I actually had a vinyl copy of the "Purple People Eater" when I was a child, so I was thrilled to find this CD. I'll admit I bought it just to get Purple People Eater, but I was surprised to find that I could sit through the entire CD and just enjoy it. It's not just Purple People Eater and a lot of garbage, but rather just a whole lot of fun.

Particularly interesting are the "sequels" to Purple People Eater. Sheb seems to have tried to capitalize on his novelty hit several times. I never knew these songs existed.

And, Sheb wasn't just a novelty act. He did a number of country folksie sounding songs that were just plain good wholesome 1950's to early 60's male pop vocalist sounding stuff.

So, come for the Purple People Eater, but don't just eat and run. Stay around for the whole platter.

You'll love this funny C.D, which is packed with great songs! I love Purple people eater, and my whole family is always listening to it! Think of a mix of any of the "Space Ghost Coast to Coast" C.D.s and young childrens story C.D.s, and this is the outcome. The only reason I left out the 5th star is because it IS a tad expensive, BUT worth the money! So, BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!

None of the songs are by the original performers. Furthermore, the performers are not even good amateurs. This compilation really stinks! In fact, I have plans to chuck this compact disc in the trash can, and to save the box for replacing one of my cracked compact disc boxes. I bought this compilation because I was interested in Tie Me Kangaroo Down. The rendition of this song is actually not bad. But the others lack any sparkle or finesse. Yuck! One might note that there do exist good compilations of novelty rock'n'roll songs which are above average. One is "The very best of the Coasters," a compilation by Rhino Records, Inc., which includes one of the all-time-great novelty tunes of rock'n'roll, namely, Little Egypt. Another good compilation is Wacky Weirdos put out by K-tel International, Inc. of Minneappolis, MN. The songs here are the originals, and include Witch Doctor, Monster Mash, and one of the finest and most clever songs in the rock'n'roll genre, Ahab the Arab. The 5 stars shown above refer to Ahab the Arab on the Wacky Weirdo compilation by K-tel, and to Little Egypt by the Coasters on a Rhino Records, Inc. compilation.

This is great fun and good for a sing-a-long. I am an adult who remembers these songs, but kids like them too.

All the songs on this package are funny and a joy to listen to. I don't know if there songs were intended for an audience that is too young. Some of these songs have adult themes but not enough to give children a idea. Just like the Flintones, children watch these cartoon but many people don't realize that it was targeted toward adults, taking after the Honeymooners. There was another album that I used to listen to as a child which contained around 20 "Silly Songs". The name of he Album was "Funny Bone", but this collection of "Silly Songs" is a collectors item and I recommend this for everyone off all ages. Buy it.

      I am a huge Ian Gillan fan and I was very disappointed after recieving this double cd set. CD 1 is the Gillan / Glover "Accidentally On Purpose" album which I do like . The second cd is a waste except for the 2 Ian Gillan Naked Thunder songs . The remainder of the songs are old Roger Glover solo songs . If I was just rating the "Accidentally On Purpose" cd , I'd give this set a 3 , but cd 2 brings everything down to a 1 . AVOID THIS !!!

              The Purple Critter (and some of his friends) is an eclectic selection of traditional children's songs and stories on CD done in the traditional genre, beautifully sung with traditional instrument accompaniment including the accordion, nothing is synthesized.
