good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27

We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.

Packs into 5 CD's a sampling of Broadway tunes from the 20's thru (almost) today, mostly from original cast recordings. Includes not just well-known hits, but also some lesser-known gems. Sound quality is first rate, booklet is informative too. Have given this as a gift to several friends with rave reviews.

Top Shelf.......2007-01-04

This is THE definitive collection of Broadway hits. I have other collections, and none of them measure up. A great deal of care was obviously taken in compiling and presenting this box set. It covers a lot of ground, starting with some long-forgotten but still very enjoyable hits from the days of yore, and finishing with present-day favorites. To the best of my knowledge, the recordings are by those who made them famous. You won't be disappointed.

If you are a fan of the Broadway Musicals, this is a collection that you should purchase. Since I got the 5 disc set I've enjoyed listening to it. The majority of the songs are done by the original singers. The collection is priceless considering that you will have over 100 songs from popular musicals since the beginning of Broadway

Great 1980s American "Roots" Rock!.......2007-01-17

I remember discovering The Elvis Brothers in 83' during freshmen year of college. They were part of the American Roots Rock/Rockabilly movement that rode in at the height of the New Wave era, along with other talents such as Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and The Stray Cats. Although not as popular, they still made some catchy, well-crafted, concise power pop on their debut album. Standouts include the infectious single "Hey Tina", "I Know You Shake It" and "Hidden in a Heartbeat.

The second album, Adventure Time, on this two-fer CD is a pretty good effort, although the production values are much slicker than Movin' Up, and doesn't feel as spontaneous. (Unfortunately, indicative of where a lot of once great pop music was heading by the mid 80s.)

The price is steep, but its great to have the album that I once had on LP and it was also somewhat surreal to buy the album, new, directly from Brad Elvis (The band's drummer), through Amazon Market Place!

Never the less its a great stroll down memory lane to a time when pop, rock, new wave, ska, rockabilly and other music was fresh and new and something called "MTV" seemed so exciting and promising.....

The Elvis Brothers were a power pop trio (with a hint of rockabilly and roots rock) comprised of Rob Elvis (guitar, vocals), Graham Elvis (bass, vocals) and Brad Elvis (drums). Formed in the early '80s in Chicago, the band released a pair of albums for the Portrait label (Movin' Up (1983) and Adventure Time (1985) that were well-crafted pop, highly regarded in power pop circles. The Brothers were dropped from Portrait in the mid-'80s after some personnel changes at the label left them without support. The original line-up returned in 1992 with the limited edition Now Dig This CD for the independent Recession label. Sony/Recession reissued the first two albums on this 1995 CD, which is an essential addition to any power pop collection.
