Star 69 Records, in conjunction with white hot eatery CAFETERIA, announce the release of the new chill/lounge compilation CD entitled "hear."The CD features seamless transitions from track to track courtesy of Grammy Award-winning remixer/producer Peter Rauhofer, who proudly displays his softer side with this, his first ever, down-tempo compilation featuring a non-stop collection of timeless music.
Rauhofer, has recently completed remixes for Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, and Annie Lennox, to name a few. Two of Rauhofer's own productions make their way onto the unique "hear." collection: a chilled out take on the Rauhofer + The Pet Shop Boys' 2001 dance floor remake of the classic house stomper "Break 4 Love," as well as Peter's Chilled Dub of Yoko Ono's "Walking On Thin Ice."
"CAFETERIA customers were always asking if the music they were hearing in the restaurant was available for purchase on CD," said Executive Co-Producer Rauhofer. "So Mark and I teamed up to give the customer what they wanted - a vocal oriented chill/lounge disc that contains a lot of previously unreleased and rare material."
Executive Co-producer and CAFETERIA Partner Mark Thomas Amadei: "The CD is compiled in an order that will take the listener on a musical ride. It begins with the appropriately titled sexy track "Wake Up" by Waldek and finishes with Chantal Kreviazuk's more soothing "Leaving On A Jet Plane."
Other artists featured on the album include Lydia Rhodes, Kool & The Gang, Lamya and Vanessa Daou. Known for remixing dance hits from the mid-90's to today, Friburn & Urik deliver a smoothed out rendition of "Black Mona Lisa" by soul chanteuse Lamya, which attracts even the most jaded ear. Rhodes' stellar performance on Fleetwood Mac's Pop/Rock classic "Dreams" is also included, as well as the quintessential chill track "Summer Madness" by R&B pioneers Kool & The Gang. Also included is "Show Me" from Daou, whose style is best described as club friendly neo-jazz and soul. This well-rounded collection is perfect for any time of the day.

What's the Danish word for Marshmallows? If you answered "Skumfiduser" you are correct and will no doubt enjoy Applebaum's work for orchestra and computer-generated tape of the same name. The intellectual and audio pyrotechnics don't end there on this unlikely new disc: "Martian Anthropology" posits that scholars from Mars visit the Earth after its destruction and piece together the entire history of civilization from three objects they dig up. They might be anything; a wheelchair, a business card for an escort service, and a tube of Chapstick, for example. The rest is up to you and your imagination. Four Applebaum mega-works for orchestra and electronics are gathered here and will redefine your next symphony experience. Listening to Ferneyhough on a sugar high does not even come close to this trip.

This is more than just the incidental music that sometimes lurks around on scores. The "Garrent Waltz" and "Blue Eyes" from THE KID are fully-realized songs that set a definite mood. "Kidnap," also from THE KID, frames one of film's most memorable and heartwrenching scenes, when the Kid is taken from The Tramp -- and the music swoops and swells with all the same agony and heartache, climaxing with soft violins and flutes crying through a theme that eventually became one of Chaplin's signature tunes. Good stuff.
On a lighter note, the CD also contains the famous "Dance of the Rolls" from THE GOLDRUSH and "The Circus March" from THE CIRCUS, one of Chaplin's most laugh-out-loud films.
It is in his music for CITY LIGHTS and MODERN TIMES, though, where Chaplin the musician really shines. The drunken vignettes of the four "Nightclub" tracks make for great listening, but it's the "Boxing Ring" music that you'll end up cranking through the stereo speakers, with its blaring trumpets and up-and-down brass line (and in these new recordings, you can even hear the frantic timpani swooshing juuuuust behind it all).
The music of MODERN TIMES bring the album to an appropriate close, with the refrain from "Smile" fading out as the final fanfare swells -- fittingly enough, it was this music that played as The Tramp (with the girl finally on his arm) walked off into the sunset (or sunrise, in this case) in the final scene of what would be his last truly "silent" film.
As an import, it costs a little more. But if you're a Chaplin aficianado -- or even just a collector of film scores -- this belongs in your collection.
