About the Artist
Verplanken's path has embraced not only aspects of English psychedelic music mainly illustrated by Soft Machine, Gong and Pink Floyd but also the American minimalist movement inspired by Terry Riley, Steve Reich and Philip Glass. In the early 70s, an unexpected concert by Terry Riley instead of the scheduled rock band Humble Pie affected him deeply and provoked a powerful impact on his musical practises. From his encounter with Daevid Allen and Kevin Ayers in the South of France when he was only 15 years old, emerges his passion for experimental compositions and dreamy atmospheres. His work reflects all these musical influences. Quite obviously, Verplanken intends to share his passion for the psychedelic and minimalist culture. Verplanken is a lonely man who composes his music like a painter whose style ranges from Fauvism to Surrealism. What makes his music so captivating is that it's more an intuitive and instinctive performance than a cerebral or intellectual one. His work is unwritten. It is thought, imagined and shaped in mind during a long time before it comes out spontaneously through improvisations. From the very beginning, it captures your attention and invites you to carry on your own introspection and question yourself about existence and purpose. The created atmosphere is a mystical atmosphere but not only: it can be disturbing as well. Finally, Verplanken's style defies all attempts of categorization. He combines several trends stemming from Free Jazz, Krautrock, Concrete Music and even Contemporary Classical Music.

Product Description
The album "Autopsy Of A Dream" is built on a series of allegoric pictures that depict with eloquence the vicissitudes of the human condition and explore a wide range of feelings and emotions which take the listener on an introspective journey.

Each composition tells a story and fits together like a completed puzzle of interlocking parts.

It opens with "Paradise" the longest track of the CD which evokes an ethereal soundscape full of peace and serenity, meditative and soothing at the same time.

The work progresses to "Goodbye Paradise" which generates poetic and nostalgic accents.

There is a noticeable change in the mood with "Lost Interlude", whereas "Sputnik Ghost Dance" brings some lightness and irony just before an unexpected and disconcerting "Out Of Order".

"Last Interlude", short and disturbing, introduces "The Prisoner" dominated by a somber and anguishing atmosphere and an absolute darkness.

The final tracks "Holy Heart" and the ephemeral "Keep Your Light On" bring both a faint glimmer of hope and optimism.

All tracks are composed, produced and performed by Verplanken.

These nine musical pieces are an excellent example of the diversity of his talent and style and show his ability to combine original textures and lush landscapes of sound.

This album also features Verplanken's multi-instrumental capabilities. He uses in a rather unconventional way both eclectic music instruments (acoustic, electric and bass guitars, mandolin, toy keyboard …) and sounds of all origins (electronic materials, noises, vocals …).

From beginning to end, Verplanken's music is music of mental images, in colour and relief, dedicated to a large audience, adventurous or not.

Autopsy Of A Dream is an introspective journey into the surrealist cognition of our human condition. An emotional exploration of sound styles including musique concrete, krautrock, and free-jazz. Verplanken embraces diverse references ranging from psychedelic electronica to the minimalist movement, citing influences from Pink Floyd and Philip Glass. Listen out for the sound design on "Last Interlude", combining gritty footsteps with micro-noise and ambient drones. The album features nine mysterious compositions based on several abstract ideas and conceptual metaphors.
