The highest quality performance.......1999-03-13
The music on this recording presents a typical example of a semi-opera, popular in Britain in Purcell's time. Semi-operas were based on a dramatic spoken play, and were accompanied by "incidental" music (dances and masques). It is this incidental music that usually finds its way onto a disc. This recording follows this convention. What distinguishes this recording is its high quality. Collegium Musicum 90 and Richard Hickox are experts in baroque music. The soloists include the biggest names in English vocals. Even the two additional tenors, brought in to merely double the voices in two places, are not just anybody, but Mark Padmore and Ian Bostridge (!). That tells you something. The biggest highlights include the Wood-god duet in Act V of Dioclesian, and the soprano song "Since from my dear Astrea's sight" which is placed in an appendix because musicologists don't seem to know where exactly it originally belonged. This song, which seems to speak of a man's, rather than woman's, anguish over the lost love, concludes with the most wrenching words: "alas, with weeping eyes, And bleeding heart I lie Thinking on her whose absence 'tis That makes me wish to die." Isn't that beautiful?

Perfect for tweakers with short attention spans........2004-11-24
Kid 606 is a twisted genius, and one can only assume that he should have been put on Ritalin a LONG time ago. As the title of this review suggests, the Kid's music is fast and schizophrenic, moving rapidly from rave to ghetto house to jungle to ragga to ambient to dancehall, spending a minute or two at each and few milliseconds at all points in between. If I had to pick a favorite or two off this album it would have to be Yr Inside the Smallest Rave on Earth which sounds like an entire rave mix compressed into about 5 minutes and Robitussen Mother F*cker which sounds just like what it's called: a dancehall burner after drinking a bottle of the red stuff.
It's really impossible to categorize any one of his tracks b/c they all have bits and pieces of many electronic genres thrown in. My friend and I made a game of seeing who could recognize and pick out the most samples in some of the songs. It's not as easy as it sounds.
If you're looking for deep grooves and light melodies, skip this record; it might hurt you. But if your looking for the aural equivilent of a cd player on rapid-fire shuffle mode, then this is definitely something you'll want to listen to.

Album Description
Aka vol.2, More shiz that didn't fit onto the 'Kill Sound Before Sound Kills You' album. Ingredients: two booming thematically linked neo-rave breakbeat tracks, one live acidhouse basement party jam, two rinsing ragga jungle slammers, four booty bass bouncers/two with vocals from sue cie of gold chains fame, one crunked up dj screw tribute, one unfinished cex remix, one sweet emo monosynth song kid did when he was 17 and in lots of pain after coming home from the orthodontist, one really good different version of a remix kid did for com.a, and 2 gabber blowouts kid made to finish live shows with to try and crush the soundsystem while still retaining a element of danceable fun musical enjoyment (you can decide how it all came out). Add all new artwork from joel trussell, the man responsible for the 3Illness2 video and the illustrations from ksb4sku and you've got the freshest kid606 joint in your hands! Valve. 2005.
