Throw a Party!!!!.......2005-11-02
If you want the excitement and dancing to start, throw in this album. I must say, everytime I throw a party, this album is THE FAVORITE!! You won't go wrong with the Classic Funk sounds of Classic Funk artists. Trust me, you'll think if this album everytime you want to GET DOWN!!!
This CD Changed My Life!!!.......2005-06-08
I vividly remember walking into Circuit City six years ago and picking up this CD out of morbid curiosity. At the time, I was fifteen years old, and had spent most of my life listening to mainstream oldies radio. I had been exposed to copious amounts of Motown, which I love passionately to this very day, but other than the polished arrangements of Motown and Northern Soul, I had never really been introduced to black popular music from this era.
When I got home that day and flipped this disc, my life was changed forever. The thumping bass, screeching brass, and thundering drums woke me up to a musical style that was wholly different from anything I had ever experienced. The Ohio Players, Parliament Funkadellic, Roger & Zapp, etc. raised the bar for what could be done with a live band and a groovy hook. If you want to know what musical pioneers were directly responsible for hip-hop and rap (a musical genre that I've only recently come to respect and appreciate), look no further than this fabulous compilation.
I would recommend this CD for anybody who ever believed that nothing musically worthwhile originated in the 1970's, or for those who may be put off by inevitable comparisons between funk and disco. The bands on this disc pack such a wallop that their role in the history of popular music is as unquestionable as it was pivotal in the transition from traditional R&B to hip-hop and G-funk. And, speaking personally, this is definitely one of my top ten "Desert Island Disc" picks. I can't imagine a more wonderful way to spend the rest of my life than on a secluded tropical paradise, blaring George Clinton from a good strong sub-woofer.
Bring on the funk.......2002-12-20
Every song on this CD had me singing along with the songs that I remember from so long ago. This is one of the best various artist CDs on the market. Every last one of these songs is vintage funk. There is no filler on this CD, its all great music that will have toes tapping, feet stomping and butts shaking.
Source of many a rap rip-off or sample.......2000-07-10
This CD is definitely one of the best party and driving CDs in my collection. It's kinda like going back in time and finding a long-lost soul station somewhere down south. Every track here is a classic - it's fun to play this CD for someone who just heard a great 'original' rap song and play the funk song it was swiped from! The music here shows lack of originality in some of today's R&B; it also shows the creativity of many of the 70's and 80's funksters, even if some of them only had a couple of hits. This CD is guaranteed to liven up your next party or get together - so much better than many of the tired, safe as skim milk, moldy oldies compilations found at too many baby boomer parties today.
CLASSIC MUSIC.......2000-04-20
Nowadays When You See what's out now you can't imagine Listening to Most Of The Stuff that's Out Now in 20 years.but Here is Music that you can Groove To for the Next Many,Many,Many Years&it will never Lose it's Groove.it is a Fantastic VOyage had by all that Bop on this.

80's classics.......2007-06-15
You can either download a pile of titles from 80's progressive rock from the internet or you can just buy this disc and get a lot of fun classics from this era. It's got a lot of the titles you want.
Rhino Stumbles.......2006-05-05
I really expected more. Rhino, the author of the Stiff Records and 'Left of the Dial' box sets and the 'Just Can't Get Enough' series assembled this tired set of eighties new wave? Wow.
A third of this CD has been anthologized to death. Toni Basil? Men Without Hats? A-Ha? Modern English? Thomas Dolby? Dexy's Midnight Runners? Again??? Where's Nena and "99 Luftballoons"?
I could name six more interesting choices in my sleep: Pete Shelley. Freur. Lene Lovich. Heaven 17. Fun Boy Three. Blancmange.
Gary Numan, Haircut 100 and Frank & Moon Zappa lend a breath of fresh air, and Rhino does their usual stellar job of remastering, but it's not enough.
This is for the person who: A. is an extremely casual music fan (i.e. buys a CD about every other year), or B. is too young to have been around when these songs were all over the airwaves.
Otherwise, you likely have the better stuff on this CD elsewhere, and who needs to hear "Mickey" ever again? (And I mean EVER again.) If you fit one of the two profiles listed above, you'll be completely content. If you don't--save your money.
Rhino Remastering Makes These Hits Sound AMAZING!.......2004-02-11
Thumbs up to Rhino Records for actually putting out good music on their compilations! I'm not just referring to the music included but also the sound quality. I was blown away when I stumbled upon another "Millennium" release by Rhino. The sound quality is amazing. So I was inspired to buy 3 (!) more of their "Millennium" compilations. According to their website, they look for the best available original master tapes and use the best state-of-the-art equipment for remastering these songs, referring to the "remastered in rhinophonic authentic sound" logos on the releases. Most labels don't even remaster the material! I'm really big on sound quality and I've never heard any of these songs on this collection (or any of their other "Millennium" releases) sound so crisp, bright, and clear! Take for example, "Sweet Dreams" or "Whip It," recorded in 1983 and 1980, respectively. The bass stands out like any song released today. A must-have just for the quality!
Besides the sound quality, the tracklisting is one of the best I've seen for an 80's collection (despite not all songs being "New Wave"). Another plus is the liner notes with the Billboard Hot 100 chart peaks and year of release.
If you say so........2003-06-25
Just because this music was released during the New Wave era, doesn't mean it's new wave music. Maybe the Eurythmics, Madness, The Thompson Twins, and some of the bands with one hit wonders such as Thomas Dolby or Modern English could be considered New Wave; but Tony Basil? Wang Chung? Bow Wow Wow?! that's like saying all nazis were germans and all germans are nazis. Which isn't true. Not all 80's music is new wave! and those cheerleader pop songs are not new wave. It's like saying that Britney Spears' rendition of "I love Rock and Roll" is Rock and Roll music. New wave music has a meaning behind it. A lot of times it relates to what's going on in the world around (NOT U2!). Not, "oh mickey you're so fine," but, "people are people, so why should it be, you and I should get along so awfully?" Maybe you can sneak some punk in there: The Clash, any one that really told it how it was. But don't insult New Wave!!! Bring on the Depeche Mode (the early years-before '86, after Alan Wilder first began before they went Synth-Pop when they really had something to say), bring on the tears for fears, and even some of the Talk Talk!
Fabulous Collection of 80s music!.......2003-06-07
I just got this CD from the library yesterday. And it's great. It has just about all my favorite songs. I think "I Ran" is the most popular song out of all of the songs. And the sound quality is great. It's like your right there in the studio. If you love 80s music, you've got to have this collection.

The hip-hop entry in Rhino's Millennium Party compilation series doesn't so much capture the sound of the year 2000 as it does that of 1989. In the wake of "Walk This Way," Top 40 radio realized that its listeners would accept the Fresh Prince's tales of teen mock-woe, Tone Loc's Coasters-derived rockers, and Young MC's, er, tales of teen mock-woe. Up to and including Snoop's "What's My Name?" (the CD's newest cut, from '93), this excellent PG-rated set makes nearly flawless choices. Biggest exception: "Tennessee" by Arrested Development, whose leader Speech's nonstop self-righteous mumbling will drive everyone into the next room. --Rickey Wright

GREAT OLD SKOOL CD.......2007-05-10
MY BOYFRIEND AND I LOVE THIS CD. IT BRINGS BACK MANY CHILDHOOD MEMORIES. THIS WAS WHEN RAP/HIP HOP WAS TOLERABLE. NOW ITS HORRIBLE. THIS CD IS EVERYTHING FROM MARKY MARK AND THE FUNKY BUNCH TO DR DRE. SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY. YOU SHOULD GET THIS CD YOULL LOVE IT!!!!!!
The only CD you'll ever need.......2006-10-07
This CD gets the party started and the party don't stop til you turn it off! It's (almost) more fun than Erich's mom putting on chaps after a few shots of tequila.
MHHP is the best CD ever compiled, and that is not an exaggeration.
Buy it. Cherish it. Love it. Share it.
Soundtrack to the glory days of rap and hip-hop!.......2006-02-25
I had been notorious at high school for scathing hostility towards current-day hip hop and rap of the late 1990s to the present but I never denied how much I loved the earlier years of this formerly wonderful and fun genre of music.
These 18 tracks while varying in enjoyable for me, showcase what I think were and remain staples of the glory years of hip-hop and that once, this now disgusting genre was at one time a genre of fun, dance and even witty.
The best songs for me are "Hip Hop Hooray", a popular basketball theme during games I played at a private school I attended in childhood, "Good Vibrations" arguably my favorite hip-hop classic of all time despite it's cheese factor rearing it's head, "Around The Way Girl" by LL Cool, and even "U Can't Touch This", all of which were anthems for my early childhood during their charting days. I enjoy the rest of the songs as well.
Even parents who despise or are concerned by questionable content in current day rap music would make a good move by buying this collection.
Bust it........2005-11-22
Much like the "Millennium Dance Party" disc, but not dance, this is simply full of great hip-hop, from what I would call the fun days of rap. I think anybody could come up with another disc of tracks that belong here, but still good stuff. I honestly dig it all, but favorites would be from Grandmaster Flash, Tone Loc, Young MC, and PM Dawn. Plus the biggest hits from Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre for some g-funk. I also went through a decent House Of Pain phase, so glad that's here. In short, if you're anywhere near 30 and need just one disc of old rap, this collection is the bomb!
Cool as heck!.......2005-04-11
If you're a fan of these tunes from the 90s, you'll love this disc. Yes, they omit a couple (Wild Thing by Tone Loc, Gonna Make Ya Sweat by CNC Music Factory), and they have a couple that are not "real" hits in my mind -- Tennessee by Arrested Development? Why did they put this song on here? Of course, though, that's personal preference. Overall, great mix.

THIS SUCKS!!.......2006-08-01
You're led to believe that these are the full-length hits when you play them, but DONT BE FOOLED!! They are chopped up shortened versions of the original hits!! FAME by David Bowie has about 2 min taken out, and the great guitar riff at the end of the Lynard Skynard "Freebird" tune is chopped off at the end . .A RIP OFF!!!
classic rock.......2006-03-18
I enjoyed the CD. Was dissapointed that the Hocus Pocus song Focus was an edited version and not the full song. Other that that it was great!
Mr.personality.......2004-09-30
This is a very great cd. I love this cd it is my favorite cd of all time and it rocks. it has great songs on it like We will we will rock you and songs like it. This is they best cd in the world. it rocks out loud.
Would have been 5+ if..........2001-08-23
Listening through I thought that this has got to be the best classic rock compilation that I have ever heard. Just about every tune belongs except "Joy To the World", which seems a little out of place. Why only 4 stars? Because they shortened my favorite song, FREEBIRD. If you listen, you'll notice that they took out a good chunk out of the guitar solos at the end. They should have kept the length and cut out JOY TO THE WORLD. If so, it would have been 5+++++++.
Too Scattershot To Be Truly Representative.......2001-05-09
By calling this a "Classic Rock Party" one must interpret "rock" rather loosely. This collection includes pop ("Joy to the World"), folk-rock ("Sister Golden Hair"), and even a novelty song (the yodelling "Hocus Pocus") in addition to classic 70's rock--all of these songs were released between 1970 and 1978.
Rhino's other releases in their Millenium series usually focused on a specific genre. When you're doing a hip-hop, funk or doo wop collection, you can do an adequate job even though you may be covering a decade of music. When your category is as broad as classic rock (whatever that means), your song selection doesn't hold together very well.
These were all popular songs and all of them reached the Top 40, except "Aqualung," which was never released as a single. And why wasn't "Eighteen" or "School's Out" used in place of Alice Cooper's "No More Mr. Nice Guy"? As for some of the other song selections, Rhino appears to have simply decided to save some money on licensing fees by recycling songs from its Top Rock Hits series.
Overall, this is a very listenable collection with terrific sound and informative liner notes. But unless you specifically looking for some of these songs, why not simply tune in to your local classic rock radio station?

High Quality FUNK -- pure party music.......2005-09-17
Coming on the heels of the original Millennium FUNK Party, NEW Millennium Funk Party is just as strong. This collection is a 70s/80s DJs dream of high quality, danceable 70s funk that has few weak points. All of these tracks are digitally remastered, and sound studio clean. My personal favorites from this CD are Fire (Ohio Players), For The Love Of Money (O'Jays), Supeprfreak (Rick James) and the cherry on my funky sundae, Bustin' Loose (Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers). There are a couple tracks that are not what this DJ would call "funk", but still high quality R&B tracks nonetheless. These would be Lady Marmalade (LaBelle) and Respect Yourself (Staple Singers) OK, so someone ran a few tracks shy of a funk CD, at least they filled with some GREAT R&B numbers. This CD is great dance music for us children of the 70s and 80s. It is also playable as "old school" I highly recommend this CD if you like your soulful music sung and not rapped, or if you want to hear some top rate percussion, brilliant horn sections, tight harmony and infectious basslines -- in a word, musicianship. I would also recommend this CD for those who wonder where those cool samples came from in their modern hip hop songs. I would not recommend this CD if you want a smooth, slow, mellow R&B sound.... this music is upbeat and lively from start to finish.
A few unfamiliars.......2005-07-21
I really am enjoying this CD. However, there are a few titles that I am not familiar with but thought I'd give it a try. I wish I had gone with my gut and ordered the CD "Pure Funk" instead. It has a lot of the same songs as the New Millenium Funk Party but more classics. This is definately a good CD though.

Hold Up One More Time!.......2004-05-17
Once again, where are the ladies on this album? This is a great release but they missed a lot of songs. How can you say this is a jam release when you forgot Domino's Ghetto Jam?, Today Was a Good Day by Ice Cube, My Mind's Playing Tricks on Me by Getto Boys, Call Me On the Under- D-Shot, Regulate- Warren G., Get Jiggy Wit It- Will Smith, Hurricane-The Click, Gin and Juice- Snoop. My Type of Hype- Full Force. Anything by Public Enemy, Eric B. and Rakim and P.Diddy. Come on! THESE WERE MAJOR HITS COMPLETELY MISSED! Whoever put this album together should have paid more attention because they missed a load of hits. And once again, forgot about the females. Why must the females always be ignored?
An adult guide to old school.......2000-10-14
Twenty years after "Rapper's Delight", there are still a significant number of adults who do not feel that hip-hop is a legitimate musical form. The arguements are varied: "It all sounds the same", "It's just disgusting", "It has nothing to say", and my personal favorite "It's not REAL music."
I seem to recall exactly the same arguments were raised about Rock 'n' Roll in the Fifties.
To those who still espouse such views, I offer as contrary evidence, this fine compendium of some of the best Hip Hop of the last two decades. I'd recommend it over the first volume, and how rarely does a sequel surpass the original?, as it drops the novelty factor in so many early rap hits and concentrates on songs that truly hold up over time.
Three tracks truly stand out. Grandmaster Flash's "The Message" is an elegant angry poem, closer to literature than to pop. Ignored in its day, it deserves it's place in Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Singles of All Time. Those of you who do not recognize the title may be familiar with the chorus: "It's like a jungle sometimes. It makes me wonder how I keep from going under." Every American schoolchild should be required to recite the entire text of the song, as a fable, a parable, a history and a lesson.
Based on Stevie Wonder's "Pastime Paradise" track from the brilliant Songs in the Key of Life album, Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" covers similar ground. It was the #1 song of the year.
The jazz/hip-hop fusion of Arrested Development should be enough to convert any remaining non-believer.
Volume 2 of the Greatest songs.......2000-08-20
Just when I thought Millennium Hip-Hop Party couldn't be topped this comes along and proved me wrong. If you have the Millenium Hip-Hop Party you owe it to yorself to buy this. If you are into hip-hop you must buy. You can't go wrong with this CD.
Millennium Hip Hop Makes There Best Mix.......2000-08-18
Every old school song on this cd is good. The Best song on this mix is by far "Ditty" by Paperboy. The song "OPP" brings alot color to the cd. I like how they put some 95 rap songs on the cd like "Gangstas Paradise" by Coolio. This CD also puts some more well known rappers in it Like Notorious BIG, MC Hammer, A Tribe Called Quest, Shaq, Naughty By Nature, Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, and The Fresh Prince and alot of other great artist. I think that some of the songs are so-so like "Informer" by Snow, "You Be Illin" By Run DMC, and those in my opinion are Average songs. I think that it was good to put "Wild thing" on this cd cause it has a gutair beat in it so you dont get bored with the sounds of the beats and "People Everyday" is finally on a Hip Hop cd which is a great song. "Back To the Hotel" By N2Deep brings a hard bass into this cd. If You dont got this mix i think yall shoud buy it.

Good collection, although the title is a bit misplaced........2003-03-06
As with the New Wave and Classic Rock albums, the titles are a bit off compared to the content of the disc. They seem to have a tendency to shove in popular tunes whether they fit in or not. On the plus side, the songs are all great, and the sound quality isn't too shabby either.
All the songs are feel-good, there's a nice variety in the songs selected (nothing repetitive), and Rhino was fairly generous with the tracks. The disc totals 51 minutes 20 seconds. I could have done with a few more songs, though. If you want some of the tracks on this collection, but don't want to have to buy the individual albums, this is probably one of the best compilation discs to get. It would serve as a good introduction to '60's rock, since it does have a paragraph written on each featured artist, and a listing of where each song topped on the Billboard charts.
Excellent Song Selection.......2001-05-09
For me, Sixties rock began in 1964 with the British invasion. As such, Jimmy Soul's semi-novelty "If You Wanna Be Happy" and Little Eva's girl group smash "The Loco-Motion"--though a terrific song--doesn't really fit. And the Isley Brothers' "Shout-Part 1" was released in 1959! [It would have made more sense to include Joe Dee and the Starlighters' cover version which went Top 10 in 1961.]
With that said, this is a terrific collection of some of the best songs of the mid-Sixties. Nearly half of these songs--tracks 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 14, 16, 17 and 19--made music critic Dave Marsh's book "The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made." [P.S. - "Nancy Sinatra's "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'" is the final track on this 20-song collection.]
While many of these tracks have been recycled ad nauseum for decades on various anthologies, Rhino does a nice job of packaging them with an informative--if somewhat brief--set of liner notes and as always uses excellent source tapes throughout. My only complaint is that a single disc is too brief. This could easily have been a double-disc set without any drop off in quality or even made into a series like Rhino's earlier Top Rock Hits or Have a Nice Day series. But two years after this disc's original release, that doesn't seem likely. So if these songs are missing from your collection, this is a cost effective way to remedy that. RECOMMENDED
Groovy, baby!.......2000-01-08
I think this is a very groovy, well-blended '60s CD. My favorites on this CD are "These Boots Are Made For Walking", "If You Wanna Be Happy", "You Really Got Me", and "O Pretty Woman", but I love every other track except two. I don't like "Happy Together" and "I Only Want To Be With You". I'm only a teenager, but I'm really into '60s music, so I highly recommend this CD. If you really love the '60s sound, I would also recommend Smash Mouth's "Astro Lounge" to you.

Millennium Blues Party brings the party to life.......2001-02-12
Whether you are a seasoned veteran or a new blues lover, this CD brings your listening pleasure to new peaks. This collection of nearly 80 minutes of blues tunes effectively brings together some of today's stars (Clapton, Cray) with past blues legends (Waters, Hooker).
If you're looking for some mood background music or some tunes to be a hit of the party...you need not look any further because Millennium Blues Party is your answer. Fact is...I'm not sure you can find a better mix of blues artists elsewhere!

Amazon.com Review
The Melnor eight-way turret sprinkler is a great design for irregularly shaped, small- to medium-size lawn and garden spaces. This classic sprinkler is easy to operate and offers a choice of eight different spray settings to efficiently water nearly any space. Of course, for the youngsters, the most enticing features of this sprinkler are its low profile and all-plastic construction with no sharp edges, which makes it a safe sprinkler for running through to cool off on those hot summer days.

Could Have Been Named "Millennium 60's Soul AND Rock".......2004-03-16
All of this CDs songs got extensive airplay in the 1960s on not only Soul but also Rock stations. And I agree with prior Reviewers that the songs themselves are excellent.
I also own the CD in this series named "Millenium 60's Rock."
A Soul party.......2000-09-18
if you want Real Soul Music from The Orginal Founders this is it.you are not gonna hear Genius like this on Modern R&B.this is Classic Material that Covers So Many great Talents&how unlike TOday Everybody Here had their Own Idenity.all The Regions are Covered Here.this is Fantastic Musicianship&Talents.Motown,Staxx,&Other Areas are all Covered Here.this set Truly Feels Good.Where has The Music GOne?
Let's Hope There's a Volume II.......2000-07-27
When I first heard about this collection on TV, my first thought was, "Oh great, another knock-off compilation to cash in the the millenium hype!" Then the announcer mentioned it was from Rhino Records. Rhino has long been the preeminent reissue label in this country and they don't disappoint with this 55-minute soul music extravaganza.
From 1963's classic "Green Onions" by Booker T. & The M.G.'s to 1968's "Slip Away" by Clarence Carter, you are treated to some of soul music's high-water marks of the era. Seven of these singles sold more than a million copies apiece, and all but two of them went Top Ten. [The lone exceptions are Wilson Pickett's essential "In the Midnight Hour" and Brenton Wood's "Oogum Boogum Song." In the case of the latter, I would have rather seen his "Gimme Little Sign" which was his biggest hit--#9 in 1967, but that's a minor complaint against an otherwise flawless choice of songs.]
This is quite simply the best single-disc soul anthology on the market. Where else can you get so many terrific songs at this price? It's just one classic after another: "Sweet Soul Music," "Respect," "Soul Man," "(Sittin' On the) Dock of the Bay," "When a Man Loves a Woman"--if this were any better, it would be illegal.
The only problem is that with so many great songs available, you're left wanting more. In the Eighties, Rhino released an amazing anthology series of Sixties soul music called "Soul Shots" (now out of print). Let's hope "Millennium Soul Party" is only volume 1 of many, many more to come. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Sweet Soul Music.......2000-07-14
This is top knotch soul-lifting music - from the "Sweet Soul Music" of Arthur Conley (an homage to the Kings and Queens of Soul) to James Brown's enthusiastic anthem, "I Got You (I Feel Good)." This is the perfect intro to soul music classics and great for anyone starting a collection. Personal fave's include: The sweet "Oogum Boogum Song", "Green Onions" by Booker T. & The M.G.'s and the wonderful "You've Really Got A Hold On Me". A must for "Big Chill" fans.
