Matthew Dear has his own original style........2006-12-14

Matthew Dear has created quite an original, unique style. Different stuff is always debateable. The question if it is good or not in this case is ultimatley for the listener to decide. Some people will think its rather lifeless and boring, although some people will probably really enjoy it's unique combination of different bassy throbing sounds with the typical 'sad' but in a way also 'happy', matthew dear vocals. It is not exciting, just nice to listen to once in a while.
My opinion- I like challenging music that has some sort of energy but also, as I always say, unique. It in many ways has this, but not enough.
A low 3. 50%. Good try

Well composed, but lifeless.

There are times when clicks and blips work to make for interesting and wonderful music as with Autechre, and to some degree Plastikman, but there is nothing that feels original and interesting here. Move on Dance/IDM seekers.

my first taste.......2006-02-04

this cd was the first i heard of matthew dear (a couple of years ago) and it is a superb debut album. the whole cd is filled with great track after great track, its no wonder that matthew is one of the most in demand producers and djs in the world right now. "dog days" is a classic, there isnt much more to say about that track, its superb! other highlights include "its over now", "just us now", and "huffing stuff". do not miss this one

This CD came highly recommended and I will say that technically speaking it is good.

That said, each track sounds rather cliched and tired- full of bells and whistles but still rather lifeless.

Which only further proves that electronic music is in some ways the easiest to make and the most difficult to make good.

this guy takes electronic music seriously...which is a good thing for us. i've only seen him play once but i wish i had a cd of the set he spun because it was amazing. besides from his skills in minimal techno he is also perhaps the best thing to happen to jungle...he has a release on aphex twins' rephlex label under the name soundmurder & sk-1 that is totally mad. aside from the fan-ny blah blah this album is very solid. like all of ghostly international's stuff the album is engineered very well and sounds like a million bucks. he uses vocals effectively and the beats are snappy chunky floor stompers that contain subtle melodies and variations that will work there way into your mind days later. if you like this also run out and get Ricardo Villalobos' new album (which amazon doesn't carry either) which is very similiar but a little more sophisticated

This is the best mix CD out there at the moment for UK Garage listeners. DJ Luck & MC Neat take a bow!
It inludes killer tracks like So Solid's 21 Seconds, Sambucca, Extra Extra and many many more.
At least 30 REALLY good track on this.

It's a nonstop 2 step mix ( 2 cds ) by the star DJs DJ Luck & McNeat and it's all good. No fillers and no bad tracks. All is dancey and a good go! Good mix!

The duo are back with probably the best compilation album of the year. The play list is packed full of good old commercial UK garage, a sound that many like to put down, but can't stop grooving to in clubs across the UK. The pumping beats presented by dj luck are accompanied by the more than fimiliar vocal and lyrical talents of mc neat, making this album that little bit more special than your usual garage compilation. I imagine that the album is probably not to everone's taste, but a day hasn't gone past when I haven't had this playing in the backround. I would certainly recommend it to anyone who likes house or R&B as we know that garage brings together elements from both. A must have for garage lovers and a must sample for all others.
