This CD features two Ventures albums from 1963.
Mashed Potatoes and Gravy was the Ventures seventh album. It was released to capitalize on the popularity of the Mashed Potatoes dance craze. After the Mashed Potatoes fad was over, the album was retitled Beach Party. The album features nine cover versions of other people's songs and three original tunes. There were no hit songs on this album. However, "Spudnik" later gained some notoriety after it was stolen by the Challengers and retitled "Surf Rider". Truth be told, the Challengers version is better, but the Ventures version is great in it's own right. The rest of the album is pretty good, too.
Dance Party was the Ventures eighth album. Rather than focus on one particular dance fad, this album is about dancing in general, although some of the songs have no obvious connection to dancing. Once again, ther are nine cover versions of other people's songs and three original tunes. No hits this time around, either, although the great "Night Rider" has become somewhat of a cult favorite among Ventures fans. The rest of the album is pretty solid, as usual.

Mike Westcott & Blues on Board does nothing but astound you. A fresh, more "rockin'" version of old Blues songs are exactly what the new generation needs today. Those that can't really enjoy blues or even those that do will love and enjoy Blues on Board. I'm on Board and if you get this album I gaurentee you will be too.

Do You Know What a Gandy Dancer Is?.......2005-12-09
Classic Ventures from the unfortunately now defunct See For Miles Record Company in England. Some immortal Ventures tunes are here, including "Spudnik," "Gandy Dancer," and the legendary "Mr. Moto." The price will only continue to escalate, so get it now! P.S. A gandy dancer was a railroad worker back in the day.
