the original phsychedelic sounds of the time . pre the dead . rocky erickson screams and the jug rocks. you must hear it!

3 out of 5 stars Glimpses of a great album but sound quality is terrible.......2006-10-26

As a fan of psychadelic music I was repeatedly told I had to get this cd. Listening to it you can get a sense of why this album gets this hype but frankly the sound quality is so poor you really have to make an effor to try to appreciate it. Again there are glimpes of great garage/psychadelia and the use of the jug is cool and different.

I would not buy it until someone actually makes an effort to put forward a version that sounds good. Even if the original tapes are terrible I find it hard to believe that they could not have done more with this. This is possibly a five star album but I can't tell for sure due to the sound.

2 out of 5 stars Greatest psych album ever?.......2006-04-26

I'm afraid not. I hate to be a dissenter, but "Psychedelic Sounds" is quite simply run-of-the-mill 60s garage rock. Some of the tracks are noteworthy (You're Gonna Miss Me), others, however, are unlistenable. How much the sound quality (which is horrible) plays into this is hard to determine.

5 out of 5 stars Five stars for the music not the recording.......2005-08-08

I had the pleasure to grow up in the years when the Elevators performed and lived just down the street from Andrus Studios where Easter Everywhere was recorded.

There is a tribute band in Austin called The Tommy Hall Schedule that does a superb tribute to the Elevators music with state of the art recording quality. I would recommend any Elevators fan getting their cd at their website, www.tommyhallschedule.com. Don't judge the cd quality by the live downloads at their site, though.

5 out of 5 stars to go chilling on the sofa..........2007-07-05

it's not a surprise, either nothing new, Anthony Stewart Head - aka Mr. Giles in Buffy the vampire slayer or the primer minister in Little Britain- has a charming and very soft voice, that kind of voice that you never get tired oflistening to and makes you feel at home.
That's the reason you can fee like if you were in a very cosy coffee place, sitting on a sofa and having a nice cup of coffee and listening on the background this nice and beautiful songs. Track # 2 is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent, with caveats........2007-06-27

Like pretty much everyone else, I bought this for the vocals of Anthony Stewart Head, and I'm not disappointed. This, however, might have something to do with the fact that I came of age in the 80s, and the arrangement of the synthesizers didn't cross my eyes. It reminded me of many of my favorites from the 80s (Nik Kershaw, Howard Jones, Bowie - albeit a more velvety Bowie, so don't get all crazed when I say that, Camouflage - this should give you an idea of how synth-intensive the album is. You get the sense that they had a pretty good mixing board, a couple of high-end synths, some good microphones, and great strings (guitar, violin, bass cello) to work with. Nothing wrong with that - though I do wonder if the album wouldn't have been more successful if they'd ditched the synth-pop elements and used a piano or two and session drummer instead of the sometimes extremely cheesy synthesizer stuff. The synth stuff is at its best when it stands for a piano anyway. But seriously: some of the drum tracks I swear to goshen I recognize from my first hand-held Casio synthesizer. I swear. The drum tracks and occasionally bizarre use of 1950s girlband style do-wop backup singers is downright awful in places (it very nearly ruins The Last Time and One Man's Rain, both of which could have been deeply amazing done just to piano, Tori style). The engineering is very good, though - and some of the arrangements are downright amazing (This Town In the Rain and We Can Work It Out immediately come to mind). Just be prepared for the synths. Which will DEFINITELY come as a surprise to people who were hoping for Giles-folk-rock, and probably anyone born after 1990, give or take 5 years. I seriously would have paid another $20 to have a full cover of Freebird by Head. For reals. I'm crazed for his voice, which I think sounds pretty much like Nick Drake would have sounded if he'd grown older and wiser instead of tragically topping himself. I do recommend the album - and I live in the probably futile hope that Head will release another album at some point which lets the vocals lead. It's a shame to drown such a gorgeous voice in all the sauce that got ladled over this album.

5 out of 5 stars The sexiest voice I've ever heard........2007-05-25

Who would have kown that Anthony Steward Head was not only a great singer, but also such a good compositor and lyrics writter! All the songs of this album are just incredibily well-worked and achieved. The style of the album goes from the pop music by way of dance music and massive-attack-like sound.Just amasing! Even the lyrics are really excellent. Moreover, Anthony has the sexiest voice I've ever heard when he sings "Qu'est-ce que j'ai fait?".
This album is just a pearl I advice you with enthusiasm to buy.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Collector's Set (40 discs)

1 out of 5 stars Hate to say it but.. Disappointing CD.......2007-03-30

I am a HUGE Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan and Anthony Stewart Head as Giles was one of my favorite characters. I flipped over his voice when he sang on several episodes and thought this cd would be amazing. I had it on my wish list for a long time and my husband finally surprised me with it for my birthday last year.

It took me four days to listen to it all the way through and I think I only listened to it the one time. Tony Head's voice is great BUT the music and background vocals are awful. The songs are not well written. Just blah. Listening to the cd I kept thinking if I could find a way to take the music and backup vocals and lower their volume WAY down so I could listen to Tony sing better. The songs might be better than I think but the bad music and backup vocals are so distracting I just can't tell.

1 out of 5 stars Not what I had expected.......2007-01-10

Terrible, nothing like you hear on The Buffy "Once more with Feeling" musical.

5 out of 5 stars Another log on the fire.......2006-10-10

These guys are great in a really cool understated way, without beating me over the head with their "unique" sound (see: the White Stripes). Without having to reinvent the wheel they make good rock music that doesn't sound like anybody else, not easy thing to do these days.

5 out of 5 stars Stellar.......2006-03-30

I too have a hard time finding anything about this band, in regards to reviews and whatnot. I stumbled upon them by chance, and I was hooked. The lead singer's voice is one of the greatest female vocals I've ever heard in a rock band (granted, a rather small set), and the songs are amazing. I would compare their rhythm section to Entwistle/Moon at times, and with that amazing voice of hers, this is a stellar old timey rock album. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Better than the White Stripes??.......2006-03-27

Lean and mean, good old rock and roll; Heartless Bastards may be compared to The White Strips...but without the hype and pretension. The lead singers vocals are unique, and real ! A truly tight power trio...no superfluous production values. Fat Possum is one of the great unsung lables.

1 out of 5 stars Description Mismatch.......2006-03-17

I love the 13th floor elevators but the descritpion specifies this is a 3 disc CD set when there actually only is one CD.

5 out of 5 stars Deluxe reissue of psych classic.......2005-09-06

The Elevators' catalog has had some rough treatment over the years. There are several CD versions of this album on the market, including a U.S. reissue from Collectables that's gotten bad marks for its fidelity, and several imports. This latest is from Snapper's Charly label out of the UK, and in addition to the album's original eleven tracks, it includes eight live tracks (all but two from an oft-issued Avalon Ballroom performance), and both sides of the pre-Elevators' single by The Spades.

The album tracks sound about as good as they're likely to get, given that the original master tapes were lost some time ago, and the bonuses, likewise sound similar to other issues. This is an excellent 70-minute package, fleshing out the classic original album with a host of live covers ("Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" "Before You Accuse Me" "I'm Gonna Love You Too" "You Really Got Me" "Roll Over Beethoven" "The Word" "Gloria"), one live original ("She Lives (In a Time of Her Own)"), and Roky Erickson's originals of "We Sell Soul" and "You're Gonna Miss Me."

Digipack reproductions of the original album art are sharp but small enough to be virtually unreadable. Luckily the enclosed booklet reproduces the album's back cover notes, and includes new liners from Jon "Mojo" Mills along with several period photos. 21 tracks on a single disc - a great buy! 5 out of 5 stars Best-value, most-complete Elevators compilation.......2006-08-21

Should you choose to take the 13th Floor Elevators "trip," hep cat, this is the full six sugar cubes. Three CDs include almost all of the band's recorded output: nearly 4 hours of music, with very good audio quality. The price works out to about two individually packaged CDs. Better value than most other Elevators compilations, which are typically one disc (~60 minutes/20 tracks of music), but cost almost a much.

You get the full contents of the Elevators' four official LPs: "Psychedelic Sounds of," "Easter Everywhere," the fake "Live" album (really studio outtakes with dubbed applause), and "Bull of the Woods." Plus two genuine live sets that have floated around for years as hard-to-find bootlegs: a 1966 performance from San Francisco, and a 1967 show from somewhere in Texas. Plus various bonus tracks/alternate takes by the Elevators, their precursors (the Spades), and their most prominent survivor (Roky Erickson).

If you already like the Elevators, then drop ~$27, turn on, and tune in. If you're just discovering the Elevators: think middle-period Jefferson Airplane (Roky sings a lot like Marty Balin), with more of the Texas blues groove that influenced Jorma Kaukonen. These guys were real Texans -- some hailing from Janis Joplin's hometown of Port Arthur.

2 out of 5 stars not as great as it should have been.......2003-11-20

The 13th Floor Elevators were one of America's greatest rock bands, and their first two albums, "psychedelic sounds" and "Easter everywhere" are both essential. So, I was understandably excited to come across this box set, but unfortunately it's not as good as the band deserves. One, the albums all have terrible sound quality. The set claims to be "remastered" and it does sound slightly better than what previously came out on Spalax, but it still basically sucks. I don't think anyone who isn't already an Elevators fan will be impressed by these recordings. I have read that the original masters have been lost, but there are still ways to improve the sound quality and make these albums shine. Anybody who loves the Elevators is anxious for the definitive CD reissues, but these fall way short. Two, there isn't the song "I don't ever want to come down" Considering every other Elevator song is included, one wonders why this was left out.I would much rather have had this song on the set then the edited single version of "Slip inside this house." Three, the four original albums are not represented in their original packaging; instead they come in lame "psychedelic" scribbling. The original liner notes to "Psychedelic Sounds" are perhaps just as important as the music itself, and it should have been reproduced. Finally, the 20 page booklet is satisfactory, but not the stellar piece of rock journalism it should have been. Hopefully one day a good box set of the elevators will come out. Until then, this is probably the best available, and that's a shame.

5 out of 5 stars All of the original records plus more!.......2003-04-01

This has the complete "Psychedelic Sounds of", "Easter Everywhere", "Live" and "Bull of the Woods" plus a ton of rarities and live tracks. All the Elevators you want/need without buying the first four albums and a bunch of bootlegs. Sound quality is very good (even the extra tracks).

Forget about San Francisco: The American capitol of psychedelic rock was Austin, Texas, and no band soared higher than Roky Erickson and the 13th Floor Elevators. In addition to acid-tinged garage rockers such as the crazed-love anthem, "You're Gonna Miss Me," the Elevators' debut included tracks such as "Reverberation (Doubt)," "Roller Coaster," and "Splash 1," which viscerally evoked the sounds of their titles while offering lyrics that provided a philosophical structure for the psychedelic experience. The lyrics were written by Tommy Hall, who also played amplified jug. 5 out of 5 stars Goin' Up!.......2007-07-23

'Frisco was cool and all, but anyone who knows anything knows that the true birthplace of psychedelia was Austin, Texas, home of the fab-tacular 13th Floor Elevators. In its prime, this band of inspired weirdos recorded some of the most superbly deranged rock 'n' roll of all time, cranking out song after song of mutant, LSD-charred garage rock. Released in 1966, the Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators is the group's debut, a collection of heroically whacked-out tunes that are nothing less than the budding seeds of a movement.

What's most surprising about this album (and the band, really) is how they manage to sound truly trippy and wonderfully weird without astronomical production values or even a surplus of technical skill. They really were a garage band, with all of the usual trappings of such a group: Their songs were rooted in basic, grease-coated rock n roll, complete with chunky guitar riffs (courtesy of Stacy Sutherland) and snarled vocals (thanks to wildman lead singer Roky Erickson, one of the great unheralded heroes of 60s rock). They just took things a little further than most bands: Their lyrics were pure gonzo poetry, heavy with mysticism and druggy imagery (and accented, of course, with a healthy dose of good old fashioned teenage bad attitude). The guitar chords are at the mercy of Sutherland's effects pedal, and there are plenty of acid-soaked solos flying around all over the place. Riffs and melodies are perched somewhere between blues-based garage punk and dream-addled death dirge. The most notable experimental flourish is Tommy Hall's "electric jug," a bizarre rhythmic instrument that garnishes several of these songs. It's hard to describe the sound of the instrumrent, but suffice to say it can be compared to the protestations of a series of uncooperative suction cups. Just listen to some of these songs! "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a deranged slice of teenage snarl with a meaner-than-mean guitar line and a meaner-than-meaner-than-mean vocal, with Hall's jug floating menacingly in the background. "Roller Coaster" is an "epic" (over FOUR MINUTES!) mindbender with an absolutely archetypal guitar drone and a ghostly vocal from Erickson. "Don't Fall Down," with its chugging bass line and woozy backing vocals, is out-and-out hypnotic, and "Fire Engine" moves into full-on rock out territory.

The result is a wigged-out classic that bridges the gap between rock and the world beyond. It's the sound of a bunch of zitfaced teenagers formerly obsessed with cheeseburgers 'n' fast cars stumbling upon the myrsteries of the universe. It's the sound of the 60s lurching into overdrive. It's the psychedelic sound, baby!

5 out of 5 stars Best Psychadelic Group Ever.......2006-11-10

The powerful yet simple guitar and the novel sounding jug provide the perfect backdrop fop Roky Ericson's erie and melancholy voice spouting lyrics that resonate to this day. Way before their time and a nice blast from the past for me. I remember seeing them while still in high school at various venues around Houston. Good then, good now.

2 out of 5 stars Annoying Dissapointment.......2006-10-20

I waited 20 years since hearing "You're Gonna Miss Me" to finally say "What A Dissapointment" Mind you it's still better than when Roky recorded it with The Spades, but it was ruined with Roky's wailing, and the god-awful harmonica. Roky didn't need to wail like he did his vocals were enough to get my attention his words were enough to get my attention, and now his wailing that tormented me as a teenager/young adult now have come to haunt my middle age in the form of a Dell commercial. The next song "Roller Coaster" is somewhat decent, and also "Don't Look Down", "You Don't Know" is probably the strongest song on here. The rest is either forgettable, or just terrible. I was disappointed with this as it was a interesting piece of music, but lack of strong songs, and unecessary wailing just made this a annoying album, and gives me a headache. You see with me psychedelic is where you make your guitar do all kinds of fuzzy/wah-wah, or make it sound like sitar. The harmonica has no place in psychedelia as far as I'm concerned. There's no need for it; I would figure any rational thinking person would not be tripping out on the sound of a harmonica, so don't do that.

2 out of 5 stars Rolling Stones from Texas.......2006-07-22

This is true mistake, this band is just boring Rolling Stones clone (think about Aftermath album) and nothing else. Nothing special psychedelic in the music too. Try to Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd to hear what pychedelia is. Or "Revolver" by Beatles.

5 out of 5 stars What are you waiting for!!!.......2005-09-05

Psych starts and ends with this album! YOU SHOULD ALREADY OWN IT!

5 out of 5 stars Did you know Amazon is anti-American? It's true - read more...........2006-08-16

There are thousands of classic rock cds that Amazon will not let you buy unless you go to one of their foreign sites and pay much more. For example, this Garage Rock Classics cd. I have a copy I would like to sell for less than those listed, but Amazon won't let me. Why? Because some mega-seller has gone to the English or other foreign site and listed this American-made cd and American-issued cd there. As soon as this happens it is removed from the Amazon catalog. To you, that means you pay more due to Amazon's anti-American policies. To me it means I bought I cd thinking I could sell it on Amazon and now I'm stuck. Unless you think the French and other should have more rights to our native cd's than we do, please consider letting Amazon know what you think of this costly policy.

5 out of 5 stars Superb disc of '60s garage rock.......2004-06-28

When Lenny Kaye put together the legendary double-LP "Nuggets" in the early '70s, he kicked off an anthologizing craze that's still going strong. Varese's producers navigate a rockin' line between the more well-known names of '60s garage rock and the sort of obscurities found on anthology series' like "Pebbles" and "Beyond the Grave." It's a winning mix, combining killer classics like Paul Revere & The Raiders "Just Like Me" and The Kingsmen's "Louie, Louie" with lesser-known gems like The Moving Sidewalks' "99th Floor" (featuring a young Billy Gibbons, later of ZZ Top) and The Litter's "Action Woman."

Followers of garage rock will know most these tracks, but given the regional fame of many singles, and the uneven quality of their anthological reissue over the years, there will be some nice surprises for even die-hard collectors. More importantly, those familiar only with the national hits will treasure this introduction to a broader sampling of mid-60s garage rock riches. This is a superb disc for charting a course to additional purchases (e.g., original album reissues and multi-disc box sets like "Nuggets" and "Nuggets II"), with 25 well-selected original tracks and liner notes from garage rock authority (and "Ugly Things" fanzine editor) Mike Stax.

Cuts 1-3, 9-12, 17-18, and 24 are true stereo, while the rest are AM-radio-ready mono. Tracks 26-28 were recorded live at the Cavestomp garage rock celebrations in 1999 and 2000, and show aging garage rockers - especially The Standells - to hang on to their mojo with impressive force.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good.......2006-11-17

Thanks to recommendation and input from various sources, the 13th Floor Elevators made their way onto my "CDs to Get List." However, their individuals albums proved rather pricey for my taste. Thus, after running into this compilation for cheap, I decided to try out these so-called psych rockers just to see what the fuss was about.

After listening to this CD, I came across two things. First, like Mr. Negative down there noted, the sound quality isn't the greatest. But it's not that bad, really. It's tolerable.

As for the band itself... well man, that electric jug trips you up. It's not an exhilirating trip, a la Stone Roses, though. It's more like a woozy trip down a bumpy road. It does take you somewhere, but don't expect to reach some weird Floydian heights; it's just a mild psychedelic trip.

Overall, the sheer volume of tracks gives you a very clear overview of what the 13th Floor Elevators did. The lack of chronological sequencing doesn't paint the most coherent picture, but then again, nobody expected this to be a lucid affair.

4 out of 5 stars Slip Inside This House and Leave Your Body Behind.......2004-10-26

Back before the invention of CDs, the only way to hear the 13th Floor Elevators was either try to find the out of print International Artists albums or find it on import. This Best of is the first true best of that is availble. And even though the recordings may have not been state of the art, You're Gonna Miss Me has never sounded better in this version. Like most compliations, there are missing songs (Reverbation, Fire In My Bones) that would've made this best of better. And the four tracks that came off the album Bull Of The Woods, actually are the less psychedelic tracks, sounding more close akin to Quicksilver Messenger Service. Strangely sequenced after Pictures and before the freakfest Roller Coaster, The Bull Of The Woods tracks probaly would been better off at the end of the disc. Almost forty years after the fact, The Elevators remain perhaps the originators of the psychedelic era, and they sound like they came from the 60's. Can you think of any other bands that used a electric jug in their music?

Perhaps their most shining moment is their first album The Psychedelic Sounds Of...., but for a decent overview, this is second to none.

5 out of 5 stars Elevators on the way Up.......2004-03-12

This seminal album suffers from poor original recording masters whose lack of quality should not be allowed to detract from the quality of the music itself. Created at a time when the only technology aside from amplifiers was fuzztone, Roky's insitefull poetry and cosmic imagery was transcendental at the time and remains so. Avoid the compilation and get their two best: Easter Everywhere and Psychedelic Sounds. For a great compilation recorded with todays tecnnology seek Where the Pyramid Meets the Eye, A tribute to Rocky Erickson with 13th Floor Elevator songs by ZZ Top, R.E.M.,The Jesus and Mary Chain, Butthole Surfers, and others.

1 out of 5 stars Absolutely the WORST.......2003-09-07

I was very disappointed with this CD on a number of levels. First - the sound quality: It sounded as if the recordings were taken from second generation copies instead of direct from the master tapes. There was much background white noise hiss as if it was an old worn out cassette and every song was distorted, muffled and muddy with no bass, mid-range or treble definition. Second - the lyrics: We all know of the idealism of the 60s and the many songs of this period that urged us to leave our bodies behind and expand our minds (in some cases with the use of mind-altering drugs). Most of these songs still hold up (example: The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, etc) even if we might now in the 21st Century get a chuckle or two from the idealistic and naive (and sometimes adolescent) lyrics. However, the lyrics of Roky Erickson, Tommy Hall and the 13th Floor Elevators are just downright ridiculous, juvenile and most often disturbing. I was not familiar with this group until listening to this compilation. How anyone could have taken this group seriously in the 60s (or later) is beyond me!Third - the music: It is awful! I purchased this CD because of the reviews, thinking I was going to get some great psychedelic sounds of the 60s. Wrong! I was expecting, at least, something along the lines of Vanilla Fudge or Iron Butterfly (which would have been great). I was really thinking, however, that when I placed this much anticipated disc into my CD player I would be getting a mixture of The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and the almost forgotten group, Love. Well, I was sure wrong. 13th Floor Elevators have been called psychedelic. Wrong again! The music is not haunting, it is disturbing and unsettling. One would be better off purchasing any of the aforementioned artists. While trying to figure out what in the world I was listening to and why the music was so disturbing and the lyrics so utterly tiresome, naive, insane and unsettling, I read the liner notes. Well, no wonder! Get this - Roky Erickson (among the musicians) literally let his brain post toastie on drugs and was locked up in the Rusk State Hospital for the Criminally Insane. He is out now but lives with his brother who is a legal guardian. (I wish I would have known this before purchasing the CD. It sheds some light on the absolute atrocity of this collection.) Another bandmate and fellow songwriter, Stacey Sutherland, led such a wonderful life that he was shot to death by his wife in 1976. None of the music contained on this CD is even close to what we fondly recall as the music of the 1960s. Please, if you want music of this era, DON'T buy this one. If you already know the 13th Floor Elevators and are disturbed or peculiar enough to actually like them or want to buy this, take note that the sound quality is horrendous. Even if the music was good, these supposed digitally remastered tracks do not sound remastered. Now that I know how bad these songs are, though, it makes me wonder why anyone even bothered trying to remaster this noise and insanity to begin with.

5 out of 5 stars absolutely the past........2002-06-28

if you want a good sample of the 13th floor elevators this is the one to get. there are songs from each of their original albums and you'll want to hear more. the guitars of the sixties have a special ring to them, reminiscent of groups like the yardbirds, and definitely bring back old memories. this cd has sparked my interest in hearing some of roky's solo material, which i recently ordered.

4 out of 5 stars Yum.......2005-12-07

This album made me think of summer, lying in the grass in a park in Copenhagen, drinking cheap beer that we'd picked up in germany on a bus trip filled with bad-smelling pensioners, trying to figure out where the music was coming from but not really caring that much.

3 out of 5 stars Three and a half, really.......2005-09-14

First off, I need to say I was not entirely impressed by Apples & Synthesizers; I think Solvent City somehow has much more depth. I felt that Apples & Synthesizers is one of those albums that tries too hard, or perhaps is too contentedly made, or both. There definitely are some good moments on the album, those that are an advancement in sound and structure, but there's a predominant lack of overall cohesiveness there, to my ears.

But on Elevators and Oscillators, some of the tracks from that album have been given some high quality attention by other similarly-minded artists. First off, I totally fell in love with The Mitgang Audio's album of 2003, and he does not fail to deliver a really nice rendition of My Radio here. Solvent's original is okay, but Mitgang Audio's version is great. I also really like the Alter Ego version of Think Like Us. The Solvent (and Tinfoil Teakettle) version is really good, but Alter Ego gives it a huge dose of testosterone, and it serves the song nicely. The other track I really like on this compilation is the JDSY remix of For You, a song that I find annoying in its original state, but is given wings by JDSY. The track sounds like Arovane on steroids, which is cool with me. (Note to self: Get some Alter Ego and JDSY music.)

I don't really mind that there's repetition in tracks here, because all the remixers are great artists and give the tracks their own unique signatures. And if you're liking Solvent's latest sound, there's some new stuff on here for you, too, although I have to say he's been missing the mark for me lately. Do I recommend the album? If you're a familiar fan of this genre and like the dudes from Ghostly and Suction, then yeah. If you're merely looking for some good retro/electro/modular dance music, I'd look elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Review from the Synthesis.......2005-06-16

For those of you that just can't get enough of the 1980's, and miss the sweet sound of synth pop, Elevators & Oscillators, by Solvent, is for you. Utilizing his passion for vintage analog synthesizers and Depeche Mode, Solvent has forged a sound that's retro, yet current. Elevators & Oscillators is comprised of vocoded, pop inspired vocals that float weightlessly atop a light, ethereal musical bed. Despite being a solo effort, over half of the songs on this album are remixes. The three versions of "For You" and "My Radio," add variety, but make the album a bit monotonous. Those interested in Solvent would be better served by checking out Apples & Synthesizers, a previous release containing 13 tracks including the original mixes of "For You" and "My Radio."

5 out of 5 stars simply amazing.......2005-05-10

This is sort of a companion piece to Solvent's last full-length, "Apples and Synthesizers", which features some of the warmest, most melodic music you will ever hear made electronically. This CD features a handful of brand new Solvent tracks, including the excellent "Wish" which I would describe as a modern-day synth-pop version of "Stand By Me". You really don't need to know anything about electronic music to enjoy this.

Almost all of the remixes are worthwhile, as well. The highlights are Alter Ego's sinister remix of "Think Like Us" which is the hardest, most banging track on here. Schneider TM's remake of "My Radio" is the polar opposite. He strips it down and adds acoustic guitar, along with new vocals and lyrics.

Definitely pick this up if you have "Apples and Synthesizers". Even if you don't own any Solvent already, this is a good start because of the wide range of styles.
