Pascal, one the more discreet members of the Tru Playaz clique, has quietly been taking the drum & bass world by storm for years. Since his first hardcore release,Fubar, in 1990, he has been one to watch, releasing a slew of varied but well-received singles, such as "Johnny's P-Funk Era Reality." This latest nine-track outing is considered more an elaborate EP than an album, but it still manages to make the kind of impact that many producers can only aspire to on their LPs. Kicking off in style with the title track (a reworking of his 1995 classic), Pascal then provides a couple of older cuts ("Cool Maneuvers" and "Serious Sounds") before bringing brand-new flavor to the mix with "The Calm," which isn't relaxing at all. True to form, there's never a dull moment on this dynamic and incredibly diverse set from one of the genre's true players. --Paul Sullivan
