Product Description
One of the most rewarding pleasures in music is the gleefully selfish sensation of having your very own private band. I'm not talking about a band where you actually play music yourself (although that certainly has its advantages). I'm referring to the conspiratorial glee of finding a fantastic group that has everything you like about music all rolled into one package, but that nobody else knows about. Peng Records. 2005.

Album Description

Songs For The Inner Child is a collection of chants and lullabies, both traditional and contemporary, sung with the gentle voice of a loving mother. The songs are healing and soothing for listeners of all ages, carrying powerful messages of affirmation and comfort. Over 200,000 copies have been sold worldwide.

With Shaina Noll on lead and harmony vocals, New Age keyboard artist Jim Oliver produced and contributed instrumentally to many of the tracks. Rusty Crutcher, best known for his "Sacred Sites" series of albums, plays saxophone on "Deep Peace". Shaina's husband, Richard, contributes harmony vocals and recorder tracks.

Songwriters Cris Williamson, Libby Roderick, Susan McCullen and Bill Douglas are among those whose songs are featured on the album along with Shaina's composition, "Peace Be With You".

Lyrics include:

"How could anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful...how could anyone ever tell you you were less than whole...how could anyone fail to notice that your loving is a miracle...how deeply you're connected to my soul..."

"You can relax now...you are the child of God, and that will never change"

"Peace be with you, oh my dear one...peace be with you, precious child...angels hover all about you, they protect you, night and day...angels over all about you, they will guide you on your way..."

"Deep peace of the running wave to you, deep peace of the flowing air to you, deep peace of the gentle night to you, moon and stars pour their healing light on you..."

5 out of 5 stars How did you know Shaina?.......2007-05-12

I was injured a year ago and have had two surgeries and months of physical therapy. As well as physical healing, I have been working on spiritual enlightenment. This CD spoke to me immediately and it was as though I knew the words before she even spoke them. I use the music as an affirmation of who I am, where I have been, and where I am going. One of her lovely songs simply states " How can anyone ever tell you you were anything less than beautiful?" What a beautiful affirmation of your value and worth as a precious child of our Creator. Awesome!

5 out of 5 stars Song For the Inner Child.......2007-04-02

If your self-image has taken a hit lately or if your life has been full of stress lately, this album of beautiful, soothing uplifting music was meant for you. It will refresh you and validate you.

5 out of 5 stars Comforting, Healing.......2007-03-09

I first heard the first song on this CD in a psychology class. A number of us sat there and wept.

I use this CD for myself and with clients in the healing work I do. I find it comforting in hard times, the things my Inner Child needed to hear when she was young, but didn't.

I am grateful this CD exists.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderfully healing message.......2007-01-10

This beautiful CD is ideal both for children and adults who will benefit from its soothing message of their specialness. I especially recommend it for those who have experienced a difficult or painful childhood and are in need of healing. Let Shaina Noll's lovely voice and the beautiful lyrics of these songs sink into your psyche. She sings a message we all need to hear and embrace.

5 out of 5 stars Affirmations for the soul.......2006-11-12

The words to these songs could be imagined as coming from a precious parent, from a trusted friend who has boundaries, or from ones Higher Power. The mellow music and the affirming words reached my soul.

4 out of 5 stars Track-wise, original release is better than re-issue.......2007-04-20

I remember being disappointed when this album first appeared on vinyl. I adored (still do) the post-Roy Wood / pre-Discovery albums, and really missed Jeff Lynn's complex and full-bodied orchestral and choral arrangements, through which the group had (after Wood's departure) truly fulfilled its name, "The Electric Light Orchestra." When they officially changed their name to "ELO" upon the release of Discovery, it signified a dramatic change in the group's approach to popular music.

Since the original release of Secret Message, however, the album has grown on me and I now agree wholeheartedly with those who have said that this is one very good, very underrated album - with the caveat that I am referring to the original album as first issued on vinyl and CD, not the re-issued version. There is not a bad song on the original release - most are at least very good, and a couple are almost on par with the group's best work. Some, like Bluebird, Take Me On And On , and Letter From Spain, harken back to the deeply emotional quality of some of Lynn's earlier song writing. All of them are rich in texture. The guitar work on Take Me On And On, for instance, is crisp and bluesy; and Train Of Gold reveals new layers of sound upon repeated listening. Other reviewers have complained that Rock 'N' Roll Is King is ultra-poppy and rockabillyesque. All true, but the song nonetheless is exactly what it strives to be. I think it still fits in stylistically with the rest of the album (partly due to the excellent guitar work, which characterizes much of Secret Messages); and, as the last track on the original release, Rock 'N' Roll Is King provides a nice finale.

Having said all of this, the re-issue of Secret Messages is ruined by the insertion of Time After Time, which, stylistically, is completely out of place in the middle of the album, and breaks up the otherwise perfect mix and progression of music. More detrimental, though, is the simple fact that Time After Time is one of the worst songs Jeff Lynn and company every produced. The bonus tracks on the re-issue also suffer for the same reasons. All of the these extra songs sound a lot like the sub-par tracks that later appeared on the final ELO album (before Zoom), Balance of Power. For reasons I myself don't understand, other Amazoners have given Balance of Power rave reviews, so I guess folks who like that album will like the extras on the Secret Messages re-issue. Those who like the original version of Secret Messages and agree that BoP is a weak album may be disappointed and should perhaps stick with the first Messages release. The 30 second track samples on Amazon will be enough to help you decide, so give them a listen before purchasing. If you don't like the extra tracks on the re-issue you'll be able to find the original Secret Messages release for sale someplace on the Web, if not on Amazon.

3 out of 5 stars I love ELO, BUT..........2007-01-31

SECRET MESSAGES has a great concept to it but unfortunately it ends being a very average album at best. While self titled opening song starts off promising, it just ends up going nowhere. Maybe the chorus should've been up a little bit , instead it just overshadowed by the music. It could've been a good song. And sorry to say LETTER FROM SPAIN is just plain dull. I love ELO and am huge fan, they are actually one of my favorite groups and I usually expect to hear really good albums from them. Maybe that's just it, maybe I expected too much when going into this one. I dunno. Lynne doesn't really seem all that inthused on this album, with exception of some songs that are good, catchy, and have original melodic sound that is ELO, but of course it just my opinion. After all, this album does get a little better with each listen. I gave this album 3 stars but I feel it is more of a 2 1/2, but maybe that would be too harsh. After all it's not a bad album, but it's not all that great or original either. Who knows, maybe it will keep growing on me more and more.
Highlights: LOSER GONE WILD, STRANGER

5 out of 5 stars "SECRET MESSAGES" SPEAKS VOLUMES OF TECHNO, POP AND ROCK , AN UNDER APPRECIATED ELO GEM.............2007-01-26

A superb 1983 ELO release. "Secret Messages" combines techno, pop and rock in a brilliant musical forum. From "Secret Messages" to "Four Little Diamonds" to "Stranger" this cd rocks. There is no filler songs on "Secret Messages" as every track speaks volumes of vibrant raucous, romantic harmony. "Secret Messages" is definitly an under appreciated gem of the 1980s. "Secret Messages" is a smooth listen, written by Jeff Lynn, one of Britians all time song writers. A nice sounding, remastered cd with fine linear notes, song lyrics and three previously unreleased tracks. Highly recommended listening, you should own this under appreciated 1983 gem.....................

3 out of 5 stars Not a ELO Classic.......2006-03-19

As a bit of a hardcore EOL fan I have a few grumbles about this album. Back in the days when titles such as "Discovery" "Out of the Blue" and other great ELO albums were around it was really hard ti imagine then just what the 80s would (or even could) do to a band such as this. Like scores of groups around at the time (especially those who made the seventies the seventies) their was a sudden interest with keyboard based music. This would have been ok in its self but its here we come across the first problem. I would guess that within 5 years of this albums released it would have sounded dated. Technology jusr simply ran far to fast, and scores of albums such as this suffered as a result. This ablum is surrounded with the "jingle, jangle" of out of date keyboards and electronic drums. If you gonna have a early "80s" night then you will not get better than this. A couple of the songs are ok but you will find a few re worked sounding items too. Take my advice. If you really want to hear ELO then buy something from the seventies to compare this album and I think you will agree : a great album from a group whose time had been.

5 out of 5 stars Double album revealed! ELO's best?.......2006-02-20

This album is simply outstanding, one of ELO's 3 very best (along with "A New World Record" and "Out of the Blue"). I don't normally fall in love with albums upon first listen, needing a little time to get into and used to them - but "Secret Messages" blew me away with each highly diverse and multi-layered and multi-faceted cut the very first time heard back in 1983.

Its predescessor album "Time" was clever as heck but somewhat self-conscious as a concept album to my ears, so "Secret Messages" felt like an incredible return to classic ELO form. The first four songs in particular are mindblowing - what a way to start a new world record!

Here's the track list of the original unreleased double album:

Side A
1. Secret Messages
2. Loser Gone Wild
3. Bluebird
4. Take Me On And On

Side B
5. Stranger
6. No Way Out
7. Beatles Forever
8. Letter From Spain
9. Danger Ahead

Side C
10. Four Little Diamonds
11. Train Of Gold
12. Endless Lies
13. Buildings Have Eyes
14. Rock 'n' Roll Is King

Side D
15. Mandalay
16. Time After Time
17. After All
18. Hello My Old Friend

All these songs are on the remastered version except for "Buildings Have Eyes", "Mandalay", "Hello My Old Friend" (these three on "Afterglow"), and the almost impossible-to-find tribute "Beatles Forever" (whose lyrics can be found at http://hjem.get2net.dk/10538overture/Tekster/ELO/BEATLES%20FOREVER.htm). So you can patch together something close to the original unreleased album using iTunes, which is well worth the trouble.

Here are some thought-provoking excerpted "secret" comments from Paul F. Johnson that only appear on the Amazon review of the unremastered CD: "Jeff Lynne solely became ELO at this point and he also found the sweet spot as a producer and singer. ... The Willburys sound was born in this album. I am still not sure how he got that overly processed-yet-dry sound that is the Jeff Lynne trademark, but it really seems to have begun with 'Secret Messages.' ... Rick Rubin and Jeff Lynne have done as much for the sound of what we hear today as anyone, and this CD is a good source for understanding why."

Also on this Amazon review thread, Ernie Clark misguidedly rates only 1 star (!#?!@*!) with the explanation that "I would be giving this remastered version of ELO's classic 'Secret Messages' cd five stars if it weren't for the fact that it's missing the final 33 second outro that was on the original cd and vinyl album. How could Jeff Lynne leave out this part of the cd?" I don't know what to say about Ernie's CD, but that spooky 33 second outro is DEFINITELY on the remastered CD that I bought. So how about restoring those missing 4 stars?!?

Somewhere between the Strokes and the Artic Monkeys, catchy tunes, good riffs, and while the lyrics aren't rewriting the books, they work well with what they're working with. Probably not 5 stars, but maybe a 9 out of 10, and whose not to love a band that puts out a song called "When Tom Cruise Cries" (is this a 'Magnolia' reference?). Recommended.

Gil Scott Heron is one of the most influential black music artists of his generation. Like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Curtis Mayfield his music transgresses all music boundaries, and he is heralded in rock as in soul and jazz circles. Along with his partner and lyricist Brian Jackson, Gil wrote and recorded some of the most memorable songs of the 70's always with poignant lyrics. 'The Bottle' has been a club favourite since its release in 1973, 'Johannesburg' predicted the unrest in South Africa two years before Soweto, 'Its Your World' has been in demand for past ten years or so. This album puts together 15 of the best and most in demand of their recordings from 1973 to 1980, and is the first collection covering that period for 15 years. Many of the tracks have not appeared on CD since then and some are making their first appearance on CD. Soul Brother Records. 2005.

5 out of 5 stars long awaited.......2007-06-10

this is the grandfather of rap. i always look forward to any release from Gil Scott-Heron. this is one extremely talented genius! i already own most of this stuff either on cd or vinyl. he is highly recommended. PLEASE RE-RELEASE BRIDGES!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection..........2005-11-11

I have purchased every Gil Scott-Heron disc I can get my hands on, and although the price of this is steep for a single disc, this one is well worth getting. This anthology contains songs from Gil's long out of print albums "Bridges", "Secrets", and "1980" which were never released on CD. In fact, only six of the songs on this 15 song anthology are available on other Cd's; the other nine are not available anywhere else. I had never heard Gil's work from the 1977-1980 period before and am really glad that some of it is finally available as it is no less important than the rest of his work as it marked the final years of his collaboration with Brian Jackson (who also contributed some of the liner notes for this CD). This collection serves as a great introduction to their work, although I would recommend getting some of Gil's pre-1973 music also such as "Pieces of A Man" or the collection "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised". To me Gil Scott-Heron stands as one of the most important artists of the past thirty years and he remains incredibly underrated. I have never heard anyone blend the blues, funk, R&B, and jazz as seamlessly as Gil Scott-Heron did. If you haven't heard him before or are a fan, this collection is highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful CD for toddlers and up.......2006-06-02

My three year old son loves this CD and listens over and over. We heard Itchie Itchie Ow one morning and he was singing it that afternoon and I knew we had to get the CD. My husband and I enjoy her voice as well, soft, calming and melodious - easy tunes to remember and about things to which kids can relate. She is somewhat similar to Laurie Berkner but Katherine's songs seem to have more relevance, i.e., kids understand muscles and bones and what itchies and owies are. I agree with the other reviewers; you will be listening several times a day so good thing adults enjoy as well!!

5 out of 5 stars awesome cd!.......2006-05-10

My children and I saw Katherine Dines at our library. She is wonderful! We bought two cd's and this is our favorite! Myself my children and all the kids in the neighborhood love her cd's (3-10yr olds). They always ask for it in the car. Muscle and Bones and Hey Sam are hands down the favorites of this cd. I really enjoy listening myself. You won't be disapointed with this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Katherine Dines is the best!.......2000-09-25

My 2-year-old son has had this CD since he was 10 months old, and he loves it! If Mama doesn't play "Sam" (his name for it) at least once a day, she's in trouble! The songs are easy to learn and remember, the tunes are memorable and--great for this adult who has to listen to it over and over--enjoyable! Dines has a real gift for entertaining children as well as educating, and this collection is one of her best.

5 out of 5 stars B5 forever........2007-01-05

The music was one of the most important elements in making this series one of the greats of SciFi. Franke had it down perfect!

3 out of 5 stars not bad, but not what I expected.......2005-12-12

Having listened to all three compilation CDs (Babylon 5, messages from Earth and Best of Babylon 5), I find this one to be my least favorite. The 'Best of B-5' cd I think gives one a better taste of the episodic music and themes, while this one feels disconnected and almost random, considering the titles used for the suite tracks. I did not get a feel for any season's theme from listening to these tracks.

5 out of 5 stars Epic Music Reaching Its Epic Potential.......2003-03-25

The most fantastic thing about Babylon 5 is its epic scope. The show was already planned out, and then some, for its five year run (and multiple TV movies) and though the 5th year music is somewhat missing on this CD (the final track, Voices of Authority, foreshadows the future opening title theme of Season 5), this collection of 8 tracks provides the listener with a musical explanation of the series. The 1st track, Main Title 1st Season (extended), gives us a sense of adventure; the first steps into a journey that will take us amazing places. It gives us the feeling of alien voices calling out from far away with its synthesized voices...but it also has a powerful "hero" tune giving Babylon 5 a heroic nature (that would be returned in Track 7) The second track, Messages From Earth, gives us clips from the episodes where Sheridan takes control and beats out the rebels going against him and Babylon 5. It has sounds of "oh no, we are gonna blow up" and then redemption music to close the track out confirming victory for the Babylon 5 heroes. The Main Title for the second season (Track 3) is mysterious...giving us a hint that "shadows" (no pun intended) will eventually show their face. The fourth track, Z'Ha'Dum is violent and bombastic, much like the violent turmoil that happens in the third season. The third season has many up and downs and the tone makes sense. The fifth track carries on Z'Ha'Dum's theme with very loud drum blasts and violent tones. The sixth track is the most haunting, starting out very slow and then pumping with energy and then ending with a creepy, what seems like, electronic piano, emphasizing the journey is far from over. It is by far the most beautiful on the CD and haunting. The wild guitars, strange clangs, and odd sounds are just a few of the sounds on this track. The seventh track, the Main Title for the 4th season, is both upbeat and disastrous (in tone, not composition...it is brilliantly composed) making us feel the triumph of Babylon 5 of President Clark and the loss of friends and gain of power. It is a great way to represent the sad and joyous 4th year. The final track foreshadows the 5th Season Main Title theme that would come after this soundtrack was produced. It is perhaps the second best track, being epic in scale (the first few minutes are amazing) and its abrupt ending making you want more...just like the show. Fortunately the 5th season was just around the corner. Christopher Franke, formerly of Tangerine Dream provides synthesized beauty, rocking beats, and epic tones and no one better would fit the same themes Babylon 5, the show, represented in story and character.

3 out of 5 stars Exhausting.......2002-05-02

"Messages From Earth" is a second volume of the "compilation" series with music from the Babylon 5 TV series, containing sound tracks from 1995-1997 episodes, fused together and rerecorded. Although less differentiated than its predecessor, "Babylon 5" released in 1995, it is still packed full with themes, tunes and musical snapshots to successfully entertain (and tire) the listener. I must say though that this particular release is the weakest in the whole series. The heavy orchestration is a tad too aggressive, offerring little or no contrapunct, making the listening experience quite exhausting, as was the case with one of the previous releases by Christopher Franke, "Universal Soldier". "Messages From Earth" is divided into four sections, each opening with a shorter 'Season Main Title', followed by a longer piece fused from extremely short pieces that are featured on the episodic CDs available separately. The album totals in 58 minutes, representing supposedly the best music from the corresponding years. That fact alone prevented me from buying the episodic CDs from that era, simply because while I generally like that type of music, and I am fond of Franke's experimentation efforts, "Messages From Earth" simply leaves one way too cold to fret over. Fortunately, the three "compilation" CDs that followed brought a very welcome change, and you I strongly advise "Babylon 5: In the Beginning" over this release.

5 out of 5 stars Not just for die-hard fanatics.......2001-08-02

Yes, I am a die-hard fanatic. Yes, the music is what got me hooked on the show (c'mon, it wasn't the acting). Yes, the show is a fantastic accomplishment and makes all other television pale by comparison (but that's another story). No, this album is not just for people like me. Heavy metal fans, audiophiles, and even my classical-music-is-the-only-type-worth-hearing Dad all enjoyed listening to this collection. Four of the eight tracks are the 1.5 minute opening sequences from the first four seasons of B5. It's a shame the 5th season opening didn't make it on there, but when the album was released, it didn't look like there was going to be a fifth season (Thank whichever higher power you'd like for TNT). On that note, the other notable omission is the powerful melody from the last ever episode, Sleeping in the Light. But enough of that, for fans of the show, these four sequences are fun but you've definitely heard them before. It's the remaining four tracks (each about 13 minutes) that makes the album worth 5 stars. Unlike the suites of the first album (also good), these play like one or two movement pieces, not betraying their origins as collected snippets from the TV episodes. Unlike most TV themes, which are simple melodies, the power of the Berlin Film Harmonic (geddit?) electronic orchestra is what sets this album apart from almost everything else. The bass and mid-range are gripping, particularly about 6.5 minutes through track 2, while the top end is quite thrilling. You can't say that about Mission Impossible. In short, Christopher Franke has mixed Shostakovich with an 80's emphasis on electronica, but has executed it with some very nice equipment and recorded it so that it's even worth playing on mid-high end audio equipment. How do you know if you're going to like it before you buy it? If you heard any of the credits on the TV show; if you like Hans Zimmer but find his recordings low quality, repetitive and boasting a limited range; if you want to give your speakers a workout; if you like classical music but can't give up your Ultravox (no, really, it's much better than Ultravox); if you want a soundtrack worthy of the epic space-opera saga: Babylon 5.

4 out of 5 stars Fine, dynamite first effort from the Boys.......2005-11-07

I still remember the Boys' first album. They were a very young group with the members being 11, 12 or so, but they had a dynamite album in 1988. Strong numbers such as the ultra funky Dial My Heart dominate this album. For LA and Babyface to produce a fun, melodic first effort for the Boys is an understatement, and it is still one of their best hit records. The rest of the album follows the similar boy meets girl themes and young love, yet the group delivers on every song. I still love Sunshine. Although their later albums sold well, they could not match with the talent that is displayed on this album.
Brilliant teen pop long before,NKOTB, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC took over.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2005-09-19

I was only 8 or 9 when The Boys came onto the scene. Me being a typical girl thought they were the cutest things. I'm sure I'm not the only one who just knew Hakeem and Khiry were the finest ones out of the group. I played this cassette (at the time I didn't know anything about CD's), over and over and over again until I let someone borrow it and I never got it back until 9 years ago I found the cassette in a record store and I bought it along with the other two albums they had out. This album is a classic. You can't get any better than "Dial my heart", Be My girl", and "Sunshine".

4 out of 5 stars An Adolescent Treat!.......2004-02-10

Coming out of Motown's New Wave Of Talent camp, the Boys were destined to be the latter day Jackson 5. While they never lived up to the expectations, the closest they came to matching the jacksons was on their impressive debut.

They reeled off two hit singles ("Dial My Heart", "Lucky Charm"), and also produced an obscure hit in "A Little Romance". All three singles favored the laface sound, light new jack pop that appealed to the urban as well as popular audiences. Other highlights include the funky "Personality", energetic "Let's Dance", and aggressive "Be My Girl".

For whatever reason, the Boys' popularity started to falter after the laface team parted with Motown. That makes this release all the more momentous. In other words, while Messages From The Boys is not an startling debut, it is worth listening to for the preteen/adolescent of the '80s and essential for any fan of new jack.

Amazon.com essential recording

At their best, War walked a line between bleak evocations of inner-city life seen from their California vantage point ("The World Is a Ghetto," "Me and Baby Brother") and delightful affirmations that came complete with winking humor ("The Cisco Kid," "Why Can't We Be Friends?"). All those songs and more fill Grooves & Messages's first disc; the second collects remixes of some of the classics, both strikingly effective (Soundprops' mellow take on "Tobacco Road") and less so (the Ganja Kru's by-the-numbers drum & bass "Low Rider"). Still, those with an ear for both old- and new-school sounds who haven't invested in a War CD may find this two-for-the-price-of-one package irresistible. --Rickey Wright

5 out of 5 stars War...proves themselves to be most worthy Funksters.......2004-02-03

One of the 70's most Influential funk acts, with the impressively consistant catalogue of acknowledged hits, that even to this day, are a marvel in soul-laden grooves than have found their unique music, sampled relentlessly into the dance music scene, (although prominently in the `house' & `R&b' music fields). "Slippin' into Darkness" is a widely sampled track, and its easy to see why..slickly produced, impeccably sung, and toe-tappingly funky, and much of what on this album sticks to that template, of keeping the listeners attention for the use of P-funk, soaring Choruses (sometimes sung by several members in a upwardly spiralling crescendo), also providing significant firepower in getting their funk itinerary across, are "The World Is a Ghetto", "Low Rider" (which is such a excellent track, it's frequently used in films, has been used in a TV. commercial & been cover-versioned by metallers "Korn") & "Why Can't We Be Friends?"......a case of Soul-funkers on a mission to convert the uninformed???...Mission accomplished!!!

3 out of 5 stars Great music, but a disappointing product.......2001-11-12

I bought this CD partly on the strength of the Rough Guide review that described it as a compilation of "full-length" versions. Although it's a very well-chosen collection of songs, it's not true that all the tracks are full-length: at least two definitely aren't. I'm speaking of "Spill the Wine" (in which the second verse is completely omitted) and "The World Is a Ghetto" (which is nowhere near the length of the original album version). It's especially a shame because it's such a great-looking package and there is surely plenty of room on a two-disc set for the full-length versions.

5 out of 5 stars The flyest........2000-03-06

This CD is a plus for many reasons; I'd give it more than 5 stars if possible. First of all, it contains most of WAR's best known and best loved hits on the first CD. The second CD, which is especially attractive for dance fans like me, consists of some good remixes of really great WAR songs. Second of all, the price is more than reasonable--almost like getting 2 CDs for the price of one. WAR is a very underrated band, and they have a wide range of styles and sounds, probably due to the fact that they were a true multi-culti clique. They are right up there with Earth, Wind, & Fire, the Isley Brothers, and any of the various incarnations of George Clinton's groups as far as funk, funk-soul, and or funk-rock with something that most acts don't have today: actual instruments (not computers). This set has classic dusties made just right for cruising, and even the original, non-remixed versions are tight for moving. Wanna be a TRUE big tymer? Grab this CD; you will not be disappointed. Everyone can learn something from this CD, even "current" artists with their manufactured, sample-heavy, test-rabbit sounds. Add it to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars It's hard not to like this cd.......1999-10-19

War never received the radio airtime that it probably deserved, and that is why this cd is so great to hear. Like EW&F, War has been overlooked as a great group...fortunately, we're reminded of their exceptional talents with songs like "Low Rider", "Cisco Kid" and "East L.A"...an all-time favorite that was largely ignored by the disc jokeys (pun intended.) For crusin and having fun, buy this album. You won't be disappointed with anything but the remix cd; that is a useless production
