Customer Reviews:
Awesome Set!.......2007-07-01
I am a huge fan of Jerry Goldsmith. They did a great job preserving his vision. I can listen to this collection for hours. Great music!
Elmer Bernstein Film Music Collection.......2006-11-03
This is compilation of hit film music from one of the greatest composers in motion pictures. What is surprising though is the music not included like the Ghost And The Darkness, the 13th Warrior, Rudy and others. To be sure, 4 discs are not enough for a composure of this stature. THe recording, however, is an "engineering masterpiece" which makes the music even more enjoyable than when you first heard it at the movies. When are we ging to get the music that was omittd from this compilaton?
Overall a strong Goldsmith sampler.......2006-04-11
Okay, this is a CD review, so the focus is on music, but I've got to say this first: this has got to be a contender for the ugliest cover art ever. I mean, come on...instead of a tribute to the composer, the cover looks like someone spilled a glass of merlot over a NASA photo.
Fortunately, even an ugly cover will not ruin good music. And the good news is that I'd say about 75 percent of the music is good....and on a 4 cd set, that's a lot. Like other Silva compilations, the strength of this compilation is the variety. There are selections from the big releases (Star Trek, Omen, Rambo), but there is also a healthy dose of tracks from the smaller releases(Under Fire, Lionheart, The Swarm).
Two examples come to mind. Capricorn One and The Great Train Robbery are two movies that are not exactly household names today, but are dominated by two of Goldmith's finest main themes. The City of Prague Philharmonic come through with terrific renditions. And there are plenty of other strong performances...a few being concert versions conducted by Goldsmith himself. Suprisingly, "The Wind and the Lion" works, which is no small accomplishment given the ferentic original performance of "Raisuli Attacks".
It's not a complete success. A few of the performances fall flat, particularly some of the more inventive scores. Total Recall is just bad, mangling the performance with poor percussion and synthesizer choices to boot. Also a letdown is the Klingon Attack from the first Star Trek movie. The Prague Philhamonic attempt doesn't sound bad--it's just that once you've heard the original soundtrack's "blaster beam" with enough bass to rattle your teeth...well let's just say Silva's version is a little tinny in comparison.
But I shouldn't dwell on the negative. Overall, this is a strong sampler of Goldsmith's variety. There are plenty of quality performances here, and despite a few omissions (noticeably Planet of the Apes)this is a very good release from Silva.
Jerry Goldsmith - 40 years of pleasure.......2006-02-22
It was wonderful to hear Mr. Goldsmith's music that went all the way back to The Man from UNCLE, The Waltons, Dr Kildare, etc. And then to hear his music up to the present. The man was a genius!
Almost the perfect compilation.......2005-12-31
Age has its value.... This sweeping collection of compositions brings back so many great memories. This collection shows how significant Goldsmith was for both the movie screen and the small screen. With such a grand collection, every reader can be assured that at least one movie or TV program they like or remember had Goldsmith's contribution. It was an amazing life and the collection well worth having.
However, as sweepig as it is, there are a few holes in the selection. "First Contact", one of the sweetest and richest compositions from the Star Trek is absent. "The Ghost and the Darkness" is missing and the "Medicine Man" music should include the theme song. By dwelling on several selections from the Blue Max, these were squeezed out. Three full and important movie themes got the axe.
However, all but "The Ghost and the Darkness" are readily available and not overly expensive as is the "Ghost" CD. This is a must have for the TV and movie music fan.
Before there was Hans Solo there was Napolean Solo, before ER there was Dr. Kildare. Jerry Goldsmith IS Sci-Fi. "Resistance is futile.. you MUST assimilate this CD collection."

It's only fitting that some of reggae's top stars should record Police songs, as Sting and Co. were enormously influenced by reggae, and their popularity gave reggae a needed boost in public awareness. Twelve artists working in different genres, from roots to dancehall, run through spirited versions of some of the band's (mostly Sting's) most famous songs, including "Roxanne" (Aswad), "Message in a Bottle" (Maxi Priest), and "Every Breath You Take" (Betty Wright), while Sting himself contributes to tracks by Pato Banton and Ziggy Marley. Many of the artists also add lyrics of their own, but what becomes obvious from these fresh interpretations is how brilliantly crafted these songs were in the first place, and how well they wear today. --Derek Rath
Customer Reviews:
a simple cd.......2007-01-11
like reggae in new waves and new songs, well this cd of various artists is a good music paying tribute to the police.
Shout out to the Babylon.......2005-02-03
It's not often that you'll find reggae superstars paying tribute to the Babylon (slang term for the police), so this album is certainly unusual in at least that respect.
There are a few stand-out performances by reggae luminaries like Aswad, who does a great version of "Roxanne", and Steel Pulse who perform "Can't Stand Losing You", but Maxi Priest doesn't do justice to "Message in a Bottle" at all. Sting also guests on two of the better songs, one with Ziggy Marley.
As Police covers, there's nothing really different other than the reggae rhythms, except perhaps for "Spirits in the Material World" by Pato Banton and Sting, where Pato improvises a bit on the chorus.
An interesting novelty album, and quite listenable, but does nothing to showcase or enhance the music of either The Police or the reggae artistes.
Amanda Richards, Feb 2, 2005
Not that great.......2004-08-22
As a bonified fan of The Police, and a moderate fan of reggae, I was excited to hear old favorites redone by reggae artists. However, this album is surprisingly bland and unoriginal (aside from the fact that they're a bunch of Police covers--obviously, I didn't expect new lyrics). The arrangements were new to me but the sound was stale. How sad. Put your good money on "Outlandos D'Americas," a tribute to the Police in Spanish: it's far better.
Yougetit Forgetit.......2002-06-29
If you like the Police ... and like good reggae .... you'll be disappointed in this album. Great artists, great tunes and alot of potential -- but falls way short in this overly commercial sounding tribute.
I've played it so much some originals sound bland.......2000-08-25
I love this album! I love Sting and the Police, and reggae: buy this if you do too!

Featuring an even more eclectic range of artists, R.M. Vol. 2 is just as strong and sometimes even more interesting than its predecessor. The full gamut of reggae style, from rock steady to dancehall, is present once again to reinterpret the songs of Police, who themselves drew much inspiration from reggae. Pre-Police giants like Toots and the Maytals, Inner Circle, and Third World, contemporaries Aswad, Freddy McGregor, Bim Sherman, and newer stars like Louchie Lou, Rayvon, Shaggy, and Big Mountain all make stalwart contributions, reemphasizing how strong reggae's legacy of stars is now, and the 10 songs (including "Don't Stand So Close to Me," "So Lonely," and "De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da") are testament once again to the writing skills of Sting and Co. --Derek Rath
Customer Reviews:
'Reggatta Mondatta' - Police Tribute,Volume 2 (Ark 21).......2004-12-12
Personally,I liked Volume 1 a tad better.I never heard of most of these artists on here.I played this disc at a party recently and a few of the others that were present thought 'Reggatta...' was decent.Keep in mind that reggae isn't one of my favorite genres anyway.I took sort of a vote and a couple others tend to agree with me that the better cuts were "So Lonely" by Aswad,"Demolition Man" by Rayvon(perhaps the best track)and "De Do Do Do Do,De Da Da Da Da" by Third World.See what you think.By the way,I've ALWAYS loved the Police.
Not nearly as good as the first one.......1999-05-08
While a couple of tracks shine (Demolition Man, Rehumanize Yourself) others never get going. Classics like Bring on the Night just plod along.
Unfortunately this album sounds like it was rushed out to take advantage of the success of the first (better produced) one.
Bob Marley Meets The Police.......1999-03-07
Anyone who is a fan of The Police should seriously check out this compilation. The reinterpreted songs have a fresh new sound, which is not necessarily better than the originals, but simply different. However, in my opinion, anything different is good. The rhythm and beats of these jamming grooves admittedly makes my head nod and my feet tap. I actually preferred the reggae versions of the songs "So Lonely", "King of Pain" and "Demolition Man" (this coming from a guy who's a huge fan of The Police). The song I enjoyed immensely was "Man in a Suitcase", covered by Big Mountain. The tempo is much slower than the original and the words not as slurred. I could describe each song in detail, but I suggest that you sample the CD for yourself and I would be happy to know what your opinions are. By the way, Volume 1 is not bad, but the songs on Volume 2 are probably superior. If you get both, the only thing you'll be missing is the Caribbean sun shining down on you and the white sand under your feet (pardon this corny expression, but it's what I envision when I listen to these songs)!
Bouncy Electronic 'reggae' does no justice to Police tunes........1998-08-01
I had high hopes that this would be a cool album, as I am a huge Police fan. However, I was quite dissappointed.
All of the tracks pretty much sound the same, with uninteresting electronic rhythms and uninspired vocals, completely the opposite of the original creations of The Police. This album is, in my opinion, a great disservice to the amazing catalog of music produced by The Police.
It's too bad that today's 'alternative' artists don't put together a proper Police tribute album, as they are the folks that have really been influenced by The Police.

When's The Next One !?.......2003-04-05
Great music, I love the genre of film music represented here, you haven't heard anything as cool as 'Goodbye my Friend', from 'Il Cittadino Si Rebella', by Guido & Maurizio De Angelis. I love this song! great instrumentation and just who the hell are 'Suzi & Guy', great voices, 'Guy'(Guido?) sounds like Arthur Brown, of 'Fire' fame.
The other stuffs cool too, but especially the 3 tracks by the De Angelis brothers.
More like this please, especially if we get some more Stelvio Cipriani, I wish someone would release his soundtrack music for that classic sleazy giallo 'What Have They Done To Your Daughters'.
Funky '70s Action Movie Grooves at their most Wicked !.......2002-12-25
Heads up ! If you decide to get this goody, make sure to also stick a copy of Shake Sauvage in your bin as well - - same label, but escargot style. - - Both CDs are incredibly hard hitting... I'll leave it up to you to decide which is funkier... Personally speaking I'm leaning towards Shake Sauvage... however, if you don't have BOTH, you'll be missing out either way... (the I-talian style action funk seems to be a bit more hard edged and trippy (you can really imagine those wild chase scenes) - - in contrast, Shake Sauvage seems to me to be more Jazzed out....) By the way, check out Sammy Barbot's funky vocals on "Mark" - - Is he really doing the James Brown thing in Italian ? - - The high point of this CD overall is track number 4 - - Blazing Magnum... worth the purchase of the CD alone -- as well as a vocal track in English by a group callled Susi and Guy called Driving All Around. I definitely want to check them out some more.
The music on this compilation is funky and wicked... Blaxploitation style funk... those wild wa wa chase themes with the sizzlin congas, screaming violins, funky horn hits... its all there... Some tracks feature James Brown inspired vocals, others are hard hitting instrumentals...
Like Shake Sauvage, the CD comes with a nice little nifty booklet with plenty of illustrations and backround on the Italian action movie cinema.
Fans of rare groove, acid Jazz and ultra funky '70s music will dig this majorly... Next, I'd really like to see some of those funky early '70s Hammond laden porno soundtracks on CD... Whatever, hope this label decides to release more compilations like this !
euro lalo spin!.......2001-11-29
This collection is brilliant! While Lalo Schifrin was scoring the likes of "Dirty Harry" these Italian maestros were accomplishing similar feats. If you appreciate his music, you'll NEED this cd. when you own it, you'll LOVE it.
Sexy Music, Fast cars and Faster Women.......2000-03-31
120 mph...windows down...the stereo cranked...The Sexy Inspector never rolls without Beretta 70 in his CD player to compliment the lusty growl of his Alfa Romeo. Chicks swoon and mothers hide their daughters when Dino blows into town. Beretta 70 is oh soo sexy.
The Soundtrack of Italian Cop Movie (Poliziotteschi).......1999-06-25
If you love Alfa Romeo Giulia, Maurizio Merli or Stelvio Massi you have to get it. But even if you don't know this, you can enjoy the songs from Maurizio & Guido De Angelis (aka Oliver Onions) or Franco Micalizzi who made the musical themes of a great cinema genre: Italian Poliziotteschi. If you like this kind of music and movies, you have to get also Easy Tempo Vol. 3; in this CD you can find "Gangster Story" probably the best cop song from the movie "La Polizia Incrimina, La Legge Assolve". If you want to learn more about this movies, you can find "pollanet" from Altavista or Yahoo.

Album Description
Live in the Moment. This is the theme that always comes up when the members of Moonraker talk about their songwriting and their live performances. With this self-titled CD release, this is not only Moonrakers moment, this is their time.
Moonraker's members include a classically trained pianist, a self-taught bassist, a huge Muddy Waters fan, a chef, and a sonic healer. Their affinity for all things musical brought the together nearly four years ago. Those years found them performing alongside Joan Osborne, Lake Trout, The Slip, DJ Spooky, Ice T, Broken Social Scene, and the Disco Biscuits.
From the ethereal "Shalom" to the inspiring message of "Modern Way" to the ambient rock edge of "Salimander" and "Courageous World", Moonraker's quintet of talent delivers a unique, coherent sound that offers something for everyone. A hybrid of trance, rock, electronica and jazz overtones, Moonraker have the spirit and soul to go all the way. Their mix of drum, bass, keyboard and guitar, accompanied by Scarr's memorable vocal phrasing & energy, is what makes Moonraker stand out in a crowded playing field. From the band's inception, their creative purpose was, and still is, to let the music form itself. At an average age of twenty-two, the still have many creative frontiers to explore. They observe and contribute, but ultimately the music takes its course. Moonraker let the music flow and ride the wave. Take the journey with them.

Missed Opportunity.......2005-01-27
Originally I checked out Moonraker due to word of mouth in trip hop circles. I find comparisons to Esthero or even Portishead(!?) off. Really if I had to compare it to other artists I'd have to say Jill Scott and Erykah Badu. At their best Moonraker has a slick retrofuture R&B sound. Unfortunately the lyrics swing from dippy to hippy without any of Badu's amusing New-Age Afrostition or Scott's creative and endless stream of wordplay. Many of the songs on this album have been recorded before. Naturally I expected some beefing up and fine tuning. What I got instead was variation without any marked improvement. The music is passable, the singing okay, and the lyrics awful, especially in the context of the whole. This is an interesting enough band to keep tabs on, but at this rate they may never go anywhere. They ought to shut themselves in a studio and polish and push the envelope until they come up with something truly exciting. They seem capable enough.
Moonraker is so epic!.......2004-03-09
This truly is an awesome CD, I'm not just saying that because the Khod-man is my cousin. In fact, he's technically my second cousin once removed, so we only see each other at Thanksgiving. Anywho, I'm definitely going to check these guys out in concert! See you in Gstaad!!!
INCREDIBLE!.......2004-02-26
I've been a Moonraker fan for some time, and nothing has come close to capturing the experience of seeing them perform live, but this album is almost as good! After Nada Brahma, this is my favorite CD. It plays over and over in my car...Kelli's vocals on "These Walls" are haunting, and "The Rescue" and "So Sweet" are absolutely incredible.
Surprisingly great cd.......2003-12-26
I got this in the mail yesterday and have listened to it about 3 times through. This is my first Moonraker cd, and it was so worth the $$$$. With every listen, I am enjoying this cd more and more. It slightly reminds me of Esthero on some tracks. I listened to it while cleaning and found myself dancing and really loving this cd. It's going to be one of those favorites that is always in the player or in the car with me. The vocals are also excellent. I particularly liked The Rescue...it's got an incredible beat, really jazzy. I think any lover of good music, chill out to jazz and alternative and trip hop will enjoy this cd. I am looking forward to exploring more Moonraker, why didn't I know about them before?
Looking for something new and original?.......2003-10-23
This is a great CD. I have been a Moonraker fan for sometime, and this CD is finally able to take both the sultry mood of their old studio stuff, and combine it with the raw energy of the live show (go see them live). It is especially good to hear some of the older tunes with better sound quality (either re-recorded or just beefed up). Everyone sounds great, but what we really get here that we were missing on the previous studio stuff is the live feel of Dan's intense and always-on-point drumming...how the heck does he do it? I have played this CD for many, and it never disappoints!!! Buy it and enjoy!!!

Police for the club kids.......2000-08-26
A clever remix of one of the longest song names in rock: The Police's "When The World Is Running Down You Make The Best Of What's Still Around". Sure to get all ravers and Police fans dancing. A surefire hit.
