Album Description
The Lost Patrol is the brainchild of Dennis Lyxzén from Refused/The (International) Noise Conspiracy in singer/songwriter mode. But don't expect your usual whiny middle-aged guy strumming some chords in an acoustic guitar. The sound is stripped down, yes, but this is everything but whiny.
You will find very well crafted songs that deal with Dennis' personal experiences ranging from soft spoken moments to the most cheerful upbeat (and yes! danceable!) songs like "Alright", written and performed with Lisa Miskovsky which will be released as the first single/video.

Blown away.......2006-02-28
When I popped in my Lost Patrol disc I was blown away. I had read reviews and heard it was different, but is this truly the same Dennis Lyxzen from Refused fame? I haven't taken it out of my stereo since.
Dennis takes a way different approach to his musical talents this time around. Instead of the anti-capitalist we've come to know and love spewing propaganda like a typewriter. He takes a softer gentler touch and makes an acoustic love album, using the talents of many different musicians to create the sound. Pure genius.
Such a great album... If you want a break from the (international) noise conspiracy and like slower mellower acoustic sound, pick it up. If you come looking for the front man of Refused or t(i)nc you've come to the wrong place.

Dennis Lyxzen and the Lost Patrol delve into glassy-eyed version of the singer-songwriter genre and incorporate a band with demure piano licks, softened drum beats, and the illusory effect of analogue equipment. An acoustic project from the folks behind The (International) Noise Conspiracy and Refused, "Songs About Running Away" is typical on the Indy-pop side of things, speaking of timid sensitivity towards women in a stressed yet detached situation. It's much mellower and laid back; and stands out as Lyxen's baby. He assembles musicians around him in a different fashion for each track, acting as the bandleader for this visibly depressed session. No two tracks feature the same sidemen, adding to the visible breadth of the compositions involved and the amount of time it took to record them. Appropriately, the album is on Burning Heart Records; a partner company of Epitaph.

this album is great, but if you're a really hardcore fan of refused and the (international) noise conspiracy, and are not into new experimentations and more acoustic sounds, then you should at least give the album a try. you may find it irresistably catchy(especially going going gone, my favorite so far)

And what ever happened to playing a song because it was good, rather than first comparing the creativeness of one band to another before deciding whether or not you like it? I enjoy this song, as I bought the full length cd, and listen to it regularly. And I also listen to Staind, Eric Clapton, Gov't Mule, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Trust Company, Fuel, and lots and lot of blues! You can say I have a wide taste of musical genres.

And I found more of the same schlock. Hoobastank is one of those carefully crafted bands who have a very generic sound that play off of the success of bands like Incubus, who do this style far better.
'Running Away' is not even 3 minutes long and over 1/3 of this song is repitition of "Why are you running away?" Obviously, the creativity was really flowing on the day they wrote this song.
To further look at the creativity, let's look at these "original" lyrics:
"I don't want you to give it all up
and leave your own life collecting dust
and I don't want you to feel sorry for me
you never gave us a chance to be"
"And I don't need you to be by my side
and tell me that everything's all right
I just wanted you to tell me the truth
you know I'd do that for you"
I don't think these lyrics could get any more generic or superficial. Musically, this band in general shows little talent in the riff writing department and is merely a backdrop for the vocalist's talent. There is another genre of rock music that is famous for this; glam rock. If you were to take Fred Durst and make him a member of Poison or Skid Row... you'd have Hoobastank.
Of course, you'd expect anyone who was such a huge fan of such a worthless genre of music as nu-metal to love this. It's veiled superficial qualities easily trick those weak of mind.
A fool and his money are always sure to part ways.

Review of Americans in London.......2006-03-09
The recording is excellent and replaces my old 78 recordings which I transferred to tape some years ago. But they have that horrible hissing noise which spoils my enjoyment of them.
It is to be observed that although the cast is American, the orchestras and conductors are British (except for Debroy Sommers). I know qite a bot about Deboy Sommers and Lew Stone, but can anyone fill me in about Reginald Burston?
The CD is great. Thank you to Amazon for this.
