About the Artist
AudioFile Collective is a three person collaboration of international travelers who record public sound to DAT via binaural microphones. They have performed on both coasts of the United States and recorded at more locations than could be listed.
Product Description
On this recording traffic, prayer calls, bells, horns, dialogue, trains, marketplaces, airplanes and airports, nageswaram and tavhil, tabla and tambour, delighted cinema audiences and scratchy radios create a dense cinematic soundscape. It is everyday ambient sound manipulated, mixed and remixed. Not just a compendium of noises, it is a structured yet chaotic aural exploration of India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
It explores the myriad of strange juxtapositions of sound commonly found in this region and challenges the idea of a traditional audio listening experience. At times, "conflicting" audio information was recorded on site, and, at other times, the "conflict" of disparate noises is a result of experimentation in the studio. As a whole, this disc reflects the incredible density of competing noises while retaining the clarity and impact of the individual sounds that make up the din of South Asia.
Each track references specific themes, which are explained in the extensive liner notes. This recording is a great for the DJ, ethnomusicologist, electronic musician, noise aficionado, or your mom.
