4 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

5 out of 5 stars Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2001-12-25

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2001-11-30

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!

4 out of 5 stars A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

Amazon.com's Best of 1999

The much-anticipated return of Underworld after 1996's landmark recording Second Toughest in the Infants, Beaucoup Fish is infused with subtle, lean rhythms, memorable hooks, and a youthful, sensuous energy. Alternately sinister and sweet, the endless DJ creativity on display is an ecstatic revelation. --Matthew Cooke

Amazon.com

A stunning album of smart, dance-pop craft, Beaucoup Fish blends stomping beats and meandering, binary dream worlds into a cohesive and heavenly revelation. It's another work filled with Karl Hyde's singsong talk-vocals ("Push Downstairs") floating over DJ Darren Emerson's sinewy, house-style rave-ups ("King of Snake"), a sound that has distinguished them since 1993's Dubnobasswithmyheadman. On Beaucoup Fish, however, that sound slips around tracks that do more than patiently await the next thick coat of rhythm, building simple songs into a digitized, epic whole. There are eruptions of ecstatic melody on songs such as "Jumbo," while jerky dance tracks such as "Bruce Lee" open whole new avenues for bursting layers of rhythmic ambience. Underworld are doomed to be haunted forever by "Born Slippy" (popularized via the Trainspotting soundtrack), the world's first international rave anthem, yet Beaucoup Fish goes well beyond such timely phenomena, and works instead to free electronic music from its computer-age constraints. --Matthew Cooke

5 out of 5 stars To sum up..........2006-05-18

Most of these reviewers are too enamoured with themselves, their own descriptive prowess and their ability to dance about architecture, so I'll sum it up for you. This is one of the best alblums of the 90s. Do yourself a favor and buy it.

5 out of 5 stars YOUR UNBELIEVABLE!!!.......2005-11-08

You like winjer but you dont like MOANER!!! Maybe im thinking of the Batman and Robin version but Moaner is amazing its probably one of their more fast songs but so kool. The angry voice is so kool it puts you in a complete trance makes your spine shiver. I love how it sounds like hes describing something going on its just phenomanal. not to mention the sweetness of the bass in the song. Winjer to me doesnt do it especially when u got bruce lee, kittens, jumbo, push upstairs, and cups on the same alblum. I love that noise in jumbo that sounds like someone bitting into an apple or a flash going off its so creepy. And bruce lee is just way different and super kool.

5 out of 5 stars Wow.......2005-08-22

From the first time i heard Jumbos pulsing baseline, i was hooked on Beaucoup fish. I will say with utmost comfidence that this is underworlds best album over Dubnobass and Second Toughest.Songs such as Cups, Jumbo, King of Snake, Bruce Lee and Push Upstairs still fascinate me as i marvel at the expert progression and song crafting that Emerson and crew unleashed with this album. I highly reccomend this to all lovers of electronic music and i can assure you there is no way you can be unsatisfied with this masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars 2 live crew you can dance to!.......2003-07-05

The only way to describe the outhere brothers are 2 live crew flavor that you can dance to. This is the album you and your buddies would make after sitting around drinking and shooting the bull all night. Great beats coupled with some funny risque lyrics. Instead of playing some Luther or Barry white to get your girl in the mood, slap on the outhere brothers. : - )

5 out of 5 stars One of the funniest albums ever!.......2001-05-09

This album, from a group called The Outhere Brothers, is one of the trashiest, most repulsive albums ever made, and that's what makes it so great! The songs break all the rules of censorship and reach into the farthest depths of vulgarity and depravity to make us laugh more than anything else has ever been able to make us laugh. Be sure to listen to "Pass the Toilet Paper," as well as the hilarious "FYITA."

4 out of 5 stars A great CD.......1999-09-12

I love this CD. I especially liked "Boom, Boom, Boom", "Don't Stop Wiggle Wiggle", and " Phat Phat Phat." This CD is awesome but it has lots of pervertive lyrics. So I don't recommend this Cd for young children. Their other album "The Other Side" is much better.

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent CD, Breaking All Boundaries!.......1999-09-07

The Outhere Brothers create a new genre with their CD entitled 1 Polish..... . This genre could only be called the "What we really mean genre." The Outhere Brothers never throw a curve at you, and they never try to bs you in anyway. They are straight foward with all their phenomenal lyrics, and their style is unmatched.

5 out of 5 stars Phat, phat, phat... This CD is by far the best "ever"........1999-03-23

"Dis CD is fatter than my girlfriend" (errr... phatter). It's packed with great songs such as "I wanna". The song "I wanna" was used in a Dutch commercial to promote an English learning program. Keep in mind... this CD is not meant for the light-hearted. ;-)

5 out of 5 stars A delightful find..........2000-09-07

I first encountered Bare Necessities' "Wood Duck" through a Regency dance group and fell in love with the beautiful and haunting melody. It took some considerable hunting before I found the CD, and happily purchased it on the strength of that one song. I have not been disappointed. The music is at times haunting, joyful, exciting and thoughtful. Played at a tempo that is emminently danceable (an amazing rarity among albums of period tunes, even those that feature dances), it is also a joy to listen to simply for the beauty of the melodies. I highly recommend that you take a chance with this album.

5 out of 5 stars Even better than their first album!.......1999-11-07

This CD takes the sweet improvisation of the traditional English Coutnry Dancing melodies to a new level. I find myself hypnotized listening to them. This is a CD I have worn out from use, if that tells you anything :-) This is another *must have* from a delightful band.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely music.......1999-07-19

I was lucky enough to attend a week-long Lady of the Lake dance camp with Bare Necessities in 1994. Thus when I listen to this CD, I wait for their rendition of "Fandango," which was a transporting moment at the dance camp. It was one of those dances where all the participants seemed to reach the same high plane at the same time, so that musicians and dancers were all interacting and lifting each other to greater joy with each new dance phrase.

This CD shows more of the inventiveness of BN than did their first disk. One of things I enjoy on this disk is the obvious pleasure of the musicians to be creating something this lovely together.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The style is the man--and the song.......2001-05-02

Many composers have chosen to perform their own material and commit it to discs, with mixed results. Only with Noel Coward do we feel that a good deal of the charm of his numbers lies in the very way he performs them. For proof, we now have the Naxos Nostalgia (8.120529), which dishes up 16 tracks of the ultra-refined son of W. S.Gilbert, giving us six selections from "This Year of Grace," one from "Bittersweet," a medley of treasures from his "Cavalcade," another from his other works, and a few other trifles that are better than most of what is written today.

Add to all this two classical scenes with Coward and co-star Gertrude Lawrence from his "Private Lives," incredibly valuable for those local drama groups who butcher this work in that this CD can teach them the tone and rhythms that are essential in making this classic succeed.

The subtitle of this set is "The Complete Recordings, Volume 1: 1928-1932." So we can look forward to future offerings featuring this fascinating composer-lyricist-performer. Thank you, Naxos, yet again.

    Album Description

Touching Moloko in style this dreamy song originated from Ireland, was signed in Canada, remixed in the US and now release in the UK. Dennis Ferrer is no producer to deliver half cut offerings, but what we hear here is ridiculous. The bass line just swallows you up and forms the main hook of this record. Massive tune on the pirate radio scene and favorite with everyone from Tenaglia to Vega. Balearic Soul injects exactly that unleashing killer electric guitar line that transports this. Charles Webster gets deep and minimal. In what ever form this is a remarkable and essential offering.

5 out of 5 stars If you loved the Little Fish movie, you will love this sound track.......2007-03-09

Watching the movie, Little Fish, I fell in love with Cold Chisel's hit song, Flame Trees. Although their version not part of sound track, I just had to have this song. Two versions used in movie, both on soundtrack. Place in the Sun is a great rock tune as well. More Aussie movies and songs should be available to the US! We're missing out on a lot.

4 out of 5 stars exotic and eerie.......2006-07-26

Soundtracks have always been integral to my enjoyment of the film, and this has been no exception. Although the instrumental pieces can be somewhat repetitive, they reflect the mood of the movie accurately. Also, the Vietnamese tracks added to its exotic setting (Little Saigon, Sydney). You can really become immersed in that culture.

The artists that aren't listed with their songs on the Amazon track list:
    1. Sarah Blasko
    3. Hoodoo Gurus
    5. Mylinh Dinh
    7. Bic Runga
    9. The Sacred Heart School, Cabramatta
    11. The Enterprise Band feat. Hoang Son

    Tracks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 13 are instrumentals by Nathan Larson.

"Flame Trees," originally by Cold Chisel, is a melancholy song that appears twice in the movie. First, it is sung by a children's choir (which seemed to be too sad and serious a song to be sung by children, in my opinion!). And then Sarah Blasko's version appears at the end. Quite the anthem of lost souls.

4 out of 5 stars Ciccolini Knows Satie.......2004-06-02

Aldo Ciccolini is arguably the greatest interpreter of Erik Satie, and he can also be credited with rescuing the minimalist from certain obscurity with the recordings he made of the composer's music in the late 1960s and early 1970s. For years I have enjoyed selections of those performances and I figured it was time to upgrade to a more complete set. As a result, I recently got this title. Unfortunately, this 5CD box set from EMI Classics collects Ciccolini's digital remakes of Satie's Piano Works, and not the original recordings of which I had grown so fond. (I have since discovered that a French Import of the complete original recordings is available.) The overall difference is minimal (yes, pun intended!) but I have to give the nod to the analog performances because of a slightly warmer, brighter sound. Also with a first time recording, there is an intangible element in the charting of new territory that I feel is never quite recaptured when revisited. With that being said, for the pieces requiring two pianists, the digital accounts are superior. While Ciccolini overdubbed himself originally, here he partners with Gabriel Tacchino to greater effect. In all, this is an excellent set by an unparalled master of Satie's music, but if I had to it over again I would have chosen the first incarnation.

5 out of 5 stars a voice teacher and early music fan.......2006-03-25

I have always admired the nonchalant and somewhat dry humor of Noel Coward lyrics, not to mention the interesting twists and turns that his music often takes, I admire Ian Bostridge for attempting his songs and doing a "bang-up" job of it! A quote from Ian Bostridge prior to making this recording:"My first concern while contemplating a disc of Noel Corward songs was finding a voice for them,,,,,,We need to remember that, in Coward, we have not only a formidable playwright and screenwriter, but also the English equivalent of Irving Berlin or Cole Porter". After I heard this from Bostridge (on an interview on ABC) I began to appreciate the songs much more than previously. There is much philosophising going on as in "I Travel Alone" and some are quite humorous as in "Mad Dogs and Englishmen". One has to listen more than once to get it all, but it's worth the time. And I definately think that Ian found the voice to sing them.Do I prefer Bostridge singing classical??Of course!!!!!But I still enjoy a break now and then and I'll take this disc for that reason.

4 out of 5 stars Mad dogs and an Englishman called Ian .......2005-09-02

I must say that I approached this album as a fan of Ian rather than Noel Coward (and admittedly still don't really have a good idea of who the man is). So in terms of Ian's singing, I like it a lot. He has a wonderfully dextrous voice and a clear tone, complemented by Jeffrey Tate on the piano and the soprano Sophie Daneman for several numbers.

Generally I find myself unable to appreciate the work of classical singers who do crossover albums, but Ian is an exception. It has been said elsewhere that he may lack a robustness in his voice, but here in fact, one would not wish for an overpowering tenor. He isn't at all overblown, unlike many other singers in crossovers. The lightness of his voice lends a kind of intimacy to these recordings, as if he were singing in a café or an at-home musical evening.

The material is, of course, a departure from Schubert, &c., but he handles it well. However, I do think that he has a better emotional feel for the 19th century German romanticists and the 20th century British classical composers (i.e. Britten). This recording is pleasant but it seems to me to lack the emotional depth of Ian's Schumann in particular - a perceived deficiency that might lie with the composer Coward rather than the performer.

I like to listen to this CD when I want to listen to Ian sing, but am not in the mood for his more serious/depressing recordings (a la Schubert & Britten). The lyrics are pretty inane, the same goes for the songs themselves - melodically speaking - but Ian makes them special. So four stars.

5 out of 5 stars Coward the Composer, Quite Charming without the Camp.......2002-11-18

I love this CD. I have a collection of Noel Coward performing his major songs, and I found it entertaining, but frankly I was never much drawn to it after the initial novelty wore off. I never really appreciated Coward as a composer because his campy persona and limited vocal talents got in the way. I bought this CD as a gift for a big Coward fan, and I am ashamed that I have not yet given it to him because I enjoy it so much. Bostridge is a really fine tenor. The beauty and subtlety of his voice bring out the beauty of Coward's melodies and the wit of his lyrics without overwhelming them with a heavy and mannered "classical" style, which is the bane of most such "crossover" CDs. The CD is also beautifully recorded. Outstanding songs include "I Travel Alone," "Parisian Pierrot," "World Weary," and "A Room with a View." Bostridge also has just the right touch with the goofier songs like "Mad Dogs and Englishmen," "Something to do with Spring," and "Any Little Fish." I highly recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys witty cabaret songs in general and Coward in particular. It really did give me a new and greater appreciation of Coward's considerable talents as a composer.

    2 out of 5 stars COWARD'S THEATRE SONGS.......2002-09-30

Sometimes musical artists should NOT attempt cross-over albums. I am a huge fan of Jessye Norman, Leontyne Price and Joan Sutherland, but their ventures into "popular" music were, at best, misguided and, at worst, heavy-handed and pretentious. Although Ian Bostridge does not embarrass himself, there is no question that he should stick to more "serious" music and leave musical comedy to other singers.

The theatre songs of Noel Coward take a very different kind of approach than Bostridge gives them. They need an actor who happens to be singing. Except for a very few of the songs on this CD (written by Coward for operettas instead of musical comedies) Bostridge's approach is absolutely without any character. All of these numbers are impeccably sung by Bostridge, but none of them are ever really acted. Coward's songs MUST be acted whether they were written in a comic or sentimental vein. The result is another misfired cross-over album in what otherwise is a splendid career.
