It's hard to argue with super-stylin' French DJ Dimitri from Paris. Between selling a couple hundred thousand of his debut, Sacrebleu, and then scoring hot and heavy with 2000's A Night at the Playboy Mansion and the three-disc workout Disco Forever, Turkish-born Dimitri seems to only spin gold, and House of Funk is no exception. Recorded originally in 1997 as a compilation for Mixmag magazine, the CD does have its rough spots, but even as a colorless house beat pile-drives the party right up to Mondo Grosso's "Vibe PM," Dimitri's skill in weaving disco strings and horny vocals together with unique tracks makes it all work like a charm. Per usual for him, Dimitri goes further than the average ignorant and insular DJ in finding his mix material. Forget spinning another house track from another unknown "producer," Dimitri blends '80s funk, Latin rhythms, Algerian Rai, new disco, and electro-pop under his beat-heavy banner. Bob Sinclar, Björk, Brand New Heavies, and Cheb Khaled (as well as unknowns Teddy G and Switchblade Sisters) all receive the Dimitri treatment, losing their identity to his in the process. Equal parts sentimental disco cheesemeister and crafty beat-matching style explorer, Dimitri from Paris invites you to shake it under his world-class mirror ball. --Ken Micallef

A Staple for anyones house collection.......2002-12-30
Anyone in the market for music to make people get up and dance, needs to purchase this. Undoubtedly a leading source of influence in the ever evolving developments of house music, DJ Dimitris album is a necessity for anyone who is a fan of house music or those who just love to boogie!
Not very impressed.......2002-01-23
I own most of Dim's stuff, this is definately "NOT" one of his artistic highpoints. Don't get me wrong, it's entertaining if you want to hear some middle of the road house music but it's not a must have. In case you are looking to purchase some dimitiri, try the playboy mansion, disco forever or his more loungy album sacre(sorry for the messed up spelling)bluuuuuu
Stoked.......2001-12-28
Okay, shoot me, I didnt buy this CD from Amazon.com, but hey, I still own the CD...
Although Dimitri keeps a somewhat low profile, he mixes some awesome music! Im still very happy that I bought this.
It doesn't matter what type of music you like, Dimitri will put a smile on your face! Every song has a catchy beat and easy rhythm. Another unique thing, unlike most music CD's this one does not use track gaps meaning there are no song conclusions/intros... each song rolls smoothly to the next one without the annoying silence in between your music.
All in all, this album fits in the "New age/Funk/Electronica/Trip hop/Dance house" genre. It would be difficult to classify this CD as one particular type of music as each song is slightly different.
Its almost a sure bet you will enjoy Dimitri, so I recommend it strongly.
I would give it 4.5 actually.........2001-10-20
its pretty good. Better than most of the cds i have. I especially like that the tracks are pretty varied.. The best track is the last one because its a bjork remix.. and bjork is magical.

i love this album.......2001-12-24
I bought this cd a few years ag- when it came out. Unfortunately I lost it, but I quickly bought it the next day. I put this on when i am getting ready to go out, clean my apartment, chill, talk on the phone, go running- I guess I listen to it a lot. I just love it. I love house music anyway, and this album is a bit disco- but not too much. If you like daft punk, air, modjo, mark farina, armand van helden or peter heller- you definately like this!!
It must be a French thing..........1999-12-07
The mixing is tight and most of the tracks keep a feel of rolling deep. This is a late night groove that kicks off house touched with jazz. Eventually the groove turns to those housey breaks under jazz for a track or so. My only problems were that no matter how I tried, I couldn't kick enough bass under the tracks. Also I question a few of the track selections. I realize the 'Sometimes' track is his mix, but better mixes are out. The Bjork rant boarders on annoying at certian hours and mindframes. In American terms, this tape could be mistaken for San Fransico house. However, I suspect Monsieur Dimitri hasn't really spent quality time in Chicago. That said, this is the best house mix by a non-American I've heard in 7 years of house devotion.
Try not moving to this one!.......1999-12-06
No matter what type of musical backgroud your friends have, they will be dying to find out where you got this CD; it's awsome! Ultra-funky beats and basslines compiled with enriching, melodious samples make this CD above all others. The transitions are perfectly timed, leaving a style long enough to completely enjoy but without getting repetitive. It's electronic, but not enough to turn people off. I've haven't heard any other cd that comes close to it. But be careful... This CD will make you MOVE, whether you wanted to or not!
Its cool; Sacrebleu is now available in US Get it Amazon!.......1999-11-25
This is a funky cool cd. Good to move around to. Solves your problem if you need to figure out what to play at a party that will keep the club kids happy but won't offend others. Even better in this regard is Dimitri's Sacrebleu now available in the US as a domestic! Amazon, get it on your site, kids.

Interesting........2002-10-22
JXL's remix of the Elvis obscurity "A Little Less Conversation" made one thing abundantly clear: in the world of rock and roll, nothing is sacred. If a DJ can get his hands on it, he can--and WILL--give it a dance remix, prompting cries of blasphemy. Rock purists will certainly pull out their hair after three minutes of "Keep it Movin'" from DJ Funkstar de Luxe. I don't think there's been a huge demand for dance remixes of old nuggets from the likes of Bob Marley or Bob Dylan, but they do surface here anyway. Marley's "The Sun is Shining" is set to a thumping house beat, and the groove is so infectious, you can't help but bob your head. Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" gets a discocentric treatment as well. Bob Dylan: from 60's folk icon to disco king? Who knew? Other remixes include "Give Me You" from Mary J. Blige, and an energetic facelift of "She's a Lady" by Tom Jones. But not everything here clicks, and some of the mixes come across as clumsy. "White Horse" by Laidback is fine as it is, and the remix that surfaces here is wholy unnecessary. Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell" could have benefited from a tighter remix, but Funkstar's is too generic and adds little to the original. But "It's Too Funky in Here" by James Brown works impressively. Overall, this CD is okay, but it comes across as a bit gimmicky at times. But as remix albums go, you can do far worse than this.
IF YOU WANNA DANCE!! GET IT!!.......2001-06-19
I bought this album about a month ago (give or take a few weeks...everythings a blur) and I have to say that if you are in the mood to simply dance, you have to get this CD.
Their are some killer remixes on here. and I love the way 'Funkstar De Luxe' samples, well not only samples, re-does classic hits by Bob Marely, Grace Jones and Tom Jones.
Heed my advice, this is an awesome dance album with some killer grooves. If you want to dance, buy this CD!
Five out of Five
Am I out of touch???.......2001-06-06
I can't believe that everyone who lives to shake their bootie doesn't absolutly love this CD. My karate class uses it as back music on spar night. I have it on all the time. It is cross generation music for anyone who wants to smile the second they turn it on. Maybe I am not as cool as the club scene, but I know what gets me going...this is it.
great stuff.......2001-05-18
i think this album is great. it's probably not the best to sit and listen to the whole thing all at once, but each song individually is amazing. all the songs are well done and mix in quite well with other stuff.
love it
An Interesting CD.......2001-04-18
This CD is quite interesting, I really like the remix of Bob Marley's Sun Is Shining, I Also think the Remix of Grace Jones' Pull Up To The Bumper is well done as well. However, The other remixes on here do not equal the intensity of the first 2 tracks. I enjoy Ring My Bell by Anita Wells but its all pretty much down hill from there. The other songs are average but they lack the ability to grab your attention like Sun Is Shining does. I do recomend this CD, It is a great departure from what we usually hear on the radio but It could be alot better.

Easily one of the BEST house mix cds.......1999-12-01
Top garage imprint returns with a DJ mix by CHOCO a.k.a G-DUBS, the man behind all those fine Groovin' records releases as well as the production wiz behind recent deep house smash "Follow your dreams"(featured on the cd) by spouse MICHELLE WEEKS and most of the exquisite tracks on this CD. The inclusion of the beautiful "We don't have to be alone" by Cooly's Hot Box in its original version makes this CD a VERY WORTHWILE acquisition. G-DUBS classic "The groove" also gets a slot in the mix before it morphs smoothly into the rousing gospel house of "Step out on faith" by Michelle Weeks. MATT WOOD' "No time" is an indication of how good modern vocal garage can be when produced by the right set of hands and ears. It is flawlessly mixed by Choco and contains some fine examples of the best in modern garage. Easily one the best house mix CDS this year, and if you are caught up in BASEMENT JAXX hysteria THIS CD CONTAINS their mix of "We don't have to be alone" GET THIS FOR SURE.
De Luxe Indeed.......1999-11-13
In a market full of copy-cat releases, Groovin' Records dares to take a step ahead of the pack with the House De Luxe compilation, a killer House DJ mix by master turntablist/producer/engineer Choco a.k.a. G-Dubs, who's best known for his studio work with the Wu-Tang Clan. With tracks from stars like Basement Jaxx to up and coming new jacks like Big Bear, no wonder the dance press is calling this "one of the best House mix cds of the year". The real deal, my friend.
BETTER THAN SEX!.......1999-08-26
You will never get bored of this masterpiece-mix of house music. Every track will leave you feeling grooves you never felt before! Get 2 copies and spread the joy!!!
