The Wreckers are Grammy-winning songstress Michelle Branch and friend/journeywoman Nashville singer-songwriter Jessica Harp, a team whose solid craftsmanship and soaring, airtight harmonies often lift their hook-smart contemporary country stylings above what's too often mere fizzy, pop-crossover formula. They may have entered the public consciousness via the wide exposure of "Good Kind" on the primetime soap opera One Tree Hill, but the bracing, back-porch charms of the single "Leave the Pieces" should find them a following well beyond that series' teen audience. The reflective title track, gritty folk charms of "Tennessee" and giddy crowd-pleaser "My, Oh My" are suffused with a lyrical maturity that's the perfect counterpoint to the duo's sturdy musical constructs. Solid songs all, delivered with a muscular vocal conviction that does considerably more than merely sell them. --Jerry McCulley

Customer Reviews:
Okay.......2007-07-09
As many of you probably have, I listened to this album because it had Michelle Branch in it. I have to say that the vocals with Jessica Harp are fantastic and the sound of the songs are nice, but most of the songs aren't that great. Leave the Pieces is a nice song, but not that great. The only ones I enjoyed are Lay Me Down, Rain, The Good Kind, and Tenessee. The rest is mediocre. My, Oh My for instance is just plain boring. Rain is a great song, which sounds exactly as if it came off Hotel Paper, and isn't country at all. Lay Me Down isn't a truly great song, but I really enjoyed it. The Good Kind is a nice sounding song, and the melody reminds me of Breathe. Tenessee is a really good song.
I hope this review was helpful.
Wow.......2007-05-28
I love that Michelle Branch can be successful with mainstream and well as country music. She has such a transitional voice and is well suited for both genres. This CD is amazing!
Great debut.......2007-05-23
Overall, I really liked this album. Some of the songs were surprisingly short and sounded the same, but all in all this is a great start for the Wreckers.
Chick with rockabilly.......2007-05-22
Good album that is as easy on the ears. A good blend of country rock
I love this album!!!.......2007-05-08
I bought this album because I like one of the girls (the rock girl) and I am not disappointed :) I really like this album and I hope there's more to come.

"So I'm a little left of center, I'm a little out of tune," sings Michelle Branch on her debut album's "You Get Me." Well, maybe. Branch offers a well-produced pastiche of chiming and strumming guitars, hip-hop-lite beats, quiet-verse-to-louder-chorus templates, and positive thinking. At her best--"If She Only Knew," a propulsive love note to an ex--she rivals the likes of Sixpence None the Richer as likable radio-aimed fare. Catchy and self-expressive while breaking absolutely no ground, Branch also echoes everyone from label-mate Alanis Morissette to the solo Belinda Carlisle. She dies just a little in this crazy mixed-up world, escapes to her secret garden for sunshine in the pouring rain, and ultimately finds her reflection getting clearer. The Spirit Room could be the next bit of pop philosophy to dazzle mainstream audiences. --Rickey Wright
Customer Reviews:
very impressive.......2007-06-22
I don't know how old Michelle Branch was when she recoded this CD, but I am sure she's old enough to be my daughter that I would have had in my 20's. Her lyrics are ingsightful without alienating audience in her age group but retain a certain sophistication beyond her years. Imagine she wrote most the songs, co-wrote some, played the guitar and the base, and what a crystalline voice, the kind that is timeless and can transcend her listeners. It is nice to know that The Woman Song Writing tradition started by Joni Mitchel, Joan Armatrading and such will be continued, for this reason, I think Michelle Branch will be around for a while.
This album is a breath of fresh air. No really, it is!.......2007-06-12
It's pop, that isn't OVERLY poppy. Somewhat like Vanessa Carlton. I appreciate Michelle's lyrics because they are just so true sometimes. She's a bit angsty, she's left wondering and she longs for love...in mildly interesting ways and it shows. It's just really nice to be able to truly relate to someone in the music industry. I mean it happens, but not as often as we like sometimes.
And don't get me started on John Shanks. This guy is a musical genius. He works with Michelle Branch on production and helps write five of the eleven songs on this nice full length debut. He is also responsible for the catchiness of Ashlee Simpson songs, which most of them I love.
Best songs:
All You Wanted
Goodbye To You
Drop In The Ocean (this song is amazing)
Honorable Mention:
Something To Sleep To
If you don't own any CDs by this talented singer/songwriter/guitarist/etc, etc. It would be wise to start at the beginning with The Spirit Room.
The only thing that bothered me a bit was the song titles: Maybe I'm in the minority, but some of them were just too predictable, leaving some of the songs to lack a bit of depth. I believe Michelle was rather young when she wrote some of these songs though...
Anyway, 4 stars!
P.S. My favorite line is in the song Goodbye To You. It's capitalized:
"I've been searchin' deep down in my soul/Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old/Feels like I'm starting all over again/THE LAST 3 YEARS WERE JUST PRETEND...
" If you want to, I can save you..." - Michelle Branch ROCKS .......2007-05-20
Ok now I've been a Huge fan of Michelle Branch, I mean after all those fake stars that producers put up, Michelle is refreshing! IT's also funny since my name's Michelle too! I can play almost all her songs on the guitar, and her voice is great! I wish I can sing like her but I can't (sigh). Well anyway, I'll just rate the songs...
1. Everywhere- 10/10 This song's one of my favorites! It has a nice upbeat tune to it, and the lyrics are catchy. A great way to start a career.
2. You get me- 10/10 Another Great song! I like the lyrics "So I'm a little left of center, I'm a little out of tune". It's great for any teen who feels ordinary.
3. All you wanted-10/10 Such a good song! I can feel it's about her trying to save a boy from the popular crowd. Here everything fits.. the lyrics, music, everything.
4.You set me free- 9/10- Everything's good in this song, just not upbeat enough for me, but it's also great!
5.Something to sleep to- 8/10 As the song says.. it's good to listen to if you want a soothing sensation before sleeping!
6.Here with me-9/10 Not the best, but still has everything nice and flowing. I like it.
7.Sweet Misery- 9/10 It's catchy, and the musics good, but I like All you wanted and Everywhere better.
8.If she only knew- 10/10 This is another favorite! It's fun, and I'm sure anyone would love Michelle after hearing this song.
9. I'd rather be in love- 9/10 This song shows Michelle wise beyond 18. The lyrics fit the mood and music of the song.
10.Goodbye to you- 10/10 A song about moving on with your life. This fits all the feeling you're supposed to fell after a break-up. Another fave.
11.Drop in the Ocean- 8/10 A bit too mellow for me, but it's perfect to end the album.
Beautiful tunes and lyrics.......2007-01-08
I am not a professional reviewer, so I will keep the simple. This album is absolutely beautiful. It has soft gentle spirituality to the music and the lyrics. I love it and believe Michelle Branch is underestimated as a song writer and an artist. I hope she never stops writing and playing music, she has a wonderful future!
Michelle Branch rocks!.......2006-12-26
I got this yesterday for Christmas after hearing the song, " You Set Me Free" used on the Ice Princess Soundtrack, and i love it! Well, most of it. Here's my review of The Spirit Room.
1. Everywhere- 9/10- A fun and upbeat song. Pretty good, love the intro to it.
2. You Get Me- 5/10- It's pretty, but just too slow to me. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually.
3. All You Wanted- 10/10- The BEST on the album. Love it! Was this a single? If not, it definalty should have been.
4. You Set Me Free- 10/10- Like i already wrote, I got this CD after hearing this song on Ice Princess. Really good and fun to sing to.
5. Something to Sleep To- 7/10- OK. You should listen to it if you want to go to sleep. I still think it's OK.
6. Here With Me- 9/10- Love the beginning and the chorus. It seems like a really good song for a party.
7. Sweet Misery- 6/10- OK also. I just don't really like how the chorus is and it's too short.
8. If Only She Knew- 10/10- Fun and cool. One of my favorites.
9. I'd Rather Be in Love- 7/10- Sounds alot like Sweet Misery.
10. Goodbye to You- 8/10- This is a really pretty song about moving on in life.
11. Drop in the OCean- I don't really get this song. I'm not going to rate it.
Overall, this CD gets an A. It's pretty good. I think you should buy it.

Customer Reviews:
Sorry, Michelle..........2007-06-06
But this CD isn't very good at all. I remember back in 2004 when I first got it, I was very happy with the purchase. But these days, lyrically, this CD just doesn't cut it. It's really angsty which she can't pull off very good.
My favorite song here is definitely Hotel Paper. I could totally relate to that awesome song. But I'm wondering what happened to Michelle between the time she first came out and now. It's not like she is dressing inappropriately or anything, but with the heartache came many, MANY bland songs.
I understand the point of Tuesday Morning, and the lyrics are decent, but it's just a boring song. Just like a lot of the other ones.

Are You Happy Now?
I don't think this CD does Michelle any justice, really. Just get her "first" CD, The Spirit Room and just wait for her next.
Great Music.......2007-03-04
I am a big Michelle Branch fan.
It never ceases to amaze me the powerful sound
that comes out of this womans vocal cords.
I enjoy listening to this and the rest of her CD`s.
My Fave.......2007-02-13
This is my fave CD ever. If you like real music, this is it!
Bad News - Good News.......2006-11-20
Bad news is that I wasted my time listening to this whinefest.
Good news is that I bought it used.
I give it two stars because there are two tolerable songs on the CD and she is a cutie.
More good news. I re-sold it for my purchase price.
Hotel Paper.......2006-10-27
I LOVE HOTEL PAPER!!! This album is much better than "The Spirit Room" because it's more raw and honest...and it's a lot less digital too. Here's my review of "Hotel Paper":
1. Intro- She really could have chosen something better than circus music (Not Graded)
2. Are You Happy Now?- YES I'M HAPPY NOW!!! Awesome rock song and great first single! (A+)
3. Find Your Way Back- Pretty nice pop song...it's got a great summery feel to it (A)
4. Empty Handed- Whoa...that's all I can say about how amazing this song is, just...whoa (A+)
5. Tuesday Morning- This is a very beautiful song and I can't understand why it wasn't sent to radio...Michelle sounds so passionate on it and it would have done great! (A+)
6. One Of These Days- Very beautiful lyrics, and nice, mellow piano parts...an overall great ballad (A+)
7. Love Me Like That (w/ Sheryl Crow)- Well I love Michelle Branch, and I love Sheryl Crow...this is an example of how 1+1=2,000...this song is awesome! (A+)
8. Desperately- This song is very unique and cool...the guitars and vocals are so breezy and great (A+)
9. Breathe- Without a doubt, my favorite on this CD!! It's so catchy and upbeat, and a great summer song! (A++)
10. Where Are You Now?- It took me awhile to like this song, but when I did, I couldn't stop listening to it! (A)
11. Hotel Paper- My third favorite on this CD. It's a great song with a killer chorus! (A+)
12. Til I Get Over You- My second favorite on this CD. The way Michelle sings it just makes you want to bawl your eyes out over an ex (A+)
13. It's You- This is a pretty decent love song...a little repetitive, but still nice, though I have to say it is my least favorite on this CD (A-)

Album Description
For three decades now, the beloved Dry Branch Fire Squad has been a bastion of mountain soul, bluegrass, and old-time music - carrying timeless traditions into the modern era with a blend of reverence, soul, and wit all their own. This special edition thirtieth anniversary collection is designed to complement Rounder's previous Dry Branch anthology, Tried and True (Rounder 11519), and contains material (some previously unreleased) recorded in the twenty years since that collection's release. Under the stewardship of Ron Thomason, Dry Branch Fire Squad has weathered the storms on the sea of time, all to forge an iron-clad brand of defiantly rugged old-time and traditional bluegrass music that imparts essential reminders of the past while unafraid to meet the future head-on.
Customer Reviews:
this group is GREAT.......2007-06-28
Have enjoyed their music for the past 10 years. Have 5 of their CD's and they are great to listen to. Have even given this last one as a birthday gift!
A charming hour that treats us to DBFS's sound since 1989.......2007-05-19
Playing Time - 63:24 -- In the course of a lifetime, turning thirty may bring a few aches and pains. A band achieving that milestone may also experience similar ailments that also come with musical maturity. Back in 1971, mandolinist Ron Thomason was picking with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys. Ricky Skaggs and Keith Whitley were also his bandmates. From Springfield, Ohio, The Dry Branch Fire Squad formed in 1976 and took its name from a small town in Virginia (where Ron was born). The band's successful longevity has been attributed to their raw, mountain-style vocals and Thomason's wry humor as an emcee and storyteller. Until retiring in 1999, Ron was an English and math teacher and junior high assistant principal.
Their ninth album on Rounder Records, this heartfelt 30th anniversary collection only draws material from the label's releases since 1989. The reason is that there was a previous band anthology, "Tried and True," (Rounder 11519) released in 1987. Would it have been better for a 30-year album to also draw material from all three decades, and from as far back as their three pre-Rounder LPs from the 1977-78 timeframe? While their Rounder material has been superior to their earliest recordings, it would've been exciting to document all 30 years with a couple songs like Out on the Blue Ridge Mountain from their earliest 1977 "Live at the Crying Cowboy Concert Saloon" LP (RT-513). Also, the early days of the band emphasized basic, mournful, sensitive vocal duet arrangements with Ron Thomason and tenor John Baker (fiddler Kenny Baker's son). You'll need to get DBFS's 1979, 1981 or 1982 Rounder albums ("Born to be Lonesome," "Antiques and Inventions," or "Fannin' the Flames") to experience them together. Or to hear some of Thomason's originals like "Dak's Song" or "Oh! What a Storm." So, to truly celebrate all 30 years with this band, I recommend also picking up a copy of the 1987 "Tried and True" anthology mentioned earlier.
Among the 21 tracks on "30th Anniversary," there are four previously unreleased songs (He's Coming To Us Dead, Over in the Glory Land, Golden Ring, How Great Thou Art). Although liner notes don't indicate when they were recorded, they're quite recent, and three feature the band's newest lineup of Ron Thomason, Brian Aldridge, Dan Russell and Tommy Boyd. A hit for George Jones and Tammy Wynette, "Golden Ring" is still arranged with Ron's crosspicked guitar, and the song does appear on the band's 1981 album "Antiques and Inventions" with a different group except for common denominator Thomason. The binding thread or glue in all of the band configurations, Ron primarily plays guitar or mandolin. His clawhammer banjo picking appears in two songs - his solo rendition of Grayson & Whitter's "He's Coming To Us Dead" and the band's quartet offering of "The Honest Farmer," accompanied only by fiddle and banjo.
Vocal arrangements capture the emotional essence of their largely traditional bluegrass and gospel canon. On all vocal cuts, Thomason sings lead. In the last two decades, the band's mournful signature sound has also regularly been built around Ron's lead with female tenor or high baritone parts (courtesy of Suzanne Thomas and Mary Jo Leet). All three of them are showcased together in "Dip Your Fingers in Some Water," and the quartet (with Charles Leet singing bass) entitled "When I Went Down in the Valley to Pray." Hazel Dickens, who recalls a time when it was "downright subversive practically to be a woman in bluegrass," sings tenor on "Hide You in the Blood." These songcarriers have kept nuggets like Carter Stanley's "Rollin' on Rubber Wheels" in their repertoire for years. Ron once said that he viewed the band as "spokesmen for a way of life" among the people who originally propagated the music. It's their revitalization of dusty old classic treasures (like A. P. Carter's "A Distant Land To Roam") that has also built their fanbase. Doc Watson simply called it "the old music," folk ballads and the kinds of songs sung by the Carter Family and Grayson & Whitter. Interestingly, their vocal stacking for that A.P. Carter cover includes four vocal parts, but no tenor according to the liner notes.
Instrumentally, the band's unpretentious picking is sufficient for their authentic kind of repertoire. With some electric bass and steel guitar, "Carolyn at the Broken Wheel Inn" is a unique selection. Besides those mentioned above, others in the band have included Dave Edmundson (fiddle, vocals), John Hisey (banjo, vocals), [...] Irwin (bass), Bobby Maynard (fiddle) and Adam McIntosh (banjo, mandolin, vocals). The band's widespread appeal in live performance is also due to their showmanship and stage presence that enhance their purest form bluegrass. The charismatic band opens up, sings and plays with sincerity, and builds rapport. All in all, this is a charming hour that treats us to DBFS's sound since 1989. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

Leon is always great........2004-09-12
Leon is always a treat ... play some of his music when you want to have a happy lazy day.
For the person who wanted the lyrics to prairie lullaby, I found these on the internet and believe they are correct:
Shadows slowly creeping, down the prairie trail. Everything is sleeping, all but the nightingale.
Soon the moon will be climbing across the blue, blue sky, night winds slow and haunting.
This prairie lullaby.
Tumble to bed, my child, my little old sleepy head, the stars are in the sky.
Now that your prayers are said, my little old sleepy head to this prairie lullaby.
Saddle up your ponies, to sail with you, lead you down a trail of dreams.
Stumble to bed, my child, my little old sleepy head, to this prairie lullaby.
Saddle up your ponies to sail with you, lead you down a trail of dreams.
Now that your prayers are said, you can get to bed, to this prairie lullaby.

Leon Redbone is a true martian in the world of music.I even don't know about his age, although I listen to him for some 20 years.Every record by Leon is a gem, almost his early recordings in which he plays a lot of guitar; and when Leon plays guitar, he's truly amazing, somewhere between Blind Blake and Joseph Spence. There are great tunes in this record,a beautiful lullaby ("prairie lullaby"),tributes to Jelly Roll Morton ("Te-na-na" and the marvelous "why",to tunes recorded by Jelly Roll in his 1940 session, thelast he ever made),a tribute to Blind Blake too ("step it up and go"); let's say that Leon may be the guy that was the closer ever to Blind Blake;he can play outstanding things like Blind Blake did.Redbone's smoky voice is amazing in every tune. There is also a marvelous "extra blues",and a salute to the great Ukulele Ike,"when you wish upon a star".Backing Leon, you can listen to Dr John,Grady Tate,Bob Cranshaw and Ed Polcer.A great trip back to the pre-war years.
One of a kind!.......1999-04-30
Leon is fabulous! Great musicians too. Jack Maheu makes it for me.
Check out the Salt City Six and Dukes of Dixieland if you don't believe me!
This, comming from a tuba player!
However, the recording engineer has no clue whatsoever! A VERY poor recording for contemporary standards. I would bet that even the master tape couldn't be cleaned up. Very shoddy work here! I could do beter with a dixie cup and a string to a scully lathe burning hot direct to platten.
If you are an audiophile, run away! If you have an unconditional love for jazz, go for it!
This could/should have been recorded better!

Great........1999-03-23
Splendid work of listening pleasure
I love this CD! I have it and it is my favorite........1999-02-13
I would like to ask where I can get the words to Prairie Lullaby so I can sing with Leon Redbone when I am rocking my grandchildren to sleep.

Great Harmonica Blues.......2007-02-21
I bought this CD because of the great song "My Eyes Keep Me In Trouble".
The rest of the songs is pretty good too. If you like the blues, you can check this CD out. If you like the harmonica, this album, like Charlie Musselwhite's album Delta Harware, is a must-have.
Blues Harp At It's Best!.......2002-07-16
Harp Attack features 4 harp masters performing 11 songs for over 50 minutes of fabulous harp drenched blues. The disc also features an all star backing band featuring Lucky Peterson ("Double Dealin'") on piano, Michael Coleman ("Do Your Thing!") on guitar, Johnny B. Gayden on Bass and Ray "Killer" Allison on drums. Gayden and Allison are stalwarts of the blues and have backed up the likes of Johnny Winter, Son Seal, Larry McCray, Dave Hole, Buddy Guy and Don Griffin. The CD does an excellent job of maintaining cohesiveness, highlighting and then blending the various styles and vocals of these individuals without elevating the songs to jam status. While the disc does not break new ground, there is a lot of fun here.
Severely dissappointing.......2002-06-12
Let me just say that I think James Cotton is one of the greats as well as Carey Bell and Junior Wells. I don't know much about Billy Branch and I don't care. This record in terms of blues power has maybe 2 good ones, and a very big maybe- 4 tops. It would seem like a great album by reading the credits but this just didn't go down right. I can't insult these guys as great players but this just gets old real real quick and it is nowhere near what these guys can do individually. Sometimes these all-star jams produce something far greater than each player-here the depth is just lost. Lucky Peterson Plays on it and though he has great technical skill, is real low on taste and soul here it seems to me. As for the fun side of it- it wears thin for me and I rarely take it off my shelf. Out of about 3 or 4 hundred recordings in my collection- this I take out one of the least. And that is just for a fine rendition of Black Night by Cotton. This just didn't work I am sorry to say. I would strongly recommend that you hear 4 or 5 of these tracks before shelling out a ridiculous amount of money to buy the cd. I just can't say that this record is worth it at all. A solo album by one of these fellas would be more worth the while. It is just mostly songs that don't stand up to the passing of time like an old Howlin' Wolf record is. I just don't care for it and think you are better off somewhere else. If you want a recommendation for a great find than here are two of my favorites of all time : West Side Soul, by Magic Same Maghett and T-Bone Blues, by T-Bone Walker. This is just a fluke in these guys careers I think.
Essential Harmonica Recording.......2001-02-16
By the time I purchased this album I had already been playing harp for a few months, had heard several good recordings and was preparing to attend my first jam. This album forever altered my perspective. The harmonica here is 100% pure talent. This is the album the solidified my relationship with Blues Harp. The playing on this is simply stellar, and the choice of players offer a diverse approach to style, from Cotton's ferocious, high energy playing to Wells' more soulful, precise wails. Every song here offers something, from the blues party style of Down Home Blues to the mornful tones of Black Night. What really makes this album happen, though, is the obvious enjoyment these guys get from playing together (demonstrated well in My Eyes Keep Me In Trouble). If Junior Wells hadn't passed away I would say a follow up from this group was in order. But as long as I have this masterpiece, I'll be happy. If you like Blues Harp, GET THIS!
Got me hooked on blues harp.......1999-12-23
This is the Cd that hooked me on blues harp - had it over 3 years now and it still is one of the best. Four of the greatest having what was obviously a great time playing. A must have if you like the true low down harp music.

Non traditional music.......2006-07-01
Most of this musich is a non traditional Michele Branch CD. I ordered it for my wife and she did not like it at all. I am a drummer and the more I listen to it the more I like it, but that is not why i ordered it.
A Masterpiece!.......2004-09-22
what can i say? if some1 would come up to me and ask me about one of the most talented artists in the world, id recommend to them Michelle Branch! i truly love her music... i wish the best for her new single!
Great Remixes.....Wonderful Songs !.......2004-04-30
Excellente Single, Lastima que no haya funcionado muy bien, pero de todos modos es un trabajo sorprendente.
Great pop song with excellent club remixes.......2004-04-22
I was surprised to see Michelle Branch release a Maxi single with club remixes on cos she doesn't seem to be the kind of artist who would usually do that but it's really cool that she tries new stuff and reaches out to other people than the segment of fans who already love her music. There's a little bit of something for everyone on this Maxi and here's a rundown on the different versions.
1. Album Version (03:31) - The original of this song which can be heard on the album "Hotel Paper" and in the video.
2. The Passengerz Tuff Club (08:01) - These guys give the song a deep club feel with a pounding beat and almost hypnotic vocal effects. The bassline is awesome and I can see this remix do well on the dancefloor in a nightclub.
3. Chris Cox Penetrating Club Mix (08:53) - This is perhaps the most popular remix of this song and also one of Chris' most successful remixes after he and Barry Harris went seperate ways after their success as the remix duo Thunderpuss. Chris stays true to the old TP sound in this remix while adding elements of rock into it at the same time and the result is truly brilliant! It fits the song perfectly and the breakdown is really gorgeous with a great following build-up. My favorite remix and it really is the stand-out track on this CD Maxi.
4. Sean Konnery Resportator Club Mix (06:56) - This remix is really weird. The beats remind me a bit of Club 69's remix of Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters" but I find the other elements of the remix kinda freaky. The chorus is okay though.
5. Dave Hernandez Club Mix (07:22) - This is house with a disco twist to it and a few pianos added in for good measure. The vocals are slightly offbeat in the first verse and they're placed really weird all throughout, totally different from the song's original structure. Still, this remix is much better than Sean Konnery's somewhat strange effort.
6. High Bias Radio Mix (03:35) - A nice dance remix that stays true to the original. The vocals seem re-sung for this remix and it's cool to hear Michelle actually singing on a dance track. The vocals are a bit stronger in the original, but still a great remix.
7. The Passengerz Tuff Radio (03:56) - A shorter version of the slamming club mix perfect for radio play.
8. Sean Konnery Resportator Radio Edit (04:11) - For me the club mix of this was more than enough so a second go at it kinda makes my ears bleed. Only good thing about it is that it's shorter.
This is a great single if you're a Michelle Branch fan cos in addition to a great song you get five remixers who each give it their own touch and the result is a wicked Maxi single that is truly worth having in your record collection.
Ms. Michelle Branch Breathe Remixes!.......2004-02-04

This 1995 recording captures the Squad's mixture of hillbilly humor (allegedly the basis for much of Jeff Foxworthy's work) and their formidable folk and bluegrass. Lead jokester Ron Thomason handles the comedy with an exaggerated drawl and a somewhat trite hillbillies-are-dumb theme. When it comes to actual music, however, the Squad can truly light it up. Thomason's mandolin and Bill Evans' banjo impressively race through standards including "John Henry," "Late Last Night," and "Blue Grass Breakdown." Gentle ballads such as "Aragon Mill" and the lovely "Hard Times" are handled with sensitivity while "Red Rocking Chair" showcases Suzanne Thomas' clawhammer banjo. While the comedy may become stale (especially after repeated listenings), it's nothing the CD program function can't handle. --Marc Greilsamer

If You Can Only Buy One, This is it!.......2003-02-10
I own every single CD and most of the preceeding albums that this band has produced. I play them all, but Live! At Last is my favorite, as it is the only one that captures a hint of their live performances. (Although after awhile, you skip the stories--you can only hear them so many times...) When Ron Thomason sings Aragon Mills, he is, without a doubt, an out-of-work mill worker. The song breaks my heart. If you have to make a choice, make this your first DBFS CD. There's not a loser in the bunch, though. And I have to agree with the other reviewers; Dry Branch Fire Squad MUST be seen live to be fully appreciated.
Live Bluegrass!.......2002-04-07
Dry Branch Fire Squad offers a range of bluegrass & gospel music in this live CD, plus several tracks of the comic interludes common to their performances. Seeing them in concert is an unforgettable experience, but owning this CD is the next best thing to seeing them live. Dry Branch plays everything from the old-timey traditional bluegrass (try the song sample above for "Little Red Rocking Chair") to fast-paced banjo (check out "Bluegrass Breakdown") to variations on folk ("Aragon Mill") & gospel ("Goin' Up on the Mountain"). I've seen Dry Branch in concert for over 10 years now & this CD is the one I listen to when I'm waiting for them to come back to town. My all-time favorite songs on the album are "Hard Times" and "Walk the Streets of Glory." Whether you're new to bluegrass or a longtime fan, you'll enjoy Dry Branch Fire Squad's CD "Live! At Last". I started out listening to this as a tape, but after 5 non-stop years of play, I finally managed to break it, so now it's on my short list of favorite CD's. Try it out!.
Wonderful mix of music........2001-07-24
Nobody can sound like Ron of DBFS.I promise you will love this CD.
Outstanding!.......1999-11-07
I bought this CD on a recommendation from my father-in-law, and I have to say that I am totally pleased. My family has roots that run deep into the Appalachian Mountains and Ron Thomason's tall tales tell stories of a people with whom I am very familiar. You simply have to add this album to your collection if you are a bluegrass fan.
Captivating music, humor, and style!.......1999-06-17
To see this group in person is a wonderfully memorable experience. To have them on a live album is a gift. Their talent is exceptional. Their humor, spotlighted in leader Ron Thomasson - who also plays a mean mandolin, keeps one laughing inside long after the show. Ron comes across as the personification of an Appalachian hillbilly, but his intelligence cannot be hidden as the funny stories teach unforgettable lessons about life and our country's history. And yet, with all of the laughs there is a deep haunting reality to the music. This is bluegrass at its best: pickin', singin', story tellin'... nonstop talent from a class group of "hillbillys".

Phenomenal!.......2003-06-27
Memories That Bless and Burn is my first exposure to Dry Branch Fire Squad and I must say that this is a phenomenal work. Having Hazel Dickens onboard to help sing Hide You in the Blood was an added bonus. MTBAB runs the entire spectrum of traditional bluegrass gospel from raucous foot-stomping tunes to sparse duets to a capella quartets. If you're a fan of bluegrass gospel music, MTBAB is a must for your collection.
DBFS sings the gospel.......2002-06-20
This is a whole CD of the Appalachian gospel for which Dry Branch is justifiably famous. You can tell that this music never got near Nashville; it is true and unadulturated.
My personal favorites are "When I Went Down In The Valley To Pray" and "If I Could Just Touch The Hem of His Garment." Both are sung a cappella and reflect the fervent (almost preaching) style of the genre.
"When I Went Down..." is fundamentally the same song that Alison Krauss made famous on the "O Brother" soundtrack, but I actually prefer this version - it's more vibrant. You can *see* the preacher in the little mountain church half-talking half-singing this.
If you're new to Dry Branch, (1) get this CD, (2) get their "Live at Last" CD (which includes some of band leader Ron Thomason's hysterical monologues), and most importantly (3) see the band live.

Taking the blues to a new level.......2003-02-04
Just in case you thought Chicago Blues was an artifact of the past, Lurrie and Billy presents Chicago blues with a more current sound.
Just in case you thought Chicago Blues was only about an improvised "blues feeling", Lurrie and Billy bring the traditions of the Chicago Blues to the foreground.
A great album for both its embrace of the past and its reach for the future.
