beautiful music.......2007-01-30

This is a brilliant album - Inti-Illimani, John WIlliams, Paco Peña? C'mon! This is music that will reward patient listeners. This is deeply soulful, social protest music. Non-Spanish speakers should try to track down the lyrics and find a way of translating them, to appreciate the meaning and the sentiment.
As for the reviewer who copies and pastes the same review for all his reviews of Inti-Illimani's discs... "...the use of this review section as a political venue to praise Allende..." - I don't think one line in a review makes it a political venue, but you have just made it into one with your few paragraphs praising Pinochet.

Let us learn to appreciate their great music without..........2005-12-30

It has been an enormous pleasure to listen to Inti Illimani for the past 20 years. Definitely great musicians and great recordings, to say the least. However the use of this review section as a political venue to praise Allende and call his deplorable and failed communist period in power exciting, and Pinochet's years "the frightening Pinochet years" (read reviews under The Best of Inti Illimani), can only come from the twisted mind of someone who still believes in 20th Century myths: the myth of Fidel Castro, the myth of Che Guevara, the myth of the proletariat, etc. Having survived 11 years in a communist country I know better, a lot better. All of us should by now. Unfortunately we do not. Look at Venezueza and now Bolivia, with the two puppets in power dancing to the music of Fidel Castro.
Frightening years for whom? For the communists and all members of the red tribe of disciples of Fidel Castro, of course. Today, to still call Pinochet a dictator and Fidel Castro "president" is beyond comprehension. Look at Chile today. Can anyone believe it could have become what it is now without eliminating Allende's regime and crushing the communists?
I give Inti Illimani an A for their music. Let us learn to appreciate their great music without praising their disastrous and failed political views. For that, they get capital F.

INTI'S MASTERWORK.......2005-11-13

I used to buy Inti's LPs when I was 12 and I was schooling in Italy.
It still remains one of my favourite musical groups of all time.
Fragments of a Dream is, simply put, their masterwork, the one where Horacio Salinas reaches the greatest heights of inspiration in a blend I would call, at times, "modern Latin American baroque".
It starts with a piece inspired by my fatherland's folk music, Sardegna, and ends with a dismantling-cum-reconstruction of the principle of the dance worthy of any great classical composer. Brilliant

Esta reunión increible de músicos en Europa consagra a los Inti Illimani como artistas de mentalidad muy abierta, pues comparten trabajo con grandes personajes de la guitarra. Horacio Salinas despierta el punto de encuentro para exponer una hermosa obra que son lo más fiel del título del album FRAGMENTOS DE UN SUEÑO, primera parte de un gran trabajo que continuará en Leyenda.

Se me saltaron las lagrimas escuchando En Libertad (son ya demasiados años fuera de mi tierra). Inti-Illimani buceando en sus raices hispanas, Inti-Illimani haciendo lo que saben hacer como pocos grupos en estos dias: crear musica con raices, de esa que te inunda el corazon de tristeza, de alegria, de melancolia, de nostalgia, de deseos de vivir.

The Spanish style of playing this music differs appreciably from the Ravelian opulence we've become accustomed to hearing from our big orchestras. It emphasizes line and edge, the scintillating spikiness of Falla's orchestration, the vigor of his rhythms. While the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada is a smallish group (with a string complement of 11-7-7-6-5), it is precisely the size one would have found playing in the pit for a performance of the ballet. Conductor Josep Pons clearly rehearsed the ensemble within an inch of their lives for this recording, and they play well. Algo diferente.......2003-11-21

Dicen que el pop juvenil en español, estoy hablando del verdadero pop y no la nueva inflación que esta saturando las radios, de estos tiempos esta en peligro pues no hay mucha creatividad. En lo personal, estoy de acuerdo. Pero en momentos de desesperación por escuchar música de buena clase y calidad, aparecen artistas como Kabah, Fey, y Aleks Syntek y me pongo a pensar que hay esperanza que el pop latino sigua brillando.

"De Noche en la ciudad" es un disco que al principio lo escuchas y te da un poco de miedo pues hay sonidos y letras nuevas. Pero como va habansando los tracks, te vas encontrando con un clase de música super maginifica. No hay nada de extraño, solo algo nuevo. La canción "De noche en la ciudad" es una canción que puedes escuchar dondequiera que estes. Con tus amigos bagabundando por el centro de la ciudad. Con tu pareja. O asolas. Noy problema como o donde la escuchas. También, es una canción super energetica para que el DJ en la disco la toque a todo volumen.

Otro canción que esta super, aunque no tan energetica como "De Noche", es "Tuve Angeles". Esta canción es una rolla que puedes escuchar cuando esta triste o alegre pues te enseñará que nunca estas solo en ningun momento. En si la canción es un himno a los seres que nos cuidad día a día: nuestros padres, amigos, lideres de nuestra iglesia, y principal mente Dios y Jesucristo. ("La sonrisa de nuestro viejos cuidandonos"). Esta song es tambien una alegoria a aceptarte tal y como eres: con defectos, triunfos, derotas, amores, desamores, sueños, y vida total.

Syntek es un magnifico ser talentoso. Como productor se lleva un 100. Como compositor otro 100. Y como cantante otro 100. Comulativamente es 100 en todo lo que hace. En este disco, "el' Syntek lo volvio a demostrar que hay talento para el rato.

Este es un super disco, no dudes en comprarlo. Vale la pena.

me dió risa cuando syntek mencionó que " Por volverte a ver " era una de las pocas baladas de los 80 que no era cursi. Pués escuche este cd y si es cursi su versión de la balada. Cuando los artistas "fusilan" o "queman" las baladas de los 70 y 80 es porque no hay creatividad y quieren aprovechar que la gente conoce las letras para hacer comercial su cd. No hay creatividad aunque syntek es un buen artista. Como se sentirán Dyango, Sesto, Raphael, Perales, José José etc? R: Preocupados por que maltraten sus canciones.

Sinceramente el disco es perfecto (arreglos, letras, sonido)
no perdio ningun detalle ALEKS, me gusta todo tipo de BUENA MUSICA y este disco ya es parte de mi coleccion.

Desde que el disco comienza no dejas de moverte...creo que es el
mejor disco del artista. Para fans y para los que buscan calidad.

Favorite Spanish Metal Band.......2005-10-20

I lived in a pueblo called Eurovillas near Madrid, Spain and one day in the nearby village of Nuevo Baztan, someone told us there was going to be a concert by a rock band. We decided to check it out. That band was Obus and THEY ROCKED! I had no clue what they were singing about, but I don't listen to the lyrics anyway, so what I heard was a unique flavor with the "articulated vocal noises" as Zappa used to say.

This is the first album I bought by them and I liked it at first listen. Every song is great and the opener, in particular, has a Latin feel to it that I can't quite describe. It is metal, no doubt, but in a unique voice. Fortu Sanchez, their lead singer owned a bar in Eurovillas where my kids used to hang out and I got to meet him a few times. A really nice guy. A great song on the album, Dinero, as it turns out, is the song that Fortu hated! I guess he got sick of singing it all the time but the kids would tell him how much they liked it!

I used to listen to this album on the way to work each day and there is not a bad song. They all rock! I saw them in concert one more time and it just seemed much better to see them and be familiar with their music. They put on a great show too. In the nineties, my daughter saw Fortu on MTV during some special about Spain.

I guess Baron Rojo is the most internationally known metal band from Spain, but my vote is for Obus!

Highly recommended!

SOPHOMORE ALBUM.......2005-08-06

Another gem of an album by this powerful spanish band,this album is very much in the same vein of their first release PREPARATE.The music is as raw and in your face as on the first one(read my review) only maybe it lacks the surprise element that was so striking on the first one.Anyway a good buy if you already have their debut and want to go for more.
