD off of Amazon.com a while back. The music on this Andy Williams CD is excellent. I've admire Andy's sweet voice for about 3 years. What is so amazing is that Andy re-records these hits like Bridge Over Troubled Water and turns them into his own arrangement. One of my favorite songs on this CD is "Long Time Blues". If you also admire the voice of Andy Williams, then this is the CD for you.
A new view of ANDY WILLIAMS----and a COOL view it is!!!!.......2002-08-05
In 1969 Andy Williams was in the midst of a transistion. He turned 40 that year and he was back on NBC with a new show. No longer content to be the tuxedo or sweater clad champion of easy listening, in 1969 a new Andy Williams emerged. THis was a newer, cooler, and hipper ANDY. Take a listen at these two classic albums, and get to know a newer view of Andy Williams--a really cool view indeed.

This energetic, foot-tapping, no-filler album from the multi-talented Kenny Neal is a sheer delight, showcasing his fine skills on guitar and harmonica and his rich, powerful voice. Blues Fallin' Down Like Rain starts off with a bang, with an up-tempo rendition of the classic "Big Boss Man." Things settle down with "Shadow on the Moon," which features some tasteful guitar work and smooth, excellent vocals. In fact, Neal's voice is one of this album's major strengths, moving smoothly from richly sung melodies to expressive growls just as the music requires. The highlight of this album is the title track, a slow, lonely ballad with excellent guitar work and backing vocals. However, neither is as powerful as Neal's singing; when he pulls out all the stops, the results are impressive. Highly, highly recommended. --Genevieve Williams
Customer Reviews:
***1/2 - good, but not his best.......2005-07-01
After a lenghty stay with Bruce Iglauer's Alligator Records, Kenny Neal signed with Telarc in 1997, releasing this album the next year.
He still plays his trademark Louisiana-style blues, but the horn sections that backed Neal on his Alligator albums are gone, and the sound is perhaps a little bit more polished, with a stronger soul influence. And there are more covers than usual.
Kenny Neal still has one of the best, most soulful and nuanced voices in modern electric blues, but overall "Blues Fallin' Down Like Rain" is not as strong as his best Alligator dates.
The production is slicker, and Neal's renditions of songs like Willie Dixon's "My Babe" and Guitar Slim's "The Things I Used To Do" just don't measure up to the classic recordings by Bo Diddley, Little Walter and Slim himself. "I'm Ready" is pretty good, though, and Neal performs an energetic "Big Boss Man" with the drums playing in double time.
Also, Ted Taylor's swinging mid-tempo soul-blues "Someday" and the equally soulful title track are both very good, as is the funky "Just A Matter Of Time" and Neal's own "Shadow On The Moon". The originals "Full-Time Fool" and "Strike While The Iron Is Hot" are pretty good as well; I just can't help feeling that I've heard these songs before. In fact, "Strike" is not much more than a slightly slicker version of the terrific number "Don't Fix Our Love" from Neal's best album, "Hoodoo Moon", and that's a bit disappointing. Nice harp playing, though.
If you're new to Kenny Neal you probably won't notice one way or the other, and unless you're familiar with the original version of songs like "My Babe" and "The Things I Used To Do" you may not find anything wanting from Neal's readings of these songs at all. Still, this is a lesser record compared to earlier works like "Walking On Fire", "Bayou Blood", and the magnificent "Hoodoo Moon", and Neal's next Telarc album, "What You Got", is better and more original as well.
This one is not bad at all. It's just not among his best.
What a blues voice!.......2000-02-13
I first heard Kenny Neal on a blues channel over my DSS sattelite dish. Was making coffee when "Blues Fallin' Down Like Rain" came on. His wonderful deep growly voice has a unique bluesy passion to it. Can't say it's like anyone elses. Anyway, I was admittedly surprised and frustrated that I'd never heard of Kenny Neal before, because, anyone with a blues voice and a sound this good, has got to be a big-time blues performer. Maybe he is, but I didn't know it.
Since then, I've purchased this CD, and like it so much, I bought every other CD this guy has ever made. In my opinion, Kenny Neal is one of the brightest young blues talents out there. He's got the voice, the harp, the guitar, and a family history. Plus, the guy has played with several past blues giants, most notably Buddy Guy and Junior Wells.
Admittedly, this CD is much more tame than his past work (now that I've reviewed all of his work), but it is great stuff nonetheless.
The bottom line with Kenny Neal is, he is one of the rare blues artists that one can truly listen to for hours without tiring of his voice and sound. His mix of swamp blues with swing and deep passionate ballads is a breath of fresh blues air. Hope the guy makes it big. He has the talent!
Jamming southern blues singer........1999-02-17
I was born in the south and had never been interested in blues music until I saw Kenny Neal perform at a private party. His voice and harmonica playing was awesome.I then purchased his tape Walk On Fire and got several of my friends and co-workers hooked.Since then I have made it a point to alway's go to the New Orleans Blue's Festival where he and his family perform to record crowds along with many other great performers every year. Blue's Fallin' Like Rain is a great CD along with the rest of his music so support the great blue's musicians of Louisiana. I heard that Kenny was nominated for an academy award congradulations! A group of us would like to know about live performances scheduled for Kenny Neal and band? If u enjoy blue's you should see Kenny Neal perform his great songs.
A must have for serious blues fans.......1998-10-18
Kenny as we see him when he is in concert! No fancy horns or subtle mixing just Kenny, his brothers and down-in-the-alley blues for you. From the opening cut "Big Boss Man" where Kenny plays the lap steel to the soulful "The Things I Used to Do" the eleven cuts on this CD represent some of his finest work to date.
"Blues Fallin' Down Like Rain" lacks depth of emotion........1998-07-27
There is no question of Kenny Neal's skills, he is a fine guitar player, a distinctive harp player and his vocals are strong and confident. But his latest release, "Blues Fallin' Down Like Rain," while showcasing all his talents(and even debuting a new facet of lap steel work), lacks that essential element to all great music; depth of emotion.
I'm afraid that his choice of cover material was a harbinger of the performances on the disc. He opted for overdone material; "Big Boss Man", "My Babe", "The Things I used To Do", & "I'm Ready". Although his use of lap steel on "Big Boss Man" did lend a freshness to this one. The two bright spots on the disc lie in the new tunes, the title track and "Can't Say I Didn't Try". What sets these cuts apart from the rest is their emotional delivery, they both contain expressive vocals & tasteful, crisp guitar work, as well as, sensative backing from the other musicians on the set. On these tracks Kenny seems to be doing more than merely going through the motions, he is playing and singing with urgency and passion.
Unfortunately, on most of the disc Kenny seems to be holding back. There is a decided lack of fire in his playing and his vocals are unconvincing. This is especially disappointing to the level of his aforementioned skills. He is very capable of incendiary guitar work and passionate vocals. His past efforts for Alligator Records and his live shows attest to this. On this outing he is like a vintage muscle car that is only running on 4 or 6 cylinders, he is sputtering along when he should be tearing down the road.

It's good for your body; it's good for your soul........1999-12-08
I used to see a few of these guys in Pezband back in my college days. They were the best power pop band you'd find anywhere. I was thrilled to stumble across this album (two years after it's release) and find Mimi Betinis reunited with Cliff and Mike in Off Broadway. That chemistry is magical. This album is proof. It's brilliant! And, once again, totally overlooked by the music industry.
Power Pop at it's Finest.......1999-11-08
This local Chicago Band has been making the finest POP ROCK for over twenty years. They once again seem to be under rated by the music industry and that is too bad. Their music is better than 99% of what is available to mass audiences. It is a shame that they are relegated to oblivion once again by a music industry to ignorant to recognize monumental talent.
A disappointing comeback.......1999-05-01
I was very excited to see that Off Broadway had a new album out-about 17 years after their last one.And to top that off, they now have Mimi Betinis from the shoulda-been legendary Pezband. Unfortunately, the songs are just not there in my opinion. The production is superb, and the band sound tight and powerful, but....here's hoping they re-release Quick Turns as a stop-gap and concentrate on writing some great pop songs for their next real comeback album.

It Ain't "Stay in Time", but it's terrific!.......1999-04-29
Wow! Talk about a departure. Twenty years ago I fell in love with Off Broadway the first time I heard "Full Moon Turn My Head Around". I waited for years for that disc to be released. I bought this one the moment it hit the stores. I was shocked, then disappointed, then elated. I realized that as much as I loved the purely pop signatures of the first two Off Broadway albums, the band had grown up as had I. The album has a very serious edge to it, but also contains much of the lyrical cleverness (Time wounds all heels) of the earlier works. The guitar work by Mimi Betinis is different than that of John Ivan but fits this style better. After the third time listening, I was hooked. Cliff, when can we expect the next one? And WHERE IS QUICK TURNS?

Some Goth Goodness Remains . . ........2006-03-08
If you are a ardent fan of Queens of the Stone Age (as I am), you should give this a serious listen and suspend disbelief when you do. QOTSA's music lends itself well to strings arrangements because of the harmonizing that (I think) is one of the most interesting aspects of the band's music. It's heavy, gothic, and really subtly textured even with the driving guitar. I think that Homme's and Lanegan's vocals (sometimes) have a certain sweetness that contrasts with the music that strings evoke as an instrument - in a sense.
While some of the covers on this album are lackluster, most of them retain the same dark sound as the originals - particularly 'Mosquito Song' (which had strings in it to begin with) and 'The Sky is Falling'. The latter is, in my opinion, the best on the entire album. It's so incredibly lush and vacant at the same time. i'm not incredibly wild about the "atmospheric" guitar stylings on some of these tracks, and unlike other cover albums, some follow the original arrangements too closely. Still, I like albums that are edgy, and I think that some of this works. Buy it, if only to listen and love a couple of tracks and pass it along.
Not that bad.........2004-05-14
Being a fan that "needs it all" I just had to check it out. Its not going to make you stand up and scream AAAAAWW YEAH but its well done and the music lends itself to this interpitation. Check out the studio stuff first, but chances are that if you are looking here its because you want it all. Not terrible..but a good listen.
