If you are a fan of classical music then you better get this set. Not only is it very cheap, 10 Discs for about 2$ per disk. Now where are you gonna find a deal like this. I actually found mine chaper, $20.00 even and the music is outstanding. If you had a very bad day and very stressed out, just put in one of these cds, lay down, dim down the lights and just relax. It really helped me out.

Still Stuck on Beethoven.......2006-08-22

I just recently started listening to classical music so I'm certainly not one to compare or critique the quality of this set. However, I do have a few comments...

My interest started in this genre of music because I'm researching my ancestry in Prussia and this is the music of those times. Never mind my ancestors were poor peasants who probably never got the chance to hear such wonderful music... when listening to these CDs, I'm taken back in time... to a royal court in Europe... to another place in time. The music is inspiring, relaxing, invigorating.

I have yet to listen to all the CD's in the set. I'm stuck on Beethoven! Wasn't he AWESOME!?!

I think this set is a wonderful introduction to classical music!!!!!

Not My Style.......2007-05-11

This CD has a lot of good songs on it, but it just too bland for our taste. We prefer Western music to sound as though genuine cowboys are singing it - not a fancy chorus!

Rockin' Western Collection.......2006-08-28

For anyone who likes movie/tv music from westerns should purchase this CD. What a wonderful collection of both film and tv with great renditions of each piece. I'm about to purchase Vol. 1 to complete my collection.

Hard to Find Great Western Themes .......2006-03-16

This CD has a number of great western themes that are not in some of the standard lists. For example it includes "The Hallejuah Trail", "Blazing Saddles", and "Giant". This CD also has what I consider the true theme of "The Comancheros". I have been disappointed with some other CDs I have purchased listing "The Comancheros" which had a song rather than this theme. Many of the tracks on this two disk CD go beyond the main theme music and are actually suites. The "Big Country" and "How the West Was Won" are just a couple of examples. It may be a little more expense than some CDs, but not bad for a two disk set. I am really happy with my purchase.

Western Music.......2005-07-29

I enjoy this CD. It has many familiar melodies. Good background for reading, nice to listen while driving. It is also the only CD I've ever found that has the great theme from the movie "Giant."

A great follow-up.......2003-08-29

This is the second collection by SilvaScreen, who are also responsible for "The Wild West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection" (see my review). And it's just as good as the first. There are themes in here that everyone will recognize ("Bonanza," "A Fistful of Dollars"), themes that may not be so familiar ("Duel in the Sun," "The Hanging Tree," the lively "Blazing Saddles"), and even themes you may not associate with Westerns at all ("The Friendly Persuasion"). And no duplication either: when this disc includes a piece from one of the same sources covered in its predecessor, it's a different piece. One great treat: the full lyrics to "Gunfight at OK Corral," which I've never heard outside the soundtrack of the movie itself. The arrangement from "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" includes not only the familiar song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head" but an overview of the music--seguing almost seamlessly into Bernstein's magnificent "The Comancheros," a rare find indeed. An expensive item, but if you love Western film music, well worth it.

Missing some music pieces.......2006-10-14

I decided to buy this CD after wanting a piece played in Spider-Man 2 SO badly. I was furious when I listened to this and didn't find it anywhere. The piece I was looking for was the piano piece during the scene when Peter hugs Aunt May when she's packing. You'd think it would be in 'Ant May Packs' but it's not. It is also missing some other great pieces from the movie. A bit of a let down...

A well Motion Picture Score........2006-02-10

This Orignal Motion Picture score was great becuase of the music that Danny Elfman used on this Cd. I love #1"Main Titles",#2,and I love the Doc Ock theme. I really wish that they would of put in the Pizza Delivery when Peter delivers the pizza's. And when Doc Ock puts his arms up for the first time. But I love this motion picture score soundtrack. It's a great score to listin to. I highly recommend it! And it's a 48 minute soundtrack and the music in the film wasn't all in the soundtrack. But Danny Elfman did an awesome job with this Orignal Motion Picture Score for Spider-Man 2!

great buy .......2006-01-20

this cd is a great buy for spider-man fans because it includes most of the music score but not all. my favorite tracks are track #1 whick the title theme, track #7 which is titled the mugging/peters turmoil peters turmoil is the first 3 minuets and is also the theme when peter says I'm spider-man no more, I also like track #9 which is titled hes back, track #14 which is titled at long last love, and finnaly the classic but annoyingly catchy track #15 which is raindrops keep fallin on my head. other themes on this cd are train/appreciation which is track #10. also there is the track titled the goblins returns which includes a little of the green goblin theme.

The son of Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry and the musical brethren of Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt (whose "Rex's Blues" is suitably covered here), James McMurtry spits out curt one-liners in a flat deadpan that dissolves in uneasy silence. Produced by Lloyd Maines, who contributes Dobro, pedal steel, and mandolin, Walk Through the Raindrops is quieter in tone than McMurtry's major label releases. The rustic arrangements make the lyrics just that much more folksy. "Tired of Walking" and "Airline Agent" are as close to topical songwriting as he's come, while a verse like "Every little bit counts/Though it may not count for much /They could be long forgotten /By the time you add `em up" is a fine example of the existentialist frontier McMurtry's so fond of probing. --Rob O'Connor

No, not his best..........2004-09-03

No, I wouldn't call this his best work. I like 'Where's You Hide The Body', 'It Had To Happen' and 'St. Mary' best. However, McMurtry is one of those artists that you buy all their works. There are no bad songs on any of his CDs. He is a five star act. He has no lapses...no filler songs...every song has a story.

Snapshots of Life.......2002-05-31

This is one excellent album. McMurtry's lyrics show us a number of different takes on life, some funny, some sad. You will relate to some or all of them. If you've ever had a knock-down drag-out with a significant other, then the lines: "tire marks on the pavement where you spun out of the drive, hound dog in the corner looking glad to be alive" will certainly ring true.

Social commentaries "Tired of Walking" and "Racing to the Red Light" also will hit a nerve with you. And, to me, "Soda & Salt" and "Airline Agent" are hilarious.

So, McMurtry can write some lyrics. He backs them up with great music. I don't know bats about music, but like the Supreme Court I know it when I see it. Two things:

1. I painted the entire inside of my house to this CD and two others of his (Wasteland, Where'd you Hide the Body) - you really can put this one and the others on and just leave them on.

2. Friends of mine come over and I have this over the outdoor speakers. Next thing I know I'm having to order anywhere from one to all five of McMurtry's CD's for them. I'm doing it again tonight. That should tell you something. I don't know if we can get him to come play a town of 600 but it would be a big turnout.

Not his best.......2001-10-24

The direction of the indie road seems to have changed. Once an artist recorded for an independent label to get the attention of the big ones and jump in the big wagon. Mcmurtry has done the opposite way coming from Columbia to Sugar Hill. He was probably not commercial enough and felt the pressure of being asked to make a more commercial records.

McMurtry is really very far away from any mainstream. He is a rocker, but mostly an acoustic one, he is not really your typical singer-songwriter but he writes all his songs. He could have made it big in the sixties, but we are in the nineties.

Walk Between The Lines is McMurtry's second cd for Sugar Hill, after three CD's for Columbia. It is clear that he is doing here what he thinks is right. His voice reminds me of Lou Reed, his music very much the American rock band, from Little Feat to R.E.M.. His lyrics are highly literate and memorable:

"He had some line but he never used them

She didn't need much talkin' too
He thought he'd died and gone to Houston
By the time the dawn burned off the dew"
(Fast As I Can)

The production is By Lloyd Maines, and very different from the work he has done with the group Son Volt. I was expecting to hear his Pedal Steel but the booklet explains that he plays it through a device that makes it sound like a special guitar. The playing is mostly done by 4-5 players giving the feeling of a rock group.This cd is surely not a folk record, more a rock album with some hints of folk. If you like Little Feat, Allman Brothers Band, late Eagles, R.E.M., you'll probably like this cd.

Released as a companion piece to the award-winning book Lullabies: An Illustrated Songbook, this hour-plus of music is a wonderful mix of stately classical themes and child-friendly vocals. The selections range from "All the Pretty Little Horses" to a global spread of lullabies drawn from classical and folk traditions. The music is spare, with Kapp on piano, Julianne Baird and Kapp's daughter Madeline on vocals, and Mela Tenenbaum on violin, viola, and occasional vocals. Most of the classical selections (from Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, Edmund Elgar, W.A. Mozart, et al.) get a straight-ahead, accomplished treatment. Lest you think the project stuffy, each of the melodies is in the one- to two-minute range, which effectively mandates a stronger sense of flow than most children's collections. Kapp, who managed to create a visual and poetic flow in the Lullabies book, keeps things nicely in a groove here, knowing enough to segue into silly tracks about halfway through the CD to provide a wider emotional range. I love this CD. It's very well-done, and the approach is different than most children's CDs - very refined, yet soothing. I don't get tired of listening to it the way I do others -- which is important when trying to get a little one to sleep! I highly recommend it and the companion book.

Simple and sweet songs.......2006-04-02

With just piano, violin and vocals, this is a simple and heartfelt album. Ms. Baird's voice conveys the full emotions that a mother feels for her new baby with clean and open singing. The first track in particular, "All Through The Night," still makes me teary. I played this in the hospital when my son was born, and we use it as part of our wind-down ritual. I do agree that some of the songs are a little upbeat for bedtime. We just skip those in the evening (using iTunes).

Marvellous cd, enchanting music.......2005-10-18

Our whole family loves this cd. I am continually charmed and refreshed by the subtlety, taste and musicianship that has gone into these arrangements of well- and lesser-known gems. Apart from the joy of the simple yet perfect chordal progressions, listen to the warm, caressing tone imparted by the low bass notes in the piano in many of the tracks. The pace is so wonderfully leisurely, there is time to savour each song or piece, and yet each lasts only two or three minutes. The three diverse yet complementary singers, each with a tender and gentle presence suiting the subject matter, give a sense of a 19th century family musical evening. Magical.

Good if you want to sing from the book but can't read music.......2004-02-10

I bought this solely because I have the book and wanted to sing the lullabies to my kids, but I can't read music. For this purpose it is fine. The songs are not in the same order as in the book but I can deal. As a stand-alone lullaby CD I wouldn't really recommend it--the songs are not sung in a soothing manner, there's lots of variety in tempo and volume, some are even sung up-beat. The voices are not pitched high enough for babies either. That being said, I am back on Amazon today to buy it for my sister who is due any day now with her 3rd kid--we both like to sing and have the book, and songs (in book or music form) are a great present that the baby won't grow out of for a long time, and helps you bond with your little one too.

Didn't like the voice........2002-12-11

I bought this cd to go with the book and it is very frustrating because the songs on this cd are not even in the same order as the book. The singing voice fluctuates too much, it will be really soft and then it gets really high pitch. And if you have the volume set at a lower level for some songs then you can't hear other songs. I think there are better cds to buy than this one.

not enough Galway.......2003-10-02

There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.

Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03

I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

I grew up listening to this album. The music is timeless and Andy's voice is at it's best. It fills my soul, lifts my spirits, and takes me back to my childhood in all ways that are good. Receiving this cd from Amazon was like reuniting old friends. Mmm...mmm...good.

Great CD!!.......2004-04-29

I've recently bought this CD off of Amazon.com a while back. The music on this Andy Williams CD is excellent. I've admire Andy's sweet voice for about 3 years. What is so amazing is that Andy re-records these hits like Bridge Over Troubled Water and turns them into his own arrangement. One of my favorite songs on this CD is "Long Time Blues". If you also admire the voice of Andy Williams, then this is the CD for you.

In 1969 Andy Williams was in the midst of a transistion. He turned 40 that year and he was back on NBC with a new show. No longer content to be the tuxedo or sweater clad champion of easy listening, in 1969 a new Andy Williams emerged. THis was a newer, cooler, and hipper ANDY. Take a listen at these two classic albums, and get to know a newer view of Andy Williams--a really cool view indeed.

Jeff Barry & Ellie Greenwich worked from NYC's Brill Building, as did many other young early-1960s songwriters such as Neil Sedaka, Gerry Goffin & Carole King, Jackie De Shannon, Boyce & Hart, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Neil Diamond . . .

For my money, Barry & Greenwich wrote the best girl group songs of the era, not the least of which is The Shangri-Las' monster hit, "Leader Of The Pack". And who could forget Jeff Barry's ode to rock & roll, "Who Put The Bomp"? They just don't write 'em like that anymore.

Jeff & Ellie recorded demos of the songs they would shop to prospective artists, as The Raindrops. These were full (though demo-quality) recordings, complete with drums, bass, piano, and very tasty vocal arrangements. The fact that these are demo recordings doesn't mean the sound is muddy, or the performances are uninspired. FAR from it. Some of these demos were actually released - and charted! "Not Too Young To Get Married" (which they co-wrote with Phil Spector, and landed with Darlene Love) is a powerhouse of a recording, as is their rendition of Roy Hamilton's "Don't Let Go". It's a revelation to discover The Crystals' "Da Doo Ron Ron" is a carbon copy of The Raindrops' recording - right down to the sax solo. The standout, among many gems, has got to be 1964's "Let's Go Together". This one rates high on my list of best girl group songs of the '60s. It's infectious dancebeat would have made it a club favorite in the 1980s, had Blondie gotten hold of it.

As a longtime fan of the girl group genre, I'd have to say that I don't find a bum song in the 20 that make up The Raindrops CD - not a bad track record. Ellie Greenwich proves herself to be as good a vocalist as many of the artists she wrote for. The chick can SING! So, should you buy The Raindrops CD? I for one, think you'll dig it the most!

Greenwich and Barry - Great sounds from the Spectorian era!.......2000-02-28

Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry teams up together to make simple, yet outstanding little 'pop nuggets'. Some of these songs were later recorded with Phil Spector in a more orchestrated and fully developed way (i.e. 'Not Too Young To Get Married'), but here they are still in a raw and sometimes more expressive form. It is interesting to note some old blues roots in 'Don't Let Go', and even a kind of pre-disco song, reminiscent of 'Do You Wanna Dance', called 'Let's Go Together'. All in all, I give it four stars - for retaining its freshness and energy through the years. Thank you Ellie and Jeff!

The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra never ceased to amaze me with their vibrant and versatility in intrepreting the instrumental versions of the classics..I like the classic Clint Eastwood western "fistful of dollars"...melodic sounds of "never on sunday" and don't forget the really western classics of them all.."high noon" (do not forsake me)...very very nice.buy one today.
