This is not a review about Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon's hair. However--as any self-respecting fan knows--in country music, after proving you can pluck a guitar and carry a tune, the power of the right hairstyle is not to be underestimated. Johnny Cash, in fact, was famously vain about his locks--perhaps one of the few things he was vain about--and many a guitar store employee can attest to the fact that when the Man in Black came in to buy his special brand of guitar pick, his hair was dyed a jet black more often seen on a boy of 20 than a man of 60. In any case, Phoenix and Witherspoon's performances as Johnny and June Carter Cash succeed more in the style and hair department than in their musicality. Phoenix fares better than his co-star in reinventing the Cash mystique, and his sweet, almost earnest interpretation of "Get Rhythm" is as charming as it is honest. Unfortunately, the powerful song "Ring of Fire" is flat and wholly without the narrative pull it had when Cash sang it. And Witherspoon is simply not up to the warbling task she's faced with in singing as June Carter Cash. (To be fair, it's hard to know who would be, but the estimable Loretta Lynn or Tift Merritt would have had better luck). Carter Cash's honeyed gift with melody, and the largeness of her voice, honed over decades in live performance, is hard to replicate for even a seasoned singer, and predictably, Witherspoon falls short of the mark. It's certainly seductive to imagine that playing a figure as compelling as Johnny or June would allow an actor to channel the soul and some of the talent of the artist, but the closest this record comes is in "Cry, Cry, Cry," where Phoenix's gravelly voice offers the same sustained thrill that made Johnny Cash irresistible--to June and his fans. --Megan Halverson

Not a carbon copy.......2007-07-08
Within the liner notes of the gem of a CD, the director of the movie "Walk the Line" was quoted as saying he wasn't looking for a Johnny Cash impersonator, but for somebody who could make the legend come alive.
I personally really like Joaquin Phoenix' smooth, sexy voice. My favorites are "Get Rhythm" and "Walk the Line."
I strongly reccommend this CD.
Walk the line CD.......2007-06-13
The music was wonderful. I think Reese Witherspoon needs to do more signing. I certainly would buy her CD
walk the line.......2007-06-09
Disappointed with this CD lacked body and character music sounded thin and repetative
Walk the Line.......2007-06-01
A wonderful movie. Joaquin Phoenix was ideal as the young Johnny Cash - 19 to 37 years, The producers said they didn't want an actor and actress to portray John and June precisely and this is what I saw. The singing and guitar playing was right on. Joaquin should have won an Oscar also!
Great.......2007-05-17
I bought the cd for my husband who is a huge fan of the movie. He absolutely loves the cd! He has practically worn it out listening to it.

AWESOME SOUNDTRACK BUT.........2007-06-15
A WALK TO REMEMBER THE SOUNDTRACK EXTENDED EDTION IS SO AWESOME. I LOVE ALL OF THE SONGS ESPECIALLY MANDY MOORE'S CRY AND BOTH VERSIONS OF SWITCHFOOT'S ONLY HOPE. THERE IS ALSO MANDY MOORE'S MUSIC VIDEO CRY ON THE DISC AS A SPECIAL FEATURE. BUT I HAVE ONE PROBLEM WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE MISSY ELLIOT'S SONG GET UR FREAK ON ON THIS SOUNDTRACK. BECAUSE THEY PLAY THIS SONG IN THE MOVIE. I WAS AND I AM NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. OTHERWISE THEN THAT A AM VERY HAPPY:) GREAT FOR A WALK TO REMEMBER FANS AND MANDY MOORE FANS AND PEOPLE ALIKE. LIKE I SAID IN MY OPINION AWESOME!
A little from both worlds........2007-02-02
You have some easy listening and some classic rock-n-roll. If you liked the movie, you'll love the sound track. The only thing I don't like is the fact that they put Landon Carter's voice over the beginning and then at the end of Jamie Sullivan's version of "Only Hope". The words are actually part of the movie and it works if you've seen it, but I think they could have left it out. It might have worked out better if they would have placed the dialogue before the song starts and then after it ends, but instead it cuts into the piano at the beginning and a little of Jamie Sullivan's "Oooo's" at the end. None of this changes the fact that the soundtrack is AWESOME!
Soundtrack to A Walk to Remember.......2007-01-11
I can stop playing this soundtrack. It has a variety of music. Mandy Moore has a beautiful voice.
Beautiful........2007-01-07
This is an amazing soundtrack with some beautiful entries by Mandy Moore who starred in A Walk To Remember the special film adaption of Nicholas Sparks extremly moving novel.
This expanded edition soundtrack is rare and at this price you should not miss out! With various other bands contributing to this soundtrack including Switchfoot it is one not to be missed!
A beautiful item to add to your music collection if the movie holds a special place in your heart.
Great CD, if you're a fan of the movie.......2006-11-05
If you didn't see the movie, you probably won't like the soundtrack. The songs don't stick to a theme. It's not exactly easy listening, but Mandy Moore makes it what it is.

It's hard to hear The Walk from end to end without wishing the brothers Hanson could go back in time and undo the career-stunting megahit that was "MmmBop." If it wasn't for that 1997 song, catchy and guilty-pleasurable as it was, the boys would be well on their way to winning over the kind of committed audience a disc as focused and fine-tuned as this one deserves. There's nothing particularly high-minded here (excepting the single "Great Divide," a downloadable track whose sales will benefit an African orphanage), but each song radiates a level of pop-rock accomplishment that surpasses most anything you'll hear on top 40 radio. Hanson, in fact, has more in common with acts like Fountain of Wayne and Amos Lee these days than anybody you'll see strutting across a TV screen in skin-tight pants. Highlights on a disc without a single dud include "Georgia," contemplatively sung by Taylor, and "Running Man," an addictive Squeeze-meets-Beatles rock ditty co-written by Zac. In its 15-year history, Hanson has won the right to talk the talk about the hardships and satisfactions of maturing musically; The Walk backs that talk up beautifully. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
Surprisingly Good.......2007-07-24
I bought the actual album while in the UK...
OK, I'll be the first to admit that I was not a fan of Hanson in their "mmmbopp stage". However, they have now matured to a band that writes and plays not what other people want, but what they feel is right for them. I didn't know they were around any more until I saw their Great Divide music video on the tv. As I watched that video I had no idea who the band was, but I certainly had to find out. Much to my great surprise it was Hanson. I went back and bought their previous album Underneath and it was good, I liked most of the tracks.
Then when this album came out I had to check it out. Up to the release I downloaded the podcast from iTunes and watched their Underneath podcast which exposes the American Music Industry and the corruption that money has done. Then they had a podcast for The Walk which featured the making of just about every track. I kid you not, by watching this podcast I had a greater appreciation for all bands that wrote and played their own music.
Now about The Walk. This is an absolutely great album that I think a lot of people would like if they didn't know it was by Hanson. As a band they have such a negative stigma in America and if you liked them as a kid, well, you just didn't let anyone know. This album is completely different. I played some of the tracks for friends without telling them the artist and they loved it. When I told them it was Hanson they were blown away. I can listen to this album without skipping over any tracks.
**Great Divide** - Has a gospel feel to it without going too far. They incorporate the rock nicely with the guitar and drum beats that really pull everything together.
**Been There Before** - This is honestly my favorite track, it has an infectious beat that gets everyone moving their heads. Really great melodies and interesting lyrics.
**Georgia** - A typical track of sorts, but has an upbeat tempo that keeps you entertained.
**Watch Over Me** - This is just a great track lyrically. "She waits and takes her place in line, never bothers asking why. The mirror sheds no light at all. The days turn into lesser days until there's only night and light wouldn't help... she's too far gone." It is a song that everyone can relate to, everyone knows someone like that. A person that is stuck in a rut and daily seems to be going in the same direction. It would be a sad song, but Isaac has that gruff voice that strains in the high notes and makes into a bit of an alternative track.
**Running Man** - A "party track" as it says in the first couple seconds. Totally upbeat, not totally rock, but the vocals are excellent.
**Go** - Ok, there is a music video out about this one so I'll let you form your own opinion... YouTube it.
**Fire On the Mountain** - Powerful message and it isn't hidden, they put it out there and if you have any background in the subject you'll get it.... "We sit secure in time-honored traditions made. Never wondering where or when the Sickle may come. If we don't seek our knowledge to be greater men. When the rain Starts falling gonna drown before we get our feet wet."
**One More** - The piano ties holds this track together. A bit slower than most of the other tracks, except Go. However, it isn't that horribly slow mushy track. This one also has a great message.
**Blue Sky** - Comes in nicely after a slower track and is upbeat with a bit of the African choir that can be heard in Great Divide.
**Tearing It Down** - While Blue Sky had almost a painful note in the vocals this track is a bit more smooth. However, the track doesn't stop - you can always hear the drums and the guitar through everything.
**Something Goin' Round** -"Are you falling asleep at the wheel? Maybe there's a feeling you've been pushing off." ... "I've got this something that's been going round, you don't know it, but you need it now" I've said this about a few other tracks, but when you listen to this album in it's entirety you either get the underlying message 'cause you know it or "you don't know it, but you need it"... Great track, definitely upbeat.
**Your Illusion** - A slower track that somewhat tugs at the heart strings if you or someone you've known has been in the situation. It's about someone "wasting life" and wanting to commit suicide and "placing their blame on everyone else."
**The Walk** - The lyrics sum up the entire album. A bit slower track, mostly just vocals and a piano.
Great album altogether. I didn't put the lyrics to all the tracks because you can look them up. If you own the album already or are thinking about getting it look up the lyrics so you know what you're listening to. There is an underlying religious theme to this album. It doesn't come out and beat it over your head. As a matter of fact, you won't notice it unless you have a background in the church and to take it a step further - a deep background in Biblical passages. They don't come out and say anything or try to convert anyone, they're just writing about life, a life that everyone knows and lives. Does this take away from the album? Not at all, secular and non-secular alike are going to love this album...

Richard Rodgers always considered Carousel his favorite score, even though it didn't generate the number of popular hits of some of the other shows he produced with lyricist Oscar Hammerstein II. Their adaptation of the Ferenc Molnar play Liliom is marked by three especially sublime moments. "The Carousel Waltz," Rodgers's alternative to the traditional Broadway overture, serves as an orchestral backdrop to the opening scene and is one of the best miniatures ever written for the theater. "If I Loved You," which establishes the romance of carnival barker Billy Bigelow (Gordon MacRae, a late replacement for Frank Sinatra) and nice girl Julie Jordan (Shirley Jones), is a musical minidrama in which the pair's discussion of how they are not in love reveals just how much they are in love. "Soliloquy" is Billy's powerful solo that foreshadows the action to come in Act II. Add the inspirational anthem "You'll Never Walk Alone," and you have Rodgers and Hammerstein's most extraordinary, near-operatic score. On the soundtrack for the 1956 film, MacRae and Jones are in exceptional voice (following their success in 1955's Oklahoma) and the orchestra sounds glorious, but unfortunately some of the numbers were shortened, most notably "If I Loved You." Extensive production notes, an interview with Jones, and a synopsis are included. --David Horiuchi

AWESOME!!.......2007-05-12
LOVE SOUND TRACTS FROM OLD MOVIES - SING ALONGS AND THE BEST ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING AND CAN SING LOUD. IT IS A KEEPER
MacRae and Jones soar in this tragic R&H musical.......2007-02-11
This film adaptation of Carousel came shortly after the Oklahoma! film and reunited Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones. Although the film was not well-received at the box office, the soundtrack shows MacRae, Jones and the superb cast performing their roles to their heart's content. Their performance helps bring out the pathos in this tragic R&H musical, which Rodgers himself considered his favourite of all his works.
MacRae shines vocally as Billy Bigelow, bringing an open-hearted musicality and sincerity to his stout-hearted portrayal. MacRae stands out in Billy's pivotal Soliloquy, which some reviewers have considered one of the finest vocal performances of the 20th century. He is well-partnered by Shirley Jones, who lends her tender voice and personality to her portrayal as Julie. Listen to the chemistry they exude during the pivotal If I Loved You duet, as if they're overcoming their shyness and drawing sustenance from each other with their love. The supporting cast also gives its all in performing their roles. Claramae Turner's hearty Nettie brims with sincerity, warmth and tenderness, and she leads a rousing rendition of June is Bustin' Out All Over and renders You'll Never Walk Alone touchingly. Barbara Ruick and Robert Rounseville are superb as Carrie and Mr. Snow, although I admit I would have liked a little more humour. I also admit I would have liked Cameron Mitchell as Jigger to sound more sinister, like Fisher Stevens did in the 1994 Broadway revival recording. But even as it is, everyone sings gloriously and is given sumptuous backing from Alfred Newman's superb arrangements and the 20th-Century Fox Orchestra, when it shines out in the ballets.
If I'm adding to the praise of these critic-proof performance, you'll wonder, why am I giving only 4 stars? Well, it's because the extra sound effects from the unreleased sequences tend to jar after a while. I know some of you are complaining that the dance sequences are plagued by extraneous sound effects and noise. I share the same feelings too and also wish that the producers had utilised the original studio pre-recordings for a sumptuous listening experience. However, let us at least be grateful that Didier Deutsch and his production team have made these unreleased sequences available on a soundtrack CD reissue. At least it's a step in the right direction before the entire canon of R&H film soundtracks (yes, including South Pacific and The Sound of Music) gets its due as deluxe 2-CD sets, complete with underscore.
However, don't let this gripe dissuade you from buying this soundtrack. It offers a complete musical experience that one could only dream of in the previous CD reissues of the soundtrack. And it demonstrates the element that Rodgers & Hammerstein were discovering in their musicals.
Great Music.......2007-01-04
Rogers and Hammerstein were in a different league when it came to writing musicals. Their music, lyrics and story are never alike. These two partners were exceptional and their music shows it. Carousel is a tragic story but also shows that human nature can rise above adversity. The music is wonderful and the characters believable. A great movie.
Response to David Pabian's review below.......2004-06-30
Response to David Pabian's review:
My review was not in error, as Mr. Pabian expects. The review was for the original CD release, not this expanded version. Amazon lifted it out of that spot and dropped it here, which of course makes it anachronistic. Why they did it without reading it is certainly an inept decision.
Gummed up an Original.......2003-06-10
This overblown "completeitis" has got to stop. The original soundtrack album Carousel Waltz is now relegated to Appendix status, and terrible sonics accompany dancers' footstomping in the "new" expanded musical sequences, taken directly from the soundtrack rather than from still-existing musical tracks. There was a reason soundtrack recordings were studio performances. The proportions were right, the timings were correct for an overall BALANCED listening experience. These gawdawful expanded editions, often with dialogue thrown in, completely throw off those balances. An argument might be made for expanded sequences appropriate to a CDs longer playing time than the standard L.P. 45min., but possibly only if those sequences are from their original studio-recorded, pre release-print mix -- which could have easily been done in this case. A quick word on one of the above reviews: This is not the first time the complete Carousel Waltz is heard in stereo. There were two previous CD remasterings of the original soundtrack whereon it was included. And the reprise of "If I loved You" was part of every soundtrack release, mono and stereo.

England's Faces (1970-1975) wound up playing stadiums, but they always had a compact, pub-band feel. They were proud boozers, tuning up wasn't a major obsession, and Rod Stewart (in pre-disco prime) always sounded like he'd sung himself hoarse the night before. They kept the mood light, but ensemble work was deceptively tight, thanks to drummer Kenney Jones (later Keith Moon's replacement in the Who) and guitarist Ron Wood (post-Jeff Beck, pre-Stones), who'd switch between raunchy lead and raunchy rhythm roles between beats. Wood's blues-drenched slide work snuffed most of his rock competition, and helped define the band's wiry sound. But Faces offered more than teapot blues. Tuneful bassist Ronnie Lane's sweet voice and countryish melodies--think "Ooh La La," revived as the movie Rushmore's closing theme--both lightened and deepened the texture. Keyboardist Ian McLagan picked and sequenced 67 tracks, programming them out of chronological order, to flow like concert sets. Included are abundant rarities--out-takes, b-sides, rehearsals, BBC-broadcast excerpts--including live takes of songs Faces recorded under Stewart's name, like "Gasoline Alley" and "Maggie May." (A few tunes are heard in live and studio versions.) It's a very good selection of music that wears remarkably well. --Kevin Whitehead

From 1969 to 1975 the Faces - Rod Stewart, Ian McLagan, Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, and Kenney Jones - played their loose and joyful blues and soul-inflected rock 'n' roll with reckless abandon, consummate skill, and immeasurable charm. For those few years they were arguably the greatest band on the planet, and their influence has resonated ever since through the music of countless acts, from the Sex Pistols to The Replacements to The Black Crowes, and on and on. After the Faces dissolved in 1975, Stewart went on to solo superstardom, Wood to the Stones, Jones to The Who, McLagan to world - class session work and his own recordings, and Lane to acclaimed solo projects before he succumbed to multiple sclerosis in 1997. Greater than the sum of its parts, the Faces made now - immortal music for which there will never, ever be a last call.

One of the best rock'n roll box sets ever.......2007-05-29
I wasn't terribly familiar with the Faces, but a friend got this and I was blown away. Booze and blues. Great stuff. A four discs are fantastic. If you like British blues this is for you.
Only negative is the packaging is the typical nonsense these days. It is a book format with four overlapping CDs. What should come is four jewel cases with a separate book. The book here is epoxied to the binder and weak and anything resembling a digipak sucks and scratches the discs.
Put the discs in jewel cases and enjoy the book.
Great stuff.
Oh La La!.......2007-04-19
Always had a soft spot in me heart for Ronnie Lane and the Faces...best show I ever saw matter of fact to this very day...what I remember of it that is...Woody's slippin' and slidin' up against Mac's snortin' B-3 (can't forget his Wurly too) and a singer (what's your name again?) that didn't require a mike...would recommend this box set w/ several thumbs up.
Five Guys with Rod.......2007-01-15
Great CD. Had 1 skipping track but other than that defect the best
collection of Rod and Faces that I've yet to hear together in one package.
Great info too on the band with an included booklet.
Truly the best from Rod's rocking era.
The best thing about these selections is that they are from a member of the band : Ian McLagan, the pianist/organist.
Very little known tracks that made the band's personality come to life are featured. Some rehearsal tracks are not too intriguing. They are rehearsals. By and Large this CD collection is well worth the money for any Faces fan who saw them live in concert in the 70's.
alcohol, blues, cigarros, rock, trasnoche, funk, fiesta, soul y mujeres galopando...........2006-10-24
a drummer for a long ago opening band.......2006-09-27
Never think for a moment that THE FACES were not the epitome of sincere & home grown good guys. They were a force in rock that could not be challenged. At 53 yrs now I wish those wonderful days could be known to a musically inept bunch of cretans

Probably the best compilation of a single composer's works. Ever!.......2007-05-06
Claude Debussy is perhaps the most understated composer in the history of man. His ability to compose both on the piano and for orchestra is unmatched, in my humble opinion. The fact that Debussy was able to also arrange many contemporary and previous composers' works just adds to his resume. He had a gift, pure and simple.
Although this album doesn't (well, honestly it couldn't) contain all of Debussy's catalog, it does certainly contain some of his best work. There is actually only one track on this CD that I don't care for; that would be Golligwogg's Cake-Walk; it is just a bit annoying to me.
Beyond my dislike for that one track, the entire CD is a beautifully aranged, beautifully played, well recorded compilation with good sound mixing and it is a respectful tribute to a truly great composer.
"Claire de Lune" (Moonlighting) is perhaps one of the most gorgeous pieces of music ever composed; this is the orchestrated version, which I prefer, but the piano version is nice. "Arabesque No. 1" is superb. "Fetes" is both haunting and airy. "Reverie" is the best piano piece I have ever heard. "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" is also a wonderful piano piece. "The Sunken Cathedral" is dark and mysterious, a true wonder.
The rest of the album is fantastic. Listed above are just my personal favorites from the disc. I listen to this CD at least once a week, but often more. It is perfect for relaxation, for listening while reading, or for my personal favorite use, to block out noise while I am writing.
I would recommend this to any classical lover.
If you have not heard Debussy's music, you must get this CD; it will have you ordering more of his compositions almost immediately.
The man was a genius.
I would also add that if you enjoy this, I recommend that you continue your Debussy experience with the following: Debussy: Orchestral Works I and Debussy: Orchestral Works II
This is a brilliant assembly of Debussy. .......2006-07-08
After listening to his "Greatest Hits," I know why he is considered one of the best.
THIS IS THE STUFF RIGHT HERE!.......2005-09-12
I BOUGHT THIS BECAUSE I WAS TRYING EXPAND MY HORIZONS, YOU KNOW? CULTURALLY AND MENTALLY, YOU KNOW? SERIOUSLY THOUGH I WAS IN THE SHOP AND I WAS HAVING A GAZE AROUND THE PLACE AND THEN THIS PICTURE JUST JUMPS OUT AT ME, AND I PICKED IT UP AND IT WAS THIS DEBUSSY CHAP AND ID HEARD ABOUT HIM ON THE BBC LEARNING ZONE SO I THOUGHT ;why not?; SERIOUSLY THOUGH I DRAGGED IT HOME AND I POPPED IT IN THE OLD CD PLAYER AND IT FLOORED ME.......I MEAN SERIOUSLY THIS THING...AMAAZING STUFF..I MEAN TODAYS MUSIC HAS NOTHING, NOTHING NOTHING ON THIS STUFF RIGHT HERE.
SOME GOOD TRACKS ARE:
TRACK 1 IS THE BEST. THE OPENING FLUTE ON THE TRACK IS TOTALLY CHILLED AND COOL, REMINDS ME A BIT OF TRACK 13 ON ILL COMMUNICATION BY THE BEASTIE BOYS...A COINCIDENCE???
THE ONLY WEAK TRACK ON THE ALBUM IS TRACK 6, THE UNFORTUNATELY TITLED "CHILDRENS CORNER SUITE: GOLLIWOGGS CAKE WALK" THE MUSIC IS JUST DATED MAN, JUST AS DATED AS THE TITLE.
OVERALL THOUGH THIS IS A QUALITY ALBUM, WITH CHILLS, SPILLS AND THRILLS. SERIOUSLY THOUGH A FINE EFFORT.
Debussy is the best. Ever........2004-07-23
I love Debussy and all of his brilliant work. I barely listen to any other classical music, so I am not an authority, just an honest lover of music. I play piano and love piano music, so I was not disappointed at a piano Flaxen-Haired Girl. I've never heard an orchestrated version and don't need to. This is a good introductory CD to Debussy's work, I love it! The only thing I don't care for is the Arabesque #1 (Track 9). The horn is kind of grating and clunky to hear in such an otherwise beautiful piece. Still, its interesting and different. Everything Debussy made is purest gold.
i am dumb.......2004-07-01
And I'm a doomass because I didn't proof-read my other review and I wrote that Clair de Lune was performed by piano on this disc, which it isn't. Anyway, the piano version is better.

Back in 1990, three of the world's most celebrated tenors--namely, José Carreras, Plácido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti--combined forces to create the Three Tenors, now celebrated on a best-of CD. They gave their first concert in Rome. The event was recorded and went on to become one of the best-selling classical titles of all time.
This latest release brings together tracks from that night in Rome (including "Nessun dorma" and a competitive rendition of "O sole mio") with music performed in a 1994 concert in Los Angeles and at the 1998 event in Paris where the Three Tenors sang to an audience of thousands with the Eiffel Tower as their backdrop.
The 22 tracks making up The Best of the Three Tenors range from operatic standards, such as the joyful "Brindisi" from La Traviata, to popular songs like "Singin' in the Rain" and "You'll Never Walk Alone" (from Carousel). There are no solos on this disc; each piece is performed by all three singers. And with plenty of applause and cheering to be heard, not to mention the sense of fun in the singers' voices, the disc captures the atmosphere of these extraordinary musical events. --Rebecca Agnew
Customer Reviews:
Nice songs from this album.......2007-07-22
This is the first album I have acquired of the Three Tenors, and it was wonderful. The selections were easy to listen to and familiar to me. None of the heavy operatic selections. It is the best. I will buy more albums of them.
Not bad.......2006-03-18
This is a good recording. If you don't like the 3 tenors, then look else where. It's that simple. These are recordings from concerts where they WERE supposed to show off. This ain't opera. If you want opera, go out and attend one.
The best from the three greatest..........2005-08-11
The first thing we must establish here is that this is not meant to be opera. This is three exceptionally talented tenors enjoying themselves and giving tremendous joy to those listening by singing mostly popular "evergreens" and also some operatic arias. The beauty in music lies in the diversity, in my opinion. One can better appreciate one type of music when one knows about the others. And why should we limit ourselves to listen to just one genre in music. It would be the same as having steak for dinner every day for the rest of your life, wouldn't it? So why should we limit three wonderful tenors to only sing operatic arias for the rest of their lives? If so we wouldn't have "Maria", "You'll never walk alone", "Singing in the rain" or any of the evergreens on this recording and that would be a shame.
There are no solos on the cd. I think I've read somewhere that they felt there had been enough "three tenors cd's" and if they were to release yet another one it would be one containing what the audience demands, the three of them joining forces and performing together in the songs.
The result, in my opinion is highly recommendable. The three voices blend perfectly together. I have to admit that I have a personal favourite among the tenors and that I would never buy an entire recording featuring only one of the two others, but I recognize their talents and -as stupid as it may sound- since they are performing together I can also appreciate the other two. (I like them too, but in smaller doses....)Some people have commented on their problems with mastering the english language. If anything, I think it just adds to their charm. By the way, who is perfect??
The songs on this cd is a mixture of beautiful songs, heartwrenching songs, toe-tapping songs and powerful songs. It's wonderful to just listen to the beauty in the three voices. It's fun hearing Pavarotti pushing his "high-note-button" in "O sole mio" and Carreras and Domingo copying his stunt. I have no idea what they're singing about in "Manha de Carnaval", but boy does it sound romantic...... And "Dicitencello vuie" brings tears to my eyes (even if I'm still left in the dark when it comes to understanding the meaning of the words...) In "Because" Carreras takes my breath away when singing "because God made thee mine, I'll cherish thee...through light and darkness, through all time to be, and pray his love may make our love divine...." (What woman wouldn't like to hear those words..??!?) Their rendition of "You'll never walk alone" should satisfy some of the soccer-fans since it's the anthem of a European football-club and "Nessun Dorma" will probably satisfy the rest of the soccer-fans, being the antheme of the 1998 world soccer championship. In short, there should be something for every taste on this cd.
It's a very "versatile" cd. You can play it almost everywhere. You can sing along to it in the car, you can dance around the house to it while doing your chores, you can put your feet up and unwind after a hectic week. Or you can write an Amazon review while listening to it.... (Feel free to add suggestions of your own here.....)
To make a long story short - a very enjoyable cd!
Just Like the Real Thing!.......2005-07-14
A few years ago I was lucky enough to actually see a Three Tenors concert. The experience was amazing. Later I bought this CD. I was so happy when I listened to it because the CD captures the mood of being present at the concert. I like the variety and every time I play it, I am taken back to my personal experience at the concert. Hearing the audiences on the CD really gets you excited about hearing this amazing trio.
Powerful and moving!.......2004-10-21
I got this CD as a gift and it changed my life! I was always a rocker and liked classical music, but never was much into this genre of music. This album changed all of that. Since getting the three tenors I've found a whole new world out there. Thank you guys!

Hanson's Masterpiece.......2007-07-16
The Walk is Hanson's masterpiece. Not since Radiohead's OK Computer has an album been such an experience from beginning to end. From the opening guitar riff and rush of piano on "The Great Divide" to the closing gorgeous title song, "The Walk," Hanson has weaved together an album that mixes rock, pop and gospel sounds in a body of work that tells a story. The brothers shine with their song writing on their heartbreaking first single, "Go," and the haunting lyrics on "Fire on the Mountain" and "Your Illusion."
The band's signature catchy hooks are prominent on their latest CD, most notably on the rock anthem "Tearing It Down" and "Blue Sky." Including Hanson's last two albums, This Time Around and Underneath, there is now absolutely no other contemporary band that possesses a song book with such consistent catchy hooks. They have elevated it to an art form and these talented brothers deserve to be heard, especially on the extraordinary achievement that is The Walk.
Never Would Have Thought.......2007-07-12
I didn't get the import cd. I bought the actual album while in the UK... So, this is my review minus the Import bonus tracks...
"I've got this something thats been going round, you don't know it, but you need it now" I've said this about a few other tracks, but when you listen to this album in it's entirety you either get the underlying message 'cause you know it or "you don't know it, but you need it"...
As a matter of fact, you won't notice it unless you have a background in the chruch and to take it a step further - a deep background in Biblical passages. They don't come out and say anything or try to convert anyone, they're just writing about life, a life that everyone knows and lives. Does this take away from the album? Not at all, secular and non-secular alike are going to love this album...
If you like this album you might want to check out Jonny Lang's "Turn Around"... very upbeat, great vocals, and of course the guitar prodigy doesn't disappoint.
Best yet from Hanson.......2007-07-10
Without a doubt this is the most amazing album recorded by this very talented group. Lots to think about in their lyrics and great vocals as always. Give this a listen. You won't be disappointed!
Hanson "The Walk".......2007-06-28
The group Hanson's new album release "The Walk" works "in spades" as it spawns a flash-back - flash-forward style of music, lyrics and presentation that proves to be an existential combination of the best of creativity and multiplicity of worlds and multiple feelings. Their music makes sense. That ini itself is rare and unique! It is real yet edgy. Their music has meaning. And their music brings home a solid rock sense coupled with actual meaningful and identifiable, yep folks "identifiable", lyrics that allows you to be taken along with them on a ride through the minds and senses of their songs. The neat thing is that anyone, young or old who likes sound, hard-hitting, ground biting - good old rock and roll music will appreciate this straight forward presentation. Their music simply and honestly plays well...... extraordinarily well...... to a huge and ever-expanding spread of music aficionados'!
Being creative is generally normal, to a great degree, however, being entertaining doesn't make an artist or group special; it makes them more human and more approachable. Hanson absolutely has this "human attribute" .........which is a singularly intrinsic exception in the music industry among artists. That is the artistic exception that makes them great across the board! They are safe and comfortable within their musical and entertainment skins. They understand the elements of their creative and artistic environment, and they can, and do, cross the transom of "style" and entertain a broad spectrum of serious as well as occasional listeners.
"Watch Over Me" presents a true, clean and slow, edgy rock beat that locks in a crystal clear tune; a tune that makes the entire bod take note...and then picks up the rock beat which serves to elevate the intended person of the selection out of their illusion!. The words are a finely honed parlay of meaning that flow with a sense of being and understanding. The refrain begins low, in a reticent rock style then crescendos into a heightened harder core rock rendition. One hears driving guitar licks interspersed with acoustic licks that act as the piercing sword of the ultimate beat.
"Been There Before" presents a naturally rhythmic and upbeat selection combining a "new feel" to the music presentation. It blends the essence of an old time straight rock & roll with a definite hint of today's blended rock making it highly relevant and organically quite pleasant.
"Your Illusion" is quite appealing and unique. The words can have dual meanings and can be attributed to many of today's issues, sociological prescripts, and life-sized feelings of love and life depending on the age of the listener, which of course makes it a great multi-level selection for none other than a multiplicity of ages.....again!
"Running Man" presents a great paradox of old time "rock and soul" and the more current rock stylings of today with one of its definite strengths being the great layers of harmony. Secondary strength is solidly represented by the instrumental clarity and carefully laid down stratum of attitude.
Hanson is "really" here to stay. They are clean, crisp, talented, and just plain enjoyable while embracing the combined attributes of producing music, relaying true meaning, and delivering wide-eyed lyrics of which each selection is stellar and superiorly listenable and enjoyable!!!

Thought provoking lyrics, beautifully stirring harmonies, catchy musical riffs.......2007-06-28
Some things that you need to know firsthand about this album before you judge it: It was written, arranged, produced and performed by Hanson live in the two recording studios in Oklahoma that they designed themselves. The African chanting and singing was recorded by Hanson with children from D.D. Dliwayo School in Soweto South Africa. All the proceeds from the download of Great Divide will go to the HIV Aids unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. Hanson also started their own record label, 3CG Records, and employ an administrative staff in 3CG's New York office.
On this album you will be stirred by some very thought provoking lyrics, beautifully arranged harmonies, and be surprised to hear some exceptionally catchy musical riffs that pop into your head suddenly and stick in your head.
At times, I do think a couple of the songs can be a bit muddy or straining but the album as a whole is really very catchy.
Watch the podcast on Youtube called Taking The Walk so you can get a visual for this album. You will appreciate the whole concept of The Walk so much more by getting to see Hanson in their studios and in Africa writing and recording the music.

Another Best Of .......2007-06-20
For some artists it is relatively easy to list a best of collection but not so The Ventures. Don't get me wrong this is an excellent album and is well worth a look but I am not sure it is a better "best of" than a few of their other "best of" albums.
Walk--Don't Run: The Best of the Ventures.......2007-05-20
The new versions of the songs not as good as the Original ones
The VENTURES, what can I say?!?!?!.......2006-12-16
The best instrumental band of all time! They've gotta be! And they're still around! Well, what's cool about them is that on these recordings, their drummer, Mel Taylor, has just made it in my Top 5 drummers of all times! Well, after he died, his son took over the drummer duties for the Ventures!
This collection is basically songs from the 60's that made the Ventures what they are, THE BEST at what they do!
This is probably the best collection of their songs that you can get. It's set at a great price as well!
Thru the Past Looking for the Sounds of Future .......2006-07-19
Long, long years ago I listened this beautiful sounds.
It's very nice to can meet the future thru the magic of past!!!
Not Bad, But Doesn't Seem To Age Well.......2006-06-21
I am being generous with 4 stars. It seems to me that the music sounds dated and doesn't age well. Not particularly interesting with so much other instrumental music to choose from. Also, the curse of any "best of" album is that there is always going to be something missing that someone thinks should be on there. Wasn't Pipeline a big, big Ventures hit? Also Telstar was quite popular too. Those are the only two Ventures songs that I recall getting consistent radio play, but perhaps I just missed hearing a lot of the other songs. Still, the album seems incomplete without Pipeline. Some of the songs are more interesting and innovative than others, which is why this probably deserves 4 stars.

For more than 30 years, South Africa's Ladysmith Black Mambazo has infused its township sound of Isicathamiya with rich gospel harmonies. LBM's unique sound was brought to American audiences thanks to Paul Simon's landmark Graceland, and the group has toured and recorded tirelessly since. Long Walk To Freedom is a new retrospective in which the group rerecords new versions of songs from throughout its career with help from such guests as Emmylou Harris, Sarah McLachlan, Taj Mahal, and Zap Mama as well as several popular countrymen. As with the Simon album, the North American guests' voices fit hand-in-glove with the group's warm harmonies. Highlights include "Nomathemba," which was the band's first hit in 1973, the popular "Hello My Baby," and the Graceland tunes "Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes" and "Homeless." Though ostensibly a career retrospective, this new recording actually proves that Ladysmith Black Mambazo has never sounded better. --Tad Hendrickson

Long Walk to Freedom.......2007-01-10
Ever since their emergence on Paul Simon's Graceland, the unique harmonies and rhythms have kept me enthtralled. The notable thing about this CD is how their famous guests adapt to their sound, choice of material, and blend is solid. Some collaborations work better than others. Mellissa Ethridge and Natalie Merchant are two standouts. This a worthwhile introduction this group.
wow.......2006-11-06
If you like A capella work this is a great addition to your collection.
byrd52.......2006-08-21
Never appreciated in the Paul Simon days, think he exploited the novelty of their sound (OK, not a Simon fan). Incedible harmonies, and teh guest stars like Melissa blend in beautifully.
celestial.......2006-04-07
what can I say? this is as good as it gets for African vocal harmonies (i spent 1974-1977 in the Central African Republic.)
i really should say the best vocal harmony anywhere
i could talk about each song with the wonderful stars who are featured
i'll just say that Natalie is sublime in rain
she's as amazing as they are!!!
Long Walk to Freedom.......2006-03-12
