This is a great compilation of Donna Summer's works. If you're old enough, it'll take you back to your youth and fun times at the disco.
I thank the powers that be for this gift and reminder of how great Donna Summer is.

5 out of 5 stars very best of donna summer.......2007-05-14

its a double cd and it is excellent listening. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes fast music.

4 out of 5 stars I Luv Donna.......2007-04-06

Excellent CD! Donnas voice is timeless. The second CD is all 12" dance mixes. I forgot how great the MacArthur Park Suite was. If They included the Hot Stuff/Bad girls Mix (Anthology) in the CD, It would have got 5 stars from me!.

5 out of 5 stars Donna Summer Rocks!.......2007-01-10

Donna Summer is a Diva of all times. I listen to this CD
over and over again. Her vocals are outstanding and her music

It is a perilous proposition when genres clash--and no such collaboration is more potentially fraught than when improvisation-trained folk musicians sit in with Western classical instrumentalists, who are taught to interpret a printed score. The renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma has devoted much of his professional life to such intercultural experiments. But the traditions of nations situated along the ancient Silk Road, which began in the Far East, meandered through Asia and terminated in Europe, are especially dear to him. These lushly arranged pieces range from moody scenic vistas to percussive Turkish hip-shakers and they make very pleasant listening. If they owe more to the European canon than the ethnic sources that inspired them, they are also the result of respectful give-and-take between a team of acknowledged masters. And nobody is more of a team player than Maestro Ma, an impassioned, fearless musical seeker and a gracious, deferential colleague. --Christina Roden

5 out of 5 stars delightful experience.......2007-07-04

this collection of music is quite a cultural experience. I've been hooked since I opened the cover!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Compilation with Marvelous Tracks.......2007-01-20

I enjoyed this compilation of Silk Road music very much. It delivers a nice, diverse sample of music from the region. My favorite track of the CD is Shikasta, but I like the others as well.

5 out of 5 stars Beyond the first Silk Road CD.......2006-11-23

Yo-Yo Ma went beyond indeed. The first CD with Silk Road ensemble (When Strangers Meet) was inconsistent and somewhat experimental. This one however, is superb. As if in the 5 years the musicians got to know each other (but in truth, only a few musicians are the same). 23 traditional Eastern instruments are listed plus a number of western strings and other percussion was used. So the music on this CD gets my full attention, and as the title of first track suggests, you (can) get enchanted.
The tracks are ordered into three parts: Enchantments (1-5), Origins (6-9) and New Beginnings. First track is strangely familiar (like it was used in some film, but there is no mention of this). In third track this theme gets Chinese interpretation. The style from one track to the other changes, so you can't get bored or overexcited. Second is simply very nice, the fourth great intro of Armenian wind instrument duduk (played by famous Gevorg Dabaghyan), accompanied by percussion mostly, albeit the piece is short. 5 is gentle with cello and xun (Chinese ocarina), 6 orchestral from slow to cool, 7 again gentle with cello and vocal, 8 starts with yearning duduk and turns into orchestral battle, 9 cello and percussion. Track 10 is the only one with prominent vocal (love song) and introduces us to the last part of CD, which are more like jam sessions of all instruments. 11 and 13 are very lively. The last one, track 15, brings us a new interpretation of very ancient Chinese melody played on pipa.

Some would probably say this CD is commercialized. Personally I don't see any wrongdoings in this as long the music stays a high quality one. For the more authentic Silk Road one can always buy The Silk Road: A Musical Caravan.

5 out of 5 stars Excelent!!!.......2006-01-15

One of the best concerts I attended in my life (so far... :-)...)

5 out of 5 stars One of the Best !.......2005-12-06

This album has captured the soul of the Silkroad. There is not a single track in this album I don't like. I've been listening to it over and over and over again since I first got it. I think it's much better than the first one.

    Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Hed Kandi Beach House 2007 goes well after this compilation.......2007-07-23

This is not the best Euro Dance compilation I have purchased this year but it does hold me out until the next Ministry of Sound Annual 2008 compilation. I have heard most of the tracks on this double disc on other compilation but it is nice to hear some stand out tracks like Booty Luv's Shine and Rise Up. There is a good section of beat music, which is not really my taste, but they are not so repetitive as to have me press Fast Forward. The lyric driven songs, however, are on point. A good listen while at work or commuting.
Do not buy the US version of any Ministry of Sound compilation as the track listing may differ significantly. I rather pay extra for the import version.

Fantastic Dance Music and a Spectacular Voice is what you get from Donna Summers!!I own the very best 2 disc and I recently purchased this Gold collection and I highly recommended it if your a Big Donna fan Like me.Its worth the 20$$$!!by the way she's also Attractive!!!

4 out of 5 stars Hit singles compilation.......2007-01-06

There are now a huge choice of Donna Summer compilations so this one is for completists as it contains different versions of certain tracks. These were all singles, major and minor hits, without any of her classic album tracks that made some of her albums, like Bad Girls, so special. From the 1970s comes the erotic Love To Love You Baby, Could It Be Magic, Last Dance from the disco movie Thank God It's Friday, the lilting Love's Unkind, the majestic MacArthur Park and No More Tears, the duet with Streisand. And her brilliant and original fusion of disco and rock in the form of Hot Stuff and Bad Girls, two of the very best songs of 1979 in any genre.

The next decade she changed her style, creating great pop songs like Love Is In Control, the anthemic State Of Independence, the rock-pop She Works Hard For The Money, the bouncy Unconditional Love, a collaboration with Musical Youth, and then a return to dance in the late 80s style with the brilliant All Systems Go and This Time I Know It's For Real. The track When Love Cries and the following are from the 1990s and the 2000s and include the classic I Will Go With You. Although this is a good collection of her singles, I give it four stars since the perfect compilation would include some of those aforementioned album tracks like My Baby Understands, Our Love and Lucky (all from Bad Girls) and at least one track from her Christmas album.

5 out of 5 stars Donna Summer: GOLD (2005).......2006-11-19

In January of 2005, Donna Summer released her twenty-eighth album entitled, GOLD, a double-disc greatest hits compilation, featuring just about all of Donna Summer's greatest hits from 1975 to 1979. Sure, this album is almost a repeat to that of THE DONNA SUMMER ANTHOLOGY, but the catch is that there are more tracks to be included past the year of 1992.

    Disc One: 1975-1979
LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (Single Version)
Original version from the album LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (1975). Still an awesome song, but I definitely enjoy hearing it a lot more when it is in its full-length 16:51 (sixteen minute, fifty-one second) version. But it is still an amazing (not to mention: Orgasmic) song.

COULD IT BE MAGIC (Single Version)
Original version from the album A LOVE TRILOGY (1976). Still one of the best cover songs around. I love the Disco-Dance version of this song.

TRY ME, I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT (Single Version)
Original version from the album A LOVE TRILOGY (1976). It is obvious that the producers of this album were not going to let this song get away with coming onto this compilation in its full 18:00 (eighteen minutes). This here single version is great, but hearing the full eighteen minutes of the song is even better.

    SPRING AFFAIR (Single Version)
Original version from the album FOUR SEASONS OF LOVE (1976). Great song, but it is not in its entirety. The album version is a full 8:30 (eight and a half minutes), but I could listen to this song without any problems whatsoever.

    LOVE'S UNKIND
From the album I REMEMBER YESTERDAY (1977). A great song.

    I FEEL LOVE
From the album I REMEMBER YESTERDAY (1977). Still one of the best Disco songs.

    I LOVE YOU
From the album ONCE UPON A TIME...(1977). Another great song.

    LAST DANCE
From the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY (1978). Such a great song.

    MacARTHUR PARK (Promotional Single Version)
Original version from the single MacARTHUR PARK (1978). Another awesome song. The version you see here is the exact version to the original 8:35 (eight minutes, thirty-five seconds) version, except that this is known as the Promotional Single Version, where the last 2:10 (two minutes, ten seconds) were cut from it. Included in those last two minutes, thirty-five seconds were the last instrumental breaks and the final chorus. Still a great song.

    HEAVEN KNOWS (Single Version)
Original version from the single HEAVEN KNOWS (1978). Another great song. This version actually is not that different from the original. This track is just twenty-five seconds longer than the original. That's the big difference, really. Still a great song.

    HOT STUFF (12" Single Version)
Original version from the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Great song, and it only runs a minute longer than the album version.

    BAD GIRLS
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Great song.

    DIM ALL THE LIGHTS
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Another classic tune. I really enjoyed the way she performed this song on VH1 PRESENTS DONNA SUMMER: LIVE AND MORE: ENCORE!: starting it off with the ballad portion, but in the way Rod Stewart would have sang it (since Donna had originally written the song for Rod Stewart, where she chickened out in giving it to him), and then flowing into the dance portion of the song, which sounds more like a Donna Summer recording. Classic song.

    SUNSET PEOPLE
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Great song.

NO MORE TEARS (ENOUGH IS ENOUGH) (performed by Barbra Streisand & Donna Summer)
Original version from Barbra Streisand's album WET (1979). Great song, still the best Diva Duet I have ever heard.

4 out of 5 stars Great Compilation, except for one major flaw..........2006-09-22

Donna Summer has a great set of pipes. I don't think anyone would argue about that. However, I must say that her singing showed a bit more flair and finesse on her 80's stuff, so I disagree with the reviewer who felt her work from that period was inferior.

The glaring flaw on this collection is the HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE way they butchered "No More Tears (Enough is Enough)." The editing is so poorly done on this track that it actually sounds like it's skipping in about 3 different places. When the attempt was made, apparently, to make the "funkier" mix from Donna's record company fit into a 4-minute frame (as opposed to the more mainstream disco mix found on Barbra's), some bad editing resulted. Honestly, the track sounds like it was edited with a blunt meat cleaver. There were 2 long (album) versions of this song, and the mixes from the artists' respective record companies sounded very different except for the vocal tracks. In my opinion, the mix found on Streisand's "Wet" album is superior because their voices don't get washed out by those twanging guitars, and the editing is much better. I'm sure you all know that the short version of the song was edited from the longer and was not specially recorded for the radio market. This is still a common practice today with club songs.

Other than that, the rest of the sound is extraordinary, in my opinion, and I have picky ears.

If you don't mind having the radio or single tracks as opposed to to the club mixes, buy this. Even if you already have most of the single mixes, you may want this anyway due to its above-average sound quality. If you're an avid Summer fan, you'll definitely want this regardless. If you're looking for a listenable version of "No More Tears," you'll find that on the aforementioned Streisand album or one of Summer's other anthologies containing the full version. Even the radio edit found on Streisand's "Memories" album is far superior to this one.

Money well spent in any case.

    Cheers!

    Amazon.com Music Reviews

The queen of disco--known now for her fundamental conservatism but then known for her extended sex romps that pulsated as minutes turned to hours--Donna Summer recorded a series of hits that playfully courted decadence and consistent chart success. The versions here are the shorter 7" versions. So if looking for the full 16-minute version of "Love to Love You Baby," look elsewhere. But what is here is '70s disco at its peak: "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls," "Last Dance," "On the Radio," "I Feel Love." The kind of stuff that makes weddings and frat parties what they are. --Rob O'Connor

5 out of 5 stars Good Starter for your Disco/Dance Collection.......2007-03-13

From album, to cassette, to cd and beyond, this is one collection of hits I always want available for listening. Beyond all the other reviews, you must remember that disco still exists today, but it called dance. Donna Summer has influenced so many different artists, in all genres. If you don't know much about Donna Summer, this is a good starter collection.

5 out of 5 stars Donna Summer: ON THE RADIO: GREATEST HITS VOLUMES I & II (1979).......2006-11-16

In October of 1979, Donna Summer released her ninth album entitled, ON THE RADIO: GREATEST HITS VOLUMES I & II. This album is to be first-ever greatest hits compilation, as well as being her last album of the 1970s. This is a great album, featuring fourteen of Donna's greatest hits, as well as a new studio track.

    ON THE RADIO
New song. From the original motion picture, FOXES (1979). The first & final single from the album. This is an awesome song, and I pretty much tear up the dance floor when this song is played at parties.

    LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY
From the album LOVE TO LOVE YOU BABY (1975). Great song.

TRY ME, I KNOW WE CAN MAKE IT
From the album A LOVE TRILOGY (1976). Great song.

    I FEEL LOVE
From the album I REMEMBER YESTERDAY (1977). Another classic.

    OUR LOVE
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Classic.

    I REMEMBER YESTERDAY
From the album I REMEMBER YESTERDAY (1977). Great.

    I LOVE YOU
From the album ONCE UPON A TIME... (1978). Classic.

    HEAVEN KNOWS
From the single HEAVEN KNOWS (1978). This song has finally made it's debut on a Donna Summer album, where back in 1978, the song was released as a single, and was never on a Donna Summer album...well, on its own, with not having to be in the "MacArthur Park Suite". This is a classic song.

    LAST DANCE
From the original motion picture & motion picture soundtrack THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY (1978). Classic song that is always played as the last song at parties.

    MacARTHUR PARK
Original version from the single MacARTHUR PARK (1978). This here is the radio version of Donna Summer's classic 1978 cover. When the song was released in 1978 as a single, the song ran over 8:30 (eight and a half minutes). That full-length eight and a half minute version has even started off "MacArthur Park" suite. Towards the end of the song, the track flowed into "One Of A Kind". After "One Of A Kind", the track flowed into a slightly mixed version of "Heaven Knows" (where the song was not in its entirety). After "Heaven Knows", the track slipped in to the reprise of "MacArthur Park". The reprise consisted of only one chorus, and that chorus was picked from this hear radio version. I don't care which version of this song I hear: The full-length version, the medley, or this radio version, I cannot get on with my day if I do not listen to this song.

    HOT STUFF
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Great song, but I like to hear either the album version (5 minutes and 15 seconds) or the 12" Single version (6 minutes 45 seconds). But still a great song.

    BAD GIRLS
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Classic song, talking about woman who "Work on 42nd Street" or "Hollywood Boulevard", if you know what I mean.

    DIM ALL THE LIGHTS
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Classic.

    SUNSET PEOPLE
From the album BAD GIRLS (1979). Classic.

NO MORE TEARS (ENOUGH IS ENOUGH) (performed by Barbra Streisand & Donna Summer) (Extended 12" Version)
Original version from Barbra Streisand's album WET (1979). This is a classic Diva duet between Barbra Streisand and Donna Summer. Right after Donna Summer released BAD GIRLS, Barbra Streisand began working on her album entitled, WET, a concept album describing Water in different variations. When Barbra and Donna hooked up for this duet, the title of the song was only called "Enough Is Enough", and the ballad introduction did not exist. When it came down to choosing what song will go on to the album, the producers did not want the duet between Barbra and Donna on the album, for the title did not fit in with the "Water" concept. Barbra, however, wanted the duet on the album, and she meant to have it that way. So she changed the title to "No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)", and decided to add on the ballad introduction, where both she and Donna are saying "It's raining, it's pouring", and so forth. The finalized track that is now featured on Barbra Streisand's 1979 album runs to eight minutes and twenty-two seconds, but the single/radio version only runs to four minutes and forty-three seconds, not giving the single any justice. When Donna put this album togetehr, she decided to use the three minute, twenty-two second version, but she also decided to add on another Three minutes and twenty-one seconds, making it run to a full eleven minutes and forty-three seconds. Not only did she add the 3+ minutes, she even added a Disco mix to it, making the song even...dancier. Great song.

    ON THE RADIO (Long Version)
While the album/single/radio version runs only four minutes long, this here long version runs to five minutes and fifty seconds, just one minute and fifty seconds longer than that of the original version. What makes this one longer is the extended instrumental bridge, as well as having a hidden third verse that plays right after the instrumental bridge, where Donna sings it in a ballad passage, just like the first verse. Great way to end the album.

This is another one of Donna Summer's greatest albums, featuring nothing, but the very best of Donna Summer's greatest hits of the '70s. This is a great album that should most definitely be owned already by every single Donna Summer fan around the world.

5 out of 5 stars Recapping The 70's, "On The Radio" .......2006-10-03

Yes, since this double album first made it's debut there have been many more complilations of Donna's to follow (as well as more Top 10 Hits and Hit Dance Tracks), but On The Radio is the original*, and it was (and is) a geat way to cap Donna's reign at the top of the charts.

This was not standard Greatest Hits packages, the tracks were remixed and they flow int one another in the same way that her Once Upon A Time, and Bad Girls albums were structured (see my reviews).
This collection takes us from her first USA hit, Love to Love You Baby, and takes us to what would become her 8th Top Ten Pop Hit in a row, On The Radio. The tracks here are the single edits, save for the 2 new tracks, that featured their full length versions.

Needless to say the impact of No More Tears (Enough is Enough) was immediate. Donna was the hottest star at the time, and Barbra Striesand was already a legend. This legendary track should have paved the way for more high energy duets, but alas most duets (from all artists) in the 80's wound up being same ol' same ol' ballads. The late Paul Jabara co-wrote this classic, and if anyone could have gotten these two Diva's together
it was Paul. "Rumor has it" that this was the only song that Jason Gould every liked of his Mom's.

On The Radio, the other new track here became a mega hit in it's own right, it hit number 5 on the charts in march of 1980, reaching only to number 5, no doubt as to most of us On The Radio was a hit back in December of '79 when this album was first released.

On The Radio celebrated Donna's rise to the top, and her position today as a musical icon.

An interesting footnote on this album is track 5, Our Love, this song, a track from Bad Girls, was never a single, and it out of step being placed with her other early singles. I often wonder if Could it Be Magic was supposed to be here, and Casablanca could not get the song rights to include it here. Could It be Magic, a hit from 1976, would appear on the later hits package, Endless Summer.

    Ken

PS *yes, i know there was an earlier Donna Summer, Greatest Hits package, but that was a european release.

5 out of 5 stars So what if they're not "album length"???.......2006-06-19

Rarely do "greatest hits" packages feature the full-length recordings as found on the originals from whence the songs are culled. "On the Radio" was as the title stated: a collection of radio "edits" of the singer's best from the mid-seventies until the last of the decade.

The bonus tracks are the then-new "Enough is Enough (No More Tears)," the hit duet with Summer and Streisand, and the extended version of the title cut.

I often think that "Enough is Enough" might have been the "sign-on-the-cross" for disco, inasmuch as the days of the dance music form were numbered, due in part to the plethora of artists, from Broadway's Ethel Merman to country's Bill Anderson all taking a stab at disco.

However, if one is looking for the "real thing," then consider the purchase of Summer's "On the Radio," a "sampler" that shows the GOOD that the decade had to offer.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute best in dance/disco music !.......2006-02-15

This is the best Donna Summer recording you can buy. This was released late 1979 early 1980(?) and was put out from Casablanca records at a time when Donna was having some legal work done against Casablanca and even if this record was put out in spite of Donna they did an awesome job of taking her 1970s hits and doing a little bit of adjustment making one cool recording.

The reason this is Donna's best recording is because of how they blend the songs so that while one song ends the other song begins simultaneously. More importantly is how it sounds when this is done. The absolute best of this recording is at the end of Love To Love You Baby(LTLYB) where the backup chorus all come together like they do on other versions of LTLYB, but on this one they use the synthesizers in a way that almost sounds like they are tweaking it or something at the very end of LTLYB while the beginning of "Try Me.." starts.

The first time I heard this version of LTLYB back in 1992 I thought "WOW" does that sound cool. The only part I don't like was having Barbara Streisand on here. I don't dislike her and will listen to Barbara Streisand if she's played on the radio, but mixing her with Donna wasn't a good choice and the song with her is the only one on here that is bad.

This recording was out over 26 years ago and is proof that even with all the technology that has evolved since then, that you have to have someone who is a good singer working with a good producer with good ideas who knows how to use technology to make something sound good who can make a overall recording that sounds good. Donna was the last cool woman making dance music and after Donna was no longer the queen of dance music other women came along with social and political themes (e.g. Madonna, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey) incorporated into their goofy, simple dance songs and the media/public classified them as "divas" simply because of what they represented and not how the music sounded. They took over the dance genre and ruined it for me personally.

Donna's music has lasted the test of time and still sounds good. I would like to see this cd re-released with remixes added that were DONE BACK WHEN THIS RECORDING WAS OUT NOT RECENTLY like they do to some cool songs and ruin them with a "today"- sounding remix.

America was introduced to Donna Summer around Valentines Day 1976 and 30 years later it's time to have this cd redone with extended bonuses and to see more of Donna at concerts and on TV.

      5 out of 5 stars Great 70s Disco Music!.......2005-12-25

Donna Summer is the ultimate queen of Disco. No doubt about it.

3 out of 5 stars Summer of Love. Donna is a disco primadonna(some times).......2005-09-21

Sure this is Donna Summer`s greatest hits. Some tracks blow you away, some dont. The new track on this album Melody of Love is not to much to shout hurray to. But when it comes to the classics that`s another cup of tea. And i dont mean the oldest one, but at the end of the 70 ths she troughly shine. It start`s with Track 9. Hot stuff and Track 10 Bad Girls. That`s what i called Disco with a sting in it. It brings sweet memories back to when the disco was cool and has a certain creativity over it. You can skip trough much of the other stuff. Track 10 Bad Girls is the ultimate Summer Hit, no over, no besides. That`s a fact Track 15 She works hard for the Money has enough tempo upbeat to make your dance. Also when she uses the same producers as early Sam Fox used back in the 80 ths(stock/aitken/waterman) Summer shines, especially on Track 17 and Track 18
This time i know its for real and I dont wanna get hurt.
Still Summer is good to listen to when the weather is bad. She still sparks sometimes

      4 out of 5 stars Endless Summer.......2005-09-07

I must admit that I never really found Donna Summer that interesting (yes I'm a big disco fan) but somehow she just seemed like an obvious choice, so I stayed away. I woke up one day and decided to give it a try, so I bought "Endless Summer" which has all of her most well known songs compiled in their edited versions. All the hits are here: "Hot Stuff", "MacArthur Park", "Last Dance" and "Love to Love You Baby". I'm so glad that Donna didn't turn into one of those "has been" disco singers like Gloria Gaynor (I feel so sorry for her, aimlessly lost, she recorded some truly awful albums in the 80's with shameless covers of such songs as "I Will Always Love You", "Careless Whisper" and endless re-recordings of her only true worldwide hit "I Will Survive"). That being said, I do enjoy listening to both Gaynor and Summer, but I must say that I prefer Grace Jones and Loleatta Holloway any day over them. :)

      Album Description

This triple CD release was mixed by Om family members Chuck Love, Groove Junkies, and DJ Fluid and features chunky, funky, soulful, and sensual house, hand designed for your summertime aural pleasure. Groove Junkies have crafted a style influenced by soul, funk, r&b, gospel, and Latin rhythms. Pumping grooves, uplifting lyrics, and undeniable hooks are their signature elements. DJ Fluid, founder and head honcho of Om, creates his diverse sound from combining everything from Chicago House to Nu Jazz to Brazilian rhythms. Chuck Love (aka Charlie Erickson) found his calling behind the decks and mic where the groove is musical and solid; good vibes flow out of the hi-fi as infectious hooks float, smoky chords punch, and solos fly.

3 out of 5 stars All about Disc 1.......2006-12-20

Maybe I've gotten spoiled by Miguel Migs and some of Naked Music's offerings. Discs 2 and 3 of this set are some of the most monotonous sounding, unoriginal mixes and vibes I've heard in a while.

Disc 1 is a totally different story, however. HOT grooves, thumpin' bass, and powerhouse vocals scattered throughout make OM SUMMER SESSIONS worth buying. A couple of gospel house tunes were a very nice surprise on an early morning ride to work when I felt like going back to bed -- especially when the gospel diva herself, Ann Nesby, makes a thrilling appearance. She doesn't even sing on her own albums like she does here.

I guess performances like that and the overall goodness of the first disc were what set my expectation for the rest of the set, which is shockingly dull by comparison. 2/3 of this collection of tunes is mediocre so I can't give the complete set more than 3 stars.

That said -- disc 1 is one of the best dance discs extant, almost up there with Naked Music's stuff. You'll have to decide if it's worth the baggage that it carries with it, lol.

      4 out of 5 stars Funky grooves.......2006-08-24

It doesn't take very long to establish a groove on this 3 cd set: possibly 3 minutes at most. The funky quality of the album reminds me of the likes of Soulive. There are male vocals on pretty much every track on the first disc. This is my first house of Om compilation so there are crowd cheers on some of the tracks as it is supposed to be live. My favorite grooves on the first disc have to be Ron Hall's "The way you love me" and Frankie Knuckles "Disco Shimmy." Micky More's "Victory Dance" carries the second album well. It is surrounded by some alright tracks. Audiowhores "Not going back" establishes a nice groove with horns sounding and the album ends well with Fourfeet. DJFluid's whole set is good, and adds the techno edge to the cds. There are some cool bass lines on all 3 cd's and some decent female vocals. Overall, a good compilation of funky grooves.

5 out of 5 stars The most soothing sounds.......2006-02-20

I grew up listening to Zamfir's pan flute soothing music, then for the past 15 years, I've been away from it until I heard The Lonely Shepherd while watching Kill Bill. I was pleasantly surprised to find the CD at Amazon and bought it at once. Many of the other songs on this CD are good as well, but nothing beats The Lonely Shepherd.

5 out of 5 stars moving and lyrical.......2005-10-08

I dont care for any of the other songs on the CD, but the "Lonely Shepherd" theme is very beautiful and sad. Zamfir was obviously deeply in love with the panpipes. Listen to his "Picnic at Hanging Rock" soundtrack and you'll know what I mean. I highly recommend this CD.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Music !!.......2005-09-26

THis CD by Zamfir is out of this world. There is nothing better than "The Lonely Shepherd"... I haven't heard a better one than this. Just the type of soft instrumental one would like...very soothing.

5 out of 5 stars Just one listen changed my life.......2005-01-19

I was once a punk rocker. I listened to the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Black Flag, and The Dead Kennedys. I have a string of gigs under my belt with various punk bands, a long list of one night stands with rocker chicks, and did enough drugs to make Keith Richards OD. All that changed the night I listened to Zamfir.

Alone in my apartment I played this CD while cleaning a puke staine off my carpet. I don't know whose it was, but I'd like to thank him because it led me to my new life. I have since thrown away my guitars, amps, and entire music collection. It is all garbage by comparison to this and in the trash is where it all belongs.

How can anyone listen to 'Summer of 42' and not fall to their knees by the sheer beauty of it? The Lonely Shepard title track brings tears to my eyes everytime I listen to it. It brings me to a magical place where no one gets arrested for shoplifting and everyone has peace in their hearts.

I cannot find a panflute at the music store, so I'm trying to make one out of PVC pipe and old bongs. I think I found the G, A, and D major chords, but can't quite find F. A silly straw with a slit in it can make a pretty decent B minor, but it stretches out after a couple of days.

All my friends have abandoned me and I haven't been with a woman in three months, but it is all worth it. I now happily skip through life with merriment in my heart. No more drugs for me, Zamfir is my natural high.
