First CD is Good but the Second CD is Decent.......2006-03-21

I recently got turned on to this enhanced Ministry of Sound collection and felt that, overall, it was alright. As someone that has many trance CD's I felt the first CD was a high quality mix. There were some songs that I have heard before, but that is pretty common these days. Overall the mix definitely lived up to the name "harder". I was very impressed with the song selection and mix that Judge Jules laid out with the first CD.

As for the second CD, there was not much going on there. I felt the second CD was not mixed well and the songs, overall did not seem to flow or match with the "harder" title.

I would buy the set just for CD 1.

What can I say...it was pretty good overall. My only problem is that some of the tracks were way to short. Could of made them longer!

Now, I know it came out in the latter half of 2003, but it featrures a tear forming remix by Michael Woods of Lost Tribe's, Gamemaster and some new trance tunes. If you want the original of Gamemaster for comparison, see Gatecrasher Wet. As I tend to go for something with meaningful and emotional vocals/samples, personal favourites include, 3rd Earth by Solarstone and Scott Bond, Prayer for a God-Darren Tate, Voice of an Angel-Matt Darey and Marcella Woods, Forever and a Day-State One (Michael Woods remix)

Whether the compilation be harder, that is debatable. Hard to me is hard trance, which is not the same as what I think Judge Jules has tried to do here. There is everything from uplifting spiritual and vocal smooth trance, to your rinsey dirty, deep and dark trance, strongly remsembling some of the sounds that current breaks have as it can also have a dark trance anticlimax and climax strongly borrowing from drum and bass. Here I am mainly talking about the synths and the darker sound they seem to have, which without actually being the same speed as hard trance, does make us feel like it is faster than what it really is.

I have been following trance for years and considering I did not listen to this cd before I purchased it, I think it is alright. There are better cds on the market right now, but I am glad to hear a sound that differs for me, from traditional trance. I am an advocate of progression and new sound in all genres of dance.

I was expecting this cd to be much harder then it was.
I was a bit disapointed since I really did'nt hear a huge differance in most trance cds I get.
Granted, Judge Jules did throw down a few gritty hard bass trance tunes. I was thinking this would be more of a blutomium/nukleuz kinda hard trance cd. There was'nt any cheesy cookie cutter tracks, but there were a few tracks that I thought I would hear more on like a regular trance nation cd. Like; "voice of an angel", "show me a sign".. Which i really enjoyed, but with the black background, with the fence, and broad lettering TRANCE NATION HARDER it just seems that there would be some a more consistant gutt busting kinda trance on the cds.
Overall its a pretty good buy.
