Fight Song - Craziest 1:30 minute song out there.......2006-09-09
This album is really well done. Everyone out there should listen to the instrumental Fight Song! It has some really good drum work on the fast parts of the song, and will get you pumped for anything, especially a fight!
Fun ska at its best.......2006-07-20
I love this CD. The Aquabats have a great fun way of playing music and telling silly stories. The CD has a lot of funny songs like The Cat With Two Heads. The entire CD will have you smiling and feeling like dancing.
Easily Their Best.......2006-05-18
Although none of their albums are bad, this is by far the best one. The Fury of the Aquabats is 13 amazing songs that are hilarious and great to sing along to as well as 2 cool instrumental songs and one song im not crazy about (Attacked By Snakes). If you have the slightest liking for ska, funny music or just upbeat, fun music that makes you happy then this would easily be my number one reccommendation for you. All you need to do is pop it in and no matter how you were feeling before... you are guaranteed a smile after the first couple of seconds of Super Rad. It is just impossible to be sad when listening to these guys. My favorite songs are Super Rad, Red Sweater, Captain Hampton..., Story of Nothing, Idiot Box, My Skateboard, Lobster Bucket & Theme Song. This not only their best album but one of the best ska albums as well.
the aquabats will always be top notch.......2006-04-17
It seems like no matter what these guys come up against, they still manage to put on a great live show and release awesome albums.
The Fury Of The Aquabats is probably one of my favorite albums that the band has ever released. Even if these guys aren't on a major record label with tons of funding behind them, they put their heart and soul into the music... which fans can really respect!
If you're ready for some funky up-beat ska music, I'd encourage you to purchase The Fury Of The Aquabats today. You won't be wasting any money by investing in these guys, i promise!
My favorite and most listened to CD to date.......2006-03-15
I haven't listened to many other ska CDs, so I can't judge this compared to others; however it's a really great CD and I listen to it on a daily basis...really infectious. Especially good songs are Red Sweater and Cat With 2 Heads, though basically every song on this CD is worth a listen or 126.

Customer Reviews:
Fun CD to listen to.......2005-11-01
I can't speak with authority as to the styles of music on this compilation because I don't listen to a lot of it. The only band on this CD I'm familiar with is Dropkick Murphys, but I bought it to try something different and for the most part enjoyed it. Not every song is a keeper, but most are good to listen to. I liked the Murphys song as well as the ones by Hepcat, The Business, Voodoo Glow Skulls and Swingin' Utters. There is a nice mix of punk and ska and I'm sure other styles I don't know the terminology for. It's a strong compilation and a good way to try out new bands and new musical styles.
Punks Learn How To Loves Ska On This CD!.......2004-05-22
As we all know that Hellcat records is owned and runned by Lars from Rancid. Well being a punk, I know that right now, all that is considered 'punk' is either A)This main-stream crap which sucks badly or B)All these emo and hardcore/metal bands appearing in the underground right now. So being a dude waiting for some new punk band to change everything in the punk genre...they havent made it.
So for these past few weeks I have been I've been looking over some ska-punk and punk-ska bands. So I thought, I'll look into real ska bands....let me tell there are literally thousands of them out there waiting for some dude/dudette to be favored by. I had no clue where to start on picking out albums to buy. So most people look into comps for samples. And then I came across this little prize of joy.
Give 'Em The Boot Vol. 1 is probably the best ska comp that includes awesome punk bands too. Though the first track by Rancid wasn't their best. When the Slackers came on with 'Watch This' I felt so relaxed. When Hepcat's 'Dont Wait' came on I was already singing along. By the time The Pietasters 'New Breed' was playing I was up dancing. I won't list the other bands and songs, but most punks and people only hear about bands like Reel Big Fish, Less Than Jake, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Operation Ivy, and The Suicide Machines. Though, those bands are considered to be the only good ones, screw you! There are tons better ones. Plus, all those bands have sold out or lost almost all the orginal members.
But over-all kids, stop listeing to the things considered punk(as in sell-outs or emo/hardcore bands)get your soul out there and be a rude boy. So if wanna get to know good ska bands buy this CHEAP cd!
Punks should steer clear, but SKA FANS LISTEN UP!!.......2004-01-08
(For those of you unfamiliar with the Give 'em the boot series, it is a sampler series of bands on the Hellcat Records label. The label has an eclectic mix of punk/hardcore bands and ska/reggae/dub bands)
Now that that's out of the way...
Here's the deal:
1. With the possible exception of Rancid and Choking Victim, the punk bands on Hellcat Records suck. It's boring, unoriginal, and not even that aggressive.
2. The ska/reggae/dub bands, however, are EXCELLENT and amazing. It's very mellow and relaxing, yet very exciting and catchy. It should have you dancing along in no time.
3. Of the 3 titles in the give 'em the boot series, the 1st one (this one) has the least punk and the most ska.
4. Therefore, this is the best Give 'em the boot by FAR and with its dirt cheap price, you have no excuse for not owning it if you consider yourself a fan of ska in any way, shape, or form.
Get 'em.......2003-09-21
This album and it's brethren are an excellent way to be introduced to a lot of cool bands. I've gone out and bought a number of albums based on what I heard here and on Vol. II + III. If you like punk and ska with a dash of psychobilly, then this is your teaser!
Intro: Mandatory.......2003-04-22
This comp set the ska/punk record straight in 97 and set the tone for the next several years... what a Loud Hard Fast tone it was. I ahve shared this common experience with many new friends from all parts of the country: getting this comp and having our minds blown back in the day.

Mediocre Record from a Mediocre Band........2003-12-17
This is a listenable album, but it didn't win any records, and it didn't deserve to. This is a basic start by Home Grown, the recording quality is poor, which is probably its best atribute (making it sound like an older punk record), and the songs arn't really that catchy. "Surfer Girl" is easily the albums best track, but it sounds too raw and unfinnished, almost as though it was rushed in order to get on the album, this song is, however, brought to justice on the bands second record "Act Your Age." If you are planning to buy a Home Grown record I suggest "King's of Pop," an all together much better record, but be warned the voices of the band's two vocalists become intolerable after a few listens!
GREAT CD TO ADD TO YOUR COLLECTION.......2003-01-18
That's business is one of the best albums I have. Before I bought this cd, I wanted to get Act Your Age first because I heard it was great. So I went to Sam Goody's and they didn't have it. They had That's Business, so I decided to give this album a try first. I am so glad I did. This is a very talented band. Song after song is a hit. One of the best punk/ska albums you can buy. Get a job, The Hearing Song, She Said, Alternative Girl, and Wanna-Be are great songs to start out the cd. But the stand out song on this cd is Surfer Girl. Its very different from all the others. The music to the song is written very well, including the stuck-in-the-head lyrics. After Surfer Girl, the cd keeps it up with its ska fast paced songs like Ubotherme, and Face In The Crowd. There are absolutely no filler songs on this album. But there are some weak songs that don't do as good as the rest like One Night Stand, Employers Market, and S.F.L.B. This is long album too but not too long to get bored with it. The bonus track at the end of S.F.L.B. is worth listening to. Its all instrumental but very awesome. Well, I guess that's my review. I hope you will consider to buy this cd. You will be very happy you did. Rock on.
this cd kicks ***.......2001-04-30
This is the best punk/pop cd you will ever listen to. The lyrics are catchy ,and the music rocks. SOngs like "Surfer Girl" and "My friends suck" rule. This cd is totally worth your money.
love this CD.......2000-03-14
this is a great CD. Not only are these guys great musicians, but they are hilarious as well. Also, check out all of their other CD's
GREAT CD....DEfinatly worth your money.......1999-10-15
This is an awesome CD. These guys are absolutley hilarious. They write really good (not to mention totally original)lyrics about being a teenage guy. All the songs on this CD are great, esp. "Surfer Girl," "The Hearing Song," "Get a Job," and "Alternative Girl." Buy this now!! If you don't like Home Grown there is something wrong with you....

Punk rock has long been known for its short, loud, and snotty anthems, but this is taking things to extremes. None of the songs found here reaches the one-minute mark. Some are among punk's most esteemed anthems, while others are casual additions to the canon. In either case, even if you don't like one tune, well, there's another one coming in just a few seconds. This isn't the best introduction to these bands. The Descendents, for example, are punk-pop titans who and not at their best when aping the hardcore set. However, where else can you find Less Than Jake, Nerf Herder, Blink 182, Green Day, the Mr. T. Experience, Gwar, the Circle Jerks, D.O.A., Agnostic Front, and the Muffs all on one CD? There's no shortage of top-shelf names here, and more than a few surprises will keep you hopping. --Rob O'Connor

Frickin' Brillant.......2007-05-29
I first heard this album in the Wherehouse, while I was looking around for some CD's. I had no idea it was--and neither did the cashiers, when I asked--but, I was instantly intrigued.
Weeks later, I finally managed to snag a copy of this CD. It is nothing short of brillant. It has 101 30 second songs--what other compilation does that? It also has intense variety from new school pop-punkers like blink-182 and the Offspring, to old school punks like Bad Religion, the Descendents, and Black Flag to awesome bands I had never heard before--namely, the Dance Hall Crashers and H20 (Ha... I love their song on here). It is the epitome of punk samplers anywhere. However, not every song on here is good, and is just screaming. It's fun! It's short! What's not to love?
Note: But be wary about doing anything after you listen to this CD. You're attention span will be shot.
Short form punk - yeah!.......2007-03-23
This is one of my favorite punk compilations and I'll tell you why. First, the ultra-short form means that each band's contribution is condensed down to its essence, giving you the most bang for the buck out of each song. Second, it's got many of the best punk bands around: the Circle Jerks, Nerf Herders, Lagwagon, All, and the Misfits are some of my faves. Third, it gives tantalizing snapshots of bands I didn't already know, meaning I get to buy more cds.
Overall, this cd comes off as lighthearted and fun, unlike so many comps that have a "message". Short music really stands tall for me.
Infectious!.......2006-10-08
The first listen you will be unimpressed. The second you will be intrigued. The third, you won't be able to get these 30 second songs out of your head! This CD is fun, in a decade when music takes itself way to seriously.
hot shelf.......2006-02-06
Okay guys, this cd is awesome, I heard that there was a super rare vinyl pressing of this, but I mean, is that for real? Anyways, yeah you should buy this cd, it's kinda wierd saying this, but it sounds... dated. Yeah I know it's only seven years since this came back and most of this bands are still around (and putting out some lame albums) but even the bad bands seem to put some good songs on this joint! No joke. I can listen to the whole thing through and through cause it has shoit songs... I don't see why you wouldn't get it, I mean it's a classic comp, I wish there'd be more like it, you know like an updated thingee. Oh yeah the Ataris song is suprising to my liking, it's all about those lame bands that the radio STILL plays even though it's been like (oh eight or so) many years since that song was written. Blah blah blah... anyways, I think fat wreck should put out short music volume 2, I mean what is wrong with that, it must have been hell getting this together though, I don't doubt em for not doing it again...

Very Nice Punk Compilation.......2001-05-29
Good punk compilations are hard to come by nowadays, with the latest submerging of pop/punk i.e. Blink 182. This compilation is a very good one for fans of the old punk and some of the better new punk. It features all the classic punk bands, such as, Suicidal Tendencies, The Vandals, X, Black Flag, Social Distortion and The Muffs. There is only a couple things bad about this, and those are that, one, the disc doesnt contain The Misfits or The Ramones, two of the best punk bands ever. This is an absolute atrocity (sp). Also the other bad thing is that some of the punk bands on this disc I have never even heard of, they could have put Misfits in place of The Stooges and The Ramones in place of Agent Orange. But still even with these two flaws the compilation still stands out as the best punk compilation so ever.
you NEED this!.......2000-06-15
All i have to say about this cd is wow! this is probably one of, if not the best compilation. The mix of the vandals, the ataris, suicide machines, mxpx, social d, less than jake, it's amazing, its like the best cd i own, so my suggestion is that you go buy it now, if even only like punk a little, this is for you

PUN K 4 THE TRUE.......2000-06-14
ok, so i'm using my mom's name. SHUT UP. this CD is a MUST for *chuckle* "beginners" in punk music, and to the diehard fans. personally, i love this CD and refuse to go anywhere withouth it. it has all the essentials: Bad Religion, MxPx, Black Flag, Les Than Jake and more. its a good buy for havin' a whole lotta bands, but it could've had better songs by some of the bands. that's the only reason i didn't give this a '5' talk 2 u lata, tyler "Lexicon Punk"

Customer Reviews:
best compilation i own.......2003-05-13
This cd is the best compilation i own. It has a devils brigade song called vampire girl. devils brigade is a psychobilly band which is everyone in rancid except for lars. it also has good tracks from tiger army, lars and the bastards, nekromantix, rancid, distillers, agnostic front, dropkick murphys and some other this compilation is awesome but at the end theres some ska i dont enjoy too much. this cd also contains 2 videos you can watch on your computer. one is dropkick murphys - spicy mchaggis jig and the other is tiger army - cupids victim. this is a very good compilation its well worth 5-6 bucks.i hope they come out with give em the boot 4.
good mix.......2002-12-12
give em the boot 2 had a lot of reggae & ska on it & this one is more punk rock, which is good. the bands on it were really good and i pretty much liked every song (the joe strummer one was kind of weird...not like the clash at all). i would recommend it especially since it's so cheap.
Another in a great series.......2002-09-15
Hellcat Records has turned out another great compilation. I must say that it sounds a little harder, the music a little less melodic and more hardcore. That's just fine by me. The music videos are a nice touch. "The Spicy McHaggis Jig" video is one of the funniest videos I've seen in a long time.
Good work, Tim!
Not as good as Give em the boot 2...........2002-05-23
I was excited when I saw that their was a new Give em the boot compilation out, as Give em the boot 2, is one of my favorite cd's ever. Although when I played this cd I was sad to hear that the reggae and ska sounds that where on Give em the boot 2 have been substituted for a straight ahead punk compilation. Not to mention that the quality of songs on this album, are nowhere as good as the tracks selected for the two previous Give em the boot cd's. If you are going to get a Give em the Boot cd, buy the second installment, it is much better...
In a word: Disappointing........2002-04-02
Give 'Em The Boots I and II are punk-rock neccessities. Sprinkled with ska, reggae and rocksteady, they were truly palatable for those of us with eclectic tastes. Sadly, Give 'Em The Boot III purifies itself of most of the reggae and ska from it's two previous outings, leaving us with a punk rock wasteland. The songs here just simply aren't up to Hellcat's high standars. There are a few good moments (The Slackers' BRILLIANT "Information Error", the Tiger Army video) but that is outweighed by a parade of messy and talentless punk rock. Even the Rancid track is anemic.
Although, for [the money], "Give 'Em The Boot III" isn't much of a gamble. Still, it's been three years since Vol. II, and III frankly falls flat on it's body-pierced face.

What the..........2006-02-18
...Good Charlotte and Sum 41? Um...does anyone else think that the Warped Tour has really let its pit monkeys down this time around? At least we've got Alkaline Trio, Flogging Molly, The Lawrence Arms, and Swingin' Utters on here. But damn...you really shouldn't be representing the mohawk-sporters with bands like Good Charlotte and Sum 41 on your CD, there, Warped Tour.
Good comp........2005-02-20
This CD is an intresting mix of Big bands/legends(NOFX,Alkaline trio etc...) and some smaller noname but awesome bands(Destruction made simple,Avenged sevenfold, and Sloppy meat eaters). They also got it good on the metal count this year with The used, Throwdown (favorite),A7X,and from autumn to ashes. Overall buy this album (7 buck).
AAHHH.......2004-12-02
A7X is awesome!!! best band in the world!! listen to them!!! they rock!! and they're hott!!! especially zacky vengeance and matt shadows!!
IS IT LIVE?.......2004-03-12
On this cd are the songs live or just right off the cds?
"50 songs, but I'm not complaining".......2003-07-18
This CD is a confusing mix of punk bands, from pop-punk's Sum 41 & Good Charlotte to punk favorites Alkaline Trio, Vandetta Red, & The Casualties to bands that I've never even heard of such as Unsung Zeros, Ozma, & Destruction Made Simple. I reccomend this CD if you're looking for new bands to like & listen to. Although it's a confusing CD, it gives you new ideas of just how deep you're going to go in the punk underground.

Thirteen artists pay homage to the legacy of modern ska-punk forefathers Operation Ivy, the Berkeley, California quartet (1987-1989) that launched an army of imitators in later years. (Op Ivy's Matt Freeman and Tim "Lint" Armstrong continued their Clash worship by founding Rancid in the early 1990s.) While most of Take Warning remains faithful to Op Ivy's bratty, hard-nosed stylings, some pranksters (notably The Aquabats) take liberties and inject some of their own personality into the antic frenzy. --Mark Woodlief
Customer Reviews:
Heard it in music class at school.......2007-02-08
The thing about this album is it is no way a punk record, just a novelty thats sorta fun to listen to if you know a lot about Operation Ivy or if you like covering good songs in stupid ways cause it's funny. All the bitter feelings aside over the non-punk covers, there are a few good attempts and I'd get it if I could bring myself to actually pay for a cd.
Different.......2006-06-28
If you want to listen to Operation Ivy, throw in Energy or Seedy or whatever. This obviously isn't Operation Ivy, so if you like their songs but don't mind hearing them played differently, then give this one a chance.
Indeed, a lot of them are slowed down a bit, notably Smiling and Yellin' in My Ear. If you just cannot come to terms with some of these songs being played significantly slower, then this just isn't for you. I found it interesting to hear them being played so differently, and they seemed to have as much energy as the original (refraining from obvious puns here).
Anyway, I am enjoying this cd. It was also fun to read the liner notes, explaining the song choices of the various bands. It's not really blowing me away or changing my worldview, or even introducing me to new bands as I already know most of them, but it's fun.
And what did you expect from getting the aquabats to cover a song on here? It's amusing, yes, but perhaps a bit too over the top, so it was a good decision to put theirs last..
a nice mix, yet DEFINITELY not op ivy styles...........2006-02-28
not for die hard fans, but fans of other poppy, ska type stuff will love this...
LOVE sound system... i'd even go on to say that it is better than the original. That's right, I said it...
Punk songs convered by non-punk artists.... the songs are super badass, but for me, op ivy wasn't a very talented band, musically speaking... lacking in skills.
Sorry if this offends anyone, but some of these covers kick so much booty while others, wel.. just suck. I't great to add to your collection, if not for just the 6 songs or so that actually are listenable... but they are sick songs!
Don't be Ridiculous..........2005-09-09
OK, first of all I would just like to say that I am an insane Operation Ivy fan... So my opinion should be taken very seriously, much more than all of these 1 star reviews that are written by those who probably don't even own the album, and just want to insult the people who tried to make a tribute to the best band ever. Ok, first of all, I don;t like this album at all. But it's not as bad as everybody says. really, it blows but not righteously. They tried to make a tribute album and failed miserabley, but they tried, and it isn't all quite so terrible as I'd like to think. After all, it's not supposed to sound exactly like operation Ivy, but supposed to be like them in a different style.
1. Bombshell: 2/5 pretty bad, terrible way to open up album, seriously.
2.Unity: 1/5: The original was exellent, but this has all of it's life drained. Sad miserable boring song.
3. Big City: 1/5 wow, lame. terribley lame. Incredible, not a great song to begin with, but this...
4. Bankshot: 2/5 another just plain bad song.
5. Yellin In my Ear: 2/5 more crap, pretty amazing just how much dignity you can take away from a good band by recreating songs like this...
6. Sound System: 4/5 pretty good, just as good as original, and different style, the kind of thing that should be on a tribute album.
7. Smiling: 2/5 wow. really slowed this one down, what crap...
8. Take Warning: 3\4/5: I like it... nice feel, makes me feel proud to be an op ivy fan.
9. Health Body: 2/5 bad, not much more to say.
10. Freeze up: 1/5 Disgusting, makes me puke that this was once my second favortite song on the album, wow, dam you hippos!
11. The Crowd: 5/5 Incredible, my favorite op ivy song has been put another style very professionally, I love it, great track.
12. bad Town: 0/5 more like bad song...
13. Knowledge: -100/5 Disgusting. A disgrace to Operation Ivy. Hideous. A joke song, and a terrible one. Incredible how lame.
Ok, I hope this helps you understand this album... I'm sure it will, god, and to you 1 star I know nothing about op ivy and won;t give their tribute album a chance, I pity your lost souls...
Oops.......2005-09-01
the review by the kid that says this album is good, is for the album energy. This Album Blows!!!!!!!!! sorry I thought I was writing a review for Energy, my mistaske.

The best 'Boot.......2006-06-29
Of the Give 'Em The Boot albums this is simply the best and certainly one of the best punk samplers ever. It is a great mix of crusty punk and ska. It showcases the best bands that Epitaph has to offer. This is a must have for any punk or ska fan.
THE BEST SKA/PUNK SAMPLER OUT THERE (vol. 2).......2003-08-12
OK, no one's done a track-by-track review yet, so here goes:
1. Intro- Just a couple seconds of snarling cats. Yeah. -/10
2. Gang's All Here- Anthemic, enjoyable drinking song: what else do you expect from DKM? 9/10
3. Riding the Region- Also known as 'The Region' off Push 'n Shove. Great trad-ska song that'll be stuck in your head for days. 10/10
4. If the Kids Are United- There's been a lot of complaining about this Sham 69 cover, but I think it's just as good as the original. Anthemic, but really bad lyrics. 9/10
5. Nocturnal- Not a huge fan of psychobilly. At least the country influence is muted here. Pretty good song. 8/10
6. Can't Stand It- As another reviewer said, the dancehall/dub thing isn't their best. Check out their earlier stuff. 8/10
7. Tell Me What You're Feeling- Dancehall artist Mad Lion teams up with Rancid. The result: not too good. 6/10
8. Goin' Out- Decent shout-along song. Don't like this band much. 7/10
9. Bad Gadjit- I LOVE THIS BAND! Their blend of ska, blues, 1950s rock n roll is amazing. 10/10
10. LA Girl- Pretty good song, but her voice is grating. 8/10
11. X-Ray Style- Not gonna rate this one. Too unique. World music influences shine on this mellow song. RIP Joe Strummer.
12. Misty Days- Reggae legend Banton and Rancid: should've been better. 6/10
13. The Fool- Solid trad-ska from Slackers side project. Hepcat's Greg Lee sings. 9/10
14. Bruk Out- The best dancehall/Rancid collaboration. A lot of people disagree, but I love it. 9/10
15. Have the Time- Anything by the Slackers is outstanding. 10/10
16. Crack Rock Steady- YESSSS! From the streets of New York comes that crack rocksteady beat. Funny song (just don't take it seriously). Best from CV (too bad they broke up). 10/10
17. Forget Yourself- Forget this track. Forget this band. 5/10
18. Crack City Rockers- Choking Victim with a new drummer and new name. Still keepin that crack rockstaedy beat. 9/10
19. Fools Gold- Solid. Great band, but sometimes sound like Clash wannabes. 9.5/10
20. Rent for Sale- By INDK. Skwert and Ezra of CV's new band. Check em out. 8.5/10
21. Flight of the Phoenicians- Take the vocals and horns out of Hepcat's sound and you get Vanity 5. Good instrumental, but sounds a little weak. 9.5/10
22. Life Won't Wait- Excellent ska song. Great way to close the album. Buju Banton guests. "The vision is the new world order..." 10/10
I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to find some good ska and punk. However, I would've liked tracks from Pressure Point (a great oi band on vol. 1) and SOMETHING from King Django. BUY IT NOW!
The Perfect Mix.......2003-05-29
This is my favorite out of the Give Em the Boot series. I think it's the perfect mix of punk and ska, and the track selections were excellent. It's one of my favorite compilations to listen to on the road. There isn't a song on it that a generally skip, which says a lot for a compilation cd. There is great variety, but every song is good.
Not Bad-And Not Good Either!.......2002-09-11
This comp in neither good nor bad.It starts off great but kinda slowed down in the middle and it gets great back at the end of the tracks.Great songs from Dropkick Murphys,Hepcat,Choking Victim and The Slackers. If you own any song from these band, then don't buy it-but if you don't,you can purchase it and listen it once it a while.
one of the best punk rock compilations around.......2002-05-23
Of the three give em the boot cd's, this one is the best. Almost every song is good, and with the variety of styles, such as punk, reggae, and ska, it makes a good party cd. A step above the first Give em the boot cd, and way better than give em the boot 3....a must have for any punk fan.....a classic compilation album!
