4 out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars - Illest Beats.......2005-04-26

This is the first compilation to be released by Bully Records, a Canadian label, and features many renowned artists, like DJ Signify, Moodswing 9 and Controller 7 and is chock full of the illest instrumentals.

He Did Glass Music is producer Matth teamed up with Sixtoo, who contribute two somber, but very dope tracks. Moodswing 9 doesn't fail behind the boards either, and "Isle of toys" is probably the darkest song on the album. P-Love's two respective songs, on the other hand, are upbeat and neutralize the gloomy atmosphere appropriately. My favourite aspect of Lunch Money Singles are the drum patterns the various producers employ. Controller 7 is the most featured artist, and his drum selections are always dope.

The battle tracks between Sixtoo and Simahlak are engaging, in which the rivalry is (almost) resolved. Overall, a great compilation and promising label, which boasts future experimental albums, like six vicious (a Sixtoo punk/hip hop mash up release) and more music from Controller 7 and Moodswing 9.

"Would you give up the happiest day in your life, in fair exchange, to be rid of the most miserable, hopeless, and desparing one?"
Controller 7 asks us this question on the first 'Lunch Money Singles' compliation from Canadian-based Bully Records. The album grabs your attention and demands you to listen. A sample of Bully's extensively talented roster of artists, this compilation is an amazing display of hip hop production, with super-obscure samples blended into intricatley woven beats. The sound flows from adrenaline-charged agression to milky mellow smoothness and brings us to those deep inward places where we find love, hate, rejection, and happines. This album is a stellar example of technical and precise production, featuring a variety of speeds, rhythms, and instrument samples. The overall sound ranges from utter craziness to nimble quickness to relaxed sloth. The fourth track, by Moodswing 9, is a particular favorite for its building beat and intense harpsicord mealody. All tracks on this album are from vinyl singles released by Bully, many of which are now rare and hard to find. This one compliation makes it easy to experience them all! A must-cop for the true underground hip-hop fan, these dope instrumentals tickle vinyl junkies and beat lovers alike.
