3.7 - Transgression.......2006-11-30
This cd is OK. But i have been a major FF fan for years and years and it doesnt match up to previous efforts. I absolutely loved Archetype. That cd was their best next to the might Demanufacture. They showed that Dino may have been the weak link. So i was expecting a lot from this cd.
Dont get me wrong, the first 4 songs are absolutely phenomenal. Then it gets a little sour. The track 'Echo of my Scream' couldnt be any more boring and out of place. The cover tracks are unneccesary, the u2 cover is uninsipred even though the Killing Joke cover of 'Millennium' is great.
Other tracks such as Empty Vision, Promise and Moment of impact are standard FF fare, but not special. Good tracks though.
So overall its a good cd. But i wanted much more, so hopefully they will bounce back a bit on the next release. Especially in terms of the drum sound which is a MAJOR aspect of FF's sound. The drums here are muddy. But this cd does have its moments, just not nearly as many as 'Archetype' or 'Demanufacture'.
They took the "Factory" out of Fear Factory........2006-08-31
Or is that the "Fear". No, it's really the industrial elements I'm missing most in Trangression. These are my impressions after listening to the album for 2 weeks regularly:
The first few songs sent me diving for the internet to see if they had replaced their drummer. Where is the double-kick?
The next few listens made me think they've replaced their guitarist - no rhythmic downstroke chugs in perfect time with the kick? Well that could just be because their IS no kick...
Then the second half of the album basically descends into what you might mistake for a compilation of all the "soft" songs off FF's previous albums. Ballads, etc.
And then comes "I will follow". Hang on, is this a Killers album? One thing that always p'd me off about FF is the way they modify their style each album to sound slightly like whatever's popular. They Kornified themselves in Obsolete; they nu-metalled themselves after that... This is NOT maturing - this is biting a style for reasons of pure commercialism.
So all in all... it's Fear Factory - they can't really do TOO much wrong. Even when they're bad they're pretty good. It's hard to live up to a genre birthing album like Demanufacture and, sorry people, that's IS what people are looking for when they get the urge to hear some Fear Factory.
On that note I'd like to say to all those people reviewing this album (or any album on Amazon). It annoys me that reviewers will violently slag off other reviewers for not "appreciating the maturing of the band", and to "get over it, they've changed". You're entitled to your opinion on the album, but equally valid is the opinion of the once-fan has been severely disappointed with the album. In fact maybe more valid because a large amount of people who come looking for a review on Amazon will be fans of a bands "original" style and expect more of the same. If Fear Factory put out an album vastly different from the sound that made them the pioneers of their genre then they've gotta expect a lot of disappointed fans. Yes, I came here looking for some more Cybermetal offerings in the vain of Demanufacture (coz EVERYONE I'm sure can agree - it is FF's definitive album). If I'd wanted a "matured" (read "lazily composed/throwaway") album like Trangression I'd have searched Amazon for any one of the thousands of nu-metal clones out there.
Obviously there is a little hypocrisy in my own review. If I hadn't felt the need to defend my "old school" views on FF then maybe I woulda spent more time giving an in-depth analysis of the album. Props to those reviewers who did just that; objectively sizing up the album's good and bad points and rating it in consideration with what the majority of fans expect form this band.
Not bad, but not great.......2006-07-25
Transgression starts out like a true metal album, but after the first five songs, I am sadly dissapointed. With songs like Echo Of My Scream, and Supernova, and covers like u2's I Will Follow and Millinium I thought they lost their touch. Nevertheless it has about 6 true FF metal songs that I am happy with. But after an album like Archetype I was hoping for more.
But songs like Spinal Compression and Trangression wont leave you feeling completely deserted.
don't be fooled.......2006-06-29
It seems that there is only one prevailing opinion about Fear Factory's "Transgression": since it's not a carbon copy of "Demanufacture" and "Obsolete," it's complete garbage. Fine. It's not those two albums; we get it. But quit wasting time by telling everyone how spectacular those CDs were and how Fear Factory are now a bunch of douche bags because they've evolved and matured. That's right, matured; I've said the forbidden word. So go ahead and click "No," because if you're too close-minded to recognize progression when it is staring right at you, your opinion isn't really worth a thing to me. Anyway, now that I've successfully blown off some steam, let's get down to the actual review. "Transgression" is on many levels a similar album to its predecessor "Archetype." Both consist predominantly of heavy songs with melodic and industrial overtones added in for good measure, and both have a select few progressive, lighter, even spacey songs thrown into the mix. The major difference is how much tighter the band sounds on this release. From the blistering opening of "540, 000 Degrees Fahrenheit" to the literally shattering conclusion of "Moment of Impact," it is obvious that these boys mean business. The musicianship that fills the gap between is for the most part high quality, although not without its flaws. But first the good stuff. This, while without a doubt being a very accessible record, can also be a sick, brutal, and downright METAL one as well. The songs "Spinal Compression," "Moment of Impact," and the machine-gun riff filled title track come to mind at once. The last of these three is one of my favorite songs on the album, especially the verse and chorus riffs, the former being a pummeling auditory assault and the latter a simple, melodic, and very effective backup. "540, 000 Degrees Fahrenheit" features very fast and rhythmic riffing, combined with Bell's vocals which are almost entirely clean on this song. Oddly, it all flows very well. "New Promise" and "Empty Vision" are both pretty good exercises in contrast of melody and heaviness, with the intro of the former being very soft and progressive and the chorus of the latter extremely haunting. "New Promise," is probably a stronger overall track, though. "Contagion" is another highlight, opening with a riff that is played wither on bass or an extremely down tuned guitar. Despite being an extremely heavy song, "Contagion" features a beautiful chorus complete with a string section. Speaking of strings, they are also featured on "Echo of My Scream," by far the most lengthy and progressive song that the band has ever done. Most people hate this song for the simple reason that it is not the Fear Factory from the Mid-Nineties, but I think it is very powerful in its plodding, melancholy way. But not every song on this album is great; "Supernova," while billed as progressive by some, is the band's blatant attempt at mainstream rock and while the melody is catchy, it simply just doesn't do it for me. The same can be said for the two, count `em, two covers found on this CD. "I Will Follow" is extremely faithful to the original U2 song, to a point where it seems redundant. The Killing Joke song is slightly better, and more in the vein of Fear Factory covers from past albums, but it too is lacking in the punch that the majority of the original material on the album has. Overall, though, "Transgression" is a very solid effort, and one of Fear Factory's better albums. Sure it's no "Demanufacture" or "Obsolete," but then again, it couldn't be. It is what it is, and that is a brutal yet beautiful metal outing from one of the genre's most unexpected comeback items. As an aside, the dualdisc bonus track "Empire" is worth tracking down even if you bought the normal CD. It is a very well-written song and is very reminiscent of old-school, balls to the wall Fear Factory.
a step up from Obsolete.......2006-06-10
still technical and scary with their grim sci-fi atmosphere.
I like how they are branching out but I wouldn't say this release is groundbreaking. Decent material.

3.5 stars.......2007-03-22
As a fan of Kreator from the days of Endless Pain, Pleasure to Kill and Terrible Certainty, this compilation fell below my expectations. But the songs I most like are Bomb Threat, Renewal and Phobia.
And must admit that Kreator sound better and harder live in concert than in studio recordings.
2nd Kreator Stage.......2004-01-28
This album is a most in any true metal listener, or even if your not, maybe you want something different than Manson, Nu-Metallica etc's, this album is more deep than the 80's Kreator recordings, the openning track,a cover from the classic band "Ths Sisters Of Mercy" rocks!!!, the rest of the album is great, different stages with attitude, you'll maybe not find, fury and burning speed-lightning guitars in this compilation, but a solid work of them, heavy, raw and direct, if you want the best of both worlds, try the other 80's compilations and you'll have a base from one of the greatest metal groups. Yeah.
What else can be said about Kreator?.......2002-05-13
This album is a MUST HAVE for every metal fan. Not only because there are songs like "Lost" and "Endorama " but also for all the old songs (classics). About the brand new songs, "As We Watch The West" just will make you feel the decadence of the world.
I really think That Mille Petrozza did a bad thing by placing "Leave this World Behind", "Golden age" and "Bomb Threat" together.. it's just too much!!!! I almost had a heart attack!!
Great music, great sound, great vocals, great aggression!!
Buy It!

Fans still looking for another Demanufacture won't be happy..........2006-10-02
It's pretty pointless to bash this band because since the beginning, they were always about experimenting. This album is the perfect mix of what the band is all about: aggression and melody. You've got the best of both worlds right here on disc. Plus, working with somebody new like Toby Wright, I can tell these guys had a good time. Granted, I would have liked it if they had somebody like Rhys Fulber produce this album, but Toby brought out the band's sound pretty well. Even if it does sound somewhat different then their older stuff, it's not terrible.
Moving ahead.......2005-11-26
Released only a year after they're 2004 comeback album "Archetype", "Transgression" finds Fear Factory moving ahead with their re-tooled lineup, and they continue to impress. Opening track "540,000 Fahrenheit" is heavy and driving, while the title track features some unbelievable drumming. Other standout tracks, including "Contagion" and the excellent closing "Moment of Impact" are throwbacks to the classic Fear Factory days of "Soul of a New Machine", but there are moments on "Transgression" where it can get a little repetitive. However, it appears that Burton C. Bell and co. have focused more on the guitar work and musicianship rather than the industrial aspects of their music, which is a welcome change of pace. The band even throws in a couple covers with renditions of U2's "I Will Follow" and Killing Joke's "Milennium"; both of which aren't the best covers Fear Factory has recorded, but they're a nice extra nontheless. All in all, "Transgression" continues the re-vitalization of Fear Factory, and hopefully they're next album will be the next masterwork that we've all been hoping for since "Demanufacture".
I am officially done with FF until they prove it should be otherwise........2005-10-04
So I got my Amazon shipment the other day. I had been hesitant to buy the new FF, "Transgression," because people had bashed it pretty hard in their reviews, but I figured that I would give them a chance since I had been a fan since the beginning and since metal fans can be closed-minded on occasion about bands changing anything.
By the first several songs, I was thinking, "Well, this isn't so bad. Not memorable really yet, but not terrible. And by the end of the fifth song, "Empty Vision," I was actually getting into it, thinking, "Nice riff."
Then the next song started.
Not only is track 6, "Echo of My Scream" a ballad (fine, whatever), but it is a ballad complete with cheesy rock drums and canned synth violins on the chorus (so not fine). That was the end of the positive listening experience for me. It only goes down-hill from there. The next two songs are similarly poppy, in the worst way, and one of them had me thinking, "You know, I do own some Blink-182 if I am in the mood for that. I wanted FF." Two not-heavy-at-all covers in a row after that pretty much ensured that whatever the last song was, I wasn't going to care.
So disappointing. This ranks with Life of Agony's comeback in the form of a Velvet Revolver tribute band. One more band I liked has sold out. Sigh.
Well, at least the new Nevermore and new Opeth kick ass.
Great album, but ARE YOU KIDDING ME????.......2005-09-09
The "new" Fear Factory (Christian on guitar, no Dino) follow-up to the awesome ARCHETYPE is excellent- great tracks, great energy, great musicianship as always. But one thing- The do a cover of U2's "I Will Follow", and I've got to tell you- from a diehard FF fan- I almost drove off the road. I've got no problem with covers- one of the best tracks on this CD is also a cover (and it kicks major ass!) and I love their version of "Cars", but if you're going to do a U2 cover, why choose their most simple, non-musical song that a 6th grade garage band can perform well- and why play it absolutely like the original version??? FF has the Mexicutioner- perhaps the greatest double-bass drumming metal drummer of our era, and he's playing "Boom-Cha, Boom-Cha, Boom-Cha, Boom-Cha" for 4 agonizing minutes... Just slit my wrists!!! It's seriously the worst single track they've ever put out- And I'd love an explanation.
Pretty damn good.......2005-09-06
I write this review here, because this is the version I have, but I will write it in the other one too, because that is where most of the reviews are.
In short, this album is enjoyable. Is it different? Damn right, but its not. It really does sound a lot like Fear Factory, but its not predictable. Raymond's bass drum is not going 1000MPH every song, even though there is fast double bass and blast beats. BCB takes chances vocally, and it works most of the time, which I am grateful, because the same notes reverbed in EVERY FF song was getting on my nerves. The "slow" songs have an 80's quality to them. If you are expecting Demanufacture 2, you will find some of that on here, but overall its a damn good album. Please do not compare to the awful Digimortal.

Album Description
Transgression is the second Fear Factory album to feature guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers, and it marks the first appearance of ex-Strapping Young Lad bassist Byron Stroud. Despite the new line-up, the pioneering industrial-metal band loses none of its patented tightness or aggression. Starting with the reverb-drenched Depeche Mode-meets-Megadeth sonic onslaught of '540,000 Degrees Fahrenheit', the group refines its unique brand of new wave-influenced thrash, pausing only to deliver a surprisingly faithful cover version of U2's 'I Will Follow'. Features 14 total tracks including the 3 live bonus tracks 'Slave Labor', 'Cyber Waste' & 'Drones'. Roadrunner. 2005.

Then I bought one of my own...The last CD's I've gotten were Robert Miles Dreamland and Robert Miles 23AM...They were awesome CD's...but when I heard this one, it just blew me away...It's like a mix of house, dance, trance, DJ, Techno, etc....I was really pleased with all the songs on here...They're all cool but different in their own way...each time I listen I just wanna keep on listening!!!!
