So there's this pop singer... you may have heard of her? Madonna, she's called, and the word is that she's basically all image; she went through a put-your-hands-all-over-my-body phase, then she got spiritual, and then she started wearing cowboy hats. Between all the gossip columns and photo shoots, though, she's left an unmatched trail of devastatingly wonderful singles--roaring dance records, tender ballads, and a curious combination of the two that is her personal specialty ("Secret" and "Ray of Light"). How many artists' best-of-the-second-decade collections crowd out legitimate hits? ("American Pie," anyone? "This Used to Be My Playground"?) Unlike 1990's Immaculate Collection, GHV2 doesn't have any new material; "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," from Evita, and the glorious '60s pastiche "Beautiful Stranger" are the only songs that haven't appeared on a Madonna album before. But it compresses her past 10 years worth of records into an hour of one peak after another. --Douglas Wolk

The best of the best.......2007-07-03
If you want the 90's hits of madonna you must have this in your own collection. I love it
Completes the greatest hits collection.......2007-05-15
if you only want 2 of Madonna's cd's, get this and the immaculate collection and you will then have all of the best known hits on those cd's.
Not so great for Madonna's fans.......2007-02-28
First of all, I love this CD. It is a great collection for Madonna's 1990-2000's career.
However, I was a bit disappointed since it adds nothing special. That is there are no new songs, or special mix.
If you are looking for Madonna's hit songs in one CD, this is a great
album. However, if you are huge fan of Madonna and already having all the CDs of her, there is really nothing special about this CD.
Moreover, many great songs are not included.
Madonna GHV2.......2007-02-16
This cd is really very good.
The only down sides are that some of her songs from this period are missing, some edited, and no new songs were added.
Otherwise, it is fantastic,a great buy, and a must have for any Madonna fan.
Impressive.
I'm feelin these.......2006-11-18
I won't say to everybody this greatest hits is highly recommended. Being that I never heard all of her albums, so a true fan may feel like some songs is missin'. However for me, who is just really startin to seriously get into pop is somewhat satisfied with these and this is a 5 star collection to me. Some of the tracks I love, a couple I don't like at all and the rest I just like.
My favorite ones are in order;
Erotica
Ray of Light
Beautiful Stranger
The power of goodbye
Deeper and Deeper
The prodution is excellent and I love the vocals. If your new to Madonna, my opinion would be to start here. But a true fan can give me lessons.

Old School Review.......2007-01-17
This CD and the music chosen for it has brought back many memories of those fun times. The beat, rhythm and vocals are great. I just feel like dancing every time I play this CD.
You have got to be kidding.......2006-09-23
I get so tired of seeing the same songs put on Old school CD's. All they know is Maze "Before I let go" and the Isley Brother's "Between the Sheet", these artist have other hit songs that are worthy of Old School type CD's. If I see "More Bounce to the Ounce" on another CD, I am going to scream.
classic jams.......2006-08-22
This is a great CD. Highly recommend it to those who danced in the 80's.

Amazon.com's Best of 2000
Mama Madonna returned from the spiritual world and got her groove thing goin' once again for Music. Flanked by Ray of Light's tried-and-true producer William Orbit and a French newcomer, DJ and producer Mirwais, Madonna pours her heart out on the dancefloor, combining self-revealing lyrics with retro-electro beats. Reinventing herself as an urban cowgirl pimpette, Madonna once again sets the standard for mainstream pop, which will probably only be topped by her next release. --Beth Massa
Amazon.com essential recording
Madonna's never really been a musical trendsetter; she's a trend champion. She's always felt an affinity with underground culture, but not until her soul-searching trip-hop breakthrough Ray of Light had this love been the sole mainstay of her albums. On Music, she's inducted the cool funk of Parisian electro-pop as the latest addition to her musical court, abruptly closing the chapter of the movement's niche status. Here, French DJ Mirwais Ahmadzai takes on the majority of production credit, with Light's William Orbit billed on two tracks; the result is a collection of songs that often links arm-in-arm with Franco-techno groups ranging from Daft Punk to Air.
Madonna relinquished unprecedented production control on Ray of Light, which resulted in the best album of her career. On Music, she does the same, dividing the CD into three distinct voices. Orbit's train-track-clacking drum loops churning under citrusy trance ("Runaway Lover" and "Amazing") shimmer for the headphone set. When Ahmadzai diverts from his pure-play French-style club burners ("Impressive Instant" and the title track), he employs several temporarily fashionable gimmicks such as vocoder effects ("Nobody's Perfect") and spacious keyboard work combined with acoustic guitar ("I Deserve It"). Lyrically, Madonna's introspection and love songs are some of her most intimate. Given the surrounding context of the album, "I Deserve It" is an outright folk song, and on "Don't Tell Me," she forgoes precisely enunciated singing for the aching plead of an emotive R&B crooner. For a second time, instead of exploiting an of-the-moment subgenre, she immortalizes it. And in doing so, she simultaneously draws massive mainstream attention to a deserving class of dance music and raises the bar for Top 40 pop. --Beth Massa

another classic.......2007-05-26
this album is fun and well done - anyone who likes Madonna should have this in his/her collection.
Music.......2006-11-15
Music by Madonna - what music should always be. Honest, true and inspiring.
Gets better with each listen........2006-11-02
The fact that this is one of Madonna's lowest-rated albums here boggles my mind. This may be Madonna's strongest album. Paradise (Not For Me), Nobody's Perfect, Gone, and I Deserve It are four gorgeous, lyrical, haunting slow songs, the likes of which Madonna had never written before or since. Take another listen -- these songs sound even better with age.
Very 'Different' Than Whats Being Played Today .......2006-10-08
Well, well, its been over 6 years in its release, and it still gets a HIGH play count from me, the CD is so amazing and is just as good as Ray Of Light, in my opinion. Okay here is the break down:
01. Music: (9.99999/10) Great way to start of the album. I love how she says, "do you like to boogie woogie, do you like my acid rock" very clever lyrics and just great dance music. Remixes are good too! I just think that it has been played a lot but its still good!
02.) IMPRESSIVE INSTANT: (10/10) OMG THIS IS MY FAVORITE MADONNA SONG LIKE EVER, THE LYRICS ARE BRILLIANT AS WELL AS THE BEATS, SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SINGLE AND HAD A MUSIC VIDEO WITH IT, I REALLY ENJOYED THE VERSION ON TOUR BETTER, (AND HEARING IT FOR THE FIRST TIME ON TOUR, AND ON THE ALBUM MAKES YOU GO.. "WOW") AND THE REMIXES FOR THIS ONE AS WELL ARE JUST AS BRILLANT AND AMAZING, THERE ARE LIKE 10 REMIXES ON THE ONE I HAVE, AND HAS A RUNNING TIME OF 78 MINS, JUST ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT, IT NEVER EVER GETS OLD!!!! (Buy the Album for this Track, you WONT BE LET DOWN! Promise.) If Universe and Love At First Sight is your thing, this is the song for you... If you cant tell I could go on and on about this song, SO GOOD!
03.) Runaway Lover: (10/10) 3 Dance songs in a row! This is another stand out track from the CD, once you listen to it, your hooked! "uh uh no way!" should have been on the Drowned World Tour 2001 :( Oh well, Remixes are good too, espically the one by DJ Tiesto! (should have been a single)
04.) I Deserve It: (8/10) My least favorite Song on the album, its okay i like the ending of the song the beats are funky country! :)
05.) Amazing: (9.5/10) Title says it all, should have been on the Drowned World Tour 2001 :( Remixes are alright too.
06.) Nobody's Perfect: (10/10) Another one of the better songs on the album, kind of like "Sorry" but with a different and better twist, great slower song, and remixes are GREAT If you dont buy it for Impressive Instant, buy it for this one!
07.) Don't Tell Me: (9/10) I think I have heard this song too much, Good song, has that techo/country vibe again, remixes are okay too..
08.) What It Feels Like For A Girl: (9/10) Alright so I'm a guy and yea dont really like the lyrics but its still good nonetheless, and great for this album... Remixes are some of the best ones I've heard in my LIFE!
09.) Paradise (Not For Me): (10/10) Longest song on the album. My cousin got me to love this song, it does grow on you, and very different from any other song on this album; Should have been a opitional single, and no remixes either which is a bummer :( The Video on tour had a pretty awesome Chinese thing going on...
10.) Gone: (8.5/10) Good way to end the Album, however though the album starts off with a BANG, you think it would end with a BANG, but no, just a slow and easy going song. It is good, however, a nice 'fresh' sound.
TOP 10 Picks: (in order)
01.) Impressive Instant
02.) Nobody's Perfect
03.) Runaway Lover
04.) Paradise (Not For Me)
05.) Music
06.) Amazing
07.) What It Feels Like For A Girl
08.) Dont Tell Me
09.) Gone
10.) I Deserve It
Overall 9.5 out of 10 Please just get this CD you will like it and enjoy it very much, and will love it for all that it is. You wont be let down I promise, What have you got to lose but like 10 bucks... trust me!
Madonna first music of the twenty-first century.......2006-10-04
Contrary to what she wore in the cover photo,Madonna has not gone country. This ten-track album spawned the Top 20 hits, the title track,WHAT IT FEELS LIKE FOR A GIRL and DON'T TELL ME. The guitar on GONE sounds beautiful. The other tracks are great.

WOW! How fast was that. I order this and it arrived in 2 days....AWESOME!
Street Jams: Electric Funk, Vol. 1.......2005-10-28
I grew up on this stuff even though I'm only 16. All the songs blended hip-hip with techno. All the beats seem unique and exotic. They are all something that you don't hear in today's rap/hip-hop unless they use the beat. Missy Elliott got her "Lose Control" beat from the song "Clear" off this cd. This cd includes the mega hit "Planet Rock" by Afrika Bambaataa & the Soulsonic Force. Every song here is great and major part of rap/hip-hop history and culture but here are my top 5:
1.Planet Rock
2.Skanless Electric Funk Mega-Mix
3.Electric Kingdom
4.Clear
5.Jam on Revenge (The Wikki-Wikki Song)
As Good As Music Gets!.......2005-09-13
Many of the sounds on this CD are about as good as rap/hip hop/electronic funk gets. Planet Rock is close to musical perfection in my opinion. How I wish the hip hop scene of today would return to its musical roots.
Essential for fans.......2004-10-15
I can't praise this 4 cd set enough.
Sound quality is excellent, decent liner notes - fantastic track selection.
Part 1 includes "Planet Rock" (Afrika Bambaataa), "Play At Your Own Risk" (Planet Patrol) and "Rockit" (Herbie Hancock).
Parts 2, 3 and 4 include "Siberian Nights" (Twilight 22), "Egypt, Egypt" (The Egyptian Lover) "White Horse" (Laid Back), "Don't Stop The Rock" (Freestyle) So many classics and the "Skanless Electric Funk Megamixes" are brilliant!
Anyone with even a passing interest in this type of music would be advised to purchase this.
Awesome collection.......2001-06-10
This CD is awesome! I just got it a few days ago and cannot stop playing it. There are so many early freestyle and hip-hop hits on here. Of course, you could not have an electric funk compilation without the classic Planet Rock by Afrika Bambaataa, which was one of the earliest (And best) hip-hop songs. Play At Your Own Risk by Planet Patrol is very catchy and easily danceable. The two megamixes are unbelievably good, and I think they should have made a CD with one long megamix. Another classic on here is Herbie Hancock's Rockit, which is infectious and awesome to dance too. If you like good, danceable, catchy music, and you are interested in listening to some early dance music, pick up this awesome CD. You will not be disapointed.

That was FAST!.......2007-06-13
I was so surprised how quick I got this order....Good JOB!
oldschool must have.......2006-02-11
If you came up in the mid 80's, I mean like in high school or something like that then you will know what I am talking about. This album and the series bring back so many memories. It was when rap was "happy" and the beats are what you paid attention to and you could actually rap the whole song with the MC. These tracks are oldschool and most younger people won't get the lyric's or beats. If you are over thirty then you have to get these and if you are younger you might learn some history.
Fantastic Beginnings of Hip Hop.......2005-10-21
A previous poster mad a really cruel review about this compilation series, and I've figured him all out. This individual is basically going on Amazon, and sampling soundbytes of certain albums, and just criticizing them just because he can. If you don't believe me, just check this person's listing of reviews. Every review is a "1 Star" Review, from Nine Inch Nails to The Killers. Please disregard his review, and listen to someone who actually "buys" and "listens" to music, and who was actually there during the beginnings of hip-hop. Many of these songs are still played at house parties, on mixshows, tv shows, and movies. The cool thing is that many jams of this era's hip hop was very lighthearted, fun, non-violent, and even downright silly, BUT they got the butts on the dancefloor, and that's what has been missing in hip hop and rap. This whole series I would recommend to anyone who is interested in historical origins of genres and sub-genres, or just want to relive a more innocent time. But like those kids on Reading Rainbow would say, "Don't Take MY Word For It"
More cheesy disco rap.......2005-08-21
Ice-T is the only good rapper on here, The rest is lameo stupid disco schlock. This is posuer rap. im talking total losers. Stupid kiddie beats make this sound like an episode of Mr Rogers
Woderful.......2005-07-28

Not just a Mix Tape.......2007-07-18
So like I kept holding off on this one because it looked like another mix tape. Club shenanigans and all that. And while that may be so to a point, the album is the JAM. Spank himself drops lyrics on a couple songs with the ferocity of my old man dropping the kids off at the pool (Drop the Pressure and the 80s classic Talking In Your Sleep). Couple that with a tight selection of sparkling songs from the fast few decades plus guest spots by Amanda and Pase (Lindsay Lohan's Revenge anybody?). Take this to any party, play it front to back and watch the rocks go off.
Not to be missed. Not to be missed.

Album Description
First-ever best-of album from this legendary dance floor diva!
With Let The Music Play: The Best of Shannon, this legendary dance floor diva's biggest hitsfrom her '80s heyday and her successful '90s comebackare finally available on a single disc. This album is a boon to collectors, since much of her material as been out of print for years, and completely unavailable in the CD era.
In 1983, the then unknown singer sang on a dance track produced by neophytes Mark Liggett and Chris Barbosa. Within a few weeks, the 12-inch of "Let The Music Play" was being spun by every DJ in New York City. Shannon followed this success up with a string of chart-topping dance singles, but soon left the music business for a successful stage-acting career. In 1995, she returned to music with the European-only single "It's Got To Be Love" and appearances on singles by Afrika Bambaataa and Sash!, the latter of which made the U.K. Top Ten in 1998.

At long last.......2006-03-31
truth be told... Shannon was actually one of the top dance divas of the mid-1980's, she had hit after hit in the clubs, but after the dismal failure of her third album, "Love Goes All The Way", she quit music for a long while.
This set compiles all of her classic mid-1980's r&b singles, as well as a few latter-recordings. Making it the best Shannon collection on the market.
However, let's go to the negative points.
- As the cd clocks in at 68 minutes, there's still room... but yet ShoutFactory has included the severely edited version of Let The Music Play here, which cuts off an entire minute from the 45/single version. LTMP is Shannon's all time classic hit, the song everyone knows and loves by her... what is there to lose by adding that one extra minute to make the song the classic we love and remember it as? All of the other songs are complete.
- "Do Tha Wrong Thang". I don't know why this was included on here. It's an awful over-long track that has a few vocals by Shannon but is mostly a few rappers. The song has no tune or melody in the slightest and drags on and on and on....
- Outside of "Move Mania" (which was a UK top 10 hit), Shannon's more recent material has been very bland and formulaic. I would've loved some more album cuts from the first two classic albums over the forgettable La Bouche knockoff "It's Got To Be Love" and the in-one-ear, out-the-other dullness of "The Best Is Yet To Come"
However, since reissues of Let The Music Play and Do You Wanna Get Away are pretty much out of the question, this set is the most affordable and convienient way to get Shannon's classics on CD, even though "Move Mania" is the only post-1986 track worth a second listen here.
A trip down memory lane.......2005-10-12
A great compilation of Shannon's. The only thing that would have made this complete would have been the addition of the song "Dancin". All in all, a disc worthy of purchase. I enjoyed it alot.
Why include a severly truncated version of her biggest hit??.......2005-06-09
Shannon's biggest hit, the one enduring song in her catalogue, is "Let The Music Play," one of the 1980s' most immortal dance songs. Finally, a greatest hits is issued and one can have these songs on CD...but the version of "Let The Music Play" included her is a severely edited version, not even the single version, which I used to have on a 45!! What on earth was the logic behind that? And yet we get the full length versions of her non-hits. What a bummer. Also missing is "It's Over Love," her late 1990s collaboration with Todd Terry which was a NUMBER ONE HIT on the dance charts. What were the people who put this together smoking????
I wish the music was playing right.......2005-04-11
Shannon was one of my favorite artist from the 80s. Her strong vocal combined with the genius of Chris Barbosa and Mark Liggett production team made the Let the Music Play album timeless.
And just out of the blues, I found out that Shout Factory was releasing a best of album and I was excited. Well I bought the CD and I was bitterly disappointed. The sound quality is good but not excellent. They could have at least remastered it.
And also there was a MAJOR blunder. How did this album pass Quality Inspection?? One of my favorite energized songs "One Man" is not transfered correctly. There's an annoying noise flickering at 2.11 min
I love this woman.......2004-12-18
I never knew who she was in da 80's, all I knew was that, I loved her song "Let the music play" and I loved her voice. Well its safe to say that I will be buying all of her work. A+++

Superb. Don't miss his shows..........2007-07-11
This is a great album, and Tommie Sunshine is a spectacular DJ live... buy this album and support what he's doing, sez I. As a previous reviewer rightly noted, don't buy the albums he's remixing, the magic is all in his treatment of them. Best DJ in Chicago, or used to be... wish he hadn't left for New York.
Continuous Taste.......2007-06-17
One of the very few CD's I like that moves non-stop between mixes. You can tell he had fun with this. Perhaps the tracks all arent the best choices, but the result is a pleasure overall. My fave: Hello Goodbye's track.
A good comp, with a few issues........2007-04-23
Tommie Sunshine does something great on this disc. Help break down the ever falling wall between the realms of certain rock subcultures and the realms of electronic music. Although certain artists on here that have been remixed are certainly questionable(Good Charolate, P.O.D? WTF is that about?) He does justice to enough other good artists to keep you dancing and listening(Kill Hannah, Peaches, Shiny Toy Guns, the Sounds, Mindless Self Indulgence). Overall the mixes are well put together and thought out, making you wonder why you don't hear more stuff like this in the clubs.
My only issue with the set(and the reason it didn't get 5 stars), is that I was hoping for a more complete set of Tommie's work, and also something that wasn't premixed. However, i'm still happy the series (Ultra) gave him the chance to do this. Hopefully we will be hearing more from Mr.Sunshine soon enough.
tommie sunshine is great remixer.......2007-04-11
this cd is very good. i checked out an whole album for one of the artists on his cd but it was pretty terrible, so Tommie Sunshine definitely worked some magic with the songs on this cd. i never heard of Ultra before but it is apparent from the internets it's a line of records or something. i dont know about all that but this record is very good. i had thought electronic music was awful since around 1995 but then happened to end up where tommie sunshine djed and was all "damn!" and then now i heard he put out this record so i was like i gotta get that. well it was completely worth it!
Tommie Brings the Fire.......2007-03-26
Tommie Sunshine manages what many before him have tried to do but with generally poor results, remix the rock song. He not only succeeds in doing this but many times turns a somewhat mediocre song into something spectacular (Good Charlotte, P.O.D.). I was somewhat apprehensive to purchase this because I'm not a fan of the ultra series AT ALL but I had to do it anyway and boy am I glad. This guy shows what electronic music has been lacking recently, energy, fun, catchiness, and a pop sensibility that most electronic musicians seem to be edging away from which only serves to make them "serious" artists, unfortunately nobody has fun seeing them live and their artist albums are usually tedious affairs at best (here's looking at you Tiesto and Oakenfold). This guy is the true hope for electronic music, people get out and support him.

Outstanding.......2007-03-10
Since the early 80's when our break dance crew used to battle it out in the crime riddled Bairnsdale Ghettos (that description may be an outrageus fabricated exaggeration)
Next to Grand Master Flash and The Furious Fives blistering Scorpio track...Newcleus' Jam On It was always high on our rotation list!
I spent the last 20+ years without hearing it so it's bloody awesome to have my very own copy again!!!
newcleus.......2007-02-12
It was very difficult to find this old release. But now that I've found it, It's on and popping.
Excellent rap album with technodance grooves.......2006-04-10
Newcleus had some dynamic songs that smartly used the techno dance sound under their raps. Cosmo D had the coolest raps over those songs. I still like Jam on It from 1984, which still sounds funky and catchy today. Had some humor in its lyrics too. But there are other surprises such as the 7 minute Computer Age, which came a year later in 1985. In most cases, they rival Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force in terms of the song quality. Most of the songs average around 5, 7 and 8 minutes, but they keep you entertained and dancing wild too! Jam still sounds good in its full 7 minutes--the 45 single that I got in 1984 doesn't even come close to it. The 1997 remix for Jam on It is just as catchy too. This group is underrated but made their mark in the 80s.
Don't hate congratulate.......2005-01-08
I would just like to start of by saying that "Jam on it" is one of my favorite dance songs. It has a good beat and the lyrics are slamming. I'm only 25, but I listen to old schools songs and old school groups and Newcleus is still up there in my book. Not only was "Jam on it" was a hit song, they also had songs that people slept over. Newcleus had good music and clean lyrics. Not only did they video play on video music box all the time but they also went on tour with "Cameo and RunDMc" Let's not forget some of the new talents that has sample some beats for them too. So yes, don't hate, congratulate
Up close and personal...Angieshubee.......2005-01-06
Yes! I was up close and personal with the Jam On Production Crew. Back in Brooklyn when they "ROCKED" block parties. Other crews were pissed when the "JOPC" came on the scene. Cosmo D always pumped up the volume and started with the rock jam "WE Will Rock You" and just then the crowd gathered around like ants on a crumb. Yes, I was there...CLOSE & Personal...really loved that "brother" Chilly B. He had the smooth rap sounds that made the ladies scream "OOOWEEE!" That bass line was classic, I'm talking a real bass guitar. These guys were about messages in their music whereas todays' rappers are about lyrics. Oh and don't snooze on that track "Push the Button". Yo, Chilly B rock that track and listen to the message, kinda sound true in this now technology world. FYI, Push The Button was played during the credits on Big Momma's House. Jam On It was played on Boyz In The Hood. No they were not rappers in the rapper sense of the word, but Newcleus made it on Soul Train and you had to big to get on Soul Train. I love Newcleus just like they were "family!"
