In 1993, when Shaggy successfully reworked the Prince Buster ska classic "Oh Carolina," he was on the cusp of creating a hot, new ska/pop fusion. Unfortunately, he opted to become a pop-reggae novelty act like Snow. Shaggy's fourth album certainly won't win over new fans or appeal to reggae purists and Capleton enthusiasts, but that's fine by him. While there are no immediate club anthems in the "Boombastic" or "Oh Carolina" vein, Shaggy's coarse vocal delivery shines on the sweet, Latin-music-inspired "Chica Bonita." Likewise, "Not Fair"--where he boasts that he'll take a woman "to the clouds without going downtown"--has Hit Single written all over it. On the downside, Shaggy's rap-reggae flow doesn't match the production values of the R&B production duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. On "Lonely Lover," Shaggy and Next's T-Lo bastardize a classic Main Ingredient song, while on "Dance and Shout," he distorts the Michael Jackson legacy by sampling "Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)." --Dalton Higgins

Even though I had only recognized a few of the songs before I purchased it, I found the entire album to be enjoyable. I purchased 4 cds at the same time and this is the one that plays constantly in my car.

No need to say anything about this album. It is excellent. Ten (10) million records sold worldwide, so go figure! Smash hits like IT WASN'T ME featuring RIK ROK, DANCE & SHOUT, ANGEL featuring RAYVON. This album is a must have!

I thought this CD was very good. I bought it before "It wasn't me" and "Angel" became popular (and i bought it for the song "hot shot"). I was very suprised when I started hearing these songs on the radio and that other people knew of them. All in all this CD is good, because you need variety (even in a massive reggae collection like mine). Oh and one last thing: Shaggy is NOT pop, he is and will always be some sort of Reggae/Dancehall. This album was in the Reggae section, so it annoys me when people say it's pop.

I'll start off by saying this.... I bought this album just because of the track "Angel". Before that song was released I didn't really know or care who Shaggy was, but after hearin' the song on the radio, and seeing how sucessful his album was on the billboard charts, I picked up a copy. For the first few weeks, I only listened to "Angel", and "It wasn't Me", but later I decided to give the whole thing a listen. As I finished up the album with the song "Chinca Bonita", I was a little happier about purcasing the cd. But at the same time, there is a part of me, that wonder's if it was worth 14 dollars.

The cd pro's - 90 percent of the tracks are great dance tracks, and are just fun. Single's such as "Angel" and "it Wasn't Me" don't age. Plus, each song doesn't repeat too much, and each track is a good length, (for a total of 53:07 minutes on the cd). The chorus's of most of the song's are very catchy (Think "Luv Me, Luv Me"). The whole album would work perfectly for a party. The lryic's are also pretty good. Even though I don't real care for some of the lryic's for tracks like "Freaky Girl". Tracks such as "Keep'n it real", "Angel", "Dance & Shout", "It wasn't me", "Luv me, Luv me", and "Hope" are all worth listening to at least once.

Cd cons - Because of Shaggy's limited vocal range, most of the song's end up sounding pretty smiliar, (in fact "Angel" is probably the only song that doesn't really sound the same vocally). Tracks like "Hot Shot", "Freaky Girl", and "Hey Love" could have been better. Also, as it starts to get past track 10, the song's become filler's. That doesn't mean they're horrible, it just mean's they aren't as fun, as the other tracks. In fact the beat of the song's changes a lot at that point.

Although Shaggy, will never have as much sucess with other works, as he did with this, it doesn't mean he is a bad artist, or a one hit wonder. This cd remind's me of the newer artist Sean Paul, who has a simliar style. I listen to probably 8 to 10 tracks on this album, when it's in the cd player, so it's definitly a good album, it just could be better. If you buy this, I don't think you'll be disappointed, but you may be suprised by some of the seriousness of some of the tracks. After all is said and done, this is still a good album, by a decent artist.

when I first saw this C.D. I knew that I had to type a review. Before I go any further, Karen Young is like cilantro. She is an acquired taste or you just like her from the start. This compilation may not be for everyone but if you are a fan you know that these songs are so hard to find. I use to love Detour, Dynamite, Expressway to your Heart,and You dont know what you got. Great nostalgia.

Karen was best known for her disco era hits, but this lady could belt out a rock song that would rival Joplin in her heyday. This CD is a complete best of, featuring her club hits plus other songs. Sadly, according to the liner notes, she passed away. Even though her career path was up and down and up, the world is short one great singer!

Lee `Shot' Williams and Ecko records hooked up in 1995 with this disc and are still going strong today. Williams has become kind of a comical soul-blues singer but this disc show's him at his more serious side. Lee remakes a few of his classics, "Make Me Holler" "I like Your Style" "Boogie Down on the Weekend", along with several fine new songs, notably the catchy "I'll Take the Risk", the funky "Lovin' a Different Woman Ain't the Same" and the blues-party anthem "Down In the Hood". Any fan of the bluesier side of Southern Soul will enjoy this disc.
