Art Pepper, legendary alto sax player, is known as one of the greatest jazz artists of his generation. But he always soared far beyond the dated categories of swing and be-bop in his lyricism, technical brilliance, soulfulness, and solid, down-home raunchy sweetness. VOLUME 1 is a TWO DISC SET, a complete concert performed in Abashiri, in Northern Japan, in the snowy winter of 1981 for an audience who showered Art and the guys with uncommon enthusiasm and wild love. They responded with a performance that seems to levitate with energy. You get to be there and hear Art declare this performance of "Body and Soul" "One of the nicest things I've played in my life." Mastered by Wayne Peet, the quality is excellent. (Included: an eight page booklet with reminiscences and photos by Laurie) (moi). Nobody has it. It's an instant collectors' item. This album is the first of a series of mostly unreleased material which will include performances recorded live and in-studio throughout his career. Loaded with nothin' but "Exclusives, Unreleased & New Jointz", "WAR" is appropriately titled, with Kurupt bustin' shotz at everyone, from those you know he's got beef with to people you never knew he had beef with. This mixtape clears up a lot of things that Kurupt hasn't had the musical outlet to say since everything that's gone down since his last new album dropped a while back. Of course, this isn't a documentary, so Kurupt still does his share of blunt smokin' and skeet skeet skeetin', but if you listen closely you while hear real meaning behind some of the things he says in these new songs. If anything, this album shows that Kurupt is a force to be reckoned with in the West Coast rap game, or just the rap game period, as he does his thing without the production, guest appearances or partnership of his old Dogg Pound set or Tha Row (Death Row). Whether you are a fan, or you just want to understand what happened to the West Coast rap game in the last few years, get your hands on this mixtape, because many of the tracks on here will not be featured on Kurupt's future album when it drops. -26 TRACKS- - LIMITED EDITION-

        Listen around and you will see that this release is fire compare it to the originals or all that bootleg against the gran stuff and this is where its at. Classic material before Kurupt the kingpin went back to DPG....I doubt you will ever hear this diss material again from the man!!!

        This is a good CD to just have. There isn't exactly anything special about it because all it does is diss the whole D.P.G. camp. Former member Kurupt and just about all of his new homies takes shots at Daz, Snoop Dogg, Soopafly, and others. In one flow, Kurupt raps "Before I say another word - motherf**k Snoop, DoggHouse eat a big Dogg Pound d!ck, this Gotti you ain't gon' pimp slap sh*t" Also it appears that they diss Lloyd Banks/G-Unit on the "West Coast Fire" track in which Kurupt, Eastwood, and Stacey Adams rap over the "Lloyd Banks - On Fire" instrumental while they almost duplicate Banks' flow on the original track. All the other tracks just pretty much take shots at D.P.G. The flaw of the CD is that out of 26 tracks, maybe 14 are good or okay. All the others are absolute garbage from Switch Bladez and Ebony without Kurupt in any of it, or short little interludes that don't really count as tracks. I purchased it because I am a Dogg Pound/West Coast fan and wanted to hear the old member Kurupt and see if there were some good tracks. Kurupt's lyrics are almost all disses and aren't too bad, pretty good, but not the best in terms of well thought-out verses. But, in mixtape terms, it is good and if you're a fan of Kurupt and L.A. gangsta rap, then it is a good CD to add to your collection.

            My favorite band of the 60's but very poor sound quality makes this disc not worth the $40.00 or so I paid for it.But being a big Blue Cheer fan I have something that not many people own.If you don't own anything by this groundbreaking group,buy Vincebus Eruptum,you won't be disappointed!
