5 out of 5 stars Free your Mind..........2003-12-15

I saw the band one night before they rolled tape on this and its pretty much the same show. GC & company back to show the industry how it aught to be done. One powerful performance. Seek out part one of this , also released , forget the name of it though. This is the upteenth 'comeback' of the funk and the tour came on the heels of Clinton's just-released Cinderella Theory cd on Prince's label. May be the best live recording of 'We Want the Funk' I have ever heard.

1 out of 5 stars Time for some new funk.......2002-09-04

Gave it one star because I have these songs already. 10 star funk jams, but I can't believe this funk keeps getting recycled over and over again. Only thing new on this joint is the art work. Purchased this cd with the hope to hear some new re-mixes. Even one cut would have been cool. I have all of these songs on different CD's vinyl, etc. When are the true pioneers of funk gonna release something new. Scared to buy any more cd's titled funk. Funk artist Bride original D Silva has the best new funk material out there right now. Waiting for her new jams. Seems she's the only one stepping up to the plate keeping it fresh phat and funky.

Album Description

"Need more funk in your system? The Soular System could be your fix ... This band likes to bring the party and does not shy away from the challenge ... Its live show has more of the energy and bombast of a punk rock outfit than a traditional funk act." -- The Spectator "Summer heated up even more when The Soular System played at Skipper's Smokehouse in Tampa recently. On an already steamy night, this eight-piece band ... jazzed the crowd with its unique blend of funk and rock `n' roll that they brought with them from their home base in Tallahassee." -- Accent on Tampa Bay

All the Way Out & All the Way In is a transcendent, energetic, and contemplative innovation of sounds in the world of futuristic soul music that collides with raw funk, space-age concepts, and gospel inspiration. Bearing no sophomoric misfortunes, The Soular System has struck pay dirt with their newest ten-track songbook of eclectic musical styles and conceptual lyrical treatises, evoking the beauty, madness, and scatological hilarity so often found in the band's massive set list. The awe-inspiring unity of this band is what initially draws in its listeners. The tight-knit group exemplifies an interdependent spirit of collective oneness wholeheartedly, with all the members depending on each other's important ingredients. Keyboardist and producer Danny Bedrosian (George Clinton/Parliament-Funkadelic keyboardist) brings his passionate, elusive, colorful values to the overall soundscape of the album, while also pulling longtime P-Funk member Cordell "Boogie" Mosson to the table on a guitar cameo. All the Way Out & All the Way In is a monster of an album, introducing the world to a band that has been a marvel in the Southeast for almost a decade.

5 out of 5 stars Best CD EVER!.......2007-06-13

There is nothing more original, nothing more creative and genuine than this CD. These guys are some of the most talented musicians out there, and I just can't get enough of this music! I would recommend it to anyone who is a fan of real music, and not the crap that is on the radio now. This is one of the best discs I have discovered, and wish everyone owned a copy. It would easily be the best purchase you have made this year...or EVER!

3 out of 5 stars very good musicians....but poor sound quality........2005-09-24

Very good musicians and playing, but the sound is very dissapointed. Like a bootleg...
Dennis Chambers is phenomenal.

5 out of 5 stars Essential p-funk.......2005-05-15

P-Funk put out a lot of live cd's, especially in recent years presumably to feed George & Co's crack habit... It's sad.

This cd is essential for three reasons:

1. It's the only "professionally" recorded p-funk live cd. The others all sound like they're recorded through a couple of microphones in the back of the audience. This cd sounds superb!

2. Dennis Chambers. Incredibly tight, funky drummer supercharging the entire band. Like "music fan" said, he 'works the high-hat so fast it'll make your head spin--all while stayin' in the pocket!' The same thing goes for the bass kicks!

3. Cosmic Slop. OMG! Dennis Chambers, Eddie Hazel, Blackbyrd McKnight, Michael Hampton, Gary Shider, Bernie Worrell, p-funk horns, blasting on all levels.

Apart from that I have not much to add to bustin bob's review ('sizzling fonk').

5 out of 5 stars funk above and beyond the call of duty.......2005-05-03

the doctors RX was one the one,and the p-funk all star surgical team laid out one of the hottest funkiest live jams ever uncut. the funk is overwhelming dennis and skeets were in the zone and any one that calls themselves a funkateer that does not have this cd in their collection needs to relinquish their funk card immediately. funkamatosis to the nth degree

5 out of 5 stars Just for the Funk of it!!!.......2004-12-07

These two disc are by far the most potent Live experiences of punchy funk coming from the P Funk All-Stars that I've ever heard. From start to finish George Clinton and the gang serve up the funkiest and most provocative instrumentation and funk vocals on the planet. All beginning with an introduction by Maceo Parker that allows the crowd to realize just what they are in for as the band warms up to TEAR THE ROOF OFF THE SUCKER.

Dennis Chambers on Drums along with Rodney 'Skeet' Curtis on Bass serve as the foundation to a whole array of Funk that extends through a choir of shredding guitars, sharp horns, and one of a kind P Funk vocals. Dennis Chambers actually makes it sound like there is a percussionist along side him on this album, with his supreme drumming. The sound of this album is pure, raw, and punchy funk as there is not much out there on the market that can compare with this album. You can actually sense the profound chemistry and freedom that the band has as they work their way through these songs while jamming on the ONE.

Its impossible for me to pick a favorite song on this album. But I will say Cosmic Slop is the best I've heard outside of the album original. And Michael Hampton's solo on (Not Just)Knee Deep is super long and emotional as George instructs the band to "Keep going" just as it was coming to an end. Maggat Brain is spiritual in it's own way as you have to hear it to really grasp what I mean.

Thus, we can see clearly from this album that this Live experience was one in which the band had as much fun playing as I have listening to it over and over. A definite buy for any one that loves live funky music and profound instrumentation.

5 out of 5 stars Funkin' Incredible!!!.......2004-06-15

The album is a melting pot of P-Funk originals that go on and on. This is a good thing. The mark of a fine band is when they can play live and just have FUN. Too many people want to hear their songs played exactly how they were done on the studio recordings, and they forget that the band likes to have fun too.

Dennis Chambers is already one of the world's best drummers, and he really let it shine in this recording. The synergy between him and the Bass Player was incredible. They were a fusion of Funk, and the gods were happy that night they played.

It's a FUN album. Clinton does his thing as does Maceo and Skeet. The crowd loved them, and they all had a blast. This makes for an incredible live album.

If you are looking for P-funk to be played exactly how you heard it in a studio recording, DO NOT buy this album. You won't like it. If you are open-minded and have a great sense of fun and love to explore the ins-and-outs of the artist and their music, then by all means buy this album. YOu will go on a journey of Funkadelic Mayhem that will leave you jonesing for more.

4 out of 5 stars A Piece of History.......2006-03-30

I recently acquired the vinyl album box set of this concert and it is a beautiful set. It is a 3 LP set. This CD is only part of the second and third LP in the set. The first LP is the Jazz At The Philharmonic All Stars. The second LP is the Oscar Peterson Trio and the Gene Krupa Trio. The third LP is Ella Fitzgerald. It's too bad they didn't release the entire set on a 2 CD set. I can't comment on the concert itself, since I'm just discovering it myself. From what I've heard so far, it is a remarkably clean recording. The liner notes, which are extensive, indicate that this was a very well received concert of some historical significance. It was one of the first American Jazz tours to Japan after World War II.

this is bad about time some unreleased material from the late eddie hazel came out, if you can't get enough of maggot brain get this, if you love the first 3 funkadelic albums, plus parliament's first thangs cd get this, you will find some pretty interesting songs on here, like beyond word and measure, not hard rock but the bassline thumps a weird track with the brides singing backup sounds like a taste of honey on a acid trip-i'm serious, then juicy fingers has a long solo by eddie, as does relic delic this was hazel at his best, the man [is great], letting all us know he is the king of funk-rock add billy bass, and tiki fulwood in the mix and you have the only brothers who could even compete with the band of gypies, the standout cut to me is we 3 eddie's voice moves you it's so emotional you'll find it disturbing then eddie goes to a beautiful solo this sounds like the sequel to maggot brain cause this was his best solo since to me, the whole cd rules, mr. hazel is truly underrated someone release rest in p 2,and include love is something, clone communicado,p is the funk, i angle, orbitron attack, and pray my soul..., no p-funk fanatic is funked up without this cd, whoever said funk was dead should do their research plenty of new funk, and old funk that still sounds fresh for generations of hip hoppersd to explore.

4 out of 5 stars Rest in P, underrated musician..........2000-01-24

Eddie Hazel is truly one of Funk's / Rock's unrecognized musicians. Everyone who knows Funkadelic's "Maggot Brain" is amazed by Hazel's guitar playing. On this CD you can hear studio outtakes that should have been Hazel's solo joint. The material on the disc is worth many listens. People who enjoy the Clinton Clan in all it's facetts should buy this CD. It's worth the money anyway. So go ahead !
