Welcome to the dark side. Goldie's label and Grooverider's club of the same family have earned the reputation of housing drum & bass's finest hardcore talents, and Platinum Breakz is an appetizing taster plate for those who like their beats and sounds forbodingly apocalyptic. This two-disc set includes late-night urban soundtracks from Photek, Dillinja, Lemon D, and J Magik as well as some hauntingly poignant vocal work. But the prize moments here belong to Doc Scott, who envelops the ears with waves of futuristic hardcore, and Source Direct, who drop the blackness about as deep, dark, and solid as drum & bass can get. Bristling as it does with cold technology and brutal breakbeats, Platinum Breakz is a perfect soundtrack for the millennial culture. --Steffan Chirazi

Historic.......2007-01-09
Recently a question was posted on a popular rave/music message board for people to list their favorite and most influential electronica CD of all time. There was a lot of Kraftwork, Sasha, etc. but I was amazed to see this CD listed time and time again by people given the fact DnB is not as popular in the US as it is in the UK or Germany. I have owned this CD for over 9 years now and it never gets old. This is simply a must have for anyone into any kind of electronic music.
class: sick.......2005-03-31
The year was 1996 and drum and bass was just beginning to gain recognition worldwide. Producers at the forefront of the genre were entangled in an exciting adventure, creating a new sound. Not satisfied with heavy basslines or kickin' breaks, many of the pioneering producers embraced soul, funk, jazz, reggae, and even classical to enrich this new sound.
And then we have the first series of Platinum Breakz. The producer of the groundbreaking "Timeless" album alongside some of the best producers serving up soulful slices of drum and bass with a new hard edge. Beats never sounded this good. Though such innovative days were shortlived, they have been encapsuled in time on this special double disc. The sound of the future.
For anyone who's into D&B this is a necessity!!!.......2003-09-22
I myself have had this double cd for 5 years now and while I don't find it especially dark it is VERY smooth, sophisticated, intelligent as all heck, and is pretty much 96' at it's absolute finest. This stuff was made back in the days of gods and legends by the gods and legends themselves when they were still just emerging into the scene. This is a cd that will be immortally seen as THE main cd to have in a D&B collection just because of the sheer quality, feel, the point in these guy's careers when it came out, and of course overwhelming nostalgia it has. You could compare it to having a Micky Mantle rookie card if your a baseball fan. Quite literally the bible of dnb.
All-Star crew of sound pioneers provide the spectrum of DnB.......2003-05-28
This double disc set is probably the only DnB CD you need for a very long time. I've had this for about six years now and I'm still picking it up for a spin at least once in a month. The line-up is sharp, the sounds are cutting edge, even in todays scene and the sheer quality of these tracks leaves you mouth open and utterly satisfied.
Peshay's Nocturnal must be one of the darkest and most powerful DnB tunes ever. Photek always delivers. Scotty gives out his repertoire of sniper shooting snares and beautiful, yet grim soundscapes and all the others prove to be on top of the movement as well. This CD is almost solely responsible for me being such a DnB-head ever since I got it. This is DnB at it's darkest, tightest and finest.
Thank god for the Metalheadz.
Pretty damn good (I am understating).......2001-10-16
Oh, man, this cd is GREAT!! I bought this cd when I wasnt such a big dnb hed, which was about 4 years ago, AND I STILL LOVE IT!!! It goes through so many stylez of DnB and is part time really nice and neat (with the fitting harbeatz naturally) but then on other times you will listen to tracks that will beat you and tell you "I AM HARDCORE" and all you will do is just stare and nod with youre head! The best tracks on this cd are (in my oppinion) the last four tracks on CD2. THOSE TRACKS ARE SOME OF THE DARKEST, MOST EVIL AND FASTEST TRACKS I HAVE HEARD (and I have been into dnb for quite a while now)!! I love it! Those are some of the finest tracks out there!
Are you new to DnB and want to explore what this genre has to offer? GET THIS CD! Are you a DnB Hed just like I am and are looking for a good compilation? GET THIS CD!

You want beats? How about two CDs' worth? Platinum Breakz II, the latest compilation from Goldie's Metalheadz crew out of England, hits the drum & bass spot--again and again and again. Disc 1 boasts a few subtleties: Hidden Agenda's two tracks have jazz-noir overtones, the flute samples on Peshay's "On the Nile" venture into acidic territory, and Dillinja's coda, "Promise," takes a chill pill. The second platter gets things down to business, however, with noteworthy tracks like the spacey "Swift Glide" from Optical (a.k.a. Matt Quinn) and the trippy "Melt" by Sci-Clone. For fanatics of breakbeat, these discs should be a quick fix. For the rest of us, things get a bit blurry, and there's a danger of OD'ing. --Jason Verlinde

innovation.......2005-03-31
1997, possibly the best year for drum and bass, was the year of this fantastic compilation featuring the brightest producers of the day via Goldie, including J Magik, Adam F, Optical, Peshay, and Dillinja.
Is this better than volume one? It's a little darker for sure, but I think they are similar in many ways, extensions of each other. Both are prime examples of a maturing sound in it's prime.
my first drum n bass set!!!.......2003-11-17
This is a nice set it has some nice clean beats with some special drum n bass djs I still listen to it up till today some of my favorites are J-Majik, Peshay, Sci-clone, Chainsaw, Dillinja, Source Direct, Codename John, and Adam F. They do a nice job with there talent. Well if I was to say anything else about this set, is DON'T LET PEEPS BORROW IT. Cause I did and only got one disc back and now I can't find this set in stores but its all good I guess I still enjoy the second disc! Well anyways this is my very first set I ever had that had to deal with drum n bass, and after this I started to listen to trance then house music now I am back to this kind of stuff drum n bass I just love it!
Good but still not quite the first.......2003-10-13
I don't know how many of you bought and were hooked on the original 1996 Platinum Breakz but I was and while I did like this cd it had a lot of tracks that didn't quite meet the sophistication and creative intellect level that the first did. They did play with a much darker sound and it worked out pretty well on tracks like Arabian Nights, Raven, and a few others but some of the tracks seemed very cheesy and sloppily thrown together (ie disc 1 track 5). It also had a Your Sound remix which I think J Majik would have been better off either adding a bit of melody & subtle sickbass or just leaving alone and not remixing it. It's still cool to listen to, stilla part of Metalheadz history if you wanna stake your claim to it but I'd still recommend the original Platinum Breakz or the other 2 post 2000 ones first (just got Metalheadz 03' today and it wasn't all that bad).
The sequel is never as good as the first..........2003-05-28
And that seems to be the case here too. Now, don't get me wrong, this 2cd pack of Londons finest is not a bad album at all. In fact, it is one of the best DnB collections ever, but still, the first PB was way better so be sure to get your copy of that first.
All in all, if you're craving for more after the first Platinum Breakz-comp. (and who wouldn't be!?) this is a good choice. If you're new to DnB, get Platinum Breakz I and let that one impress you.
we go and then we come back.............2000-03-23
Drum and Bass doesn't get much better than this - Most of the tracks here are a delicious blend of dark but uplifting basslines and tearing beats - i'm no connossieur of Drum and Bass or Jungle but this is the best i've heard - The Bassline to Ed Rush's "The Raven" is at once chilling and exhilirating and the menace of "The Warning" has to be heard to be believed - in contrast other tunes such as "Reportoire" and "The Nile Song" are light, jazzy and melodic. Do yourself a favour and buy it!

Best Dance mix ever.......2004-10-19
I have been listening to dance music for over 10 years and this album is overall the best House Dance mix cd Ever!
Awesome.......2004-07-04
There are a few dull moments on this disc but otherwise its a truly great effort. If you like any sort of progressive dance music, this is for you. Especially songs like Eugenia, Are You Out There, and Runaway. Beautiful stuff. Add that to Rabbit in the Moon, Orgy, etc. You can't go wrong. Probably can be had for $5 dollars as well. Worth checking out!
He has been coupled with Depeche!.......2000-03-28
If the fact that Bolland was allowed to remix Depeche Mode's "Home" and sat alonside Kruder and Dorfmiester on a CD isn't enought o bulster you confidence for buying this CD...well then you just are not living right...dig it!!!

Metalheadz - An Awesome Session.......2001-07-14
The exact word is Drum & Bass. This is by far (not the number one) but the best sessions in that category of music. Goldie's vision for putting such a label definetly paid off - artist such as J-Majik, Doc Scott, Dillinja and Peshay make the scene and DO shape the future of rumbling beats. For all, Must have it.
A great DnB album!.......2001-03-28
This is actually one of my favorite DnB albums out there. All the metalheadz guys (Doc Scott and Peshay especially) rule on this album! With songs like Unofficial Ghost, the rhythm and style is constantly changing, which I really like. They do an expert job at creating an excellent drum n bass album. It is pricey, I'll admit, and I probably wouldn't have it if it weren't for my brother who got it for me for my birthday.
