Dissent’s third release, Swap Meet Seers, clearly demonstrates a positive growth cycle. Producer and composer Gregory Howe draws from many musical directions to create a diverse yet concise sound which lands somewhere between hip hop, soul, pop, alternative and downtempo.

Often compared to a young Astrud Gilberto, vocalist Nathalie Sanchez follows up her debut on Dissent’s Bleeding Together with outstanding performances on "Where Lost Is Found" and "Take My Hand." Adding to the world flavor of the record, Sanchez also sings two songs in French, her native language, including the single "Je Me Souviens," which is dedicated to her French-Canadian upbringing. Also contributing to the album are Variable Unit’s bassist Matt Montgomery, returning keyboardist Matt Cunitz and drummer/synth player Chris Krotky.

With Swap Meet Seers, Dissent creates timeless music that combines spirit, innovation, and current sounds with soul roots.

When the promo sheet for a CD throws around phrases like "acid jazz," "trip hop," and, worst of all, "electronica," one begins to worry. However, this album rises above the "Ibiza Chillout, Vol. 356" dreck that plagues record stores. What stands out is the effortless integration of organic elements (live vocals and instrumentation) with electronic textures and sampled beats. It's downtempo stuff, but it moves, particularly the vocal-driven cuts. Highlights include "Je Me Souviens" and "Coming of Wage," moody pieces with deep production and a timeless feel. Fans of Thievery Corporation should check this out.
