Album Description
You've arrived in the ultimate luxury resort for your soul. Come into the lounge where you can restore your body, mind and spirit. Settle in as you join our visionary house DJs, the Gordon Brothers (creators of the original Buddha-Lounge series) as they carefully hand-pick the freshest sounds around - exploring the more intimate side of mystical multi-cultural grooves with this perfectly transcendent blend of sensuously hypnotic rhythms, richly radiant vocals and an exotic array of ethnic instruments. Featuring an incredible line-up of world/lounge luminaries including Althea W., Ginkgo Garden, Joe Weinek Opera-to-Relax, Peter Mergener, Artemisia, TAU, David & Steve Gordon and many more genre-bending mixologists. De-stress and unwind, as deep ancient wisdom meets with these mesmerizing modern beats to create the definitive nu-global soundtrack for today; perfectly suited for deepening your yoga experience, as the perfect backdrop for socializing or any time you just want to chill-out.
"If you need a compilation to hold you over until the next installment in Sequoia's "Buddha-Lounge" series gets released, HOTEL TARA is the perfect place to take up residence. Like that series, the album features a luscious non-stop mix of ethnic-flavored grooves, spiritual essence and intoxicating beats compiled and mixed by the Gordon brothers. HOTEL TARA ups the "dreamy" quotient, creating an atmosphere that is at once peaceful and soulful. The beats are low-tempo and many of the songs have a touch of Indian instrumentation as well as a subtle retro-lounge flair. Artists include David and Steve Gordon, Gingko Garden, Althea W., Jaya Lakshmi, Artemisia and others. This is a great album for anyone looking for music that is mellow and cerebral - it is perfect for chilling out to."

Unwind with this..........2007-03-26
Smooth, sensous, soothing, and sultry. A couple of cuts a little on the "loungy" side but overall this is an excellent CD that delivers exactly what you would expect from the title. The quality of this stuff is definitely a cut above a lot of the other budda-lounge wannabes.
A maverick New Age/Eastern hybrid classic!.......2005-03-25
I am absolutely taken into the beauty and harmony that is the album "Hotel Tara". I first heard this at an independent CD store recently and after finding out who it was, I instantly bought the new album and I am proud of my choice of buying it. This album reminds me very strongly of the Earthtone collection series from years ago. After the apparent and unfortunate demise of the Earthtone label, Sequoia Records seems to have taken the torch and "Hotel Tara" is a powerful CD. "Apollo 13" is a highly eclectic track that incorporates voice effects of a NASA space mission with a gorgeous jazz/New Age groove. "Govinda Hari" is an electrifying song with haunting Eastern Indian voices and a very entrancing melody. This is such a wonderful CD and I highly recommend this.
Blissful Eastern Chill.......2005-03-10
Nothing less than superb ! This new titles from Sequoia Groove is a blissful voyage into the very best of Eastern influenced downtempo chill-out music. A provacative follow up to Sequoia's Buddha Lounge series. This album really transports the listener into some very exoctic and sensuous musical landscapes. I especially love the Jaya Lakshmi track "Govinda Hari" and "Apollo 13" by Joe Werineck which incorporates actual original recordings from the space mission into a lushly textured background of slow and sultry electonica. This is a great addition to any downtempo musical collection. If you like, Buddha Bar or Hotel De Costa you will love Hotel Tara.
The Ultimate Music for Sacred Lovers.......2005-02-10
David & Steve Gordon have done it again ! Just when you thought it could'nt get any better, these musical visionaries deepen the mix even further. Hotel Tara bills itself as "The Intimate Side of Buddha Lounge" and it certainly delivers on that promise. This is an exotic and enticing blend of traditional Eastern music with the very best that Western downtempo-electronica has to offer, featuring an superlative assortment of the very best Sequoia artists and some absolutely alluring new artists. Likely the most noteable being the lead track "L'Heure Verte/The Green Hour"from Artemisia, the new Steve Gordon solo project with it's distinctive tabla beat, exquisite tamboura, sensuous guitar and luminous vocals provided by Jaya Lakshmi whose "Govinda Hari" also graces the album. David Gordon's new solo track "Floating" is also fantastic, melding chill-out and smooth jazz effortlessly into this delightfully transcendent tune. My wife and I have now found our new favorite CD for our intimate encounters and Tantra sessions. These Sequoia Groove titles just keep getting better and better and this one is perfect suited for the the Sacred Lover. Keep them coming. Absolutely delightful.

Customer Reviews:
Wonderful earlier works.......2007-07-11
This is by far one of my favorite albums from the group. I would highly recommend this album as one to have someone listen to start any sort of interest with the group.
Realm of mediocrity.......2007-04-29
I must say that in investigating the world of Midnight Syndicate over the past year I found that this CD seems to be the most-talked about, highly-praised and least available of their releases. Now, that I have it in my possession (the 5th Midnight Syndicate CD I have bought in 10 months) I find it to be kind of bland compared to Gates Of Delirium and The 13th Hour (although it's a step up from Born Of The Night which walks the fence between creepy and corny). While the mood and sound effects on Realm Of Shadows are nice (the crows on the CD made me think I had one trying to build a nest on my balcony), there are really no tracks that stand out. They all just kind of run together. I'm not saying it's awful. Like most things in life, it just doesn't live up to the hype.
This was officially my first Midnight Syndicate CD....Life hasn't been the same since..........2007-02-02
You know, little did I know as I walked by this particular booth at a convention what I was listening to was going to affect me in the profound way that it did. A CD called Vampyre was playing and I stopped dead in my tracks and listened. It was simply beautiful. I asked the man at the booth if he had anything that might be appropriate for a graveyard? He recommended this CD. I also bought what was playing and didn't think twice about it. *This*, REalm of Shadows, was the first official CD that I listened to by this band known as Midnight Syndicate. I was completely transfixed by the music. I never sat down until several tracks later. I was officially crying my heart out by the second track saying "oh my God..this is so beautiful.." over and over.
That night, I didn't want to sleep. I wanted to keep listening to my new CDs as many times possible. I had never heard anything like this in my life. Before exhaustion took over I told myself I must not let the man selling these wonderful CDs get away without selling me the other two he had available! All I knew was, that I was slapped by so much inspiration that it literally hurt. Something long lost and dead inside me was reborn the night before. I saw so many images that needed to be created as a result of listening to this music. Midnight Syndicate became my instant muse. Soundtrack for the Imagination Indeed!
This review has little to say about particular tracks, but rather the over all emotion of experiencing this band's music for the first time in my own home. The peace I felt(despite the dark nature of the music). The mental images of my own yard haunt that hit me randomly in an almost *Field of Dreams* way so entangled that I had to built it to put the pieces together. Not to mention the images that came to me to simply put to canvas. I hadn't had ANY thing like this in my life that moved me to be more creative in my own life. I am thankful for this band and I will forever be dedicated to it. Thank you Ed and Gavin....
Realm of Goth.......2006-11-29
"Realm of Shadows" (2000) is Midnight Syndicate's second dose of "haunting orchestrations and sinister sound effects (creating) a dark, gothic soundscape." Having purchased all of their CDs (twice - for work and personal use) and using their music (with their permission, of course) as soundtracks for our local Halloween haunted attractions, I can honestly say that I will always be anticipating their next release.
As with "Born of the Night" (see my review), the production quality of this CD was outstanding. The music is stirring and the sound effects are realistic. The raven calls in track #9 "Ravens Hollow," the synthesized strings in track #12 "Spectral Mist," and the creaking timbers in track #20 "Harbored Souls" are particularly noteworthy. I actually prefer Syndicate's limited use of vocal effects, which normally come off as "cheesy" attempts to sound creepy. And once again, the bell tones in track #13 "Soliloquy" and track #21 "Eclipse" should have been digitally sampled instead of using tubular bells.
There are 21 selections totaling a little more than 52 minutes of music. Most of the tracks would have benefited from lengthening and building upon the base music and effects- they left me wanting more. The best tracks on this CD are #9 "Raven's Hollow," #10 "Beyond the Gates," #15 "Serpent's Lair," #19 "Witching Hour," and #20 "Harbored Souls."
As with their previous CD, this music begs to be played on a high-quality sound system, preferably one with some kick-butt subwoofers and enough power to handle this CD's wide dynamic range. Otherwise, listen with care on less-capable systems before you crank up the volume.
A beautifully crafted piece, both chilling and inspiring.......2005-04-20
Enter the realm where shadows lurk and nightmares reign. Beware of long passed souls unsettling before your eyes as you listen to the dark and eerie tale of Raven's Hallow.
A must have for those who want a chill with a little story in the mix.

House Blend Vol. 1 has been in my collection since about 1996.
Don't know why I bought it but I gave it scant attention until recently. Boy was I stupid. This CD rocks. Great party music. Even better on the car CD player driving in traffic. Incredible production (particularly on "All Men Are Dogs" "Matrix" and a cut that lifts a bunch of stuff from
"Speed Racer." Track 1 is a best of the best.....samples from the 50 something other segments cut into about a 4 mminute piece. There never was a true Volume 2 to this series. Too bad.

Not worth the time and money.......2000-05-27
After listening to the online samples provided here, I thought that this was going to be a decent house mix for the price-man was I wrong! The music selection is absolutely terrible, every track on the cd sounds the same, just a lot of noise put to a beat. If you're looking for a good progressive house/trance cd, I'd recommend George Acosta's "Awake". This cd on the other hand, I would not recommend to anyone.
Hardcore.......2000-05-27
This cd is a great cd to get.The jay moreno part is the dopest. The double impact is ok but could be better. Donot get the boxset of house blend but this one.The boxset stinks. If you like hardcore mixing i'd get this cd. i got it a day in 11 days but it was worth the wait.

Album Description
Stranger in My House is an intense brew of American roots music with a strong dose of blues, R&B, New Orleans funk, acid-rock, swing and latin.
Featuring the song-writing and the emotional guitar playing of Cyril Lance coupled with the incredibly soulful vocals of Grammy-Nominee Johnny Neel (Allman Brothers), Stranger in My House will keep you grooving from beginning to end.
In many ways his artistic tribute to one of his most important inspirations, Muddy Waters, Lance has produced and arranged what most consider his best work yet. Gathering the talents of his closest friends from years on the road, Lance captures the intensity and emotion of these live performances.
Starting with Johnny Neel whose experience is a who's who of southern rock and blues (Allman Brothers, Warren Haynes, Dicky Betts, Gov't Mule....), Boston-based Matt Jenson (Ronnie Earle, Johnny Adams...) burns up the Hammond B3 organ and piano, and Chris Carroll on bass and Kelly Pace on drums round out one of the finest blues rythm sections of the south (Bob Margolin, Skeeter Brandon, Pinetop Perkins, Rev. Billy C. Wurtz, Detroit Jr...).
Lance demonstrates his considerable versatility and gutt-bucket approach on slide and electric guitars, lapsteel and acoustic guitar.
If you're into the blues, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf; if you're into Otis Redding, Ray Charles; if you're into the Allman Brothers, Carlos Santana, Johnny Winter, Little Feat; if you're into Jimi Hendrix, Danny Gatton perhaps some Kenny Burrell -- you're sure to love this release.
Customer Reviews:
Live Performance.......2003-09-20
Caught their live act at the 'Empty Glass' in Charleston, WV this summer and thought they were fantastic. Truely a group that enjoys the music they play and the people that enjoy what they do. Never heard of them before that night, but feel that they are my discovery of the the year - make them yours. Cyril penned some great tunes, great musicians all and Chris Carroll has 'the' voice. Looking foward to their next CD or live performance in my travels.
Awesome!.......2001-12-19
This is one of the best blues CDs I've heard in a long time. I can't stop playing it over and over again... Great songwriting and great performances, esp. by Lance and singer Johnny Neel.

Following the example of many contemporary Broadway singers, Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast, Triumph of Love) offers a mix of pop songs and show tunes on this solo recording. On the musical-theater side, Egan bravely unearths obscure nuggets (Jerry Herman's "Where in the World Is My Prince," Alan Menken and David Zippel's "I Can't Believe My Heart," from the movie Hercules) and gives them a soothing, laidback reading. Even her natural charm, however, can't alleviate the sugary whimsy of Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich's "Taylor, the Latte Boy" (incomprehensibly, a favorite on the New York cabaret circuit). On the pop side, the clear-voiced Egan offers nice adult-contemporary versions of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and Cat Stevens's "Oh Very Young." But her warm, no-nonsense style isn't a good fit for Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights," an outsize, demented song that requires a playful sense of drama that Egan lacks. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Album Description
COFFEE HOUSE mixes traditional rock, pop and cabaret styles into an acoustic blend of traditional coffeehouse music.
Susan Egan is a Tony-nominated Broadway star (Beauty and the Beast, Cabaret, Thoroughly Modern Millie) who has made a name for herself in TV (Drew Carey, NYPD Blue), film (13 Going on 30, Hercules, Spirited Away) and recording (over 30 cast albums and soundtracks). Egan is joined by Broadway star Terrence Mann for their first duet since they originated the roles of Beauty and the Beast.

Coffee House cd.......2007-01-12
Of The 2 albums I have just purchased by Susan Egan, this is the best. One can sit down and relax with this beautiful music. I hope she does more of this type of album.
There's something about Susan Egan's voice that just keeps you listeneing!.......2006-11-23
Something about her voice, it's like the perfect combonation of broadway/cabaret style, with a modern, sassy sound! I think part if it is her cool american accent!
Love Susan Egan, love coffee house!
Wonderful!.......2006-05-12
After reading a few reviews on this site, I have come to the conclusion that this is one of the albums where it's you love it or you hate it with no intermediate. It's a fairly simple concept. If you like different renditions of show tunes and pop songs, then go for this, it's beautifully done, Susan's voice is warm and dynamic, and she puts herself into these songs. If you don't like people doing covers, well then, I'd still say listen to some samples because she's that good.
There are many strong pieces in this album, her renditions of "Oh Very Young", "Wurthering Heights" (this song was much more full bodied and appealing than Kate Bush), "Roses", and "Oh How I Loved You" are particularly heart rending.
Addictive.......2005-10-01
This CD is addictive: I cannot take it out of my CD player. I purchased the album because I love Susan's voice, and I knew none of the songs beyond "Both Sides Now." The performances are wonderful, and I think Christopher McGovern's arrangements compliment her quite well and add a lot of beauty on their own. As for the songs I didn't know, I cannot get 'Oh, How I Loved You" out of my head.
True talent, unique singer.......2005-08-01
Susan Egan is an amazing performer, very true to her singing. Wether it's Broadway or her own cd's, she always sings with her heart and soul, perfectly capturing all the emotions in her own distinctive style.
All the songs on "Coffee House" were chosen by Susan herself - the ones she loved, could relate to and honestly wanted to sing. And it really shows, as we can hear a great joy and emotional engagement in Susan's singing - nothing is forced or over the top. She hits every note perfectly and knows how to make the most of her impressively wide vocal range. Song choices really reflect Susan's endearing personality - romantic, passionate, yet hilarious with a great sense of humor. There's no chance to get bored with her music and this album is a perfect choice for any occasion.
Susan is a well-loved and known musical stage performer these days, and her numerous Broadway/Tv/Movie credits just prove her wonderful talent and versatility. If you're tired of plastic pop and pop-idols being produced in masses, just try "Coffee House" and enjoy the natural charm of Susan's beautiful voice singing to the top-notch arrangements. Definitely a must-have!

This cd is sooooo cool. I really like it. The songs are cool. The whole cd is really cool!!!
DA BOMB!.......1998-08-01
With House Blend 4, DJ BAM BAM is once again tearing the place apart. This CD, the latest in a classic series of house music, lives up to the tradition of the first 3. Hopoefully it is not the last,by judging from the title, it will be the last one for BAM BAM. Hopefully DanceWorks can bring us another DJ from Chicago to continue on with the tradition
