About the Artist
I'm a 34 year old male from Portugal. My zodiac sign is scorpion. I was born in the district of Coimbra in a town called Vila Nova de Poiares and i'm currently living in Algarve in a city called Loule. I'm a fun person who likes fun places with a lot of rhythm. I like to transmit happiness to all those which surround me, if possible. Ever since I was a small boy i had a dream of producing music and now finally I'm beginning to accomplish my dream. I started playing around with some sounds and rhythms about a year ago. The results are starting to pay off and it fascinates me every time I finish a track, especially when people really like it and leave me comments that really surprise me!

How you describe your music.

Personally, I try to make my music pass a feeling of happiness, rhythm and freedom of spirit and I hope I manage that because I've made it my goal. With so many thing wrong in our planet I hope my music will cheer someone up!

At least one of the best dub CDs ever.......2006-09-08

It's hard to say which dub album I'd pick as the best but this is one of them. My favorite track is "Great Stone," the dub version of Prince Alla's "Stone," with it incredibly driving rhythm. This CD is a must for any serious listener of reggae/dub or popular music in general.

Long Live The Great King Tubby.

Well, I don't know if I woul go so far as to declare this the greatest dub album of all time, however I will gladly concede it is number two*. Do not sleep on this disc however, King Tubby, as you probably already know, is regarded as the godfather of Dub. It is nice to also have a collection of all Soul Syndicate tracks.

*- for those wondering, my absolute favorite dub album of all time is the King Tubby produced Cornell Campbell - I Shall Not Remove 1975-1980, both albums come with my highest recommendation.

Rythmes jouissifs et mélodies apocalyptiques se marient à merveille pour donner un des meilleurs albums de tout les temps. Les 5 premières chansons vous montrent le talent incroyable de "maître" King Tubby. On se prend alors à rêver d'un King Tubby encore vivant et donnant des concerts à travers le monde. Pour compléter cet album, je conseille "termination dub" de King Tubby et Glen Brown, ainsi que tous les albums d'Augustus Pablo

Simply the best dub album ever.......2003-04-02

There are simply no questions to be asked. If your taste includes heavy rootsy dub, with megatons of bass and reverb, vocals coming and going like ghosts of some long dead jamaican freedom fighter, this is the album for you. It features dub cuts of famous songs from the Freedom Sounds label, with artists like Prince Alla, Rod Taylor, Earl Zero and more.

No reggae collection can be without this. Also serves as a great introduction to dub music for people who have not yet had a chance to enjoy the fruits of this wonderful genre.

Black Uhuru is a vocal trio formed by Don Carlos, Duckie Simpson and Garth Dennis. But the group is best known from the days in which Michael Rose was responsible for the lead vocals. Many, many have comne to apprecilove Reggae Music by the works of Black Uhuru. This album is no different, it's a real gem in a collection of jewelry!
Black Sounds Of Freedom contains ten beautifull Roots Reggae tracks provided by Prince Jammy's. They're recorded in the days that Michael Rose just joined Black Uhuru. The sounds are really crucial: driven by the innovative drumming of Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare's solid basslines, and mixed by the mighty Prince Jammy. It contains the reggae classic "I Love King Selassie" and a very beautiful cover from Bob Marley's "Natural Mystic".

Originally this album was released in 1977 as a debut album and entitled Love Crisis, but it was re-released in 1981, this time it containing different drums and also the mixes were different. Many drum rhythms have changed from One Drops to Steppers beats.

I would like to add some special notes about Sly Dunbar's drumming on the album. I think that he is using very progressive steppers beats, on most tracks of the album at least. It's a true blessing to listen to his drumming and trying to follow it with the ear and heart.

Yes I! I agree, this album is a real gem. Definitely more rootsy and not many know the I love King selassie besides Jamaicans. That song is a scorcher! True dread itality. Their other material under the hand of the venerable Monsieurs Sly and Robbie is awesome, but the cd will give real sense of Uhuru's roots. Irie I.

One of Reggae's finest moments ..........1999-07-01

Critics always fall over themselves to praise B.U.'s Red album (also an excellent record), but Black Sounds of Freedom is without a doubt Black Uhuru's finest moment and one of the best Reggae albums ever. Made early on before Puma Jones joined the band, this is more roots oriented and does not have the dance rythems and programmed drums of some of their early-80s material. The record has a great flow, with tight musicianship and emotional vocals. All the songs are outstanding, including a cover of Bob Marley's "Natural Mystic". Also note that the band recorded versions of Eden Out Deh, Satan Army Band, Willow Tree and Time to Unite on later albums. You can't go wrong with this record.

An Unfenced Domestic.......2004-10-24

That Sharrock sound is worth pursuing anywhere. 'Guitar' and 'Ask The Ages' are great but 'Black Woman' is of a different magnitude. And mass. And electricity. An unfenced domestic at a gallop with Milford Graves on drums. Linda squealing over free-folk-surf-space music with chamber gashes. 'Bialero' is a memory that never existed. Volts, hearts, throats gushing about something inexpressably lost. It's the yard, the sunlit borders, the younger you. One of my favourite records.

Love Crisis.......2007-05-14

This album was originally called "Love Crisis" when it was first released in Jamaica in the 1970's. Re-packaged and re-released as "Black Sounds Of Freedom" for the U.S. market, this album featured a singer named Michael Rose who left the band immediately after recording this album. Too bad, because this is one of finest reggae albums I have heard and Black Uhuru haven't released anything as high quality since.

Great reissue.......2007-01-30

Great reissue of 2 lps produced by Prince Jammy. This is right before they were picked up by Island, therefore it is not as slick as those releases.

Great late 70's roots reggae: great rhythms, great singing, great songs, and great sound.

A real nice piece that helps see Uhuru in a less commercial light. Very Enjoyable.

Tribute to the Skatalites: Sweet Serenity for the Ears.......2001-05-22

As I searched frantically for a sample of this old school ska, I stumbled apon a Song titled Ska Boss, originally by the Sakatalites, but redone by the Aquabats. After giving my ears a listen, I was trapped into a world of disturbing Kermit impressions, and crude "homemade" sound effects (The begging of the song starts off that way). I was amazed. After hearing that one song, I definately wanted to hear more. "Freedom Sounds: A tribute to the Skatatlites", was just the ticket.

Like any other tribute album, it's common for the songs to be faster, louder, quieter or even, completely different. That's what I enjoy about these sorts of albums. I like to hear the artists' interpretation of other bands. Skalloween, one of my favorite songs, sounds just that way. With the addition of certain creepy sound effects and heavier drum beats, you can actually fall into a world where you're 8 years old all over again, looking over your shoulder every three seconds just to make sure that boogie men and other various monsters aren't chasing you as you try and make your way back home safely.

"Freedom Sounds: A Tribute to the Skatalites", is a compilation of the best Skatalite songs, well maybe missing a few, by such artists as The Slackers, The Scofflaws, Ruder Than You and the infamous Joe Ferry. This CD is definately a MUST HAVE ON MY CHRISTMAS LIST CD!
