Rihanna definitely made the effort to step up to a more mature sound on this album. The new sound is not half bad either. However, alot of the tracks sound rushed and like no effort was put into them. The beats are solid and there are some memorable lyrics as well. Overall, Id say this cd is worth lending an ear to. I listened to this at work and heard it quite a few times over the course of around 5 days. It annoyed some of my workmates and others didn't mind it - I quite enjoyed some of the music on this album, which is undoubtedly well produced. I imagine that it would sound quite good played up loud at a party or in a club.

Some of the song lyrics struck me as being a little silly, but that didn't bother me too much.

I don't think I'd listen to this album very often, but if I had a lot of guests over for a party, I'd consider playing it if people looked like they may want to dance.

Kellie was super on American Idol. On the tour she cowrote a number of songs that are on her album. She wrote about her life back in this small town in the Carolina's where she grew up. Her mother had left her, her father is in prison, so she has a lot to write about. Her grandmother died when Kellie was 15, Kellie wrote a song about her and called it her "Angel". "I Wonder" she also helped write,it is about her mother who left her when she was 2. The video is a real tear jerker and makes you wonder what is wrong with her mother. If you do not buy any other cd's buy Kellies, you will never regret it.

Well on her way! What a pleasant surprise this cd is! I think I prefer this cd to that of the other blonde country girl from AI. Kellie Pickler's music is lighter and sunnier and I find her actually more interesting and easier to relate to. This cd is the one that comes to my mind when I think of a backyard barbecue in the summer or when driving down the highway with the wind in your hair.

Being born and bred on the west coast I'm naturally averse to too much twang, but that is not a problem at all here. Several songs on the album are pure fun (Red High Heels, Things That Never Cross A Man's Mind, One Of The Guys) and the sweet, Dolly Parton-like sound of her voice is perfect for them. Many of the songs have a rock edge that appeals to someone like me who grew up on rock and roll in the 1980s. Girls Like Me and I'm On My Way are moving songs that are instant classics. Listen to I Wonder and see if you don't become a lifelong Kellie Pickler fan in a minute. Can anyone actually listen to this song with dry eyes?

On a side note, I am disheartened at some of the negative things that have been said about Ms. Pickler. Her early life may have been less than perfect, but that is certainly no fault of hers. To hold it against her in any way is cruel and unfair. It is a testament to her strength and her abilities that she has been able to come as far as she has given her less-than-ideal circumstances. Who is more praiseworthy--the one who is born with every advantage and achieves greatness or the one who is born with some disadvantages and achieves greatness?

In sum, this is overall a very impressive body of work that I never expected from a girl who got voted off AI. I admit that I underestimated her.

Now I just can't wait until her next cd comes out. Way to go Kellie!

3 1/2 Stars, really. A solid effort. Very Abba-esque. I loved it at first when the album came out, but it hasn't held up as well as I thought it would--just like "I Could Fall in Love With You." There are stronger songs on the album. Still, a catchy chorus (with thanks to Abba) and some disco effects make it a fun dance tune, and the remixes are nice. Good singing by Andy as always.

If film and music fans sometimes wonder why soundtracks are often little more than pastiches of past pop hits and chart flavors of the moment, it's largely due to the blockbuster success of releases like this collection from 1987's surprise Patrcik Swayze/Jennifer Grey romantic hit. The film's retro-romantic concerns came shrewdly wrapped in a (largely manufactured) dance craze conceit tailor-made for such pop chestnuts as the Ronettes' "Be My Baby," the Zodiacs' "Stay," and the Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night." Mickey and Sylvia once again argued that "Love Is Strange"--if not quite as strained as Swayze's own attempt at balladry, "She's Like the Wind." Eric Carmen's "Hungry Eyes" showcased the former Raspberries leader to good effect, but the real soundtrack sweepstakes winner here was the Jennifer Warnes/Bill Medley duet "(I've Had) The Time of My Life." With A Girl Like Me, the Barbadian teen-queen Rihanna is looking to transfer all claims of royalty to the summertime pop charts. If anybody's going to rule them, she pretty much proclaims by way of "SOS," a song no less irresistible, intoxicating, and all-out cool than 2005's "Pon de Replay," off her debut, she's it. That's not to say this new disc is anything like its predecessor overall. Where Music of the Sun was mostly what its title suggests--a romp through an anglo-friendly island with no sunscreen required--A Girl Like Me is more reflective and a little rueful; you get the sense it was crafted in part to show her range, with executive producer Jay-Z guiding her through it gracefully. "Unfaithful" is a noir-ish testing of the R&B waters, and it goes so well that Rihanna wastes no time skinny-dipping her way into the deep end--"Final Goodbye," "P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You)," and "A Million Miles Away" all betray juicy bits of Beyonce. Back in barefoot bikini-girl land, though--a territory that covers roughly half this disc--the party's still going strong. Rihanna gives dancehall legend Sean Paul a run for his money with the bouncing "Break It Off," and "We Ride" makes you want to roll down the windows and stick your head out the passenger side. I was pleasantly surprised while listening to this disc - after hearing the first 2 singles, SOS & UNFAITHFUL, I wasn't sure what to expect but this is a terrific offering of pop with a dash of the island sounds so prevalent on her debut album.

I was worried that the label was rushing out another album too quickly and that it would be horrible & filler heavy but with an "artist" like Rihanna, this is proving to be a smart tactic - she is not a great vocalist but the producers & writers she's working with ARE adept at creating catchy singles that top the charts.

In addition to the two singles, I mentioned earlier other standout tracks are: KISSES DON'T LIE - I love the bass played throughout the song; FINAL GOODBYE - I love the guitar solo, she sounds really good on this track; BREAK IT OFF - nice dance track but Rihanna sounds like a guest on a Sean Paul track; PS (I'M STILL IN LOVE WITH YOU) - nice chilled down groove; A MILLION MILES AWAY - pretty spare ballad; IF IT'S LOVIN THAT YOU WANT, PT II - I love the beats used on this track & WE RIDE - light r&b/pop track that makes good use of her vocals.

Rihanna is not a powerhouse vocalist but overall this is a well-produced, fun album that I really enjoy listening to.

This review is a little late since Lil' Miss Sunshine has brought out her third album but thought I'd get it in anyway. Coming off the major impact she had with her debut album Music of the Sun, Rihanna came back at us quickly within an eight month period with her sophomore CD called A Girl Like Me. On this album, it sticks with what made her such a sensation stateside with the dance grooves and party songs. But you can see the transition into more emotional songs and ballads to try and show her vulnerable side. Even though a couple of songs I could have done without, there were moments where she really came through.

With S.O.S. which samples from the 80s song Tainted Love, she had a great opening and hit song to draw to her album. But that only tipped the iceberg. Unfaithful took sometime to grow on me, but you can see that she was making that effort to show off her vocals and that life isn't always a party. A couple of songs that helped to do that even more was Selfish Girl and A Million Miles Away, a song based on a relationship that is on the verge of breakup and can feel each other drifting apart even when they are near one another. That was a splendid song in my opinion. She still also keeps with the Carribean flavor and upbeat feel with her beats and production in songs like Break It Off featuring one of the lead men of dancehall in Sean Paul and We Ride. The song that really did it for me on this CD and made me fall for her even more was P.S.(I'm Still Not Over You). I mean, Wow! It talks of maybe her writing a love letter to an ex and recalling moments in their relationship that she still hangs onto and how she has never really let go and may never will. It may be a true essence of what happens when we let someone that we truly care for and love so much get away, whether more than likely the one that left is the one that will be hurting the most in the long run. Truly amazing song in the way she wrote it, how the beat catches you and how the whole track just flows!

This album in my opinion is much better than her debut CD, which was a instant smash to say the least. As I said, she sticks with what got her here in the upbeat, happy-go-lucky feeling tracks but starts to take a chance in standing out on a limb with some deeper under the surface songs that come from the heart. It's a mixture that start to display what type of talent we may have on our hands. If only they would have stuck to that on her following album a little more... but for this go round, it really worked out brilliantly!

If you have heard her singles SOS, Unfaithful, We ride and you like them, you will love the album because these tracks are not the best songs on the album.For me two better tracks are P.S. (I'm Still Not Over You) and A Girl Like Me. You also have the good reggae track Break It Off feat. Sean Paul, the other reggae tracks like Crazy little thing called love and Dem Haters are ok.

The orchestral-pop hit "Iris" (from the soundtrack to City of Angels) proved the Goo Goo Dolls were no one-hit wonder with 1995's "Name." One listen to "Slide," the crafty, yearning second track off their sixth release, suggests the streak continues for Buffalo's finest. Not surprisingly, aspects that make the aforementioned songs memorable--warm, acoustic stylings; strings; heartrending hooks--also make Dizzy come alive elsewhere. Ultimately, the effort documents the band's continued migration from indie rock toward the mainstream. Thus, while "Slide" and the reprise of the wondrous "Iris" might shine for weeks (or even years) of repeated listens, attempts to keep alive the group's power-trio past often have a been-there/done-that feel. --Neal Weiss

I cannot believe I hadn't discovered the Goo Goo Dolls before! I was rather young when they released this album, but nevertheless I've recently become a diehard fan! Great rock album. For me, standout tracks consist of the extremely popular Slide, Broadway, Acoustic #3, Iris, and All Eyes On Me. And I must say, Black Balloon has to be one of the GREATEST songs ever written; it conveys so much passion! Definetely my favorite track.
I am not a huge fan of Robbie's songs at all, mostly because I find his voice rather whiny. But his instrumentals are not bad.
Without a doubt, the Goo Goo Dolls are one of the best bands of this generation.

When it comes down to Goo Goo Dolls albums, most people tend to be in 3 camps: flat-out hate the band, love the band but wish they were more hard rocking like their pre-Name days or the people that love them regardless. After the success of Name they became bigger and more popular so of course this record feels like the band making that move to the big leagues. Now my gripes are actually down to my track-by-track review: and that deals with bassist Robby Takac's songs. Now they're admirable and nothing against the guy personally but you almost end up appreciating John's songs more after listening to his so this review will only be about John's since less face it, I'd give really low marks to the other stuff.

Dizzy: A very hard rocking riff leads us off and then the chorus comes in which arguably has my favorite guitar riff John has written. The quiet bridge works well and crescendos to the final chorus. Overall, an excellent album opener. 9/10

Slide: Everyone pretty much knows it. An insanely catchy riff leads into a song about decisions about abortion? And it's such a upbeat happy sounding song? Go figure. While it's certainly one of the band's well-known songs, it might not be their absolute best. 8.5/10

Broadway: This song probably won't get the attention of Iris or Slide which is too bad cause it's actually a really upbeat and rocking track. My one gripe I guess is just that: it's a great track when you actually listen to it but otherwise you might not head straight for it. 8/10

Black Balloon: One of the best songs the band has done, period. Lyrically honest and frank with a great chorus but oddly my favorite section is that little bit before the chorus such as "that swallowed the light from the sun, it was your room, yeah!". Luckily radio didn't kill this one. 9.5/10

Bullet Proof: Some people only gives this halfway marks but this is one of their best rocker tracks with an absolutely stunning vocal performance during the chorus. I literally went "holy **** this guy can actually sing!" It's either a highlight or just merely an okay song. Personally I love it. 8/10

All Eyes on Me: Similar to Ain't It Unusual from Boy Named Goo, this is one of those kind of songs that never gets attention but it's awesome regardless. Bit low-key during the verses till it kicks into high gear for an effective chorus. 8/10

Acoustic #3: Just John, an acoustic(in standard for once) and small orchestra backing but it's effective. Some don't like it's really short length, others think it's perfect. I'm in the latter. 7.5/10

Iris: Every band worth tends to have that one signature song that they can't escape, for better or worse. Pearl Jam has Jeremy, Pink Floyd has Another Brick in the Wall Part II, Nirvana has Teen Spirit. Iris is the Dolls'. An incredibly unusual tuning but effective vocals by John. If I do have one gripe, besides the overplayedness, is the string section as it makes the song a bit too "produced". Initial listen you'll love it. 100 times later? Maybe. 9.5/10

Hate This Place: As a closer, it slightly disappoints but as a song on its own it's definately great. A straight-forward rocker that at least will get some toe tappings. It probably won't latch onto you right away and it probably won't have the impact of Naked or Here is Gone but it's still a fine listen nonetheless. 8/10

Now you'll notice it's a short review and that's because like I said, I omitted Robby's songs. Now, they're not really outright terrible but you get so wrapped up in John's that when somebody else starts it's kind of like "ugh". But there's not a single John song here that's just average so if you program your player to only play his, you'll probably have one of the better rock releases.

Most of the songs are great; I didn't know I knew them, but when I heard them, they were amazing. A couple left something to be desired, however.

If only the rating system could exceed 5 stars! This album has proved to be quite possibly the best-spent 15.00 of my life. I bought it back in 2005, having been a goo fan for years but never buying any albums. Many of the reviews on here rave about the obvious mega-hits on the album: slide, iris, black balloon, broadway, and dizzy. Don't get me wrong- these are amazing songs too! But I know that as an avid review reader, I like a breakdown of every song on an album, and not just the singles.

Dizzy - - One of my favorite songs on the album. Among my friends and I, it's called the "bi-polar" song, because the chorus is so different from the rest of the song. Fast-paced and full of emotion, the melody is great and the overall song as a whole just has a great feel to it. 4.5/5

Slide - - Oh, the famous Slide. This song has become almost a staple in 90's pop/rock/alternative. The tune is catchy enough to reside in your head all day, but there's something about it I feel I can relate to on a deeper level. Something about how upbeat the music is in contrast with the sad theme of the lyrics. Timeless song. 5/5

Broadway - - What I like best about the Goo Goo Dolls is that they produce material that everyone can identify with. The lyrics are crafted from situations that we've all experienced, to some extent. I remember reading somewhere that John Rzeznik wrote this about his alcoholic father. Whatever the meaning, this is a great, solid song with a fun chorus. 4/5

January Friend - - First song by bassist/singer Robby Takac. I'm not the biggest fan of his voice; i prefer Rzeznik's. But Robby's lyrics have a different style to them, and I have to respect it. The song is a little harder to interpret, but overall great to just let loose to. Robby has this energy to him, it's pretty infectious. Not a bad song. 3/5

Black Balloon - - What a difference in style. This song is nothing like January Friend, but somehow the transition is fine. Probably my favorite song, black balloon illustrates a story of love complicated by drug abuse and a girl who Johnny Rzeznik just can't seem to reach. This song is so deep and beautiful, and Rzeznik really shines both lyrically and vocally.

Bullet Proof - - Not a song that initally popped out at me, to be honest. But after listening to this album for nearly two years, you develop a respect for all the tracks. The guitar is great! Rzeznik's voice seems a little strained, but it actually adds to the fast-paced, almost depserate attitude of the song. Very good. 3/5

Amigone - - Robby Takac's second song. Named after a Buffalo funeral home. I don't care much for this song, but it's not one that I skip over very often, either. Robby's voice again has that infectious, upbeat attitude. Lyrics seem a little repetitive, but not annoyingly so. Okay. 2.7/5

All Eyes On Me - - This song is one of two that, I believe, deserve more recognition. Many albums today are a collection of one to three singles, and the rest of the songs are "fillers", or so-so attempts that all sound the same. This is certainly not true with Dizzy Up the Girl, and All Eyes On Me is not a filler in the least! The chorus has this incredibly real chorus. You can feel the emotion in Rzeznik's voice. What an amazing track; I'd give it 10/5 if I could (: 5/5

Full Forever - - The third Robby Takac song. Despite a mild beginning, the song picks up tempo around the one minute mark, and becomes very catchy! The chorus is backed with great guitars and Robby's raspy voice adds to the diamond-in-the-rough feel of this song. 4/5

Acoustic #3 - - The album's shortest song times in at 1:56. I've seen many a review that complains about the length, and personally I think that adding any more to the song would ruin it. It's short and meaningful, with a simple acoustic guitar and violin in the background. Beautiful message, beautiful melody. 5/5

Iris - - Here it is, the song that everyone in America was singing when the movie City of Angels premiered. It's become less of a song and more of an anthem to every misunderstood person experiencing love. The lyrics are overquoted, but it does not make this any less of a song. I want this played at my wedding. Incredible track. 5/5

Extra Pale - - I find this a rather strange song to follow Iris, and I don't really care for it. Musically, it's a good song. Takac's vocals are strong and I really enjoy the drumline. I do like the lyrics, but I just don't care much for the song. 2/5

Hate This Place - - What a great way to seal the album. This is my second favorite under-represented song. "Hold on, dream away/You're my sweet charade." The chorus is so beautiful and strong. Really defied my expectations. 5/5

In summary, if you haven't yet purchased this album, get in your car and head to your nearest walmart/target/FYE. Or scroll up and add it to your Amazon Cart. You won't be dissapointed.

Singer/pianist Diana Krall breaks new ground interpreting modern standards by Tom Waits, Mose Allison, and Joni Mitchell, as well as compositions by herself and new husband, Elvis Costello. Krall's piano-jazz cred comes through loudly and clearly on her Count Basie-styled version of the Bonnie Raitt staple "Love Me Like a Man" (written by folk-bluesman Chris Smither). But it's the collaborations with her spouse that unearth untapped emotional nuances of her velvet voice; many are reminiscent of Bill Evans's moody, impressionistic pieces. The title track, "Narrow Daylight," "Abandoned Masquerade," and "I'm Coming Through" all deal with love and loss. I have been following and enjoying Diana Krall's career since her debut at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Her amazing talent has been stunning and her ability to interpret and re-interpret jazz classics in immensely pleasing to her fans. I always wondered if she was really enjoying her gifts as much as her fans. This album reveals a multidimensional original talent, exploring her talent and finding her creative voice. I loved it the moment I heard a couple of tracks. I hope we hear many more original and collaborative pieces in the future. This seems like an intimate glimpse into the artist and is a gift to us all.

Put this CD on for an evening of great jazz. This is smooth jazz to unwind with filled with intimate feeling and sets a melancholy mood. Diana Krall has a great voice and these songs suit her voice well. A good one to have in your collection if you like to kick your feet up and relax with quiet jazz music.

In this album Diana moves past the stilted hero-worship and bland retro-staged recreations of years past, and creates her own sound. If your idea of ideal jazz is that which recreates the same arrangements, with the same songs as 1950, then you won't like it.

As a jazz musician and composer there's nothing more stifling than the idea that the genre stopped 40 years ago. Its funny to hear comments like the songs on this new album are just "pop music", when in the golden years of jazz, it *was* popular music! Jazz artists through the decades have always taken the best current songs and made them their own, even in the bop years.

Sure, there's lots of modern jazz that is "smooth" pap, not worthy of the name, but this is the opposite of that trend. For all of the complaints this album has a traditional acoustic jazz combo orchestration and sound, but with an energy and push that is lacking in her other albums.

Among producers, his name remains the simile of choice. If some hotshot studio whiz emerges in, say, hip-hop, he's inevitably labeled "the Phil Spector of rap." That's quite a statement given that decades have passed since this boy from the Bronx remodeled rock & roll to suit his own visions of grandeur. The story of the girl-group auteur is a fascinating one. Spector composed a No. 1 hit at 17 (the Teddy Bears' "To Know Him Is to Love Him," its title inspired by the inscription on his father's tombstone). By 19 he was head of A&R for Atlantic Records. By the time he was 22, he'd founded his own label (Philles) and was churning out Wall of Sound hits at an unprecedented clip, beginning with the Crystals' "He's a Rebel." The four-disc Back to Mono befits its singular subject in both presentation (the richly annotated booklet includes a piece by Tom Wolfe) and content (60 songs cut between 1958 and 1969, plus the entire classic Yuletide LP A Christmas Gift for You). --Steven Stolder

All the hits are here played back on a vintage Ampex 351 tube tape recorder by Larry Levine and Phil himself in NYC.
If you put the treble all the way up on your set, this set can sound OK.
Why the Christmas Album was put in here I'll never know.
I wish Rhino would have put this box together instead of ABKCO.

A few months ago I ordered this set for only about $20 & it is the best CD bargain I've ever had. This set originally sold for about $75 back in the 90's (glad I waited to buy it!)& I keep wondering why it's so cheap now. (Is Spector not allowed to make money on his music anymore?) It is a BIG set in an LP size box (I store it with my old LPs on my shelf),comes with a great big book printed on high quality paper, comes with the Christmas album & even a button. Only thing not big about this set is the sound quality, it's typical 80s & early 90s thin-sounding CD quality, not exactly what I'd call a wall of sound. Also the book has the lyrics to all the songs except the ones on the Christmas album. So if you can get past the fact that Spector may have killed someone 40 years after these recordings (if he did,how could he? He produced John Lennon's "Imagine" for goodness sake!)this is still some of the 60s greatest music.

When I saw the "Back to Mono" box for 20 bucks, I first thought of the barrage of criticism that greeted this set when first released more than 15 years ago and, in particular, the near universal condemnation of the absolutely horrendous digital remastering that marred what should have been an unbeatable compilation. Then I thought, "So what? I LOVED this music 45 years - AUGH! - ago! This is the background music of my life! And a great collection! And I don't have much of it, vinyl or otherwise." So I bought it.

And yes, the remastering is indeed horrible, particularly when listened to through earphones. But if you can pump this music through a tinny 5-inch speaker, perhaps boosted from a '57 Chevy, it all sounds pretty damn fine. So: don't play it on your audiophile equipment: my vintage boom box does the music all the honor it requires.

And what music. A lot of this stuff didn't chart in the New York metropolitan area, so I'd never heard several tracks, but it's all vintage, no filler, hits and non-hits, lots of Ronnie Spector and the Ronnettes, the Crystals, and fewer, but important, sides from Curtis Lee), Ben E. King, Bob B. Soxx, the Righteous Brothers, the majestic Tina Turner and that sidekick of hers, and, of course, the patented Spector Wall of Sound, complete with timpani, maracas, glockenspiels, strings, horns, full brass section, yackety sax, everything INCLUDING the kitchen sink. On the tree of rock, Phil Spector is a taproot (and Bruce Springsteen the most celebrated emulator/branch).

But let's be serious: these are very basic sentiments, harking back to a very different, much simpler time, before Vietnam, Watergate, and universal irony really invaded our consciousness (the first 29 tracks before the Kennedy assassination). The Spector chronology tracks along through LBJ's "Great Society" and civil rights legislation, Nixon, and the onset of cynicism, skepticism, and the beginning of a much more complicated social and political fabric. Through all this, we underestimate the role this and other top-forty music played in shaping our imaginations: it played, constantly, to GROUPS of people in packed cars, at parties and dances, not to one solitary listener through iPod earphones, shaped romantic vocabularies, taught kids how to say "I love you" and how to rebel against parents who screamed "that guy's no good!" My wife's parents.

In short, this music and its peer recordings helped fill in pieces of our emotional identities. In this set we hear lots of 16 year olds pouring out their hearts into diaries via girl-group doo-wop. From the Righteous Brothers, a more mature, wistful kind of heartbreak with full choirs of strings. And from Ike and Tina, my god - River Deep, Mountain High has enough emotional energy to blow a bank of Marshalls, a clear high-point on a collection of high points.

The 96-page booklet is almost worth the price of the box. I didn't need the lyrics - many of them, goofy, saccharine, maudlin, trite as can be, are grafted into my brain, courtesy of that Chevy speaker - but the photos of those wonderful, innocent, vibrant faces, the essays (one by Tom Wolfe), and the discography are all splendid.

So: if you've ever loved this music - that's a significant qualifier: my kids (all in 20s and 30s) think it's virtually unadulterated corn (with the exception of River Deep, Loving Feeling, and a few other tracks) - forget about the atrocious remastering. (I'll bet Rhino will take care of that, sooner or later, and we'll hear these in gorgeous, layered monaural.) Just buy this now while you can get all four discs, the big booklet, and the huge box for 20 dollars or less. Then boogaloo or slow-dance your baby to these legendary tunes.

With his name in the news, it is easy to dismiss Phil Spector for current accusations, but you can never deny his place is Rock'N'Roll pantheon of musical touchstones.

This collection is an absolute must have for all those who love great rock and roll and the extras in this box are phenomenal. The booklet documenting these historic recordings is amazing, as are the collection musicians that sat in on these sessions (Sonny Bono, Brian Wilson, Leon Russell, etc.).

Just having the classic recordings of The Ronettes (Be My Baby, Walkin' In The Rain, Baby I Love You), The Crystals, Darlene Love -- along with Ike and Tina Turner's "River Deep, Mountain High" (referred to by George Harrison as the greatest single ever made) and the complete "Phil Spector's Christmas Album" -- makes this collection indispensable!!!

I have no idea whether Mr. Spector is guilty of the serious charges against him, but he stands convicted of allowing his retrospective box to be released with some of the muddiest, dullest mastering in memory. Sound-wise, a total mess. Of course, many of the tracks are indispensable.

This music defines my happy days living in Austin, TX while attending The University! The Supreme sounds ROCKED the halls of my Dorm and accompanied me on many of my hiking journeys up and down the Hike and Bike Trail. Diana's soft sexy voice played in the background many dark evenings while my boyfriend (now husband) and I "got busy" in the back seat of his Chevy Convertible up on Lookout Mountain! Good times!

I really enjoyed the song quality on this CD. It has all of my favorite Supreme & Diana hits like - Come See About Me, Touch Me In The Morning & Im Coming Out.

I love Cd's that you can put on and just let play whether at home, in the car, or in the background when company is over.

If you like the Supremes and Diana this is one of the best variety of songs available.

I say give it a try & sing along ... I did.

If you love the Diana Ross music, you have to buy this cd!!! this is the best effort to compilate all the Diana's career in only one disc, and the quality of the songs (all they are remastered in stereo) is incredible!! but the best is that all the No. 1 singles from the supremes and Diana's solo single No. 1 hits are in this colection and wooow!! 24 songs !!!!; from the first hits like WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO, BABY LOVE, STOP! IN THE NAME OF LOVE and CAN'T HURRY LOVE to memorable songs like ENDLESS LOVE (with Lionel Richie), DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOU GOING TO and UPSIDE DOWN (pure disco), if you think, you can realize that you have songs from the early 60's to the late 80's IN ONLY ONE COMPILATION!!!; THEN I RECOMMEND THIS CD TO EVERYBODY!!

One advertising: some versions of this cd have the inclussion of Diana's song CHAIN REACTION (the latin-american versions like the Mexican and Argentina ones have this song), but the US version doesn't iclude this great song, unfortunately.

I bought this disc recently to add to my Supremes collection because I already knew it would sound fantastic... and it does. The remastering of these classic tracks make them sound better and more vibrant than any previously released collection. But here's the real kicker: most of these tracks appear in versions that are different than have ever been heard before!!

Hardcore Supremes fans will listen to these tracks and immediately feel a shock of revelation that they are not the same old versions that have been on compilation after compilation. Most of these tracks are newly remixed for stronger bass, more stereo separation, and now have extended endings. "Stop In The Name Of Love" for example, goes on beyond it's original fade, so that you can hear the backing track fade out while the girls keep singing until they finish cold, with one final "Stop!". "You Keep Me Hangin' On " has a longer second chorus, as well as a previously unheard cold ending. And the new mix of "Reflections" is a real eye opener, with softer psychedelic sound effects synched up from the originally released version, and an ending that continues on WAY beyond the original fade out point, with an additional coda and cold ending ( not to mention an originally deleted backing vocal in the bridge of the song )! Not every track is that radically different, but most do go on slightly longer than before, and the remastering and remixing makes them sound better than ever.

Even if you own any of the previous Supremes compilations, this collection is a must, for the alternate versions of these songs, and the much improved sound quality.

Night Ripper is a dance album both unlike any other and just like every other. That is why it is so good. It reminds me of what Warhol did with consumer goods and pop icons. Night Ripper is Pop Art at its best.

This is one of the more different DJ mixes that I have ever heard. The only down side to this CD is that most of the tracks leave you wanting more. Track 5 is so good, that it was worth buying the CD, it is a mix with Notorious BIG and Elton John, it will blow your mind.

It's not as good as the ones from 2ManyDjs but it's real close. The same idea is going on here though and it does have it's moments. The only reason I give the nod to 2manydjs is because their mashes and mixes had purpose behind them. The obvious example is mixing Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 with Destiny's Child's Independant Woman.

The mixes here work because of timing, pitch, and kitsch. The only other complaint I have would be that's it packed (imo) with too much rap.

With all that said, I haven't sat still since its been in the player. Very well worth the money to own.

I love those late night infomercials for CD packages from Time-Life, you know like "sounds of the seventies" or "AM Gold." I love those infomercials because I don't have to sit through the entire song, I just hear the best parts and it gives me a memory from my childhood. This CD takes that idea a bit further. Not only do I get snippets of songs from the 70s, but there are songs included that were popular last month. All of it is swirled together and it don't stop. I've been facinated with "mash-ups" for quite a while, but this fills all of my want to hear any others. The pace of this disc keeps my attention the whole time. I have been listening to it so much I am a little afraid I'm going to memorize it and it will become predictable. There are some highlights: Notorious B.I.G. mixed with "Tiny Dancer," and my favorite, 2 LIVE Crew "We want some P****" playing over Pavement and Paul McCartney "Silly Love Songs." I love hearing Neutral Milk Hotel counting off at some point. I love hearing Ciara mixed in. M.I.A. sounds great in there at some point too. I don't know who does the song "Kryptonite," but on here it's great. I really hope to hear more from GIRL TALK and I hope it doesn't get popular enough to get pulled, maybe I shouldn't even be writing a review. Maybe I should give it a crappy review, but it rocks!
