Rip off.......2004-07-09
After listening to this cd for about 30 seconds i realized that the songs sounded odd......then, I read the review by 'Jon' on Amazon. That was a mistake. The CD loses a lot of oomph when not just the singer but the MUSIC is altered. Anyone who listened to these songs ad nauseum 20 years ago can detect the difference. This is pretty bad.....I mix music ( the real songs) better than this guy/group. And, what's more - nowhere on the disc or in the accompanying wrapping/liner notes/etc. does it say "musically and vocally altered versions of the original". Total waste.
Fans of 80s music will love this Jive Bunny CD.......2002-03-24
Over the years since the creation of Jive Bunny, the production team behind the concept seemed to have come full circle with their seemingly never-ending musical journey. As the title suggests, "The Ultimate 80s Party" is their first venture into that decade, and from a music fan's point of view, this is where Jive Bunny finally end their 'novelty' period. Incidentally, this is only their second full-price CD in almost 11 years which proves the quality of the product is higher than usual.
With the exception of the first three tracks, this album only concentrates on the years between 1980-1985. (Dare I say there'll be an "Ultimate 80's Party Volume 2" to follow?). However, what you're left with is 27 of the very BEST chart hits from the early 80s.
Naturally, they use 'sound-a-likes' yet again, although I'm pretty sure a few of the 'originals' were used as some performers sound uncannily like who they're supposed to be. If so, that's a first for a Jive Bunny album.
All the 'big' hits of the first half of the 80s appear on this CD. Artists as diverse as Michael Jackson ("Billy Jean"), Madonna ("Material Girl","Express Yourself"), and Prince ("1999") are all 'big enough' to sell this album on their own. However, our own home-grown talent isn't ignored with contributions from the likes of FGTH ("Two Tribes"), Wham! ("I'm Your Man"), Spandau Ballet ("Gold"), Madness ("Baggy Trousers") and Adam And The Ants ("Stand And Deliver").
Quite remarkably (for a Jive Bunny album at least), there doesn't seem to be a 'duff' track on this medley, and if there is a song you don't recognise, then I'm afraid to say you don't know your music very well. Here you'll find other great 80s classics like "Walking On Sunshine", "Footloose", "White Wedding", "Girls On Film", "Kids In America" and "Walk Like An Egyptian" amongst countless others.
It has to be said that these aren't EXACT versions of those 80s classics, but then, this IS a Jive Bunny album I suppose. That said, even the continuous dance beat played throughout to accompany each track doesn't take anything away from the original recordings. And from a Jive Bunny perspective, that's almost unheard of. "The Ultimate 80s Party" may NOT be the best Jive Bunny album on the market, yet it's standing head and shoulders above any of their other 'medley' CD's which are (more times than not) pretty average affairs. I'd have liked =to have seen more of the later 80s classics included, still, after listening to this CD time and time again, I'm hoping there'll be that second volume out soon.
"The Ultimate 80s Party" will definitely appeal to Jive Bunny fans, and those who love 80s music but are fed-up of buying the same old, ten-a-penny compilations that have swamped the market recently.
Jon.

POSITIVE: If you're a casual fan or only vaguely familiar with Berlin, this is a great primer. It's affordable, concise and has all the hits.
NEGATIVE: I'm not real big on remixes and this album is loaded with them, but for you that may be a plus. Obviously tracks 5-12 are remixes (but what of?). Tracks 1-4 are NOT the original recordings, they are re-recordings. Maybe not a big deal to you but I prefer the originals.

RE at Breeze's Metro Club Review.......2006-08-21
I had been looking for this CD for a number of years. I have the album version and I love it. I thought that the CD could have had a little more bass added, but it is still one of my favorite RE outings. The entire recording is a throw back to the late 1980's when I was a teenager and enjoying Rare Essence. Wonderful CD!!

Unadulterated Fun At Its Most Mature!.......2005-02-17
Borrowing the musical stylings of the 70s and 80s, Metro Area's self-titled debut is a fine flavour of old-school/new-school disco, married to create an amazing, unadulterated sound. Influenced by old disco, R&B, Soul and 70s pop, this cd will bring you back to the days of rollerskates, bell bottoms and Jeri curls. Highly infectious and heavily thumping, Metro Area is sure to make you want to break out those old dance moves.
ALL THE WAY DOWN...OOH, YOU MAKE MY LOOOVE...COME DOWN!!!.......2003-11-07
I'm a 70s/80s child...Growing up in the days of roller skates, break dancin', parachute pants and jerry curls. Metro Area's CD brought back a lot of fund memories of yesteryear with a whole new flava. This baby is "JAMMIN'"--to use an old 80s vernacular. I wasn't impressed at first sample, but after reading the reviews online, I decided to give it a try. The boys of Metro Area mixed the old with the new in a very stylistic way! And although they haven't reinvented the wheel so to speak, they have flawlessly mastered this style of music by making it sound fresh and reminiscent of days gone by via the use of hand claps/finger snaps, drum machines, disco gurgles and synthesizers. This is clearly a CD meant for the dance floor, but this baby can really be played anytime--Just try not to bop your head, shake that thang, or tap your feet to this one! Every song is a stand out track and a DJ's fantasy! "FUNKY FRESH!"
Morgan Geist, genius.......2003-10-16
The sort of music that needs to be felt, more than heard. The clear influence of disco makes Morgan Geist just more than the electronic musician he was on his early Environ releases. Transcending the limits of a bedroom studio, Geist has created what is one of the best dance-floor records. Let Miura take the pain away.
Throw-back update better than original.......2003-03-02
Metro Area is a rolling beat beast which seems to get its material from the 80s dance scene, minus the cheese. It is catchy, head-bobbing, and will stick in your brain for a while, much to your joy. Its the soundtrack to a life lived on martinis, gambling, and lights on the strip. If you like to go out and have a good time and you have even the slightest tolerance for 80s music, then you have to have this. It changes things.
Dissapointed.......2003-02-28
I bought it because CD Now always have sent to me the best records, with the best music, in terms of jazz contanining; I was fooled with the reviews, and I don't share that concepts; I neither think it's funk, not jazz, not good music; ok good sound, but anyway i'm really dissilussioned with the result; now I can open a spin-gym and offer that stuff to my customers. That's what i'll do.

Customer Reviews:
This is unbelievably BAD!.......2002-03-22
My advice to every single fan of Jive Bunny and the Master Mixers is to AVOID this particular CD. Taken from a time when the name "Jive Bunny" bounced from production team to production team via various record labels, this shambolic effort only cheapens what was once a very successful chart act. Because it's so unbelievably BAD, you'd be hard pushed to associate this with any other Jive Bunny release. Basically, this TERRIBLE compilation focuses on (mainly) British pop hits from the year 2000. The choice of tracks used are genuine HITS, but it's the 'sound-a-likes' that are used to re-create these songs which makes the album ABYSMAL. The only way to describe the quality of these (ahem!) singers is to imagine the WORST karaoke singers imagineable, but only after they're very, VERY drunk. If these uncredited vocalists weren't ashamed of the end results, they damn well should be! The mixing qualities also leave a lot to be desired, and those responsible should hang their heads in SHAME if they ever call themselves production mixers again. Only to be bought if you're interested in purchasing the entire Jive Bunny back catalogue to complete the set. Otherwise, avoid this like the plague!!
Jon.

Don't let the lack of air play fool you........2007-05-15
This album didn't get nearly as much attention in the states as the debut album 'The Sign' did, but if you were a fan of that album you'll probably like this one as well. The album is catchy throughout and there are a few great tunes on there as well. Overall I felt is was on par with their first album in most every respect other than the lack of promotion and sales relative to their first record breaking album.
I highly recommend this great album!.......2006-09-13
Ace of Base came out of nowhere in the early 1990s, and swept to worldwide fame. Their first album, The Sign, is in the Guinness Book of Records as the best selling debut every, with 23 million copies sold. Their second album, The Bridge (1995) was another great album, which sold over 5 million copies - OK, it's a lot less than The Sign, but it's still the kind of sales most bands only dream of.
The Bridge was a great album, with lots of great tunes, including a couple of my favorites - Beautiful Life and Que Sera. This particular CD is a Japanese reissue that has the album's original sixteen tracks, plus two extras! Overall, I found this to be a great album, with great sound, and even better performances. If you like Ace of Base, then this is a great album that you should buy. I highly recommend this great album!
Beautiful recording.......2006-07-22
This summer has definitely led me to rediscover some old music favorites of the 90's. One of these rediscoveries has been Ace of Base, and particularly, their second album THE BRIDGE. I actually got this for Christmas back in '95, but I think I was just too young to truly appreciate the quality of this album. It seemed that back then I would just listen to the album until maybe track 9 and then change the CD. I am glad that now I've realized what gems songs like "Angel Eyes," "Experience Pearls," and "Que Sera" are. It is also very nice that Jenny and Linn's vocals are much clearer here than on THE SIGN, not to mention the huge improvement in song writing. It is a shame this album didn't become as popular as THE SIGN. Out of their three albums released in the U.S., this is absolutely their greatest one.
Some creative pizzazz and what not.......2006-05-24
Beautiful Life- Talk about an optimistic song! Ace of Base songs are fun, and they are not likely to be so deep because they only like happy stuff. This album is an interesting effort as they try to use some middle eastern influence throughout the album, and they throw in some songs with great melodies and intersting production
value.
Beautiful life, the piano melody is bright, shiny, and iridescent. The beat is nice. They need to try some more faster songs like this, or go even faster. The people who did not like this song probably hated how it was overly happy, but one can really enjoy the bright, crisp melody and the uptemp beat on this number.
Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry, I'm surprised it was released as a single. The lyrics are corny and not that great, and the production is unique. I guess they just wanted to try to seem more versatile with this release. The video is a rock remix, which does not really sound better or worse, just a bit different. Basically, there is just more base.
The Lucky Love acoustic song is a great addition to the album. I personally like the produced version better, but there is nothing wrong with the acoustic version.
Edge of Heaven I love almost as much as Wheel of Fortune. It should have been their 3rd release. Definitely better than Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry. The only reason I like WOF more is because of the sound effects right after "hatched baby." The sounds are like a really short plucky duck I guess. You'd have to hear it. Edge of Heaven has a soothing pop melody with touches of Arabic sounds throughout to make it sound cool, but not too traditional. It still sounds modern, and that is what makes this song stick out. I think it's a great melody combination. The lyrics don't really say much, but I like how they attempt to tell a story. "Edge of Heaven" really sounds like a very brief catchy phrase for me. It has enough of what I like to make it a great song.
Strange Ways has a nice moderate beat with Obvious middle eastern influence again, but the melody was kept the same too much to make it a potential hit probably.
Ravine stars Jenny as the main creator and singer. It's a personal song with deep meaning for her about realizing that just because she became so big time popular does not mean she has to become a snob. The song shows that she learned her lesson, and that she now tries to enjoy her life for what it is and being nice to others simultaneously. It's one of the few Ace of Base songs which sound darker, but still have hope. I'd like to hear some more darker songs even if they are fake, to keep more interest in their songs. If all their songs are always too happy go lucky, then it seems too corny.
Perfect World has a catchy partially pop, partially techno tune. After awhile though, there's something about this one that just makes me feel like the tune is no longer catchy enough, and the lyrics flatten out on me as they repeat. Repeating lyrics can be okay, but in this case, there's no real good story, and not much of a "coolness factor" like in Wheel of Fortune. The song is basically about how a perfect world cannot exist because otherwise no children would be crying, but they are laughing, people are falling in love everywhere, and that time would "stand still" meaning that it would not really mean anything.
Angel Eyes holds beautiful production. It's a love at first sight ballad.
Deja Vu is about someone who loves someone else so much that it's an obsession. A poppy melody with a Spanish guitar. A different and great effort by Ace of Base, and being one of the "sticker songs" on a 5 song sticker, they were considering this instead of Never Gonna Say I'm Sorry. Not a bad song at all, it just may not have had the sound/mainstream sound many people want.
Wave Wet Sand is a play on the Don't Turn Around video. Any Acer (ace of base fan/fanatic) can figure or already knows this. I like the sequel idea, even though the song doesn't hold any water for potential hit power. There's nothing really striking about the sound, but the poetry of the lyrics is pretty good for trying to describe a person's feeling after the break-up in Don't Turn Around.
Que Sera may have been a good release in France or Canada. I don't know how foreign countries who don't have French would take this song, even though "que sera" simply means "what it's going to be," in which the English phrase is also sung.
Just N'Image I love personally. It's a song Lynn did on her own, and it has a great rhythm and production to it. The lyrics are neat with little things like "Mr. Pain" and rhymes such as "lying on the floor, crying needing more." What people don't seem to care about the song if they don't like it is either the production isn't anything interesting to them, or the lyrics don't really say anything overall besides that some mean stranger is begging for forgiveness or power and prestige, and it is about ignoring the mean person.
Experience Pearls is one of my least favorite Ace of Base songs. In Your Mind is worse, because this attempts to have some sensibility and creativity, and actual music in it. The phrase "experience pearls" is dumb because you cannot "experience" a pearl literally. Of course, it's meant to be taken figuratively,
Since pearls are beautiful and precious, by "experiencing" them you are enjoying goodness in life rather than being very untrusting. It's an interesting subject to tackle, but it comes off as quite awkward. Also, "pearls of experience" sounds tacky like it's thrown in there to make the song sound a bit better, but doesn't really mean a lot to me.
I don't get the "trees are whispering" part in Whispers in Blindness. But for most people turned off by this song is due more to the production of it. The production is dark sounding and kind of boring as it does not change. It does not change because it fits in well with the lyrics and follows the flow of the lyrics well.
Blooming 18 is another Sticker song, and an interesting techno marching song. Takes the ideas of Young and Proud, and incorporates some witty lyrics such as "You tattoes yourself like a piece of art You've already broken your mother's heart When I was your age, working my ass off Your generation's soft." "Reality" is repeated too much in this song, but otherwise maybe would've made for a very interesting release.
Bridge ~ Ace of Base.......2005-09-15
Bridge~ Ace of Base being their sophmore album is a very nice pop album with lyrics are ok if a bit poorly written at times. However, their vocals are quite polished and the synth sounds are quite well picked even though the drum sounds sound a bit to midi like. The cover is as far as the photo but the clothes they wear are boring and look like they all shopped at H&M and they look typical boring and so Swedish. Even so this album has some nice tracks like beautifull life and lucky love to mention a few.

Mildly Amusing.......2006-09-04

just straight music...nothing new...nothing fun...just average vocals with average music. I have heard other Beatle impersonators do mixes and I DO love the Beatles but...I will be selling my copy soon.
For Water Aerobics, worth playing to supplement the real Beatles.......2005-08-19
(1)
The obvious question is, if you already own "Beatles 1," "Beatles 1962 - 1966," and "Beatles 1967 - 1970," why bother with this CD, even for water aerobics?
The answer is: Because in the environment of water aerobics:
(a) These songs are done well enough to pass as the original songs,
(b) No single Beatles CD has this many good songs,
(c) Some of this CD's songs are simply not on any of "Beatles 1," "Beatles 1962 - 1966," and "Beatles 1967 - 1970," and
(d) The beat is much more distinct, and the fidelity (sound quality) is better, than the original (real) Beatles recordings.
(2)
Here's how Jive Bunny Beatles songs compare to the originals:
(a) The quality does vary from song to song.
(b) All vocals are at least Grade A- imitations. However, they skimped on the instrumentation, which overall I give a C+. Since the voice is key, the average song overall rates about a Grade B.
(b) "She Loves You" is about a D+, because it sounds as if Jive Bunny left out an instrumentation track or two.
(c) Note that the beginnings and ends of the songs can charitably be described as abrupt, due to each song blending into the next for about a second or two. This is fine if you play the songs in order.
(d) Some of the songs are significantly shorter than the originals. For example, "Magical Mystery Tour" is only 1 minute and 4 seconds long. Nine of the songs are less than 2 minutes long, and the longest song is only 2 minutes and 37 seconds long. However, in the environment of water aerobics most people, including myself, consider this as much an advantage as a disadvantage, and the essence of each song is captured.
(e) For what it's worth, each song is has a slightly faster beat than the song before it.
(3)
In summary,
(a) This CD is how I'd expect the Beatles to sound live (and unedited) were we able to magically transport today's recording technology back to them.
(b) For water aerobics, it's worth playing in addition to the real Beatles songs.
Not A Bad Effort At All....................2002-03-24
Similar to the ABBA tribute album, Jive Bunny and the Master Mixers have assembled a group of sound-a-likes to produce an introduction to some of the Beatles' best known tracks.
Because it's a non-stop medley album, some Beatles' fans will be angered to hear their favourite band receive the Jive Bunny treatment. Despite that, I recommend this album for those who haven't heard the Beatles before (is there anyone??) as a taster of what they can expect.
"Jive Bunny Plays The Music Of The Beatles" won't win any awards for success, still, it's not a bad album either. Coincidentally, this album -- along with the ABBA tribute -- is the first two releases in a forthcoming 'tribute' series.

Customer Reviews:
A reasonably good party medley CD.......2002-03-24
As far as tribute albums go, Jive Bunny has done a pretty good job recreating the sounds of ABBA with this party album.
All ABBA's best-loved tracks are featured in this non-stop medley, and surprisingly, the sound-a-likes used on the CD seem to be the original group (which, of course, they're not!).
I guess you'd have to be a real ABBA fan to appreciate this CD fully -- it isn't something I could play over and over again. Still, with their popularity still at a high, "Non Stop ABBA Party" would be a worth while addition to your CD collection if you don't want to go to the expense of purchasing one of their greatest hits albums.

OH YES, THIS IS A MUST!!!!.......2007-02-09
if you are into finding out where these hip hop artists get their beats from, then this provides a small, but essential source when it comes to that. i love hearing something funky from aaron neville. i also love the original version of YES WE CAN CAN. gotta love that meters thang there. what got me though was that one naughty by nature used for HIP HOP HOORAY. that did it for me because it reminds me so much of HEARTBEAT. this will getcha movin' like a good bowl of buttery grits in the mornin'. grab this and see.
