It's not terrible, but not good either.......2006-03-12

I purchased Ultra Dance 04 which was truly the best Ultra Dance album that so far came out. But when 05 came out, I was disapointed. It's not that horrible, with my favorite songs being Love Me Right (Oh Shelia), Stand Back, Straight Ahead, Somebody to Love, Love Comes Again, Waiting for You, Nobody Likes The Records That I Play, and Rocking Music. The song selection is great, but the mixing wasn't. Now for the bad songs... Trick Me (annoying vocal track), Seven Nation Army (they had to ruin my fave White Stripes song), I Like It (very annoying and repetitive), and Catch Me I'm Falling. If you like the tracks, buy this for the songs. My suggestion: buy it used.

a pretty strong volume in the series...........2005-09-28

Ultra Dance gives things a little twist here. Disc 1 is called "radio hits", and disc 2 is "club anthems." There's some major cheese on disc 1, but that's not to say it isn't fun-the cover of Stevie Nicks' Stand back for instance, with its filter disco feel and annoying vocals. Overall, disc 1 is cover tunes and funky house. It ends strong with some darker stuff and some trance. Disc 2 starts with some hardhouse seal, and then is followed by a funky house tune that is a TOTAL Justin Timberlake ripoff! It sounds like him, and even works in the lyrics "rock your body"! But from there, it truly is a load of progressive, darker tracks that even allows some vocals. Hardcore club goers will probably find some gems here, and thankfully, most of them run longer than 5 minutes. There's even an interesting remix of Catch Me I'm Falling from the 80s group Pretty Poison, with artist listed as Chris and Kai. Track times:

dance of spring '04.......2005-06-05

I bought this when it first came out on a whim. Dance music is my guilty pleasure genre.
I must say the two tracks that stood out with me was "Love me Right" and "Stand Back" because they were covers of some of my favorite 80s songs. I really loved "Love me Right" and as opposed to what others have said I was amazed by "Stand Back". At first I didn't think it could be the cover but was pleasantly surprised that it was and it is one of my favorite songs. "Satellite" is another song that I was really fascinated with as well. Granted this one is a bit spotty but for me the songs above are enough for me. It was the cd of the spring of 2004 for me.

Pretty Good.......2005-03-27

I thought that this cd set has some cool songs on it, but I mainly liked disc 1 most. Disc 2 just has a lot of songs I turned out not to like by chance. I do like 2 songs on disc 2, but if the songs on disc 1 were the only songs that came with the cd, Id be very satisfied. Being able to preview cds is awesome, but sometimes the 30 seconds you preview of the song is the worst part of the song and doesnt help you at all. When in doubt, buy used.

I paid for this?!.......2005-01-09

The first thing I noticed about this album is the fact that it's jam packed with really bad covers. I mean they are just plain boring.
You have "Love Me Right (Oh Sheila)" which is a really weak sounding semi-different version of Ready for the World's "Oh Sheila.
There's "Take me to the Clouds Above" which is really just a weak vocaled U2 cover.
There's the almost abominal version of Stevie Nick's "Stand back" with yet another weak vocaled female.
Then there's the ultra boring cover of "California Dreamin'" which just needs to be put to rest.
What should have been the gem of the album was "Fallen (Gabriel and Dresden Anti-Gravity Mix)" from Sarah Mclachlan. It features her beatiful voice over some beat and synth that make it almost unlistenable.
As for the rest, I couldn't get this thing out of my CD player fast enough. You'd might as well throw the money for this CD in the trash because it's garbage.

Catchy and Fun.......2006-03-01

Contrary to the previous reviewer, I enjoyed this CD very much. It has a nice, continuous beat throughout and is loaded with energy and the songs are fun...great for prepping yourself for a night at the clubs, or to see you through a high-intensity workout. The weakest track is certainly the last one.

Way too happy for my tastes, this collection sounds like stuff you'd have heard on Fire Island during a weekday afternoon tea dance in Cherry Grove in the mid-90s. It's a mix of cheesy soft house and bad cover versions, including journey's "Don't Stop Believin," Anything Box's "Living in Oblivion," Roxy Music's "More Than This," and Stephanie Mills's "Never Knew Love Like this before." The strongest tracks on here are Nikki French's cover of Celine Dion, and Lovefreekz sample of ELO. I prefer Julian's mixes with more trance. Track times are:

I bought this CD in an airport because I desperately needed some fresh music. What I didn't expect was to keep coming back to it again and again, several months later. Why? Well, I expected this to be a poorly mixed CD with a bunch of commercial tunes and no consistency among the songs. What I got was a _lot_ of great tunes and a solid, self-consistent vibe that just doesn't let up.

This CD is not mostly 'dance' music; it's actually mostly house with the odd trance song, and a couple "true" dance songs. It seems most of the mixes heard Benassi's "Satisfaction" and wanted to get a similar groove. One might expect overkill, but it actually works, even more than some of Benassi's mixes that I've heard. Not to say that the songs all sound the same; quite the contrary. Each song has its own edge, and some are quite remarkable, such as "Truly" by Delerium and "Nobody Likes The Records That I Play" by DJ Tocadisco. The club hits here fit well in the mix, such as Seven Nation Army, California Dreamin', and Somebody to Love.

There's Tiesto and U2 and Kelis and other star names in this album. They hold their own but it's the other songs that make this album a compelling listen.
